I need something more from the characters than just steamy bedroom scenes. Plot and characterization are just as important to me as chemistry. So when I began this story, knowing that I was in for some amazing bedroom scenes and some off-the-hook chemistry, I was okay with that. I was actually in the mood for a good, dark romance read like that.
Imagine my giddy surprise when this one-in-a-million romance novel turned out to be so much more.
Braxton. This poor soul is the epitome of pain and suffering. When we first meet Brax, he sets the bar high for other dark lovers in the genre right away. He's ruthless, and an admitted sociopath. He proves this time and again with his vile thoughts and actions, but I have to admit, I loved every second that I got a glimpse inside his head. His character went dark, but there's a river of layers running beneath his viciousness. The flashbacks of his youth spent with his mother pulled at my heartstrings, and I couldn’t help but feel so much for him, desiring for him to finally find a way out of that dark world.
And when he does get a glimpse of the light, it’s not in the form of an angel. No, Jessica (Bunny) isn’t the cliché good girl come to save him. She tough, and she fights dirty and does what she has to in order to survive the cruel world that’s stolen everything from her. Jessica was a breath of fresh air in the romance genre. I think I adored her even more than Brax…at least I loved them both equally. They’re both dirty and sexy, and don’t take Sh*t from anyone.
The world in which these two characters exist feels like it was created just for them—their own rules, their own exceptions to the rules. And when they meet on that plane, in a suspended reality of their own making…it’s explosive.
Bravo to the author for taking a dark them and bringing it to life in an original and spellbinding way, giving us something beautiful in the process. I’ve also become a fan due to the author’s elegant writing. Clean and clear, she draws you in. And I honestly didn’t know which way she was going to take that ending—but I’m completely thrilled with it, and all the extras we were given in the end. With Jessica and Brax, and the other characters that I hope we get more of! ...more

I swear, every single one of her books puts my heart through the ringer--in a brilliant way! Undeniably Asher was no exception. Crafted with the same care that went into the characters from the first installment, Asher and Alyse were hot, possessive, steamy and beautifully in love. They may be my favorite couple so far. Although...I can't wait for Luke's story! I think that will tear my heart right up, but I completely trust my heart to Kreig. In her capable hands, she's sure to bring the heat! Don't miss out on this amazing series! I can't wait to get my hands on the next book....more

Anna and Noah loved with a depth that swept me away, and I wanted to be a part of their story as they struggled and strove to learn to trust each other. What I truly loved about this story was the inclusion of Anna's son. How Noah fell in love with him right along with Anna. It was so beautiful and had me rooting for this couple from the start. Congratulations, Rachel, on this fine accomplishment. Filled with a mix of raw and tender emotion, HEALING is not to be missed....more

I'mI did not expect the amazing adventure this story took me on! I've been in need of a great Dystopia read, it's been ages, and I missed the genre. I'm so happy I picked Submerged. There's a nice slow build at first, and then boom! So much action, mystery, and heartache. Sobon did a wonderful job weaving information the reader needed with action and suspense, and leaving just enough out to keep the reader guessing and turning the pages. I *thought* I knew what was going to happen in the end, but I did NOT see that coming. Great job! With a budding romance, I can't wait for the second book :) I think even more will blow my mind in book two. With a great villain, a strong, savvy heroine, and two swoony guys (I'm pulling for team Glate ;) Submerged is a must for Dystopia lovers! ...more

I think I needed to give myself some time off after so many were released in the YA genre, and the break allowed me the time needed to miss them and embrace a new take on angel/heaven/hell mythology.
Author Nicki Elson has done a phenomenal job creating a realistic premise, world, and characters. I mean, while reading, I honestly felt as if this story could happen—as if it may have already happened. It’s just that realistic and that well written.
Maggie is a fantastic, true-to-life heroine. I love my YA. I devour YA. But I’m an adult. Sometimes that realization can be depressing lol, and I love to lose myself in stories about younger characters facing and struggling with their “firsts”. Then there are times that I just need a book that speaks to me on my level, dealing with issues and battles that I face daily. Maggie was the perfect character for this need. She’s down to earth, strong, and yet fragile. Having just gone through a divorce, she’s determined to focus on her two children and her job, while also longing for a relationship with a man—something uncomplicated—but there’s not much time for it in her busy, hectic life. I think what I loved the most about Maggie was her strength. She’s strong because she has to be, for her kids, but she’s not jaded. I really appreciated this. She struggles with the balance of it, because after going through so much hurt, she’s found herself pushing men away, just like she did her husband, in order to handle situations herself. She needs that control, especially over herself. She fears allowing those she cares for in, past her walls, and giving them the power to hurt her.
It’s her defenses that angel Evan must help break down in order to show her what love truly is. Enter Evan: hot, amazingly genuine Evan. Maggie’s temptation begins when Evan appears to her, and she fights the need and want to embrace this divine being as a real man—lose herself in him, and give into the emotions she’s held back from others in her life. Their story is simply beautiful. And I’m trying so very hard not to give any spoilers, so I will only say that I loved, loved how their story ended. It was perfect and there were tears. I will say that if you’re thinking this is just another human girl/woman meets hot angel story, kiss kiss; smooch smooch—you’re wrong. I’ve never read another angel book like this one ever. There are no clichés, and the storyline is completely original. I was blown away and surprised in a very good way that Nicki took this story where she did. Again, just beautiful.
If you’re worried about reading a book heavily centered on religion for fear of being preached to. Don’t. It is centered around religion, but only because of Maggie’s struggle with her faith. There are no hidden messages or preaching. The author did a wonderful job balancing religion and angel mythology without hammering the reader over the head with it. I never once felt that I was being schooled.
I can’t say enough great things about Divine Temptation. It was exactly what I needed, a breath of fresh air, and a highly captivating and gorgeous read. ...more
