For a short while it was lagging slightly and then the last two thirds of the book really kicked it up. I find it interesting that Lawrence and James MAxey have a similiar basis for their worlds... and while interesting they both leave me scratching my head slightly... i don't want to spoil it so its hard for me to put in words what i mean... i just think that society would develop slightly differently... damn, its hard without spoiling.
Suffice the Prince is a driven ruthless creature who acts far more mature than his years, has a natural intuition, and a nver surrender attitude. There are no "good guys"... well actually there sort of are, but the main characters in this are pretty rough and ruthless, i actually enjoyed it more than Best Served Cold by Abercombie ( i detested most of the character 'development" or de-evolution in BSC) as a revenge book.(less)

Before i even get to the story lets talk technical. Crouch and Konrath have been talking about eBooks being MORE than just a story in digital format but making it more interactive, like DVDs have become. This story combines lines fromover a dozen novels and many many short stories (most of which i still haven't read. That said they have hyperlinked most of the characters and some of the situations in the book. So when you get to a new character you can click on the name (i read the story on a Kindle so i don't know how it would work elsewhere) and it will take you to an appendix that will tell you the first book or story the character is in and a little info. There is also a complete timeline of all the stories and novels if you're one of those people who wants to get the whole thing in order.
Onto the story... i never like to reveal too much and i won't today, suffice that this is the stated end of the Jack Daniels series and the Andrew Z Thomas series and they pulled out all the stops bringing back almost every character either in the flesh or in the spirit. Luther Kite is just Diabolical... a planner to the nth degree. His playground of Horror is truely demented, a work of evil genuis. Besides all the horror and darkness we have Harry McGlade, who has to be one of the funniest characters EVER... i can only imagine him teamed up with Andrew Mayhem... the humor is a little different but seriously, McGlades pointers on parenting are hilarious, had me laughing so loud. Simply wonderful.
If all of that is not enough then how about a complete 180 twist ending? Seriously it will knock you on your butt, I thought i had figured out half of the mystery, i picked up an early clue and was happy, then they pulled the rug out from under me. I was right about the cl;ue but complete wrong about motive, and some other details i can't mention without spoiling.
Great Story, High Body count, excellent characters, fantastic humor to liven the mix. Seriously do yourself a favor and grab the book.(less)
