Dreams of a Dark Warrior is an emotionally intense novel that will leave you breathless. Cole really outdid herself with this one, it is EPIC people!
A thousand years ago Regin lost the man she planned to spend eternity with; a berserker warlord by the name of Aidan the Fierce. But he vowed to find her again, and he has. (How flippin' romantic is that?!? But you know there is a catch...) Aidan has been reincarnated four times thus far, but with each one comes an even more gruesome death following their first kiss and the return of his memories. This time, Regin is determined to stay far away from Aidan so he doesn’t die again in this reincarnation. But when he turns out to be the evil-immortal-hating Magistrate for The Order, Declan Chase, she must use their curse against him to save herself and her friends being held prisoner.
Declan is a scarred man, inside and out. He survived a brutal attack as a teenager that killed the rest of his family and now he is out for revenge, against the entire immortal race. When he is sent to capture Regin the Radiant he has no qualms about bagging her, until he twists that knife and it makes him physically ill. Once she is in the prison he is reluctantly drawn to her over and over again. Why is it this immortal, this freak of nature, can ease the tension he has felt a lifetime by just being near her? How can she affect him when none other can and when his medicine shouldn’t allow it to? She must have enchanted to him, to lure him to his doom, which is the only explanation for these insane feelings he is having and the impossible stories of reincarnation she is telling. Or maybe he's just going crazy...
It’s an ongoing battle between these two of intense emotions and profound actions. My heart clenched, twisted and somersaulted throughout this entire novel! Seriously, it was like it was on it's own little roller coaster ride. This story went a total different direction then I thought it would from Demon from the Dark, in there Aidan sounded like an unwanted stalker, not Regin’s soul mate. But I absolutely loved where Cole took it! The story line is parallel to Demon from the Dark and Pleasure of a Dark Prince so every now and then it overlaps with Regin's POV.
Dreams of a Dark Warrior is full of torment, passion, revenge, and a HEA that's weaved together piece by piece in amazing detail with characters that were peeled away layer by layer until they seemed as real to you as the neighbor next-door. Regin the Radiant, the loud mouth glowing Valkyrie, hides her emotions behind outrageous humor. I cannot get "rock out with your cocks out" out of my head, I've been saying since finishing this! She absolutely hates having inner dialogues with herself too but finds she’s doing exactly that because of Declan, which only frustrates her more. Her character earns depth & dimension and along the way you get look into her history with side trips into Aidan’s past reincarnations, their relationships and ultimately his demise. There’s a lot of detail but it never looses you or bores and continues at a fast pace throughout. Declan is straight up complicated, he has so many inner struggles and baggage you think ‘just end it for him now, put the poor guy out of his misery’. But Cole comes through for him with some wicked good twists. He never looses that bad-boy, slightly evil, edge - even at the end, and it’s great to see an author stay so true to her characters. And I do love me some bad boys. Num, num. The dialogue between Regin and Declan is witty, spicy and full of tension and if you didn’t love Regin already you will by the end of this book. And you can’t forget about the scorching scenes between them that Cole delivers with a perfect balance between love, lust and sex.
The Lore is gearing up for the Accession and more characters show up that I’m sure we will see more of in future installments. I am so loving Lothaire, the Enemy of Old and Nix’s opposite, it might be the mystery, maybe the perfection or just the total bad-boy package, I don’t know. Yes, more bad-boy lusting but you can never have too much IMO! His novel is up next with plans to be released in January of 2012, so long to wait! But there may be another IAD story in between, fingers crossed.
To sum it up, Dreams of a Dark Warrior is a dark, gritty, sexy and absolutely gripping tale! I seriously need a whole new rating system for this book.

The story continues right where His Darkest Lie leaves off. I was enthralled from the first page when Strider comes strutting through the Budapest Fortress door, cocky as hell, carrying his new prisoner, Haidee – Hunter and killer of Baden, over his shoulder. But Amun soon steals the show, fighting for his life from the demons that he absorbed into his body while in hell. When Haidee, being imprisoned in the room next-door, hears him calling for her help in her head, she first mistakes Amun for her boyfriend Micah, who looks identical, but she’s never felt that spark with him as she does with Amun.
I loved the dialogue between these two. Haidee’s character was the exact opposite then what I was expecting, instead of finding a hard b*tch of a Hunter, we found a brave and sensitive woman who’s life has been Hell and you easily sympathize with her. Her background was interesting and I liked how it tied into the Lords. Amun is fiercely loyal and loving with all of his brothers, protective with Haidee and not to mention damn sexy. He really came to the forefront of the series with this novel, where as before he was kind of regulated to the background. Showalter fleshed out both characters masterfully, with her amazingly adept writing skills that are matched by few. And the scenes between these two got steamy quick!
Non-stop excitement with Amun and Haidee traveling back to Hell to release the demons inside Amun but this couple finds more then their fair share of danger with hellish creatures emerging from the dark and past enemies, one will sacrifice it all for the possibility love. His Darkest Secret is an emotional ride start to finish.
I love smart-ass Strider and we receive a glimpse of what’s to come with him & Kaia’s relationship His Darkest Surender, and all I have to say is those two have their work cut out for them. Whew. Also, there is a part with him, William and Paris that was hilarious and we delved more into Stridey's character on his little vacay as well. We also saw a bit of poor Paris and wow, what a twist. I cannot wait for his novel, The Darkest Seduction.
Just one more hit to add to the best-seller’s bag of Gena Showalter’s fan-friggin-tastic works. This is one author that should be on everyone’s auto-buy lists!
How Gena Showalter works such magic between the pages, I have no idea, but I hope that she never stops! The Lords of the Underworld series just keepsHow Gena Showalter works such magic between the pages, I have no idea, but I hope that she never stops! The Lords of the Underworld series just keeps getting better and better with each installment and The Darkest Surrender is easily one of the best books in the series so far!
The Lords are on the hunt for the last two artifacts that can open Pandora’s Box and destroy them if held in the wrong hangs. Strider, the keeper of the demon Defeat, gave one artifact up for what he thought was safe-keeping, only to be betrayed. Now he is on a mission to make it up to his friends and Win by finding the remaining pieces, but a stubborn harpy keeps getting in his way. Kaia knows that Strider is her consort, her one and only soul mate, but trying to convince Strider of that is proving to be a difficult job. After being rejected by him several times already, Kaia is on the verge of giving up when she is summoned with her sisters to participate in the Harpy Games. A consort’s blood is the only way to heal quickly from these dangerous games; can Kaia get Strider to agree to be her consort at least temporarily? When Strider finds out that first prize is one of the artifacts that they have been searching for he agrees to participate in the Harpy Games with Kaia, but he won’t risk her loosing it and the rod. Planning to take matters into his own hands, Strider bides his time. But when it comes down to it, will he risk everything, even love, to Win?
Gena Showalter tears you from this world and into hers within the first few pages of The Darkest Surrender, giving readers a succulent tale full of action, tension and sizzling romance with a witty and humorous repartee.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED Kaia and Strider together; these two are hands down one of my favorite couples. Kaia was such an easy heroine to get behind; smart, strong, spunky and determined. Though she projects an air of confidence, inside Kaia is really quite insecure, believing that she is a disappointment to everyone she cares about. I enjoyed the witty banter between her, Strider and Kaia’s family and the Harpy’s shenanigans was down-right hilarious. Strider, well he was just sexy as all get out! Even though I don’t usually go for the blond heroes, I knew several books ago from his attitude that I would love Strider and I’ve been itching for Gena to hurry up and get to him. LoL His character was scintillating and sarcastic, and I died (in a good way) over his ‘ego checks’ as well as his references to Stridey Monster, OMG! *fans self* Strider is Kaia’s consort which he doesn’t fully understand at first. He’s attracted to the feisty little Harpy, no doubt, but believes Kaia will continuously challenge him and his demon causing him to lose and end up in unbearable pain which just isn’t going to happen. Despite that however, Strider risks himself to help Kaia out, shows her her worth while protecting his friends as the same time. He is strong, loyal and pure alpha male. *growl* Him and Kaia are a perfect fit and I couldn’t be happier with the way Gena wrote them together, absolute perfection!
William, Kane and Paris show up, adding excitement to the numerous subplots and expanding the LOTU world. Gena gives readers several peeks into Kane’s head (who carries the demon of Disaster) and I am very much intrigued. Paris has had a difficult time these past few novels and my heart wrenches for his current circumstances but Gena is setting it up nicely for his book next (The Darkest Seduction 02/21/2012). Which will also carry over a suspenseful cliffhanger with Kane and William stranded in Hell and the end of the world hanging in the balance; talk about your nail-biter!
Another amazingly awesome addition to the Lords of the Underworld series and an awe-inspiring bookish delight to Gena Showalter’s long list of fantastic reads! ...more
