My Thoughts: I am very glad that my first mystery novel was A FOR ALIBI, because it was an awesome read. I love Sue Grafton's writing style, it flows nicely and makes it an easy novel to get zoned into. The mystery itself was amazing; being an addict of crime dramas and true crime TV shows (when I watch TV that is) I thought there was no way I'd get good suspense from a novel. I was wrong. I had myself guessing the killer, and thinking what would happen next; and whether I was right or wrong, the outcome was pieced together perfectly. No matter if you are a mystery buff or not, pick up A FOR ALIBI and get to know P.I. Kinsey Millhone. I know I will be working my way down the alphabet shortly. :)
Favorite Quotes: "It was a mouth built for unnatural acts." (Page 180) "What remains is familiar but subtly changed, like a glimpse into the future where certain laws of nature have been altered by the passage of time." (Page 208) "As long as I was running, the fear seemed contained, adrenaline driving out every sensation except the urge to flee." (Page 411) "The streetlights at that distance seemed pointless and whimsical and cruel, illuminating nothing, marking a path to safety that I couldn't reach." (Page 413) "I hated hide-and-seek. I'd never been good at that as a kid. I always jumped right out when anyone got close because the tension made me want to wet my pants." (Page 417)

My Thoughts: Now this is a romance novel! VISION IN WHITE is the perfect mix of romance, both sweet and sexy. The characters are amazing. Mac and Carter and the sweetest couple; Carter being an adorable, clumsy, nerdy teacher, while Mac is a successful pulled together, yet relationship shy, wedding photographer. This book flows perfect from Mac's job to her personal life, and both sides are just as entertaining. VISION IN WHITE is both funny and sweet, with a bit of sexy, tender, classy, and warm all thrown in. The friendship of the "quartet" is a nice bonus to this book and I love the interaction between the 4 of them, but this story really makes you want to keep reading to get to the next encounter between Mac and Carter, which is always what you're wanting it to be, and more. This is a real romance novel, pure and wonderful, without any crap. It's what all romance novels should strive to be. A beautifully perfect story with amazing characters that make you want to read more and more. I loved this book, it's definitely a keeper, and I can't wait to read the others in this series. :)

My Thoughts: I had high expectation for this book, mainly because of the promising storyline, and that fact that Nora Roberts wrote it. BRAZEN VIRTUE is the first on my "no" list of her books. I found the book to be decent, but was it good enough to recommend to anyone? Not really. I felt that different parts of the story (suspense vs romance) were competing with each other and neither side got 100% effort put into it, both sides lacked greatly. The characters were okay, but then their personalities got on my nerves (especially Jerald and company), I didn't care for some choices about what they did or said (this would be aimed more at Grace and Ed), and it seemed they just kept having the same conversations over and over. Another thing I didn't care for was that some scenes seemed to drag on, and usually those scenes were almost pointless. There were some parts of the book that were good, but at the end of the day that fact was that BRAZEN VIRTUE was very predictable. Very. It's not a book I'd recommend, and I think if someone made it their first Nora Roberts read they wouldn't get the experience of how good her books normally are. Nora Roberts is a "yes", but that doesn't apply to this book.
Favorite Quotes: "Shouting at Kathleen was the equivalent of reading War and Peace in the dark. All you got was a headache and no understanding." (Page 44) "He could miss something, something vital, if he thought of the way she was sitting in the other room like a broken doll." (Page 57) "There was a smell of violation in this house." (Page 61) Grace ~ "Didn't you ever want to go right for the heart of it and the hell with the details?" (Page 180) "This was the most vital story she'd ever manipulated." (Page 213)

My Thoughts: This book was a incredible story. It is about a serial killer with a major somethin' somethin' for all things 8-legged, but it also includes some more "sensitive" topics that some people might be opposed to reading. For me, personally, I thought it was a great read front to back. The characters were as well written as the unique story. There wasn't a single character who wasn't written into their role with perfection. It did get a bit confusing near the 3/4 mark, but once I realized that some scenes were in the past while others were in the present, it got easier to understand. SAY GOODBYE had an amazing story, with incredible plot twists and behind-the-scenes discoveries that were truly genius. I read this 360 page book in all the spare time I had in a 24 hour span, it was so engrossing I couldn't put it down. I can't get over how creative the storyline was in this book. It's the kind of story where if it was a movie, some things coming to light would make you gasp in shock in amazement of the secrets that were revealed. I can't think of anything that I didn't like about this book. I'd say this was one of the most original, well thought out stories I've read in a long time, and it definitely earned a place as one of the top novels I've ever read.
Favorite Quotes: Mac ~ "But if you want the inside skinny, she'll do anything you want for vanilla pudding. I keep snack packs stashed in my car. It's probably the only reason I'm still alive. Oh, and don't forget plastic spoons, otherwise it gets ugly." (Page 26) Delilah ~ "For a moment, I kind of thought...maybe I was a specimen, too. You know, Slutto hookeroso." (Page 38) "They understood what it was like to strive so hard to save a stranger's life while living each day knowing they had failed the ones they loved. Mostly, they understood the importance of always moving forward, because if you stood in one place too long, you risked getting crushed by the boulder weight of regret." (Page 86/87) "The night sky yawned above her. A pinprick of stars. The more distant glow of the city. She forced herself to take in the shadowed outline of the trees, the bushes, the distant horizon. Nothing loomed in the dark unknown." (Page 106) Kimberly ~ "I'm a federal agent. Wading into shit is my job." (Page 107) Mac ~ "Did you hit the bar scene? Go hooker shopping? Or did you stand on a street corner and call, 'Here Mr. Freaky Scary Man. Come find fresh bait.'" (Page 108) "She wanted to ask him everything, so she asked him nothing at all." (Page 183) "The first gust of wind hit, laced with rain, tasting like distant pines." (Page 238/239) "The men drifted down the street and, soon enough, were swallowed by the gloom." (Page 340) "I'm patient, careful, observant. Just a spider on the wall, you know, slowly spinning my web." (Page 354)

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this novel. It had a lot of twist and turns and stuff going on behind the scenes that leaves you a little clueless for a while, but that's not a bad thing. I liked the characters, they were complex and unique. I love books that have "side stories", usually related to the past, and ALONE did not disappoint in that area. I had myself guessing back and forth what I thought of certain characters - good? bad? victim? predator? It was a fine line, and I think it gave a nice overall effect that deepened the characters. I did find myself a bit confused as all the secret mysteries revealed themselves, seemingly all at once, it was hard to keep them straight. But, most of the things I was questioning got sorted out, and there were some very interested developments that kept my attention. However, I did find myself with some unanswered questions, it felt a little unfinished, but I think that was the way it was meant to be, some of the characters just swarmed themselves in secrets. All in all, ALONE was a great suspense novel, and I'm very curious to see how the rest of Detective D.D. Warren series plays out.
