"I feel like a moth drawn to the flame."
Contact would hurt, might be fatal, and yet she couldn't stop herself. Obsession or compulsion, she didn't know, but she did know that before this was over, she'd either end up in Dimitri's bed...or one of them would bleed darkest red.
Upon originally learning that this story would focus on Ferociously Delicious Archangel Raphael's second in command Dimitri I was a bit apprehensive to get excited to read Archangel's Blade. However, I have fallen a bit in love with the Sensually lethal, and Beautifully corrupt Dimitri. Shame on me for having little faith in Nalini Singh and her brillant paranormal romance writing skills. I was captivated by Dimitri and his tortured story from the minute I opened the first page.
"Please Dimitri, Valeria cried. "Don't turn into a monster because of a mortal."
It made him smile in genuine amusement.
"Dear Valeria, I was a monster before you were born."
For those of us including myself that can't successully erase the former image of a taunting Sexual Deviant Dimitri blowing a kiss to Elena after she cuts his throat with a knife, well we get the same Dimitri while exploring a gentler side that feels as sensual as a lovers caress.
What I appreciated most about Dimitri was that he remained his usual Arrogant, Calculating, Sex Pot, Ruthless, and Deviantly Handsome man he was TorturedMADE to be, except when he's in the privacy of Honor's affection he can deny her nothing as she brings a softer side of him non existent to any other women in his life for centuries.
His tortured story left me speechless as I read of the brutality that he suffered at the hands of a deranged Angel. He was an honorable man left stripped of all his reasons to live and we discover how powerful and rich the bond he has cultivated with Archangel Raphael.
Honor is a very likable and tortured Guild Hunter that after two months of brutality at the hands of homicidal vampires has been left a battered and bruised shell of her former self. I couldn't help but cheer beside her at the possibility of her overcoming her fears and finding happiness in the one species that she is now understandably terrified and repulsed by....a vampire. Not just an ordinary vampire but anArchangel's Bladenamed Dimitri....
Holding her gaze, he closed the final distance between them and went down to his knees, that beautiful face to her abdomen, tears started flowing again, slow and quiet, over her cheeks.
Dimitri didn't bow his head to anyone; he didn't surrender or submit. But he was on his knees before her, vulnerable to a kick, a stab to the neck, the most violent rejection.
This is an emotionally griping story of Losing Love, Overcoming Fears, Avenging someone, Surviving, and Capturing Love when you least expect it.
Although I've always been a devoted fan of Nalini Singh and her exciting Guild Hunter series, she has renewed my obsession with her wonderfully gifted writing skills once again. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this series it's a must read for paranormal romance fans and I suggest you do it now!!!
"I can't be anyone's slave, Dimitri. Not ever."
"That won't be a problem....you'll only ever serve me."
"You think you are so clever, with your masters wrapped around your pretty little finger." His eyes blazed blue fury into mine. Do you never stop
"You think you are so clever, with your masters wrapped around your pretty little finger." His eyes blazed blue fury into mine. Do you never stop to wonder why they are so fascinated with you? Why they are obsessed with possessing you and stealing you away from the other?" "All those Kegel exercises?!"
Another fantastic edition to The Succubus Diaries. It was action packed and loads of fun. It seems I sit to read this book and before I know it I'm finished, it Sucked me in, literally. Jackie and Remy set out on a roadtrip to New Orleans in hopes of removing a lethal curse that has been placed on Jackie.
Jackie learned along the way to fend for herself because she might not always have the luxury of having a gorgeous angel or sinister sexy vampire to scratch her Itch when she needs it. Either way this book had plenty of scorchingly hot sex from her lustworthy masters, and it left me wanting more. Noah and Zane are a sight to behold but they've only got eyes for Jackie, however she has eyes for them both. Surely she has to make a decision eventually, but until she does I'm along for the ride and loving every minute of it. In the end my heart still belonged to a naughty vampire named Zane. ;)
Despite his wild side, there was something about him that called to me. Maybe it was his roguish attitude, or his lust for pleasure, or the tender way held me when we made love, as if he was afraid I'd disappear and he'd never see me again.....Remy disapproved of him, but I kept coming back like a junkie needing a fix."
I was excited read that my favorite Porn star/Succubus had remained a loyal friend to Jackie, and she's as slutty as ever which is obvious to everyone except herself. She's great entertainment!
Remy nodded slowly. "It was hard to tell at first-Victoria wasn't exactly the most chaste of succubi, not like you or me." Boy, if porn star Remy was an example of chastity, Victoria must have been a hard-core tramp.
I loved the first book and this one is even better. It's loaded with plenty of action, mystery, seduction, and steamy sex, all while on the disastrous road to New Orleans.
Hell has no furry like a Vampire named Zane when you threaten to take away his most prized possession, and I don't mean his breathtaking black wings.
"Again?" Zane growled, the sound nearly inhuman in it's pain. "Again you will take her from me?"
"She's not yours," Noah said in a warning voice
"Again?" Zane growled, the sound nearly inhuman in it's pain. "Again you will take her from me?"
"She's not yours," Noah said in a warning voice.
"You can't have her!" roared Zane in a blood-vessel bursting voice. "Not again!" "I turned you," he said, his voice panting and frantic. "You're mine. My creation. I made you. I turned you so we could be together. I won't loose you again." Zane roared.
The rubber band that held together this amicable love triangle has finally broke, leaving an emotionally charged battle that I found to be the second most painful I've ever read but it was so heated and powerful that couldn't look away.
My favorite in the series, although each book has been excellent so far. I'm obsessed with this world Mrs. Myles has created. I'm shocked that more people have not read this series!
Once again Jackie and her best friend Remy are on another adventure to apprehend the missing Halo for the Archangels. All I can say about this book is that Jackie is one lucky Succubus. She still has her two gorgeous bf's and she gets so much lovin' in this book, that a few times I had to actually close the book and check to see if I was reading a Blackdagger Brotherhood novel, that's how steamy this book was;) Lasting impressions in my mind are a jail cell and a hotel roof (my lips are sealed, it was just that hot). This book makes me wish desperately that I could switch places with Jackie because she makes life as as Succubus sound so tempting;).
" You belong to me" Noah growled. "You are mine."
The last chapter was perfect but I must say that I was on the edge of my seat with anxiety over what was going to take place with Archangel Gabriel, I was actually shed a few tears of empathy with Jackie.
"You must do unpleasant things quickly, Succubus. Bandages must be ripped off with haste in order to spare future pain."
I can't hardly wait for the next book in the series. Although I love me some angelic Noah, my heart still belongs to a Bad Boy named Zane. ;)

She's an absolute genius for her role in creating the amazing characters Chess and Terrible. If you haven't jumped on Downside bandwagon yet, I highly recommend it!
One of my favorite quotes from the book:

I'll fucking carry you down your place on a run, you tell me aye, get you on your back afore the next word cones out of your mouth. For those of you that know me, I'm sure you're all fully aware that I'm a complete Fangirl when it comes to Downside Ghosts series; and not only am I a Terrible Girl, I'm also a Chess fan as well because she's fantastic. So this may come as no surprise since I say this after I read each new installment of The Downside Ghost series, so I'll say it again; Sacrificial Magic was my favorite of the series to date!
"Chessie.....shit, Chessie, I love you so bad." His teeth on her throat, biting hard, his lips smoothing the spot. "So fucking much, so.....so bad."
Sacrificial Magic begins shortly after the heartwarming events that occurred in City of Ghosts. Chess is finally happy in love with her first genuine selfless relationship with her devoted boyfriend Terrible. You would think her life would be peaches and cream at this moment and she would be living in such a blissful state with Terrible she would have no time for anxiety. Well this is Downside and Chess Putnam is a powerful Church Witch so think again!
"Always want you, Chessiebomb. Always."
From the begining we quickly disciver that both Slobag and Bump's men are turning up dead and it obvious that witchcraft is being used on these men as some sort of ritual sacrifice. Bump has ordered his most favorite and loyal ChurchWitch Chess Putnam to look into these murders and discover why these men are being tortured and killed in Bumps territory. Also if it wasn't enough motivation that Bump is her main drug supplier he's also Terrible's boss and she knows no boundaries when it comes to protecting Terrible.
To know the truth, we must find it within ourselves. More than that, we must admit it to ourselves. ------The Church and You, a pamphlet by Elder Barrett
Therefore she has no other choice but to investigate for Bump while simultaneously investigating for the church, while hiding her extracurricular lifestyle from the church.
Two choices, both of them shitty. Story of her life.
The Church of Truth has also assigned Chess Putnam the task of investigating grissly ritual murders, and of course Chess gets assigned after a fellow Church Debunker goes missing while conducting the investigating. She must now begin her investigation in Slobag's territory; a rival drug lord to Bump, so understandably Terrible is not permitted. Unfortunately this forces her to work much more closely with Lex much to Terible's disdain. This aides and abets Chess' irrational paranoia and self abhorrent inner turmoil.
get annoyed, and she'd look clingy and pitiful. It would be like admitting she needed---no, not admitting, there was nothing to admit. It would be like saying that she needed to have him around, and if she did that he'd be turned off.
She's unsure how to behave since this will be the first time she has been in such close proximity with Lex her Ex Lover? Ex boyfriend? Friend with Benefits? Casual Hookup? Well you get the picture! Prior to Terrible with Chess all these categories collided together into a tiny package of dispair as this is her first genuine, selfless, loving relationship with her fully committed boyfriend Terrible. She's uneasy about fully accepting his no strings attached love.
"What? "He looked so angry for a second she thought he was going to slam on the brakes, and braced herself. Well, braced herself as best she could; she didn't think she could have picked up anything heavier than a cigarette at that particular moment.
"They made you--Fuck. Shoulda fuckin known." "No it wasn't that bad. I had my gloves."
He shook his head, his anger still filling the car. "Sure it weren't. Swhy you tanked up soon's you left, aye?" She blinked. That stung. A lot. And what was she supposed to say in reply? Especially when it was true."
"Are.....are you mad at me?"
"What? Why? Naw, baby. Just ain't can believe they made you do that, is all."
His being mad made her feel like Terrible cared about her.
Thoughts like that from Chess just remind me how truly damaged Poor Pitiful Chess truly is. I make no secret of the fact that although I cannot possibly begin to relate to Chess as a drug addict, I'm instantly drawn to her character and wish I could shake her and tell her, Terrible loves her unconditionally!
"But....no, you didn't want, um, you didn't want me anymore."
My heart goes out to Chess in Sacrificial Magic. It's seems her self loathing and paranoia are at an all time high. I'm still unsure whether her anxiety was drug related or if it's due to her new budding serious relationship with Terrible. Most likely it's a combination of them both. Her anxiety takes root and develops into a dark and ugly cloud, I just can't help but feel her pain right along with her, unfounded or not. She constantly worries if Terrible trusts her working so closely with Lex, she fears he may believe she's The Church Witch involved with helping Slobag work against Terrible. Any rational person could see that Terrible would never believe she would be working with Slobag against Bump and Terrible, but Chess isn't always a rational thinker.
For fuck's sake. She didn't spend most of her income on drugs so she could have clean fucking blood. And that green tea tasted like swamp water and death.
While Chess is investigating these murders and their involvement with a ChurchWitch and Bump and Slobag's men she acquires a new feminine friendship in Beulah and I hope to see their friendship build. It's almost like a friendship version of West Side Story. Regardless of how inconspicuous these forbidden lines are, they're still there and everyone in Downside is aware of them. I'm hoping that even thought they're from two different sides of the drug territories of Downside, Chess and Beulah are able to maintain a healthy friendship and perhaps balance out Chess' anxiety and self unsavory thoughts of herself. This friendship makes me smile, because Chess could really benefit from her first female friendship and everybody needs a friend to lean on. This friendship has the opportunity to give Chess the self worth she's lacking.
His door slammed shut behind her. She ran down the hall on unsteady feet, almost fell on the stairs. Wished she had fallen, and broken her stupid fucking neck on the way.
My emotions were in a blender; one moment I was laughing, giddy happy, then within a page turn I was crying, my chest felt heavy, and I felt the need to put the book down and walk away for a breather, yet I couldn't bring myself to walk away from this hot mess. For some unknown reason I'm drawn to dysfunctional characters like buttermilk batter on fried chicken. I devour every bit of this
Just when I think all hearts are safe in Downside, Stacia Kane scares me to death.
And Terrible.......he was just a thug. A violent thug at that. And he had something to do with drugs too, and prostitution and all manner of other things. He was not a good person. What redeeming qualities could a person like that have?
"Chess? What's troubling?" He loved her
In one scene I wanted to step in and mediate and calm the fire down because my heart was breaking into tiny pieces while Chess' Psychopomp was sucking it dry. Luckily for me, my most cherished books are those that, stir up emotions I had yet to realize I had available for a fictional relationship. As scared as these ghosts make me feel, I'm always left with the desire to live in this Magical Downside not so holy series of Downside Ghosts and pal around with Chess and flirt with her boyfriend Terrible.
"Stayed a while, though, aye?"
"I just---I almost died on that fucking catwalk---I was on a catwalk and it fell, that's how I hurt my cheek---and I didn't feel like being alone and I knew you were busy, and he was there."
"Oh, I dig. Hey, maybe you give me the number that dame Cassie, the one wore your face? Next time aught happens to me, I give her a ring-up for company. No worries, aye?"
This book was truly a gem to read, and I recommend this to any Urban Fantasy lover that prefers their read to be dark, gritty, sexy and fantastic! Downside fans will not be disappointed with this latest installment. The only unfavorable part of this book is that it ended.........however, Stacia Kane is spoiling us Downside fans because we only have to wait a few short months for the next book Chasing Magic to be released! I LOVED Sacrificial Magic!!!
"Love you, too, Chess." "You got that, aye? Ain't you know it? Love you right, till it hurts. Ain't goin nowhere, don't need to cry, 'sall right up----"
Ok so Magic Bites was good, Magic Burns was much better but not great and then Magic Strikes comes along and blows me away. Up until this book Ok so Magic Bites was good, Magic Burns was much better but not great and then Magic Strikes comes along and blows me away. Up until this book I liked both Kate and Curan but now I adore them and am anxious and excited to see how their world plays out, in all aspects not just their romance. Kate is definitely a heroine you would want on your side. She's Human but her magical powers forge her a step above the rest! I enjoyed immensely the tension between her and Curan. I'm also embarrassed to say that prior to reading this book I had underestimated him as an Alpha Male. He's a ferocious warrior when he must be and a gentle giant when Kate needs one, a sexy one at that ;-)
"You sure you don't want to kiss me good-bye, baby?" How about a good-bye kick to the throat?!"
Who doesn't enjoy that sexual tension? ;)
Kate showed real progress in her relationships with many characters in this book, allowing me to relate to her so much easier. She went from being a bit of a recluse (for self preservation) to engaging in friendships and realizing she doesn't want to live without these people, even risking her own life to save those whom she loves. I especially enjoyed the interactions with supporting characters and introductions of new ones.....Saiman, Andrea, Derek, Raphael, Jim, Dali and of course the gorgeous I am a delicious beast of a man, hear me rawr growling Beast Lord Curran.
"Friends are a dangerous thing." I told him. "You feel responsibility for them, you want to keep them safe. You want to help and they throw you off balance, and the next thing you know you're sitting there crying because you didn't make it in time. They make you feel helpless. That's why my father wanted to make me into a sociopath. A sociopath has no empathy. She just focuses on her purpose."
In my opinion the Midnight Games stitched Kate and her group of friends a.k.a. Fools together in a bond that will never be broken, a group of friends that go to great lengths, even risk their lives for one another. The action packed Midnight Games had me excited and on the edge of my chair in anxiety and cheer.
I'm glad I stuck this series out because during the duration of this book I've become excited to get to know Kate and her magical world she hilarious! She's witty, self deprecating, strong, powerful, loyal, courageous and has no shame, she will emasculate any man who thinks he can outwit her. I loved all the supporting characters and LOVE Curran ;-)
I understood all this and I still wanted him. He drew me like a damn magnet. I wanted him more than I'd ever wanted anybody before in my life. For those few moments he'd made me feel safe, wanted, needed, desirable, but it was an illusion. I had to get a grip.
This book was AMAZING. I LOVED it! I cheered, I laughed, I may have even cried...;) How could I not adore Kate Daniels and all her misfit friends! SheThis book was AMAZING. I LOVED it! I cheered, I laughed, I may have even cried...;) How could I not adore Kate Daniels and all her misfit friends! She's hilarious, and I devoured every page of this book.
Wow!!!! Curran has become one sexy Beast Lord. I just can't get enough of him.
This book was filled so many funny laugh out loud moments it's difficult to pin point one but I especially loved when Dali (basically an almost blind/cross-eyed vegetarian were-tiger) picked Kate up in her car nicknamed "Pookie" barely making it back to Kate's apartment in one piece lol. The chair incident involving Curran and the sealing of the locks on "Slut Hut" was fantastic! It was such a wonderful book, I can't say enough fabulous things to describe how happy this book made me feel, it's a bit like getting a HEA and the series isn't even over! The next best part is that Magic Slays is released tomorrow :-)))
Finally we get the treat of having sex in this book, the good kind too! Curran is ferocious and jealous and powerful and chivalrous and has only eyes for Kate. He's a God in bed. This book has to be one of the best books I've ever read. Magic Bleeds had plenty of action, fighting, romance, and Kate and Curran.
"And here I thought you were only pretending to be insane." Curran shook his head. "No I'm the real thing. Paranoid, violent, not happy unless things are my way.....I built this all so I can protect you. I need to know that you want it. I need to know if you will stay...."
Never underestimate Kate's Bad-Ass scale:
"What the fuck do you think you're doing?" the male voice said. Third man on the left. Tall, wiry. Sontag. I looked at him. "Ready to put your claws where your mouth is, or are you going to cringe behind the big boys and yip all day?" his eyes flared yellow. " Is that a challenge?" "Yes it is." He burst from the chair, turning furry in midflight. I sidestepped and slashed with my knife across his neck. Blood spurted from the severed carotoid like a jet from a water pistol, spraying the table. He swiped at me. I kicked him in the knee. Bones crunched. He went down. I grabbed his hair, cut hard across his neck, and kicked his head. His neck crunched, and Sontag's skull rolled across the table. His mate lunged at me. I stabbed her in the heart. She clamped her teeth on my right arm and I jabbed my fingers into her eye sockets. She howled. I jerked the knife out and stabbed her until she stopped moving. The whole thing took about half a minute. Eternity in a fight.
Kate and Currans love for one another was generously displayed in this book finally and it was stronger than I expected ;):
I surveyed the rest of the council and looked directly at Mahon. "Some if you know me. Some of you have seen me fight and some of you are my friends. Have your vote. But know this: if you come to remove me, cone in force, because if you try to separate me from him, I will kill every single one of you. My hand won't shake. My aim won't falter. My face will be the last thing you'll see before you die." I jammed the knife into the table and walked out.
"We will abide by the agreements of peaceful assembly," Curran said. "You're free to leave. Go home, kiss your wives, hug your children, and put you
"We will abide by the agreements of peaceful assembly," Curran said. "You're free to leave. Go home, kiss your wives, hug your children, and put your affairs in order, because tomorrow I will burn your neighborhood to the ground. We will kill you, your families, your neighbors, your pets, and anyone who will stand in our path. An attack on my family will not go unpunished."
Curran is still a force to be reckoned with and Kate is still pretty Bad-Ass. I still love all Kate's friends and Julie is a Mini-Kate so how could I not love her.
This book was pretty good, but no where near my favorite. It's definitiy missing something and I have a feeling it has to do with the Magic Bleeds "syndrome." Because I absolutely loved just how amazing Magic Bleeds was that even though Magic Slays was good, it just can no way compare with Magic Bleeds which in my opinion is the best book in the series. It's weird because most reviews I read prior to starting this book said how wonderful this book was so I feel bad saying it was good but not great. However I look forward to seeing what Ilona Andrews has in store for us next, I'm anxiously anticipating Kate's reunion with her biological father. This reminds me of the epic reunion of Luke Skywalker and his father, I have no doubt in my mind that it will be just as scary! ;-)...more
Never has any man fictional or non fictional ever made those words sounds enticing, much less sensual but Gena Showalter has succeeded in making the inner dialgue of Maddox, the keeper of Violence a voice I want in my darkest erotic fantasies. ;)
Maddox as the Keeper of Violence has kept himself wrapped up in a tight guarded space to ensure the safety of others around and especially around women. He's haunted by the violent actions of his past when he failed to control his demon of violence inside his body.
Ashlyn comes to him in the Forrest and she's equally as enamored with him instantly as he is with her. She has suffered her entire life haunted by voices of past and present of those that have once occupied a particular space she dwells in.. She comes in search of the mysterious men known as The Lords Of The Underworld for their assistance in seeking silence.
"She was everything he had never known he needed, everything he could never live without. She had......tamed him. What a treasure she was. He'd gone into the forest looking for a monster, but found salvation instead."
These tortured, curse inflictedDemon-Licious men have me mesmerized and eager to get to know all of them as I can now see why a huge majority of my GR friends have such devoted crushes on the tattooed warrior men. Showalter creates brilliant dialogue and scorchingly hotter sex scenes.
In The Darkest Night Showalter generously introduces us to these lustworthy men and listed below are the men that captured my interest in this book; Meet Maddox,The Keeper of Violence,Torin,The Keeper of Disease,Lucien,The Keeper of Death,Reyes, The Keeper of Pain,Aeron,The Keeper of Wrath, and ParisThe Keeper of Promiscuity. (that one hardly sounds like a curse, more like a man in his twenties). Other noteworthy characters I'm sure hope we haven't heard the last of is the spunky, powerful, rebellious, Anyadaughter of a god, and the feisty, goodhearted, strong willed Danika. I would highly recommend this series to PNR lovers alike. I plan to start the second book immediately and I anticipate getting lost in this sexily possessive world Gena Showalter has so brillantly created. I wish I could crawl in this dark fairy tale and live forever with a Lord of my own.;)
"You are mine, woman, and I am yours. Until you, my life was desolate, I existed, but I didn't truly Live. Now I live even in my death."
For those of us PNR lovers that have been living under a rock like myself, and have failed to hear about this fabulously intoxicating series The Lords of The Underworld then I highly suggest you crawl out from underneath it and experience these dangerously lustworthy men for yourself. An easy 5 stars!!!;)
"Right now I'm picturing you in a black leather suit with a sword at your side." Maddox said.
"When I wear it will I be fighting to protect my virtue, or fighting to take yours?"
"Mine, of course."
Thank you for the book recommendation Mrs. Vishous, and Becky!!!! :) I tried to add both of your names to the recommend line, however you both have such long names I'm not sure they both fit in the small space correctly ;) ...more

"I believed that and I clung to it as, once again, I Danann Frost Fell From Grace"
I absolutely LOVED this book!!! This book was recommended to me several months ago and sadly it just sat on my TBR list until now.
This uniquely written book is about Danann Frost an angel who Falls From Grace after she falls madly in love with Prince Seth a Dark One (Vampire).
Once Danann falls, Seth sends her away telling her to never come back, it's heartbreaking to read, but he still loves her but miscommunication seems to be their main difficulty throughout this book. He was only trying to protect her, because she was in imminent danger and he planned to track her later and flee to safety together for the happily ever after, but their fairy tale ended there.
He searches unsuccessfully for Danann and they both spend 200 years apart lost in their agony of love for one another. Their love story is truly epic as Seth has no boundaries to what he will do get Danann back even if he makes her angry in the process. Upon seeing eachother Seth is a complete barbarian the way he behaves toward Danann, truly a complete asshole but I love every minute of it! He's incredibly sexy and even more so when he's angry. His angry, possessive alpha behavior reminds me of the Archangel Raphael from Nalini Singh's Angel's Guild series which I love. Seth is ruthless and savage in his means that know no limits to make Danann Frost his Godess once again.
At one part in the book I loved it when Danann in heat of anger slaps Seth across his face painfully hard but instead of being angry he grabs her hand while smirking and kisses her palm, telling her that he doesn't want her to hurt herself when she slaps him. *sigh* Definitly hot romantic moments. This book has plenty of amazing sexual tension because it seems everytime I turn a page Seth and Danann have another misunderstanding drawing an emotional wedge further in their relationship but making the book so much more fun to read! Seth is possesive, jealous, angry, demanding while Danann is very stubborn and willful and makes it her goal not to let Seth rule her life, but when he comes back the fun has just begun for me as the reader ;-)
"Seth, I never thought to return to you because I believed that you did not want me; that you had sent me away. My King.......I Fell From Grace For You . Does that not tell you all you needed to know about how I felt?"
"My Godess, if only you could feel for me now as you did then.....Danann save me, my Godess, say that you love me. Promise to love me, only me always."
Danann Frost Falls From Grace is a breath of fresh air in the PNR genre.
I would recommend this book to those who love PNR and also fans of The Notebook. It reminds me of The Notebook with a paranormal flair. I simply Loved it!!!
Thanks Cat for the recommendation and also thanks to Mrs. V for your help in persuading me to read it :-) ...more

Jane True is awesome!!!! Somehow I always find that my favorite protagonists are the self deprecating, bullied types. Jane is just that. ;) she has a fun personality, she's charismatic, smart; whether it's her witty charm or her hilarious inner dialogue or maybe both. She's scarred by a reputation as "crazy" even though she's far from it, earning her the self proclaimed title "Pariah" of Rockabill Maine. Unfortunately the judgmental town folks are missing out on Jane, and anybody who hadn't read this series is missing out as well.
She's never going to be a slave to fashion.
I hadn't wanted Ryu to buy me anything and I certainly wasn't comfortable accepting such expensive gifts. So I didnt see what everything costs. I bet each pair of those red-soled shoes (Christian Loubitin) cost at least a hundred dollars. So you needn't worry, my sweets, I thought down at my battered old converse. Mommy will never replace you.
She says things and reminds herself of the consequences later.
From a great distance, I heard someone shout "Nooo!" in an anguished voice. It's all a lie," the voice continued, panicked. It was a very loud voice, I thought, as my stomach continued to heave. And very close. Very, very close, in fact. That's when I realized that the voice was mine. And all eyes if the Alfar Court were on me. I should have worn the underpants, I thought, as my brain began to understand the implications of what my mouth had just done. Because I am so going to die. All eyes were on me: some curious and some clearly shocked. Ryu's eyes expressed the latter sentiment-he was staring at me like he'd never seen me before in his life. I blinked, still able to believe I was the one who spoke. Crawl under the table! Now! my brain was shouting.
Ryu was a breathe of fresh air. I kept waiting to find something I didn't like about him but he's great; he kind, sexy, generous, plays Jane's Kiki like Jimi Hendrix played his guitar protective, witty, intelligent and Definitly someone whom you want on your side in battle. I look forward to more adventures Jane encounters and I'm hoping Ryu is along for the ride as well. "Catch me if you can!"
This book is a fantastic edition to UF with plenty of lovin' for us romance lovers to enjoy this book. Nicole Peeler has created an imaginative world with a protagonist I'm rooting for the whole way through. Through her writing Peeler makes me want to crawl into this book and investigate right along side of Jane, that's how appealing this book is. :)
Charley Davidson is such an inspirational protagonist from the beginning of this book I couldn't get enough "So many dead people, so little time."
Charley Davidson is such an inspirational protagonist from the beginning of this book I couldn't get enough of her. Easy 5 stars!!! This book took me on an adventure ride that i was sad and dissapointed when i finished, because i did not want to get off. So many times while reading I burst out laughing while reading: So beware when reading this in public ;)
Never have I read a book before with so many wonderfully imaginative and witty one-liners that I wanted to memorize them so I could store them into a box for later use.
Charley's a Grim Reaper with 3.7 jobs (her words not mine) her most prided position is her own Private Investigation business enabling her to work for the Albuquerque Police Department as her Uncle Bob's (Ubie to Charley) secret weapon of choice. She's snarky, sexy, intelligent, charasmatic, empathetic, quirky, tough, and hilarious.
"My P.I. techniques would never be the stuff of legend. They would never make it into criminology textbooks or university lecture halls. But I did feel that, with some focus, I could have a strong presence in chat rooms. If I couldn't be a good example, I'd just have to be a horrible warning.
Since she has been able to see dead people since she was born, she works solving various crimes including murder as well as getting messages back to the families of loved ones whom have passed. Though most are skeptic of her abilities she has a very few followers that believe in get ability but she doesn't flaunt it or share it with many for fear of their reaction or the fact that it may be too overwhelming for the person.
I felt this quote from the book accurately describes Charley: "That's what he told me. You ferry souls to the other side. He said you sparkle like a newborn galaxy and have more attitude than a rich kid with his daddy's Porsche."
Darynda Jones did a fabulous job creating the new and original character Charley Davidson. It's a breath of fresh air in Urban Fantasy. The plot had me guessing right up until the very end attempting to discover just what is Reyes??!! Only to discover I was completely wrong!
Each character was unique and fun; from Cookie the carefree supportive assistant, Debbie the wicked stepmother, Garrett the unbelievably sexy angry doubting skip-tracker, Reyes scary but deliciously sexy protector, Angel the dead 13 year old gang-banger Private Investigator, three deceased attorneys assisting Charley in solving their murder, as well as her supportive uncle and father.
I would recommend this to readers with a flair for Urban Fantasy looking for something new, mysterious and exciting!
I'm eagerly waiting to continue Charley's story with the release of Second Grave On The Left ...more

"I can't say I've encountered anybody with your level of anxiety outside of a straightjacket," Packard continues.
Justine is a hypochondriac, which is what makes her a ideal "dissilusionist." A a dissilusionist she helps to restore criminals to non criminal behavior by inadvertently "zinging" her health anxieties on to them mentally. These "zaps" bring criminals to their rock bottom forcing themselves to have empathy for their victims therefore assisting them to alternatives besides crime for a living. As part of her job as a health anxiety dissilusionist she must portray herself as a nurse which to me is quite funny considering most of training to qualify her as a nurse is her many trips to the ER to ensure herself that she isn't suffering a reaction to her neurological diagnosis called "Vein Star Syndrome." She takes her job as a "nurse" seriously and at time I question whether or not she remembers she's not really a nurse.
"Listen here, and listen good. You can take away my freedom, you can change my outfit, but you will never, never take away my dedication to my profession."
I really like Justine because she's so ridiculously pitiful. Whether its her health anxiety or just get overall low perception of herself. She has unrealistic obsessions, one of those obsessions is Chief Otto Sanchez. He gives me the creeps and he not even sexy in my opinion but in Justine's eyes he's a super sexy crime fighting hero who never leaves his beret behind. How sexy does that sound to the average person?! Ughhh. Lol. Unfortunately her perceptions of men and people in general are wrong but she has a good heart.
Justine see's the good in everyone even criminals making her job as a disillusionist that much more difficult. She feels empathy for these people putting her life in danger with the risk being caught. She's very likable, but dangerously naive, and her inner dialogue is brilliant, I laughed many times while reading this book at witty and insanely ridiculous things Justine either said or did.
Justine's boss of her psychlogical hit squad is Packard a stunningly cryptic gorgeous man but who wants her but, even though she feels something more than just a working relationship with him she doesn't fully trust him. Gosh I find Packard incredibly sexy. *Sigh*
"You chose wrong, Justine."
I loved this book, and would recommend it for anybody wanting a unique and original change to Urban Fantasy!
