Many wonderful descriptions throughout the book of how life was, although a few phrases/events that the author took for granted at the time of writing were lost on me. The expressions used in the book often reminded of my mother, who grew up on a farm north of London, ON, and the way he painted the landscape conjured up thoughts of the generations that preceded her and cleared the land.(less)

My opinion, however, is that while that may be true, I think Ms. Evanovich built an interesting assortment of characters that allowed me to suspend my disbelief and simply enjoy the story she had crafted. The novel is obviously geared towards women, with the continual references to fashion and hot guys, more so than the later books. Still, I found the characters and plot engaging and well worth the time spent. Ms. Halliday's humour is terrific the situations that Maddie gets into are setup well.(less)
