I've read some amazing Beauty and the Beast stories like Beauty and Rose Daughter both by Robin McKinley. I had heard that Cruel Beauty was a unique spin on this classic tale so I knew I had to give it a shot. Well, I read Cruel Beauty in literally one sitting. Like, I stayed up until my eyes hurt and I knew work was going to be seriously rough the next day. The lack of sleep was so worth it though because the story of Nyx and Ignifex was captivating. This wasn't a step by step retelling and I loved it for that. I couldn't predict what was going to happen next because the story was so refreshing. I was sorry to see the end of Cruel Beauty but I'm excited for Gilded Ashes on April 1st which is set in the same world....more

I am going to be completely honest and say that I have been avoiding this series for the last year. Yes, these books have gotten amazing reviews but like I stated in Tuesday's post I sometimes want to shy away from those books that are in the spotlight just because EVERYONE has read them. It wasn't until Book Rock Betty raved about the third book in the series, Crash Into You that I thought maybe it was time to give these books a chance.
OMG! I AM AN IDIOT! Why why why did I wait so long to read this series?! I consider myself pretty sensible and I fall for the nerdy book boys most of the time. I have never ever been attracted to scarred, broken men with tattoos in real life or in books. However, McGarry made me fall hard for Noah. I also enjoyed the mystery that surrounded Echo's scars and found it interesting to piece together all the little clues until I was hit full force with the true story. All the tension between Noah and Echo was pretty steamy and I liked how it all played out. Definitely hoping to see more of them in the rest of the series.
Immediately after finishing Pushing the Limits I started reading Dare You To which I thankfully had the sense to already request from the library. I'll post my review for that one soon. Now, I'm anxiously awaiting Isaiah's story in Crash Into You which won't be out until November. If someone wants to send me an early copy I would be forever grateful. I am anticipating the hot guys, muscle cars...and hopefully previously mentioned hot guys repairing engines shirtless. Gotta love a grease monkey, especially if he looks like Isaiah. ...more

I finished reading Burn for Burn last fall and was left with a major cliffhanger. I was just getting to know Kat, Mary, and Lillia and then Bam! End of story! So when I saw Burn for Burn on Eidelweiss for review I did not hesitate to request it. Thanks so much to Eidelweiss for approving my request so I could continue with this fantastic series!
As with any book in a series it took me a few chapters to remember where Burn for Burn left off. I was surprised by the beginning of the novel because the result was not what I had been expecting. I'm trying my best not to spoil things here so sorry if I sound cryptic. Just read this series and trust me if you want more specifics. Lillia, Kat and Mary continue with their revenge plan which gets even more complex and I think I loved it more than in the first book. I thought I knew everything about the three girls but by the end of Fire with Fire I felt like I knew them even better. The ending just...I'm still thinking about it and was left super confused. I don't even know what to think anymore but I love how crazy things are now. The last few pages completely floored me and if you've read this and want to discuss then feel free to contact me. You know what I'm talking about when I say I never saw that coming.
If someone wants to smuggle me a copy of Ashes to Ashes I will be your friend forever. I have no idea how this series is going to end but I'm excited to find out. I would highly recommend you pick up these books if you want a story that just keeps you guessing and has you turning pages late at night. Someone please explain what happened to you-know-who! I cannot wrap my head around this ending!...more

I'll be honest, I'm not normally a huge fan of contemporary books unless the subject of the story really interests me. More likely I'll gravitate towards a historical or romance novel before picking up something more modern. Golden has been getting great reviews all summer but I didn't love Kirby's debut, Moonglass so I just wasn't sure. I kept putting it off until Book BFFs chose it as their July read. Luckily my library had it so I picked it up just a few days before I found out I was flying out for a job interview. I read a few chapters and then got busy packing. Brought it along for the plane ride and was instantly immersed. Maybe I'm weird, but lately I find it much easier to read when I have nothing else to do. Being stuck on a plane for 2 hours definitely helped me get out of my reading slump.
I finished Golden on my returning flight and now I can say that I loved it and have already started reading more contemporary. I liked how the book flipped between the story and the pages of Julianna's journal. I'm always a fan of a good mystery so I think that was what really drew me into the story. I felt more connected to that part than what was going on with Parker, honestly. I liked Parker but I always wanted to find out more about Julianna and Shane as I kept reading. Final point, I loved that this was a standalone. Too many books are series lately and it is making me crazy. Case in point, recently discovered The 5th Wave is a trilogy and now I'm having trouble finishing it because I'm terrified to commit to another series.
I have a copy of Kirby's second book, In Honor on my shelf that I haven't gotten around to reading. After finishing Golden, I think it deserves a chance. I've heard great things about it from other bloggers and I'm in the mood for another military themed book after reading Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry....more

I have read everything by Leila Sales and Past Perfect is one of my all-time favorites. I knew This Song Will Save Your Life would not disappoint. Thanks so much to my friend Liz for allowing me to borrow her ARC of this so I could read it. I actually ended up reading both the paperback copy and an e-copy from NetGalley for review. I was so happy to have both copies because I didn't pack the ARC when I flew to Montana earlier this summer for a job interview. Luckily I had it on my iPad and could pick up where I left off in the paperback. I didn't get the job but flying definitely helped me get back into the reading groove so I'm thankful for that. I finished this on my flight back to Dayton and it was amazing!
Thoughts I will never stop raving about Leila Sales EVER! Her writing is so incredible and I have loved all of her characters. Learning about the DJing world through Elise's insomnia was perfect and I enjoyed the cast of characters she met during her adventures. Char and Elise's relationship was complicated and I loved every second of it. This book was so real and heartbreaking at times but that's what made it so perfect. Plus, it's a standalone so everything was nicely wrapped up at the end and I was content. I cannot wait to get my own copy at the Fierce Reads tour stop in Dayton in a few weeks!
Future Plans Obviously I am going to keep reading anything Leila Sales writes. Everyone should read her books and definitely go to one of the tour stops if you can. Go buy all her books and then get them signed so you can treasure them forever and ever. At least that's what I plan on doing. I can't find any information about her next book but hopefully she will mention it during the tour....more

Shiloh and herIn Moonlight Mayhem Shiloh and Trent are no longer a couple and are struggling with the aftermath of the events in Beautifully Broken. Shiloh and her friend Ari find themselves in the middle of another paranormal mystery after some of the high school football players are attacked. With the help of Evans, werewolf creatures called lycans are determined to be the culprit. Shiloh's initial interest in the attacks are intensified once her father becomes one of the victims. Now, Shiloh is out for revenge against her father's killer and needs Trent's help in order to stop the attacks around town.
During the beginning, I was disappointed by the lack of romance between Shiloh and Trent but that quickly turned around once Trent was enlisted by Evans to train Shiloh to fight. I knew they wouldn't be able to stay away from each other for long! Fighting lead to some hot kissing scenes but then took a turn for the worst once Shiloh realized something was seriously wrong with Trent. I'm curious to see how Trent's new powers will evolve in the next book.
I haven't read many books about werewolves but I loved how they were portrayed in this novel. There was such a great mystery all throughout the book and it kept me guessing until the very end. Some new characters were introduced as well so I'm looking forward to learning more about them in the future. This series just keeps getting better with each book and I love that Shiloh is such a strong character.
