The plot is twisted and very confusing. I didn't like what happened from the start... I wanted to stop reading it, but it was intriguing enough to hold my attention.
From the start of the book, I believe that the main character, Sky has been making bad choices after another. It's just so unbelievable. To me, she's one selfish and really darn confused woman. The other characters are equally annoying. I had high hopes for Alexander, but he's just..ugh.. I can't even begin to describe what he did that I can't really forget.
The conflict just also kept piling up after one mystery to another. The pages weren't enough to explain everything properly. This is one book that shouldn't have been a novella. Maybe if it was longer, I would appreciate all conflicts, mysteries and lies.
All in all, this made for an intriguing hour, but I can't say I liked what I read. (less)

This book is such is great mixture of action, drama, romance and all other intense feelings that one can imagine! It's like watching a movie! I love how the author carried on with the story. It's timely, detailed and very heartfelt. What I love best here is how their love story was validated along with the threat to their lives. Many things became clear and the possibilities are endless for the next book.
HOW THIS BOOK FELT LIKE
I want to put it out there that this book has a different kind of feel when compared to Earth (book 1). Earth was all about trying to defend and hold on to the planet that we all grew up in. It was also all about the two main characters getting to know each other. Roth is all about surviving in another planet, knowing your priorities and loyalties lie.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and NEW ONES INTRODUCED
I would definitely say that both Mattie and Marduke have grown up emotionally and mentally here. They both had a lot of learning to do before the end of this book. I think they both felt an array of emotions in this book.
Mattie's new condition makes her feel vulnerable, protective and yet she's still struggling with the thought of claiming back Earth. There were times wherein I felt angry with her character because she's so darn stubborn and kind of suicidal, but then she bounces back and rationalizes everything. Then I also have to step back and think of what she thinks and I forgive her character. >.< This happened lots of times in this book. I could also feel Marduke's frustration when it comes to Mattie. He's also scared to death and all he can think about is how Mattie will survive after everything. He's just so into her, it's amazing and heartwarming. He's very different from the people from his family. Aside from being the only sane one, I think he's the only one capable of having various feelings. This is why I love him though. He's different and he's not afraid to show this to Mattie.
I didn't pay attention much to the other I don't like one new character in particular. I hated Kane. He's a mean bully! Mattie rationalized his actions in the end.. but I still strongly dislike him.
MORE ACTION PARTS - check!!
I love the thrill of this book. It's like there's action in every turn. There are more creatures and what's more surprising is that the creatures and robots fight in this book! EXCITING!!!
This book is a test to the belief of a person. People from different countries have different beliefs. Imagine if it's another planet that we're talking about. I think that would be like a meteor-falling-on-your-head moment. Really, when I imagine talking to a person from another planet, I keep on thinking that we'll have so many barriers, they wouldn't understand me, so they'll just start shooting! Haha! I know, morbid. But the main point is, this book will make it hard for the characters to hold on to what they believe is right or wrong. It's a good thing that Marduke is so damn in love with Mattie and is willing to do all the "changing of belief"
What if you fall in love with an alien and the said alien's race captured yours? Where would you loyalty lie?
I guess one of the problems here is Mattie's and Marduke's loyalty issue. While reading the book, I can totally feel Mattie's loyalty to her home planet, Earth. It's so obvious I could almost taste it. Marduke on the other hand is more subtle. If you read between the lines, you'll see that somehow, he's proud of his history and his people. This poses a big problem to the both of them because it's a conflict of interest sometimes. Sometimes I don't know if Mattie would just drop Marduke all together and go all out in fighting their opponents. I guess she hasn't fully decided on which side she'd take... well, not until the end. I would say that I agree with her choice. :) I approve.
THE ENDING AND WHAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO
I like the ending. It's open ended enough that I know I should look forward to the next planet and the people in it. I also like it because somehow, they were able to wrap up some conflicts. I have great faith that my other favorite characters will be reunited. I also have a feeling that there would be more antagonists and the adventure parts will also pile up. Of course I'm also looking forward to the conclusion of their love story. That's more important to me than anything because I have grown to love these two characters. It's them against the whole universe... and I'm on their side! haha! :)
I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review.

The plot is supposed to be quite simple really, an animal communicator meets a Scottish shapeshifter... It's predictable that they should fall for each other and bam! Happily ever after. However, it's not that simple. There are other factors... like a fiance back home waiting for the heroine, a curse that'll doom the hero's fate and a greedy man who's actions got out of hand. This is a story of how their lives change in just a short time.
I enjoyed every twist and turn in the story. It made me very interested in their history. Ahem, I even researched on bear legends! I almost always enjoy shifter stories... there are so many things that can happen and it's unpredictable.. this one just like that. It surely is magical. :)
Paisley, the animal communicator has a good heart, but she has been shunned away by everyone except her grandma and (ugh!) her fiance because of her gift. She finds peace with her grandma and goes to the highlands and meets the hero. I like how she handles herself around Creighton. He's very intimidating, but she stood up for herself... Not at first, but she got the hang of it! I will be honest as to say that I didn't like her crying jag. She was always crying... even in scenes that I didn't think were dramatic enough. Anyway, I still like her because she's not a pushover when it comes to Creighton.
Creighton, the laird of the land has a lot of responsibilities. He has to do what needs to be done. With the curse hanging over his head, he's now more on edge. When he meets Paisley, he couldn't trust how he feels right away. He has to think of the clan, but all he thinks of is Paisley... an obsession of some sort. :) I like how he is with Paisley too. He's considerate and he's always very sweet. It might be a tad bit too cheesy, but it's okay. He's like a romance poet in some scenes. A shifter poet! Nice! ;p
THE COMPLICATION in this book teaches us that there are just some things that a person shouldn't lie about. It also tells us that the truth will come out eventually and it will bite you in the ass if you're not careful.
THEIR BANTER is what YOU SHOULD LOOK FORWARD TO!! It's entertaining! They fight with words and then make up later! I love it! It's a part of this couple's charm.
The other characters are great! They made the story more colorful. The brothers surely are something to look forward to as well. They are hilarious when they're together!! ^___^ Paisley's grandmother is also so nice and um... rare. haha! I can imagine her outfits.I love her because she's so good to her grand daughter. One of the best grandmas in fiction land!
THE ENDING is a bit abrupt. I wanted to know more. I wanted to see them get married. I wasn't looking at the page, so I was shocked to find out that I was on the last page. MORE PLEASE!!
All in all, if you like highlanders, magic and humor... this one's for you! I give this a 4!

I review books according to how I feel after I read it. I'll try really hard to let you guys know how I feel about this book.
DISCLAIMER #2: This is a review for a FICTION book and all the things that I'm about to write is solely for the review of this book, nothing more than that.
DISCLAIMER #3: I own two dogs. One is a five year old Japanese Spitz, the other is a 4 month old Shih - tzu and I love them to pieces, so forgive me if I don't post a lot of bad things regarding the dogs in this book even though they are technically part of the bad guys brigade.
China Dogs is a book that you'd probably see in a slow-burn shelf. It builds up gradually. It doesn't have a lot of full on action, but it does contain gruesome details that will make you wretch if you pay a lot of attention to it. I will be very honest as to say that I almost dropped this book because I was bored at the start. Don't drop it though! Read it through and you'll see... it gets better.
It's as thick as concrete. The plot is nicely woven, interlaced and pretty much sealed with iron bars. I did not get the entirety of it until I was about 85% done with the book. It revolves around a plan to put down the US, a plan concocted by a mad general and a president (together with his other allies) of China who's still clinging to power. They sic the devil dogs on unsuspecting American civilians and all hell breaks loose.
The hero is described to be freaky since he's albino. In my head, he looks like the guy from Resident Evil. The bad one, Albert Wesker. There's just something about this guy that reminds me of him. Hmm.. Anyway, obviously, our hero is not bad. He has a strong sense of justice.
I love the fact that he knows when to fight physically and when to fight in the sidelines. He's not hot tempered. He seems to be pretty cool guy. He just takes his job seriously (thank God for that). I think his best scenes are those of him brushing off angry officials. I like his "I-don't-care-what-y'all-say-I'm-doing-what-I-want-now" attitude. He is in fact a lover AND a fighter. I like how he developed feelings for the heroine and how unafraid he was of showing it. :)
THE OTHER CHARACTERS
The heroine is pretty good at figuring things out. She's kick ass, yet sweet and really nice to our hero. I like her, but then I was so focused on the hero that she just blended in the limelight. Hmm..
Danny is a good hacker but a sucker brother. I don't care how good of a hack lead he's following... He needs to talk to his sister more.
The Scientists are to be pitied. I hated them at first, but in an unexpected twist in the plot, I pity them. What they thought was true is just a covered up lie, it's heartbreaking.
The dogs are to be pitied more! Mygosh! The things they did to those poor
The bad guys are really tough and so intelligent, it's not laughable. I like how the author depicted them. They seem to have honor in mind and yet they create violence. It's so weird. I can't explain it. Maybe this is why they make such good villains, I couldn't figure them out. Well, all except for one. The General? Ooohh.. I could really explain them to y'all, but that would mean heavy spoilers so all I can say is that you better watch out for his um.. dark character. -_-
THE VICIOUS SCENES
I can't exactly call them action parts since they were all darn vicious. I admire the author's way of describing what he wants his readers to see. I COULD TOTALLY SEE RIPPED FACES, TORN LIMBS, CUT OFF FINGERS AND CHEWED OUT STOMACHS. I know, I know blood and gore. I don't love it, but I still salute the author for making me vividly see these in my imagination. It made me want to be there and go all kickass on the dogs, even though I have no idea how to shoot.
THE ENDING and my issues with it
I said so before, I almost dropped this book because I was bored at first... but then the story picked up and there were lots of heart pounding scenes... and then that ending happened. It felt incomplete. :( I'm sorry, but there's just something missing. If only the author gave me something more... like 5-10 pages more about the wrap up. I wanted to know more about the virus. Is this a series? Why was it cut off like that? Hmm...
All in all
I enjoyed the good parts of this book. I love the thrill etc. I was going to give this a 4, but then that ending happened. I'm giving this a 3.5!!
I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review

Shimmer - This is quite a different take on The Little Mermaid. I wish I could say that I was wowed by the story, but sadly no. It's kind of sad and it left me hanging. I thought it was just normal because of the length of the book, however, once I finished all the other stories, this one just pops into my um-open-ended-ending-sucks list.
Between - THIS IS MY VERY FIRST GIRL X GIRL RELATIONSHIP BOOK. At first it was weird for me, but as the story went on, I understood how the main character felt. She is as frustrated and as confused by the events in this book. She just couldn't be herself in front of everybody. She just wants the love, acceptance and attention of her mom, so she resorts into what she thinks is best for her. However, her decision affected the life of a very important person to her. This is her story of forgiveness, wishes and revelations. It has many lessons, but the glaring one would be... (I'm quoting Gobber from How To Train Your Dragon here) "stop trying so hard to be something you're not". I think it's just plain exhausting. Needless to say, this was a good read. :)
Sunset Moon - A troubled girl meets a really troubled boy who leaves her to lie for his ass. Not a fun story? You can say that again. Half the time, I was thinking of virtually hitting the girl on her head for not listening to adults who are there for her. She was given another chance though. A good chance for rebirth. Except for the love story part, I pretty much like this book. This is a good book for all teens because it will make them realize what's important and unimportant in life. This will teach teens not to dwell on the bad parts, but think of what's good instead. Lastly, this book tells everyone that there's hope for everyone.
The Maker - This is probably the creepiest, most disturbing story in this bunch. A guy gets left by his girl after being in an accident. He wanted revenge, but at the same time, he admits to still being obsessed with the girl! He's so confusing. He calls upon an entity which is basically good. He orders this entity to do his bidding to extract revenge on his ex. The ending is kind of bizarre in my opinion. Anyway, this is a good book to read when you feel like you want to have revenge on someone because it shows only one ending and it's not good. REVENGE = BAD KARMA FOR YOU TOO.
A Beautiful Mourning - This is a very good story of forbidden romance. Dieties are one of my favorite type of characters. The possibilities are endless with them. This book is about two of them who finds themselves in love, only to be blocked by a wall named "father". Yeah, I know It's a bit cliche, but I still enjoyed reading about their perils and their sweet moments. I like the setting and its descriptions. I believe that the author made me really imagine the heavens and middle land. The ending is nicely woven. I don't particularly love it, but it's the best that could happen, all things considered.
The Barricades - This story takes on a different angle on fairies. It's has a somewhat dystopian kind of feel. The two main characters comes from two very different worlds. They meet after a very bad scenario. From thereon, the story tell us how they smooth out their differences. I think the main point of this book tells us that trust should be earned and you must choose carefully on whom you give it to. I would be very honest as to say that this would've been better if it was made into a full blown novel. The two main characters have great chemistry (judging from the really short time that they had in the story). The story has a lot of promise if it was continued and expanded. I would read this if it becomes a full blown novel. #pleaseauthorplease :)
All in all, these stories are great. It kept me company for a few days and I enjoyed reading them. Not only did I enjoy their adventure, romance, thrill and full plot, I also enjoyed figuring out lessons behind each story. I recommend this book to the young and young at heart who wants books with meaning. Teens definitely should read this! :) I give this 5 fairy wings!!!

F...moreThis is a book that will make you feel ashamed of assuming a lot of things about people.
Shameless is one book that I'll never forget, I'm sure of it.
First off, it tackles two things. 1. forbidden relationships 2. stripping
That's a double KO if you ask me. The author is so brave as to put these two into one book. Another thing that is amazing about this is that this book doesn't hold back. It goes down until the very last dirty detail. I like this book because it's feisty, revealing and shameless (for the lack of other term)...very much so. Even though it does down to the harsh parts of reality, this book creates a smooth transition. It's classy and tasteful. The author definitely used art in here. The descriptions of things here like photographs, paintings and other literary works are so intricate, I feel like I can totally see what they're seeing.
THE CHARACTERS AND THE STORY
Hannah is... in trouble. Yes, I believe that for the entirety of the book, she's teetering on the edge of trouble. Her job is one and the other is the hot photography professor that she's hopelessly attracted to. I like her because she stands up for what she wants. Never backs down. Really, never. Stubborn 'til the end. It has advantages and disadvantages, but whatever... I like it when it comes to her. She wants to live her life without depending on somebody. She doesn't even want to have a loan for her studies. I think she just had a series of unlucky things. I cried for her near the end because really, a strong girl still needs a rest. You can imagine all her frustrations, fears, insecurities etc all bottled up. I just wanted to give her a break from everything that has been happening.
Emmanuel attracts trouble. Yes, this is what I believe in. With his line of job, you'd think that he has led a straight path. Unfortunately, his back story only says one thing... he's attracted to girls with damsel problems. Well, not exactly your convenient damsels, but the darker damsels. I'm trying not to give out spoilers and I'm finding it hard. hmpf. Anyway, his character is actually pretty easy to figure out. He's the knight-wanna-be. I think from the moment he met Hannah, he wanted to save her. I think that unconsciously, he has formed a plan for him and Hannah. I also think that he really does like Hannah. He's willing to do everything for her. It's very nice and also kind of weird, because again... he's the professor, granted they didn't actually meet that way.
The love part to me is not exactly the focus of the story, so Emmanuel's character was not so strongly described in the entirety of the book (not as strongly as Hannah). Emmanuel is just the typical good guy who becomes attracted to a girl whom he shouldn't have feelings for.
The start of their relationship is pretty messy as you may already have assumed. They argued lots. The middle is swoon worthy and quite good and um.. they still argued a lot. haha! The end part is very PROMISING. It's kind of open ended and I was waiting for more. I wish there's a novella for this so that I can see what happens to them after a year or two. :)
WHAT LEAST LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK
Their back stories. They hid it from each other so fiercely and when they finally say it... it's anticlimactic. That's how it felt like to me instead.
WHAT ONE CAN PICK UP FROM THIS BOOK:
Don't judge. Social standards suck. We always ask why people don't just get on with their own lives, but it still keeps one happening because this is what social standards tell us.
They are still human beings. When you say one bad thing to a person whom you think has an odd job, or a job wherein you think they already are thick faced, remember that they still have hearts, they can still feel and no matter how they act, they can still be hurt by words. It's true that if you don't have anything good to say, just shut up.
Our jobs don't define us. Enough said.
Love really is mysterious. The most unlikely people fall in love with each other everyday, it's not just in books.
Never use your position to belittle, bully or blackmail people. That's just wrong and truly punishable.
Careful with the social media. I think I don't have to elaborate on this anymore.
Don't look down on yourself. It's good to love yourself because that's the first step in gaining the love of everybody else.
All in all.. I definitely recommend this to those people who'd like to try out a different kind of love story. A more realistic one and one that will surely make you re-learn things that you probably already know. :)
5 lovely stars!!! Oh did I mention? THE COVER SIMPLY ROCKS!!!!(less)
This is a very timely story about love and the social media.

Emerson is a hacker. Yes, she's a girl (funny name for a girl eh?) and a hardcore hacker. She's in the middle of finding out what she really wants in life when she suddenly gets a request from this guy Levi, to spy on his online girlfriend. She's the tomboy type of girl, but when Levi butts into her life, she gets the biggest problem ever. Falling for the client who's about to get his heart broken.
Levi is a striving musician. He has dreamed A LOT of the day that he would meet his 4 month-online-girlfriend, Hope Love (gag!). However, she wasn't making it easy for him. All he wants is just a glimpse of the girl he thought he was in love with, but she keeps on prolonging the agony, so he started to have suspicions. He sought the help of a hacker, and that's Emerson. He asks him to find the truth behind Hope Love's identity. Needless to say, what he finds out isn't to his liking...but then again, if it weren't for him coming to Emerson about this, they wouldn't really have met, so it's still a win-win. ^_^
Em and Levi have a pretty good chemistry. They both got the hots for each other. Hope Love is the only one standing in the way and personally, I believe she's not much of a competition to Em. It's pretty predictable actually. Levi finds out that the hard hearted hacker girl he met face to face is better than his beloved girl who lied to him online.
At some point, I questioned the speed of Em and Levi's relationship. I found it to be really fast, but I guess that's fiction to us all.
There's a big moral surrounding this book. These days, people are obsessed with social media. We all can hide who we are behind computers and say whatever we want to say. We can all just pretend to be perfect people with no flaws at all, but what happens if other people take that seriously? These people can waste their time talking to perfectly fake people. In Levi's case, it was four months of his life. Four months may not seem to be a lot to other people, but to some like me, I take that as a big amount of time wasted. This book reminds us that no matter how perfect people present themselves online, no matter how much we think or feel that we already know them because of the frequency of time that we talk to them, reality could still be a lot different, even the opposite so we mustn't really trust so easily or else, we should be ready for a grand fall out.
My only problem-ish in this book is that I want it to be longer. I wanna see what the future holds for the both of them professionally and relationship wise. Hmmm...
Anyway, all in all, this is a pretty good book. I definitely recommend it to all who love romance and to all who love nerds. ^_^

This story is about a girl with a sky high level of pheromones. Prblematic? You could say that. This is her story of trying to break a blessing slash curse. It also became a story of her finding her true love.
I cannot tell you how many times I had to go back to the previous pages before fully understanding what had happened in this story. It involves many creatures and many fairytale characters, so it's confusing as hell. I think I got a whiplash just by trying to place the characters (which fairytale they came from). There were also a few disgusting scenes (yeeesss!!) which don't really belong in fairytales, so they surprised me.
The action parts were pretty good, albeit weird at times.
I think my main problem here stems from the fact that the transitioning from one scene to another is just oh so fast. There were also some things that were introduced, but not really. I know, I know.. I sound confused even to myself. haha!
Anyway, I guess I could also say that I was a bit entertained and that's all there is to it.(less)

I was lured by the cover. I swear. It's enticing and romance readers like me are most likely to pick this up because of it.
The story is all laid out from the start. The girl has an abusive boyfriend and she couldn't get out of the relationship because she afraid that the guy will harm himself. She has so many fears for the guy and her internal monologues pretty much occupied most of this book. Her struggles are timely for women of today. Needless to say, she's the focus of this book.
It's sad to say, but the hero on the other hand, didn't have a lot of participation in this book. Maybe it's just because this book is too short. If this had a hundred more pages, I would've loved the hero. He's a really nice guy. Frankly speaking, I hated the heroine for not saying straight away that she had a boyfriend and that she was being abused etc. She didn't have the courage to be fully honest with him.
Anyway, in the end, I'd like to believe that she has learned her lesson. All in all, this was still an okay read. I'll be reading the next book too. :) (less)

Magic, unicorns, fairies, nymphs, witches and even black widows.. they're all here.
This is a story about Arima, a girl with a past hidden from her. She grew up in an inconspicuous village surrounded by normal people, she even had a best friend. However, all of these changed when she hit the age of 16. She was told about her real identity. As it turns out, she's a very special person in their land... well one of five. She discovers the truth about herself and many things about her legacy... but her village perishes in the process. This brought about many tragedies in her young life.
Arima goes on her adventure of a lifetime. She's bound to have many enemies, but she also gets to meet a lot of friends along the way. I enjoyed going to many places with them. The descriptions of places in this book is very vivid. It's awesome. :)
Arima is a very stubborn, hard headed, ill tempered immature girl. I say that with full conviction. She has the worst trait that a teenage could have. She doesn't listen well to elders and she does things first before thinking about them. I know, I know, a lot of people would say that she's just following her heart... I get that. I totally get that, but it doesn't erase the fact that she's annoying as hell when she does just what SHE WANTS. She's a bad example for teens nowadays. My wish for her character is that she outgrows those bad qualities. There's still hope for her because I think deep down, she's could still be a better person. She could be a smarter person who doesn't make snap decisions and one who thinks a lot first about others' opinion rather than just herself.
Blythe is a vampire who vowed to help Arima because of a certain reason. He's loyal to Arima. I like him, so I was also frustrated A LOT when he was frustrated with Arima. He believes in what Arima can be in the future and that they should take care of that. I like Blyth too because he cares and he's not selfish.
Her unicorn is quite magical, powerful and in my imagination.. she's really beautiful. This story won't be complete without her. She's loyal to Arima to a fault. It's awesome.
The other characters are very, very CRUCIAL TO THIS BOOK. They bad guys are really bad.. I mean, they really do nasty things to people. There are some characters who started out seeming like bad characters, but they are innately good. The other good guys are so nice and accommodating, I can't imagine this book without them. One character in particular, Arima's best friend... I WANT HIM TO BE ALIVE. I really want him to live so that they could pursue a relationship on the next book. heh! ;)
WHAT I FIND CONFUSING
I find the timeline of this book a bit confusing. They seem to be in the medieval ages, but somehow words like "yuck" and "freaking" are in here. Those words, as far as I know came out in the 1960's - 1970's while the medieval times lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. Hmm..
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
✔ The appearance of the other ladies. I want to know what they're like and who they are. ✔ Arima's future love interest. ✔ The next adventures. ✔ New creatures. ✔ More action parts. ✔ Maybe a love life too for Blythe. ✔ Finding out who the woman in black really is. It's so frustrating not to know this tidbit!
ALL IN ALL
I give this book 4 fairy wings. I might not have loved the main character, but I sure loved her adventures as well as the people who helped her! ^_^

The best books are sometimes the hard, nasty, ugly truth written in the guise of fiction.
I totally admit to having a hard time finishing this book, but since a close friend of mine highly recommended it, I fought tooth and nails to soldier on.
We all heard from somewhere that hearing the truth always hurts like a bitch. Now I have my own version. Reading about what can be really happening out there is heartbreaking. This is a triple whammy to me because not only does this book tackle Anorexia, which plagues millions of people across the globe, it also talks about drugs and most of all... ALS. The illness that has been going around from the beginning of time, but has been gaining more and more awareness nowadays thanks to the social media. I have watched a lot of documentaries these past few weeks regarding this illness and have shed a bucket of tears for those people... My awareness for the disease just made me hate the circumstance more. Reading about it in a fiction book, which I consider my turf... my world? Let's just say that it's very, very hard.
I would not go into a lot of details about the characters in this book. I would just say that Austin's loyalty and love for his loved ones is incomparable. He did every single thing in this book out of love. Lexi may also have her imperfections, but she was trying so hard. I can't imagine living with an inner voice like hers.
Lexi and Austin are on my respected list of strong characters. I had my doubts at first because God knows they didn't start with hearts and flowers. More like they started with drugs, threats, lies and bad vibes. They've had waves after waves of misfortunes that you would expect them both to have given up. They did not crumble. They may have stumbled along the way, but they didn't give up. They also have a strong group of friends. I still love Rome. I hated Austin's pride which prevented Rome from helping him.. but I understand. Lexi's friends were always there for her. They just couldn't get past that barrier that she built around herself. When everything.. and I MEAN EVERYTHING fell apart, they were all there to pick up the pieces. The adults in the story are also people who should be real in this world. The doctor, the mom (of Austin) and the dad (of Lexi). If you read this story, you would appreciate their wisdom and strength.
The ending of this book is more than satisfying. Yes, I am all cried out, but I can assure you, I'm friggin happy! :')
Great, meaningful book with a lot of life lessons. A must read!(less)

GROWING UP. --> These are two words that would best describe this sequel.
Matt has definitely grown up. In this book, Matt has physically grown (LOTS). I would also say that he has grown up emotionally. This is because he isn't thinking just about himself anymore. Now he's also thinking of other people. People who have become his responsibility albeit unintentionally. I like how the author showed Matt's teenage mind. You'd see that he's kinda caught in between adulthood and young adulthood. So many responsibilities rest on an almost 16 year old. He can only handle so much. I would say that he handled stress very well though. He's not your typical teen who panics and all that.
MATT AND HIS LOVE LIFE
I saw that coming. I really did. I think he doesn't need ANY DISTRACTIONS either. LOL. Plus, remember when super heroes gets the girl... IN THE END? This isn't the end yet. This is just the beginning so... love just has to wait. Sorry, Matt (not sorry at all hah!).
MATT AND THE FAMILY
I just love his mom's support. That's all I can say without giving away much. Mamie is still always there and by far one of the best sisters in my fiction land. Brent... ugh... jealousy is so unbecoming. I wanted to pull him out of the book and punch him myself when he least suspects it!
MATT AND THE TEAM
I think they rely on Matt more now. They are aware that he's needed in their mission and they respect him for that even if he's just a little (err.. not so little anymore) kid. His uncle is also finding out piece per piece that his nephew is growing up to be a strong hearted young man. Will, on the other hand, has issues of his own. How I wish that he could also just continue to be on Matt's side. I dread the day wherein the author would kill Matt's uncle or Matt's bestfriend. T______T
I CANNOT ASK FOR MORE. It's there. IT'S TOTALLY THERE! Action packed and very, very, very thrilling! Zombies, big insects, demon like creatures! Whew! The author could really come up with badass creatures. O_O
I... am totally speechless. If you read this book, I'm sure you are too. The plot just gets thicker and thicker. I am a firm believer of this author because of the surprises that her books have. I'm only in the second book and I'm already hooked. I can just imagine myself getting to the bottom of this series. I think I am going to have one hell of a series hangover.
ALL IN ALL..
AWESOME, EMOTIONAL, EYE OPENING BOOK! I recommend this book to everyone! (less)
Mindwar is a book that will make you think about that time that you picked up a joy stick, played a game and got lost in it for only a few hours, but felt like forever.
It will make you think of your family.
It will make you think of the friends that you have.
It will also make you think of sacrifices.
The story revolves around our hero, Rick who had a bright future ahead... until it was halted by an accident. He had it all and he just lost it... or so he thought.
He spent his next few months cooped up in a room playing video games. He scores high in every game and this caught the eye of a secret group in the government. As soon as he meets them, he gets briefed. The world is at stake. Would he take the risk and plunge into the unknown or would he let his insecurities and bitterness lead his life?
Of course he chooses to do the right thing... the exciting, exhilarating and thrilling thing. He plunges to the unknown and OH! WHAT A RIDE!
Rick experiences many new things. Things that are just products of our imagination and most definitely couldn't be real, but for a few days, it felt real to him and to me as a reader! This book is all about him discovering new things and realizing that many things are still waiting for him. The possibilities are endless so long as a person has his spirit. :)
The realm that he goes into has all sorts of obstacles for him. It's really like playing a game and trying again each time you fail until you get to the boss fight!
THE FEELING WHILE READING THIS
Excitement. That is just one word that I would say. This book has a good mixture of sci-fi, action and drama. It's really like watching a movie. I also got frustrated with Rick at some point, but he made up for it. :)
SOME THINGS LEFT UNEXPLAINED
I understand that this is the first book in a series, so there are many things that I still don't get. Rick's father's background for example, I want to know more about that. I also want to know about the two bots from the realm. Who are they really? Oh and I also want to know if Rick will choose the human girl over the bot. haha! ;)
ALL IN ALL
This is a good start for a series. It has the right feel that would appeal to gamers and to adventure and sci fi readers. I give this book a four! (less)

Awesome title for an awesome main character! Matt Archer is by far, the most badass fifteen year old boy I've ever met in fiction land.
This book is indeed exciting, exhilarating and very edgy! This is all about a boy who suddenly finds himself in the middle of a worldwide battle against creatures that only existed in movies and in nightmares. Matt was a normal boy with normal insecurities. He had the not-so-normal bully problem at school. He also had the normal loneliness that's to be expected from a kid who was left by his dad and is being taken care of by his mom together with his uncle, whom, incidentally is a guy from the military. His uncle introduces him to a world that anybody else would say never existed.
I found out many things about Matt as he tries to adjust to his new life. Killing monsters while still attending school sure isn't loads of fun. However, he made it seem fun! I think he was having the time of his life. I think what happened to him was some kind of a blessing to him because he learned how to stand up for himself, plus, he bulked up in the process. This eliminates his bully problems at school. However, as his development goes on, the enemy was also getting stronger. He faced many challenges here and oh! What an adventure!!!
The other characters are also quite very active. I personally like Matt's brother and sister. It's my dream to have both, but was just blessed with a sister. Let me tell you this, these siblings are tight. They might not seem very close, but if you read between the lines, you'd see that they are really invested as a family. Maybe it's the silent understanding that since they were all left behind by their dad, might as well be there for each other. I also love the way their uncle treats them. He's the protector and he's their proper father figure. If you ask me, they are oh so lucky to have him in their life.
I just have to say this...
Matt is only 15 and I think his friend is 15 too. This is why I find it odd that they talk like adults. Even from the start, Matt's POV is like an 18 year old's. Maybe this is due to his family life. He's bound to think ahead of his age because he was abandoned. It's just kind of confusing because when he talks about the girl he likes, he acts just the way a fifteen year old should. I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing. I just want to inform you guys in advance before reading this. Expect that Matt talks and acts older. :)
All in all, this is one grand start for a series! I can't believe how late I am in reading this! I recommend this to everyone who loves action, adventure, a hint of drama and love here and there. :) If you've read MONSTER HUNTER by LARRY CORREIA (if you search in our blog, you'd see that we are avid fans of that series), I am quite sure that you will like this too! :) 5 perfect stars!!
