I was fascinated by the thought of a 'sick girl' with a blood condition that begins to get new transfusions that make her feel strong and normal for the first time in her life. Shay becomes addicted to the feeling of strength and being able to enjoy being young. She breaks into her step-father's office to find he has chained the vampire she has been having visions of during the transfusions to a table. Shay is horrified and frees him but gets taken hostage in the meantime. Shay feels responsible for Gabriel's weakened state. She stays with him until he gets strong enough to go home. Through interactions both learn that classifying people by stereotypes doesn't allow their true character's to shine through.
Many secrets are uncovered that reveal the true nature of Shay's disease. The book was an interesting take on vampires. I really enjoyed it and was excited to read the next....more

AllisonIf you are looking for a fresh paranormal romance thriller, Warriors of the Cross delivers. I found the summary of this book to be intriquing. Allison La Crosse is a resident doctor who was born and raised in a big family full of love in LA. She gets her residency at a University Hospital in Galveston, TX and moves there by finding a room to rent sight unseen. When she arrives she meets Clark her landlord who is a medical malpractice lawyer and has an instant connection with him. Clark makes Allie feel as though she has known him her whole life and they fall into an instant friendship. At her residency, she has the stereotypical mean girls and one very hot chief resident, Brody. Allie met Brody as he stormed out of Clark's just as she arrived in Galveston. Brody is extremely attractive and sets Allie afire with intense looks and alternatingly avoiding her.
Besides the Romance, there are many layers to this unique plot. It takes place in a hospital and there are medical patients and cases coming and going like a really good episode of ER. The descriptions are both realistic and enthralling. It really reads well and I didn't want to put it down. When I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about the characters and plot. There begins to be a mysteriousness surrounding Allie's dreams and strange healing abilities. She seems to take on the patient's symptoms and therefore suffers with each healing. Brody helps her through and Clark is the ever present friend. There are several clues about the real struggle that is the underlying plot of good and evil going on such as shadows, pulsing bright radiant light, and ornate crosses. This books is so good I refuse to ruin it with any other spoilers about the plots. For me this is one of those books that once your find out the secrets it is so illuminating that you want to go back and re-read the book to see it from an enlightened prospective. I can't wait to read the next book. I can only hope it won't be too long of a wait. For a limited time, this is a free book on Kindle and definitely worth putting on your to read list. You will not be disappointed....more

The beginning was similar to other paranormal reads: mysterious new guys, girl with tragedy. Part of the fun was trying to piece together the way Skye, Devin, and Asher fit together. About half way through the book, you begin to understand who and what Asher and Devin stand for. I found this a really interesting take on this mythology. The dilema Skye finds herself struggling with is what really what attracted me to the story. "On one level, that was totally true. I was torn, trying to choose between two things: Asher or Devin, The Order or the Rebellion, Self-preservation or heartbreak. Control--or finally letting go" This quote perfectly describes the conflict that Skye feels. Most of time is trying to piece together who is good for Skye. I found myself questioning things I always thought about light and dark. In other words, this book made me think. The second half of the book is faster paced with more action and twists coming that I really didn't forsee. The only reason I didn't give this a full 5 stars was because of the abrupt cliffhanger! It is really a good one which can be frustrating for someone impatient for a nice ending like me. ...more
Ok--I originally started reading this books when I got the free sample for my nook. I was facinated by the fact that it took place in Gainesville, Florida. As a native Orlando Floridian, It was cool to find a book set locally about the paranormal. I have to say overall I really liked the book but the second half was much better than the first. I sort of felt like there wasn't enough interplay between the main romantic interests, Samuel and Alina, for me. It was another one of those they fall madly in love without really knowing each other. While this doesn't always bother me as a storyline, I didn't feel the chemistry between them at first and feel like with the addition of a few more interactions with them it could greatly help this develop earlier in the book.
That being said I enjoyed the take on Immortal/Vampires in this book. Alina is a native Gainesville girl moving into her first apartment with her best friend and starting school at UF. She meets a gorgeous guy on the flight in, Samuel who happens to be in one of her classes. She also meets another hot guy, Duncan, who is more forward and charming. She is drawn to both but Duncan starts using her best friend as a way to be near her which of course in girl code makes him off limits. There are some parallels to other vamp favs such as Twilight and Vamp Diaries but I like to judge each book without judging the similiarities. If fan fiction bugs you, you may not like this book but I would urge you to wait until the second half.
Immortals are people who have contracted the Lamia virus which makes them heal fast, become attractive, and essentially Immortal. They do not drink blood, can eat food, go out in the sun, but the virus is passed through a bite. The worst part is that only about 1 in 10,000 people survive infection. Alina is sought out a possibility to be turned. She is also a pawn between the frenemies of Samuel and Duncan. I liked that in the end Duncan is turning out to be a bad guy which gives more credibility to the story if you ask me because I am tired of the love triangle and this offers a twisted mind play on that.
Definitely worth the read I feel and it's characters have stuck with me and have me thinking about what is coming in the next book so I feel it is definitely a 4 star. ...more
