If you want a book where all the main characters spend the entire novel bitching and whining about their pathetic love lifes, while their world is heading up shit creak and everyone else around them is dieing - then read this very unimaginative concluding novel to this seriously drawn out series that honestly should have ended with book three. After reading this novel, the first thing that popped into my head was "thats time in my life thats now wasted and won't get back." Definitely will not be reading her new trilogy, in this overused series...(less)

"Well, here’s the thing. Last I heard, there are no concrete plans to make a BP graphic novel. It’s like your nightmare actually coming true–where the series really DOES end with Shadow Kiss! The first VA graphic novel sold decently, but the Frostbite graphic novel was so-so, which astounds me since I actually think that’s a more action-packed book. If Shadow Kiss doesn’t perform better, my publisher doesn’t expect to be making a fourth graphic novel. I don’t know about you, but I’m chomping at the bit to see Emma draw Sydney, Yeva, Abe(!), and all the others we meet in BP–not to mention Rose traipsing through the Russian countryside and battling you-know-who.”(less)

It’s sad that the first thing that pops into my mind when I first saw this cover was the Fallen series. Especially because I really didn't care for that series and so in seeing this cover, you instantly feel like this book is going to be like Fallen, and having this initial thought almost turned me off from reading the book to begin with. But I decided to not do the cliché thing here, and not judge a book by this cover. I’m so glad I decided this; otherwise I wouldn't have had the opportunity to give this book a read.
Whilst this book is about vampires, primly, and there are soo many vampire themed books out there today, that it almost put you off from reading any further in the future. But London's vampire themed novel 'Darkness before Dawn' is different, but not so different as it still borders on the cliché themes of all vampire themed books. Meaning; girl meets boy, boy intrigues girl, girl finds out boy is a vampire, girl tries to hate boy, but can't fight her developing feelings for him, and girl and boy fall for each other. Just with like every other vamp book. But this novel had some pretty interesting things within it that were different from others out there. For one there is the night watchmen (remind anyone of game of thrones?) who patrol the street for vampires and try to protect the citizens in town and second the world is aware that vamps exist, going to far as to have pe as defence class. Not only this but the main protagonist of the novel, Dawn, is the new delegate - her job is to liaison between the vamps and her townspeople.
Did anyone else get annoyed when you realised the title has the main characters name in it and a pun, I was like ah, that’s kinda lame haha. Maybe that was just me... Anywho, I didn't mind this, some characters will get on your nerves alot though; I know Michael and Tegan did (Dawn's boyfriend and best friend). There were some twists in there, but they were very obvious and you could see happening a mile away. I hate when that happens. But ahwell, still a not bad read.(less)
