She was chosen on her 18th birthday by the archangel Michael. She has her best friend, Cheryl, by her side, who is also an angel, but where in Sera is an angel of death, Cheryl is an angel of mercy. The relationship between these two is amazing. No one could ask for better friends in each other. Their loyalty and love for one another is unwavering.
Destin meets Sera at his best friend's wedding, which Sera catered. Once Destin sets his sights on Sera, he must get to know her. Unfortunately, He didn't get much of an opportunity at the wedding. However, fate had other plans. Turns out Destin is a food critic and happened to review Sera's bakery, Heaven on Atlantic, not knowing who she was, other than a name when they met briefly at the wedding. After Sera reads Destin's review, she tries distracting herself with baking, which is usually therapeutic for her, but instead she finds herself at the newspaper where Destin to give this critic a piece of her mind. Sera sees Destin wondering what the guy from the wedding is doing there. Once the receptionist informs Destin that Sera is there to see him, she realizes that he is the critic that wrote the not so favorable review of her bakery.
After making a bit of a scene in the lobby, Destin convinces Sera to go to a coffee shop to discuss things further. After a little back and forth, Destin has the crazy notion to kiss Sera...something he wanted to do since seeing her at the wedding. She storms off and from that point Destin is determined to set things right.
Destin decides to pay a visit to Sera's bakery and as much as Sera wants to hate him, she finds him actually quite charming, and that he seems knows what he is doing in the kitchen. Soon enough, he becomes a fixture at the bakery. There are times that Destin wants to spend more time with Sera, outside of the bakery, however, she tells him that she has a night job and he finds it strange how secretive she is about it. Eventually things become strained and Sera fears that she will lose Destin, but she isn't sure how to tell Destin that she is an angel of death. The last man she dated and confided her secret to thought she was crazy. She was incredibly hurt by that and since then promised herself she wouldn't never let anyone else on her secret ever again.
Will Destin be able to look past the fact that Sera refuses to open up about this double life she is leading? Will Sera be able to trust Destin with her most precious secret?
The author did a fantastic job of developing these characters. I especially enjoyed Sera's best friend, Cheryl. I know this is a standalone book, but I sure hope this girl gets her own story. Something tells me it will be quite a journey. The one thing I wish the author would have focused more on was the paranormal aspect of the story. It was more romance than paranormal. I am a huge fan of stories dealing with angels or fallen angels. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the characters and the overall story. Great read! ...more

Two worlds come together in this amazing tale of discovering how a beautiful young woman died and why she's haunted a bed and breakfast since the 1870's.
Jackson is a recently single man, who is going through a tough divorce after he discovered his soon to be ex-wife has been having an affair with his best friend. The last thing on his mind is finding love. He is devastated and seems to be struggling with the betrayal. He refuses to talk about what happened with anyone and instead chooses to just not think about it. In order to do that, he needs to keep busy, so he takes a job at his friend's pub, Millie's Pub and Bed and Breakfast.
There he meets Kristen. A beautiful and sassy southern belle who becomes enamored with Jackson. One night when Jackson leaves the bar, he looks up in the window of the bed and breakfast as sees a figure standing at the window. After spending time with Kristen, Jackson discovers that Kristen is very well versed with the history of their town, and most importantly the ghost stories associated with Millie's. Jackson recruits Kristen in finding out the real story of what happened to Millie.
What starts off as simple detective work and research, turns physical and dangerous for them, especially Kristen, who Millie seems to have taken a dislike to.
This was a page turner from start to finish, as I wanted to know more of Millie's story and help her find peace and justice. I loved the budding relationship between Jackson and Kristen. I am not talking romantic relationship, but their friendship. The closeness they developed while on this quest was really something great and rare. And I think as Jackson got to know Millie, he realized that they both needed healing and seeing their relationship heal each other was amazing. I loved every minute of this book. ...more
