I actually managed to stay completely away from them, while I waited for the book on my libraries waitlist. Took a few weeks. So I really did not know how it would end and who, well you know.
So some spoilers coming on up.

But I mean really, is it this surprising? I was early on team Bill and then Eric was mighty fine. But in the last couple of books before this one, I think it was very clear that Eric would always put his own ambitions first. I just really didn't feel any love from either of them anymore. It was like everyone was going through the motions and hadn't realized, that the "relationship" was long over with.
Sookie has basically turned into something she didn't recognize anymore. One of these days I want to re-read the first couple of books, just to see how very much changed Sookie is. Its like she was emotionally broken in the last few books. Like her soul was running on empty. It couldn't go on like that. I don't think she had anything left to give. And she was not going to turn. She made that very clear. That would have destroyed her. And for Eric to basically insinuate he would have done so, even knowing she didn't want to, that is a break in trust that just cannot be overcome. So she is trying to reclaim some of her life, some of the simple life she used to have, before she ever met Bill. While her choice at the end might seem upsetting and boring to some, it really makes sense in the big picture. And this is coming from a huge romance reader and romance fan. It just wouldn't have felt real had she agreed to Eric's idea of a future.
So for me this rating is for the overall story. And I found this last book just a tad better than the last two. And for the fact that it was Sookie and her creator that got me started on paranormal and urban fantasy. I hadn't read those until then. So I will always be thankful for that.
I will miss them all, some more than others.(less)
Liked it a bit better than the last 2 books. I think Bellenos is one of my favorite characters. Delish disturbing elf :).

Things actually moved along in this one. Compared to the last one. Still pale against the first few books of the series.
Eric is kind of a drama queen, Sookie's kitchen is a place where very very bady things happen, and I can't figure out how Sookie always has all this fresh food in the house to eat when she is always busy with not dying.
Most of the male characters have been neutered beyond recognition since about a couple of books ago, so that isn't anything new in this installment. Its like most characters are just empty faded shells of themself. Its wierd really.
I am a little sad that I have only one more to go before its done. :). Still on the long library wait list for that one. I am determined to finish this series. If nothing else but as a closure for a series that started out so great and just couldn't keep it going. (less)

More magic stuff I guess. I cant wait to read the next one. (less)

A lot of decisions are made in this one that will have have interesting and painful outcomes. There was a lot of stuff happening here. Glad that the series is getting better as it goes on, rather then the opposite which I find on other series.
Great stuff. Now I am torn. I think there is one more out now and then nothing til next year. So I am torn on if I should wait, or just read up to the point of release. Arggg. (less)

It is so refreshing to have a heroine thathas a real circle of friends outside the other drama.
The continued stories that are unfolding. The new friendships that are being made, new enemies, new alliances. The politics of it all, I just was glued to the pages discovering all the tidbits. There are so many undercurrents flowing through the stories. The constant tug of war between Merit, Ethan and Morgan. And also the shifting of the friendship between Merit and Mallory. I guess things will never be the same.
I really felt for Merit and her struggles.
The world is slowly expanding more and we get to experience it all through Merit's eyes. I get the feeling always that there is more. And I can't wait to read more about the "more".
Yep, got suckered into another great series. :) (less)

I was just going to sneak a little peek and then continue with the book I was reading already. I couldn't stop and finished all the way through. Wow, I loved it. I haven't been quite this hooked since I read the Fever series. And now I have to wait until the next one is ready at my library. The ebooks are too expensive for me.
I am always a bit weary of books and series with hard ass, kick ass looking heroines on the cover. they can get annoying for me very fast and banchee screeching.
But I just fell in love with Merit. The way she deals with this situation, she didn't want or asked for is very classy. She manages with courage, heart and a lot of humor. I just find her so likable. Every character that already is in her life, or then comes into her life brings a little something to the story as it builds. I think I fell in love with all of them.
The wit though is what really got to me. Just loved all the banter. Its a very "grown up" world with vampires and other sups. And there are water nymphs. :).

I almost didn't make it through the beginning of the book with Harry acting like the worst TSTL character. He acts so stupid and then tells us all how stupid it is and then he does it again, and again. And Murphy was getting on my nerves too, with the constant thinking the worst of him. But then seeing how stupid he acts most of the time, I guess I can't blame her lol.
It did thankfully pick up from there and got better. I did like some of the other characters introduced. There was non stop action at some point and even Harry had some good moments sprinkled in between his not so good ones.
Maybe there is hope he will grow some more in following books?
I still have a problem though with the first person. It was especially bad when Harry has to tell us what a chauvinist he is and he likes to treat the ladies like ladies and bla bla. It kind of takes away from the sincerity, if I have to be told by the person how awesome they think they are lol.
But as I like the story lines and the action that is happening in these books, I will continue. There was a glimmer of hope for me at the end that the growth in his and Murphy's character is happening. (less)

He giggles? Yes giggles. I was told that he grows during the series, so I hope that is true or it could get annoying very fast :) Right now he is like a loveable dork.
I also hope the characters are more fleshed out in future books, they seem a bit 2 dimensional at the moment.
But its the first in a series and I am always willing to give a break there, as stuff has to be set up.

The mixture of despair, humor, secrets, death, weirdness just worked for me. And when the crew is together and bickers with each other, its like the 3 stooges :). The stuff coming out of Dani's mouth :)
But why the heck did I start this series without waiting for the rest of the books. I did that with the Fever series so I could read them all. Now I have to wait who knows how long. *whines.
I might have nightmares about the Hag. The images the author is putting in my head are disturbing and brilliant at the same time. That is one heck of a brain to have that kind of imagination and then putting it into words, that then put it into my brain. Wowser. (less)
