"I am the begotten issue of the Bloodletter and the Scribe Virgin. And I say to you now, that I killed my father, not yours. " Lifting her palm, she peeled back and slapped him across the face. "And do not insult my blood."
I waited to read Lover Unleashed because of mixed reviews amongst my friends. I'm happy I finally read it because while this is most definitely not my favorite Black Dagger Brotherhood installment, it was still entertaining nonetheless. The main characters were supposed to be Manny and Paine but I found myself drawn to all of the side plots instead. First off I'm biased because ever since Mrs. Ward introduced us to Qhuinn, I have thought he was The Ultimate Cat's Meow, but this book only pushed my Qhuinn obsession over the edge made me realize how much I absolutely adore Qhuinn and Blay wholeheartedly.
Lover Unleashed picks up where the Warden left us at the end of Lover Mine. Paine is in dire need of surgical treatment to prevent paralysis. Jane finds herself on a race against time to locate her former boss and surgical genius Manny which was no surprise to us that this was going to be there story. while I enjoyed their story I didn't love it, however I did love Paine and all her badass ways.
"I'm about to cut your throat open with what I have being my back, after which I shall break both of your legs, not because I have to, but because I shall enjoy the sound. And then I will locate something steel with which to pierce your empty chest cavity and send you back to your maker. Or may I leave you to writhe on the ground."
I desperately missed the usual comradery amongst the brothers so I pathetically drastically clung to the bits and pieces Mrs. Warden so greedily shared with us in Lover Unleashed like fine rare jewels to be relished. However the very few bits we get from certain brothers was priceless, especially the banter between Wrath and Vishous.
"And your not in charge here. She's my responsibility not yours." Wrong thing to say on so many levels. "She is my blood." He snarled.
"And I'm the one that put her on that bed. Oh and I'm also your cocksucking King, so you will do as I command, Vishous."
"What's next the size of my cock?" "Hey, even pencils can get the job done---I've heard the moaning from your room to prove it."
It pains me to see that we're still dealing with all of Vishous's inner demons turmoil.
"What are the rules," the cop said. "There are none." Vishous spread his stance and braced himself. "Do whatever you want....but you have to break me. You've got to tear me apart."
I have hope that this is the last book we have to witness the pain behind Vishous's tragic story. I can understand he's hurt and troubled with the recent news of discovering he has not only a sister but a twin sister. I just hate the way he treated Jane in this book. It seems to me that even though it becomes obvious that he loves his Shellan, it's also so emotionally draining. My heart hurts for Jane in so many ways; she's a devoted kind, caring, intelligent, and loving Shellan but it's pains me read that it's still not enough to destroy Vishous's dark side. My heart also hurts for Vishous and it equally pains me to read, I really wish he and Jane would partake in his S&M fantasy together.
"Fuck.....No.......You're everything to me."
I found myself skimming through the part with the serial murderer plot line with Butch's former partner. I have a feeling "All will be revealed" of that storyline in Lover Reborn.
The most important and captivating part of Lover Unleashed for me was: Qhuinn & Blay! Blay & Qhuinn! Qhuinn & Blay! Blay & Qhuinn!! Qhuinn & Blay! Blay & Qhuinn! Qhuinn & Blay! Blay & Qhuinn! Qhuinn & Blay!!!
Although the main glimpses were inside Qhuinn's emotional angst head, I was mesmerized by them the entire book. I found myself anxious to turn the page in hopes for a glimpse of Qhuinn and Blay or the lack thereof a relationship with the two. Poor Qhuinn has suffered so very long for self deprecating and lack of judgement when it came to the man he loves; Blaylock. Unfortunately Qhuinn battles his own inner demons in this book and eagerly throws himself into vices to help dull his pain, including seeking out redheads for sexual companionship to mask the heavy ache in his heart for Blay, causing his more pain and self loathing. :(
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Because I want to fuck you. "You remind me of someone."
So many times in this book I wanted to crawl inside the book and scream "He loves you Blay! He loves you Qhuinn" I not ashamed to admit, I even shed a few tears for these gorgeous warriors whose emotions are being held hostage. I'm dying for their HEA. I like Saxton, I even hope he finds a happily ever after but just not with my beloved Blay because I want him for my tortured beautiful hero Qhuinn.
Please the Warden, I'm asking begging you, please hurry and put my Qhuinn out of his misery, and let him and Blay Finally get their well deserved HEA.
When you were trying to get away from yourself you gravitated to the loud and obnoxious, to the extremes, to the reckless because it forced you to scramble and hang on with your clawing nails to cliffs of your own self invention.
