It feels like a setup for a series since the ending is unresolved regarding the evil stalking them. I'm definitely passing on the next book.(less)

Angela Knight's Blood and Roses was an interesting vampire story. (3 stars)
There's something about Virginia Kantra's writing style that doesn't resonate with me but her story Shifting Seas about a selkie and a wounded war veteran was sweet. (2 stars)
Meljean Brook's Here There Be Monsters was a nice intro to her new series. (3 stars)(less)

I didn't connect with the heroine, didn't feel the chemistry between the hero and heroine, and was just bored by the story. It's an interesting premise but I guess it just wasn't for me. (less)

I liked the interaction of the hero and heroine and the growth of their relationship from friends to lovers but the dreaded evil that they sought to defeat bogged down the last half of the story. The big bad they confronted at the end just left me confused. (less)

The Haidee and Strider thing was a little distracting and seemed a bit forced, but maybe I was missing something since I think I skipped/skimmed the previous book.
It was sweet and heartbreaking reading about how Amun and Haidee are connected and the losses they have experienced that make them who they are today. Awesome ending. Definitely a tear jerker.
Strider's story should be interesting. His heroine is going to make him work for his win. Can't wait to see how Paris and William reach their HEA also.(less)

And the build up to the possible danger the hero and heroine may face rescuing her niece ended with a whimper. I was expecting a bit more danger and action then what occurred. Maybe it had to do with how short this story was.
I did like the hero and heroine. And it's not often you read about a heroine who is a medusa.(less)

I enjoyed the flashbacks Declan had of his previous lives with Regin. The pacing of the story seemed much smoother than Lucia's story and improved from Carrow's story.
Some of the plot lines were predictable but still enjoyable. Lots of unanswered questions though; not sure what to think of Nix and Lothaire or the Order. (less)

However, when the action starts you can't read fast enough in your need to discover what happens.
This new series does stand on it's own from Ione's Demonica series, but characters from the Demonica series do make an appearance. Reading the Demonica series may help with understanding the world the story is set in and the background of the characters that appear. Ione does a good job of introducing new readers to the demon world she has built (as well as reminding those already familiar with Demonica) what happened previously in the Demonica series that affect this new series and the characters involved. I definitely recommend referencing the provided glossary before starting the book.
The ending was a little anti-climatic for me, but I did like how Ione resolved the issue with Cara and the agimortus. I'm looking forward to seeing how the other Horsemen are dealt with.(less)
