Ryan isn’t a Reed but he works in their tattoo shop. He is deaf and has never dated a hearing woman until Lark. I found it interesting that he held a prejudice of sorts about hearing people. Though, that notion is quickly banished by his fondness for and desire for Lark.
I really liked the heroine Lark. She’s funny, sweet and charming, yet hides a deep pain and vulnerability. Ryan is the one that helps to push Lark past the shields she’s been wielding for years; first with a pair of tattoos and then with his love. I loved Ryan and Lark together. Their interactions are amusing, sexy and endearing. I wanted more time with them. The story and the romance quick due to the length of the book, I felt it was too quick. I would have loved to have read their story over the course of a full length novel. This one just didn’t do them justice.
Overall, I quite liked Holding Her Hand. It held my attention from the very first page. I just wanted it to be longer.
I would recommend Holding Her Hand to fans of the Reed series.

Mated with the Cyborg is the 2nd book in the Cy-Ops series but Cara Bristol. This can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. I haven’t read the first book but I had no problems following along. For me, Mated with the Cyborg was just an okay read. It kept losing my interest and I was glad when it was over. The story just never grabbed my attention.
Mated with the Cyborg is centered around an enemy race called the Lamis-Odg. Not a pleasant group of beings, to say the least. The hero, Kai, is a cyborg sent in the infiltrate the inner circle of the Lamis-Odg. Unfortunately he doesn’t get very far in his quest before he has to make of choice of saving the heroine Mariska, or proceeding with his mission.
This sci-fi romance is evenly paced with romance, action and danger.

Her Fierce Warrior by Paige Tyler is the 4th book in her X-Ops series. The heroine Minka has recently escaped captivity after spending weeks if not months being experimented on and tortured. But even after getting away from her jailors she finds herself hunted by a different sort of predator, but this time she won’t allow herself to be at their mercy, for she now has a beast inside of her that breaks out in a furious rage when she is threatened.
It is during an enraged response that Minka meets Angelo and discovers that his presence can calm her beast when control is lost. Finding peace for the first time in months, Minka clasps onto Angelo and doesn’t want to let go. Angelo quickly discovers a soft spot for the beautiful Minka and doesn’t hesitate to stand as her protector as she navigates the new world she finds herself thrust into.
I enjoyed Her Fierce Warrior. The beginning is my favorite part, the middle and end just didn’t have as much of an impact, though it was still good. Angelo was a great hero and Minka was a good fit for him. I felt Minka recovered from her captivity amazingly well, perhaps too well to be realistic. It didn’t seem to even be an issue aside for the physical changes. But, that wasn’t the point of the story.
Her Fierce Warrior is an entertaining and fast paced read. The story continues an overall plot, laid out in previous books and leaves plenty of threads for future stories. There’s danger, a bit of intrigue, romance and action. I liked it and would recommend it to fans of the series.

This one runs concurrent to events in the first book then moves forward more in the end. It follows Tye, whom we met in the first book, Waking Up Dead. I loved Tye, he’s a survivor and a fighter but he’s also endearingly sweet and wonderfully loyal. I really liked Polly as well. She’s the polar opposite of the previous heroine, Jackson. Super smart, but not a fighter, she’s cleverly found a way to survive in this new and horrific world.
I loved Tye and Polly together. Their romance is slow and tentative but heartfelt. Their journey isn’t without some extreme obstacles and I found myself practically chewing my nails at one point. There is action and gruesome gore but it is balanced by the emotion that emanates from the pages.
Waking Up Alive makes us look beyond the Zombies to the humanity that was and is possibly still cognizant in some way within the creatures they’ve become. In Waking Up Dead they were the monsters that needed to be slayed. In this book we look beyond that to the possible hope of a cure and it makes you reevaluate your perception of the Zombies, or Wakers as they’re called by Polly.
Overall, I really enjoyed Waking Up Alive. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I would recommend it to fans of the first book and those that don’t mind a heavy dose of blood, pus and other things that make you go ew!

It continues the trend with an entertaining story and characters that stand out from one another. I liked Dakota and Trixie together. Dakota was charming and sexy and worked hard to gain Trixie’s trust. Trixie was spunky and tough with a deeply vulnerable side that she does her best to keep hidden. I appreciated, that their romance wasn’t an instant love story. They first met 2 years prior and while drawn to each other they kept their distance and had no idea they were bloodmates.
In this story, a widely believed extinct supernatural species emerges from the shadows, sparking dangerous events and unearthing a centuries old mystery. Trixie and Dakota find themselves working together while trying to navigate their new and tentative bond. Dakota is ready to throw all in but Trixie takes some convincing as her fear holds her back.
I really enjoyed this new installment in the Dead in the City series. It’s fast paced, romantic, exciting and sexy. We get to revisit past characters, meet new ones, and learn a bit more about a couple secondary characters. I’m quite curious to see whose story will be next.
I would recommend The Good, The Bad and the Vampires to fans of the series and fans of paranormal romance.

Shadows Strike by Dianne Duvall is the 6th book in her Immortal Guardians series. I love this series so I was really looking forward to this one and iShadows Strike by Dianne Duvall is the 6th book in her Immortal Guardians series. I love this series so I was really looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a wonderful mix of engaging romance and action-packed excitement.
In Shadows Strike, the battle with the powerful and elusive Other, Gershom, gets even more expansive and potentially apocalyptic. The action reaches a grand scale with multiple battles against large forces of enemies. The action scenes are well written and vividly portrayed. The danger and tension emanates from the pages. This was a story that once I got started, I didn’t want to put it down.
But don’t worry, it’s not all action. There are plenty of moments where you can sit back and take a breath. The romance between Heather and Ethan is well developed and unfolds nicely within the story. It’s straightforward, sexy and sweet. A nice complement to the fast paced and in depth plot.
Ethan is a century old Immortal Guardian. He’s been feeling isolated and lonely and is headed to David’s, where the Immortal Guardians tend to congregate, when he stops to fight a group of vampires. It’s during this fight that he comes across Heather and she ends up helping him defeat the vampires. Heather meanwhile, has been dreaming of the vampire attack and Ethan every night for the last year. So when it actually happens, she has a hard time believing it’s real. This made for a rather amusing meeting and thus begins their romance.
Heather and Ethan were both decent and caring characters that you couldn’t help but like. Their interactions are interspersed with humor and heartfelt moments. I admit I was a little worried that Ethan would still be hung up on Lisette but that wasn’t the case. I never had any doubt in my mind that Heather was the one for him and that he wouldn’t trade her for anyone or anything. He still cares for Lisette but only as a friend.
I really enjoyed Shadows Strike. It’s an interesting and completely engrossing story that will have you smiling one moment and biting your nails the next. I look forward to the next book as I’m anxious to read more of the ongoing storyline. I’m hoping for Aidan’s story next, the ancient and lonely Celt who yearns and searches for a Gifted One of his own.
I highly recommend Shadows Strike and the Immortal Guardians series to fans of paranormal romance.
*The Immortal Guardians series contains ongoing plotlines so I recommend reading it in order.
