Nathan and Katenia have immediate sexual chemistry, but it’s their antics trying to understand their strange situation and each other that grabbed my interest, and my funny bone. Nathan’s human. Katenia is a fairy he encounters when his aunt sends him a strange potted flower, which happens to be Katenia’s home. When tiny Katenia suddenly becomes “human,” Nathan determines to help her regain her fairy wings so she can return to her family. Except that he’s inexplicably drawn to her and deep in his soul, he doesn’t want her to leave. Then, he learns that in her home world, Katenia will be forced to marry a cruel fairy or face banishment. Now, Nathan will do anything it takes to keep his fairy princess from either of those horrible fates.
Katenia isn’t the only one facing a precarious future. Turns out, Nathan’s former fiancé, Rhiannon, is an evil witch who cursed him when he called off their wedding. A curse in which no one he loves will ever live long enough to love him back.
And this is where the story began to unravel a little, for me. News of the curse comes in the last quarter of the story. There wasn’t a hint of it earlier so the reveal that Rhiannon was a witch and that Nathan was living with a terrible curse seemed like a forced plot point. I also didn’t find the dynamics between Nathan and his aunt and uncle were fully developed so their actions felt contrived. As did Nathan’s rage and anger which when mentioned seemed disproportionate to what was happening in the story most of the time and there wasn’t an adequate explanation as to why he had this particular character trait, nor was it satisfactorily resolved in the end—for me. This darkness within him did help him to defeat Rhiannon but seemed incongruent with the buoyancy and vibrancy of the set-up.
Still, I found EVER MINE an imaginative and entertaining short read. This is an erotic novella, so there is sex, sex, and more sex—tastefully written to explore the emotions of the character’s during the act rather than a play by play of the act itself. I thought it sweet that both characters had a goal of protecting each other, and a willingness to sacrifice themselves in order to do so.
If you like fantastical, modern-day fairy tales and are looking for something quick to read on your lunch break, or sitting in a waiting room, this could be the novella for you. Smart Girls Love Sci Fi rating: 3.5...more

Isabella and Justin have been friends forever. Closer than friends, actually. More like brother and sister. Only Isabella has harbored a wicked little secret for years and this Christmas she’s going share it with Justin.
Isabella Andreu is coming home for the holidays. Her boyfriend of two years has just broken off their engagement and now there is nothing to prevent her from finally coming to terms with her undying infatuation for Justin, her childhood friend. That is, if she can actually make it home.
Justin Rourke can’t help but to drop everything when it comes to Isabella. He’s been rescuing her from mishaps all of her life. Fetching her from the side of the road in the middle of a blizzard is par for the course. With the streets to her mother’s house closed due to snow, he has no choice but to bring Izzie home with him.
The only problem is that Izzie isn’t the little girl he’s always considered a sister. She’s all grown up and filled out in the all the enticing places, inspiring dirty thoughts that are utterly unbrotherly.
Snowed in and housebound, Izzie decides to shake up things with Justin. A game of strip Scrabble is all it takes to break her out of the sister mold and land her right into Justin’s bed. Then comes the news… Justin’s SEALs unit is being activated in thirteen days. Izzie knows his missions are long and dangerous and she plans to fulfill Justin’s every fantasy before he ships out…if she can convince him to play along.
I knew from the first three paragraphs that this was going to be a fun read.
“Isabella was in mourning—that deep, soulful kind where people fall to the ground wailing as if they are possessed. Her fiancé of two years had just broken up with her over the phone, the same phone that had died right after her sleek silver Aston Martin Vanquish had gone kaput on the side of the road.
Yes, she was in mourning—mostly for her shoes. Where was she ever going to find another pair of white kid-leather knee-high boots that fit her legs perfectly? Her favorite Jimmy Choos would be ruined if they got any wetter, and she’d worn them only twice.
Maybe if she sent up a prayer, God would save her boots right after he saved her from the worst blizzard to hit her small hometown of Jacksonville, Virginia, in more than ten years. She mumbled something that was as close to a prayer as a wicked Catholic girl was ever going to get, and trudged ahead.”
Isabella is a smart, sexy woman with a sense of humor and a great deal of common sense. She might have taken a detour or two in her life, but she’s determined to get back on track. When she decides she wants something, she doesn’t let anything get in her way.
Justin is equally compelling, struggling with his sense of honor, his changing perception of Isabella and his doubt that she could ever love him that way he wants her to.
Both have strong personalities. Their banter in and out of the bedroom is delightful to watch as each tries to best the other.
At Izzie’s insistence, Justin introduces her BDSM. She’s open to trying anything with Justin because she trusts him. But it’s clear that Izzie isn’t a true submissive. The play-struggle for dominance in the bedroom is entertaining and I was happy that Izzie came out on top, at least part of the time.
This type of sexual relationship works for them because of their shared history. They are deeply connected to each other and that connection extends beyond their bedroom escapades. The conflict for them lies in their inability to confess their love for fear of the other’s rejection. Each thinks the other is only in it for the fun. And what fun they have!
Twelve Wicked Nights is definitely Justin and Isabella’s journey; however there is a sub-plot with a brewing relationship between Justin’s best (guy) friend, Caleb, and Isabella’s best (girl) friend, Celeste. I found this secondary story to be a little distracting, especially because it delves into their sexual activity which took me away from Justin and Isabella’s story. Caleb and Celeste do play a pivotal role in getting Justin and Izzie to open up to each other. And how these best friends conspire to accomplish that is a hoot.
Twelve Wicked Nights is the first book I’ve read by Nadia Adian (love the anagram of the name). I enjoyed the straight-forward writing style, the clever humor, and the depth of the main characters.
If you’re looking to liven up your Christmas, Twelve Wicked Nights, might be just the spice you’re looking for. ...more

I enjoyed the interactions between the characters and the first book is a good set-up for the series. I did have problems with the plausibility. For instance, the heroine's ex-boyfriend is wanted by the FBI for murder, unbeknownst to her. But, he's working at a bank using an alias. As a former bank employee, I know that it is the general policy that all bank employees be fingerprinted and undergo an extensive background check before hiring. So, I found this scenario unlikely especially since the sheriff was able to uncover the ex-boyfriend's criminal history by running his own background check. Other than that, I liked the cast of characters. The love scenes were hot, and the developing relationship between the heroine and hero was touching.Belonging to Them ~kristal lee...more

When Rori Simon returns to her hometown she’s not the shy, frumpy girl that all the boys overlooked in school. She’s a smart, sassy, sexy woman whose put the pain of her childhood behind her and moved on with her life. For the most part, that is. Rori's always been in love with Jude Callahan and now that she’s home Rori hopes to turn his head and win his heart for good.
Devastatingly handsome, Jude Callahan has never been interested in love. A good time, yes. A relationship, hell no. When he reconnects with Rori, his childhood gal pal, Jude begins wondering what he’s missing in not having an exclusive with one special woman. But Jude is afraid to give into his feelings and surrender his heart. He just isn’t ready for that kind of commitment. In a moment of claustrophobic fear, Jude pushes Rori out of his life and into the wake of Zach Helm.
Zach immediately recognizes Rori as a kindred spirit. He’s finally found a woman he can love and trust with his sexual dominance. He doesn’t hesitate to show Rori how much he wants and needs her. Rori, believing that Jude will never change, accepts Zach for who he is and all he has to offer.
Too late, Jude realizes his loss as he watches the only woman he can imagine a future with falling in love with another man. He can’t bear to lose Rori completely, so he faces his mistake and endeavors to be the best friend he can be to Rori and Zach.
Lauren Dane’s Second Chances is a heart-clenching erotic romance. I never expected to be so moved by a BDSM love-triangle story. The characters are true to life and believable enough to be your friends, family, or the next door neighbors.
I loved watching Rori and Zach fall in love, moment by moment. And, despite his initial jerkish behavior, I felt sorry for Jude because he was presented in such an honest fashion that his motivations and inner demons were understandable and relatable.
The small town setting reminded me of my hometown. Quaint, gossipy, at times stifling, but always a place where family was family and that’s all that mattered. It was beautiful to see how the families rallied together when tragedy struck. Readers that have disjointed family connections may be a little cynical at the lengths Rori’s family and friends go to for her, but coming from a close-knit southern family I found their actions to be spot on.
Since Second Chances is an erotic romance, steamy, hard-core sex is a high expectation. Ms. Dane doesn’t disappoint. I found the love scenes fabulous and tastefully written. Considering that this was the first BDSM book that I’ve read, I appreciated that Rori was an unschooled submissive and that as she learned about this lifestyle, so did I.
My only tweak is that I wish Rori and Jude’s relationship would have been developed as fully and richly as Rori and Evan’s. The last chapters seemed a tad rushed with more telling rather than showing so I didn’t connect as fiercely with Jude as I did with Evan.
I noticed in the acknowledgments that this edition of Second Chances is a revision of an earlier publication. Because of how much I loved this story, I’m hoping that one day Ms. Dane will consider another such revision and provide a longer, more in-depth detailing of Rori and Jude’s second chance. ...more
