It's written by a Cambodian born after Vietnam vanquished the Khmer Rouge from much of the country, and a variety of Cambodian and foreign researchers aided him. The book's main limitation is that it doesn't significantly explain the intellectual roots of the Khmer Rouge (i.e. it doesn't answer the question 'why'), the Cold War context (the Vietnam War isn't really a factor), or the debates and competition among Communists.(less)
