I purchased this because it kept popping up on my amazon feed and the cover intrigued me, it was cheap and short so I decided what the heck. It was a novella that definitely kept my interest and I read in a single sitting.
I liked the premise, but the biggest flaw was the physical intimacy just all started so quickly. I know, I know this is a romance novel, but still. I guess I'm an old fuddy duddy. Having said that I thought the physical intimacy was written believably and realistically.
I will say I loved the idea that despite really seeing each other physically they fell for each other based on personality alone. I guess that is what took it up to 4 for me, great premise. (less)

However I found the plot to drag in general a bit. I read fast and this was a hard book to get through. The bouncing back and forth in time make it even more confusing. I can't even say I loved the end much either, I don't know. Just sort of a meh for me on a book that seems madly overhyped. (less)

They weren't evil, they just were instinctual. This book taught the lesson that sometimes the real evil isn't the clear target you've been taught to hate, sometimes it the hero you worshiped your whole life and sometimes evil is wrapped up in a package of indifference - turning a blind eye to anything you are too afraid to confront.
As you go along with Benny in his journey of become more aware of the world around him, you witness his transformation from a young boy to a young man. He still has his trademark sarcasm and quick wit, but he realizes that some of the truths he has clung to his entire life were not truths at all. You watch him grow and change from a typical teenager to an extraordinary man.
This book also explores what I think would be a basic truth, in times of tragedy, some men step up as heroes - men who likely seemed like nothing special in ordinary life, others use the tragedy to further their own greed and lust for power, others still let fear keep them trapped, silent and uneducated. Tragedy brings out the best in some and the worst in most.
This book was well written with rich characters I truly cared about and want to visit again. I think Maberry really did a fantastic job with making you stop and think about so much more than zombies. I highly recommend this!(less)

I considered giving up, but glowing reviews from my friends made me stick with it. At about page 100, I couldn't put it down at all and by the end I flew through the last 200 pages.
I really enjoyed the characters and the interworkings of their pain and how they have processed it. In the end I really wanted the best for everyone and I just loved the boys, Jonah, Chaz and even Jude. They were just swoonworthy in their goodness. I thought that Taylor and Raffy were fantastic too. Just well written great characters I'm glad I got to know.(less)

I liked the advancement of the plot and the twists and turns it took. I am now dying for the next book, so points scored for that one (a total OH NO YOU DIDN'T END IT THERE cliffhanger for sure!)
The thing I enjoy so much about books like this is that they are so easy to read because they are engrossing and enjoyable. I liked the characters and how the storyline was woven together. A great, fun, summer read for all who enjoy novels about the supernatural realm.(less)

I didn't believe in Zach/Luce the way I have many other couples, their love was just never sold to me. I was disappointed that the tasks were too literal, as that generally isn't the faerie way.
It was just meh for me. I finished it to get through it, not because of any sort of burning desire to find out what happened.
The characters were pretty one-dimensional, I thought Luce was neither here nor there. It was just a big pile of meh for me.(less)

Then probably Madeline, which seems to be quite a bit like Amy. Grace just seemed to be a bit rushed and Amy & Dan were especially rushed.
I'm sure now that the reboot has been set, the next book will be more entertaining than this one was. I think the disjointed looks through time sort of set a short story feel to it.(less)

I love this series because the characters are so multi-leveled, there is no stark good and bad or black and white. Cassel is such a great protagonist because he was brought up in the life of conning people to get the things he wants, but yet he also seems to have the conscience that his family is sorely lacking. You wonder how much of the conscience is there because he had so many of his memories stolen or simply because of who he is?
Everyone in Cassel's life seems to only care about what it is they can get from him, they need him, they use him, they pull him in many different directions. The only person it seems doesn't have an agenda with him is Sam, who has always seen Cassel for what he truly is and never cared.
The ending was a bit out of left field, but I assume this is to pave the way for another book? That is the only reason this was 4 instead of 5, because it just didn't fit and left me with that final HUH? (less)

For the first time in the entire series, I loved Keenan, he redeemed himself from being a grade A douche. I thought his fate was probably my favorite of all.
Niall became one of my favorite characters in the end and in this book he did not disappoint. I loved the twist at the end with them all living together, totally unexpected and I respected her for going there.
I thought having Leslie only appear in like 10 pages was sort of ridiculous and I'm still scratching my head at the entire point of the last book (i.e. the character of Devlin). I mean even Sorsha wasn't in this book. WHY? I guess she felt their lines were wrapped up.
Regardless, I really enjoyed this series and am glad I read it!(less)

I thought this was an interesting premise for the book. In the beginning, I found the switching back forth between time and people a bit confusing. I understand it was to fill in the back story, but other times this device was used it was Jael looking back through time, it just seemed inconsistent. It made the book choppy early on and as such I considered putting it down.
I found the father/daughter relationship to be confusing. In fact, I found her father to be almost disturbingly cold and almost vicious at times (for example when he tried to get Rob to lose interest in Jael). Being a loving father, albeit a poor one, doesn't reconcile with making those types of statements in front of your daughter even if your goal is to protect her. Then, his change of heart seemed all too sudden and abrupt and truly without real cause.
What I did love was the overall story line and in the end I simply couldn't put it down. I think what really resonated with me is how he took someone who was a halfbreed and gave them considerable more power than either breeds they were created from. I loved this because the idea that they were then the best of both transcends the supernatural aspect of the book and can really be a lesson for anyone.
I'm a sucker for a woman finding her power and rising above what she thought she could accomplish. I thought Rob was adorable as well. I thought the character of Jael was well laid out. I also loved how her mother was written, especially showing the change in her once she became a mother.
All in all I though this was a great first writing effort. Certainly at times it was choppy, but I felt there was enough good in this book to outweigh the things that bothered me. The last 30% of the book I really didn't want to put it down. I would definitely check out books from this author in the future.
OH! My favorite part of the book? It ends. It wasn't a "to be continued". Sure, this could become a series, but it wasn't automatically set up as one. No cliffhangers of doom. Just an ending. So nice to find a book with an ending.
I have to thank the publisher of this book for allowing me to preview this book prior to publication through netgalley! (less)

I love Donia's strong will, even though it crumbles.
I am tired of Ash's wavering between the Seth and the douche.
Niall, not going to lie, I love every bit of him. I think most of all I love his absolute hatred for Keenan and his loyalty to Seth.
All told, three books into the series, I find it still enthralling and I can't wait to find out what happens next.(less)

I thought this book was absolutely fantastic. The world Roth created was rich and vibrant, each faction was very well fleshed out (except for Amity, but I imagine we'll hear more about them to come). I thought the characters were all engaging, even those you hated.
My love for Tris and Four really knows no bounds. Roth doesn't shy away from making Four both super masculine and unafraid to share his vulnerabilities. That is why I connected with his character so much.
Roth is also a master at those little moments that are full of sexual tension that burst through the pages. The passion between these two was undeniable.
I loved all of the twists and turns along the way, even those that made me so sad and disappointed and I'll be among the very first to read the next book the moment it comes out!!!

I never felt the "love" connection this time between Lena and Ethan. I did like seeing the descent of Amma and the plot turn with Liv, but all in all it was pretty disappointing. I'll definitely read the last book to find out how it all ends, but I think they could have condensed this book into far less than 500 pages without losing much.(less)

I loved having the dueling men in her life, the one who represents love and warmth and happiness and the one who keeps her reminded of her grief, of what she's lost, of what she misses. I think the poems really added something to the story and I loved the way it came together at the end. I also want my own bunch of Fontaine brothers living down the road, tyvm.(less)
