Unfortunately this wasn't as good as book 1. With the story becoming hard to follow/complicated with the Cleopatra/Antony stone and the relationship between Kat and Hale still not developed. Book 1 also had much more humour. I still enjoyed Uncommon Criminals, just not as much as Heist Society. Hopefully the last novel in the series will be much better.(less)

Wow. Just wow. About time we got a ya novel that was new, exciting and reverting. I couldn't put this down. Once I heard that this novel was like a combination of Veronica Mars (one of my favourite TV shows) and the x-files (a very cool show) I knew that this would be a book for me.
So many things happened in this novel that I did NOT see coming! Finally a book that isn't predictable!!!
Though I admit say that some things that were written into the story I didn’t agree with (view spoiler)[ Alex dies!!! He was my favourite character!!! And she killed him off, by him getting shot in the neck and bleeding to death - what a way to go!!!! Grrrr.... I also find it hard to believe that a girl whose father and best friend die due to the choices of a bunch of guys she still chooses to love whole heartedly one of the boys involved! :S A find that a little weird. But that could just be me (hide spoiler)]
One scene which I must include which was truely awesome was this: "We're going to watch Tron: Legacy" Since this is the Lamest Excuse Ever, there's no way I can stand behind it. "Um no we're not. That movie is only about a tenth as good as its soundtrack" Alex just smirks-I will totally get him back for this. Best line :)
But I still very much enjoyed this novel, though unfortunately I must admit I was expecting it to be much better. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. But it was still very awesome. A fantastic read.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

Looking at the cover of this novel, you would not think that the theme of this novel centred around vampires that’s for sure. Moth is a recently turned vampire who is trying to live a somewhat normal life. Though that becomes hard when she must cut contract with her family and drop out of high school due to her recent transition and the problems that arise from it – being around lots of people who are pumping yummy blood.
Jace is the son of a notorious vampire hunter and basically already, you can see where this story is going. (Vampire + Vampire hunter = classic troubled love story). Jace's father is trying to kill a high ranking vampire in the underground society of vampires - who coincidentally is Moth's maker. Dum dum dum! No shocker there.
Meanwhile despite all this, zombie like creatures are suddenly popping up and the unlikely duo from opposite sides; Moth and Jace team up to discover who is behind it.
Not a bad story, despite the cliché and unsurprising events that unfolded throughout the novel. Nothing was really a surprise and the story was quite simplistic, in that it has been done a million times before – honestly it’s not a very original story. But despite all this I still quite enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind reading book 2 and reading more about Moth and her maker.(less)

Heist Society was everything I was looking for and more. It had a great concept as the novel is about thieves. A great set of characters; Kat; the main character being a witty, humours, smart and brave girl who's characteristics and looks readers can relate to, Hale; Kat's hot best friend/side kick, whose own humour matches her own. Gabrielle; Kat's hot cousin where the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover definitely suits and some other supporting characters such as the Bagshaw brothers who are a packet of laughs. Not only is this but the story itself a fantastically clever one.
Kat must break into the Henley (Paris), one of the most guarded and protected galleries in the world and steal not 1, but 5 paintings. All of which must happen in 1 day in order to save her father. The man who taught her everything she knows. Those of you who like the TV series Alias will love this novel.
I looked have unique this novel was, so sick of reading young adult novels about the same things and have the same style of characters. Lastly I must add: Kat Bishop, you are too cool.

(keeping this one short) I think Mead picking Sydney as the main protagonist was a really good idea, shes so different from what we are used to and she has a completely different aspect of the vampire academy world we have grown to love. She has a different opinon of the vampire and trhe dhampirs and magic and its interest to hear her point of view in the matter. Something i think we all loved about this novel was adrian, i think everyone loves his character and going from this novel i think Sydney is growing to like him too.
Fav bits: when Rose popped up for about 3 pages :P also the ending from what we can gather Dimitri will have a surprise role in the next novel. Also you learn something about Adrian and Jill which will surprise the hell out of you - i know it did for me.
This book was pretty good, good storyline and i liked reading about through sydney's eyes - it was enlighting. However i didnt love this novel like i have done with most of the vampire academy novels - it was lacking in something... i dont know what... but this novel feel a bit short, and while i liked it - i didnt love it. Maybe its because its the first novel in the series, maybe ill like the second more. Only time will tell.(less)
