I love this series so I was really looking forward to this one and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a wonderful mix of engaging romance and action-packed excitement.
In Shadows Strike, the battle with the powerful and elusive Other, Gershom, gets even more expansive and potentially apocalyptic. The action reaches a grand scale with multiple battles against large forces of enemies. The action scenes are well written and vividly portrayed. The danger and tension emanates from the pages. This was a story that once I got started, I didn’t want to put it down.
But don’t worry, it’s not all action. There are plenty of moments where you can sit back and take a breath. The romance between Heather and Ethan is well developed and unfolds nicely within the story. It’s straightforward, sexy and sweet. A nice complement to the fast paced and in depth plot.
Ethan is a century old Immortal Guardian. He’s been feeling isolated and lonely and is headed to David’s, where the Immortal Guardians tend to congregate, when he stops to fight a group of vampires. It’s during this fight that he comes across Heather and she ends up helping him defeat the vampires. Heather meanwhile, has been dreaming of the vampire attack and Ethan every night for the last year. So when it actually happens, she has a hard time believing it’s real. This made for a rather amusing meeting and thus begins their romance.
Heather and Ethan were both decent and caring characters that you couldn’t help but like. Their interactions are interspersed with humor and heartfelt moments. I admit I was a little worried that Ethan would still be hung up on Lisette but that wasn’t the case. I never had any doubt in my mind that Heather was the one for him and that he wouldn’t trade her for anyone or anything. He still cares for Lisette but only as a friend.
I really enjoyed Shadows Strike. It’s an interesting and completely engrossing story that will have you smiling one moment and biting your nails the next. I look forward to the next book as I’m anxious to read more of the ongoing storyline. I’m hoping for Aidan’s story next, the ancient and lonely Celt who yearns and searches for a Gifted One of his own.
I highly recommend Shadows Strike and the Immortal Guardians series to fans of paranormal romance.
*The Immortal Guardians series contains ongoing plotlines so I recommend reading it in order.

The Terrans is a fantastic start to the First Salik War series by Jean Johnson. This new series is set in the same world asGreat story and characters!
The Terrans is a fantastic start to the First Salik War series by Jean Johnson. This new series is set in the same world as the “Theirs Not to Reason Why” series but takes place 200 years earlier. It is not necessary to read that series prior to this one. I didn’t and had no problems following along.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Terrans. In fact, I found the story and characters so absorbing that I stayed up most of the night finishing it, without even realizing the passage of time. You know it’s a good story when you lose sleep and don’t particularly care.
The main protagonist of the story is Jacaranda (Jackie) MacKenzie. I really liked Jackie. She’s a powerful psychic and a strong leader. I liked how she used her leadership in an honorable and empathic way. She has a strong, assertive personality that suits her role perfectly.
The other prominent character in this story is Li’eth. I liked him as well and enjoyed learning about him and seeing his character growth. I won’t go into any more detail as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. This story is best enjoyed without knowing the plot beforehand.
The Terrans is an expertly crafted and complex beginning to a what, I believe, will be a very compelling series. The characters are multifaceted and original. The plot is interesting and smoothly paced. There is action, adventure and a hint of romance. My only complaint is that I could have done with a little less information in a couple spots but it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the story.
I’m happy to say that The Terrans has a satisfying ending but leaves you anxious for more. Though the overall story is far from complete but it doesn't end in a cliffhanger. I look forward to reading the second book, due out in 2016, as I’m eager to find out how the next events will play out.
I highly recommend The Terrans to fans of Science Fiction.

Hot Point by M.L. Buchman is the 4th book in the Firehawks series. It is a wonderful mix of pulse pounding excitement, sweet hearted romance, engaging story and sarcastic humor. The characters are multidimensional and likeable. Care and time is given developing the romance in a way that is utterly endearing and completely believable.
I loved Vern and Denise together. They are both unique and exceptionally talented in their vocation. Denise, the head mechanic at MHA, is brilliant minded and has gained the nickname stainless steel for her somewhat standoffish manner around others. Her last relationship damaged her self-worth and it is Vern that helps her overcome her insecurities.
Vern is a wonderful Hero. He’s likeable, charming and honorable. A Firehawk pilot for MHA, he invites Denise to dinner and is surprised when she accepts. He desired her but always thought she was way out of his league. At the same time Denise is surprised when he shows an interest in her. It was fun to read along as these two characters fell in love.
From battling wildfires to romantic escapes, Hot Point will keep on the edge of your seat and thoroughly entertained. I look forward to more by this author.
I highly recommend Hot Point and the Firehawks series to fans of romantic suspense.

Soul Scorched by Donna Grant is the 6th book in the Dark Kings series. This one focuses on Darcy, the druid that helped Ulrik get back some of his powers and Warrick, one of the Dragon Kings. Warrick is a loner, preferring to keep his own company whenever possible. He doesn’t hate humans like many of his brethren but harbors a secret fascination with them.
Warrick, along with another Dragon King, Thorn, are tasked with finding out what Darcy knows and with keeping her safe from the Dark Fae. When Warrick spends some time with Darcy he is surprised to discover he likes being with her and isn’t eager to leave her company, which he normally is when around others. He was drawn to her from the first moment he saw her and finds himself wanting her more with every second he spends with her. Darcy is immediately drawn to Warrick as well. She meets him in the flesh, literally, after he saves her from a Dark Fae attack. Their romance develops while battling danger from all sides. The line between the good guys and the bad gets precariously thin and Darcy must decide who she can trust.
I have to say that, though I liked both Warrick and Darcy, I didn’t find them or their romance particularly compelling. I was more interested in Rhi and what was going on with her. She’s struggling with the aftermath of her imprisonment and torture, along with her heartbreaking love for the mysterious Dragon King who forsook her. She finds her convictions teetering and her path is unclear. She’s my favorite character and has been from the beginning so I’m anxious to find out what happens next with her storyline.
Con also gained my attention, it seems the more I read about him, the less I like him. I think he has made some grave mistakes in lifetime. He’s driven by his hatred towards Ulrik and it blinds him. In many ways I find him culpable for the man that Ulrik is today.
Speaking of Ulrik, he’s a very intriguing character whom I found myself sympathizing with to some degree. He has done many evil things yet at times he seems, redeemable. I’m really curious to discover how the story will play out for these characters.
I enjoyed Soul Scorched. The secondary storylines in particular captured my attention and left me curious for more. I look forward to the next book, Passion Ignites, which will be Thorn’s story.
I strongly recommend that the Dark Kings series be read in order as it has several ongoing storylines.

Tough Love by Lori Foster is the 3rd book in the Ultimate series. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book in this MMA series and this4.5 Stars - Loved it!
Tough Love by Lori Foster is the 3rd book in the Ultimate series. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book in this MMA series and this one is no exception. Tough Love focuses on Stack and Vanity. I have been looking forward to their story since the tension ramped up between them in the last book. In Tough Love we see that tension come to fruition.
Vanity propositioned Stack in, Holding Strong, getting his attention and his agreement to be her date to Cannon & Yvette’s wedding, with the promise of no strings sex afterwards. This is all a ploy on her part to get him interested in her since she’s wanted him from the moment she met him and not just for sex, she has happily ever after in mind.
Tough Love starts off with a sizzle and captured my heart from the very first page. I loved Stack and Vanity together. Their romance was a perfect combination of sexy, endearing and sweet. This one takes a step back from the MMA scene and focuses more on family and personal connections with a touch of danger mixed in.
Vanity is a character who on the surface has it all but what she truly longs for is love, acceptance and family. She’s a wonderful heroine who’s not afraid to go after what she wants with everything in her arsenal. I really liked her and admired her determination. She’s warmhearted, independent and strong. Stack didn’t stand a chance once she set her sights on him. Not that he really wanted to resist.
Stack is a great hero, one that endeared me from the very first page. He’s an Alpha male that manages to be sweet, protective and endearing. Vanity snuck up under his defenses and burrowed her way into his heart as he did to hers. Their romance is a wonderful tale from beginning to end. It’s steamy, romantic and funny. I loved it and I look forward to the next book.
Holding Strong and the Ultimate series is highly recommended to fans of contemporary romance. For the best enjoyment I would advise reading this series in order, starting with the first book, No Limits.

It contains previously developed sPrimal Heat is the 6th book in the Shadow Shifters series by A.C. Arthur. I recommend reading this series in order. It contains previously developed storylines that won’t have much impact if you haven’t read the previous books, like me. I’ve only read one other book in this series so I wasn’t as invested in the overall plot. Though, it does culminate into a rather dramatic ending that fans of the series won’t want to miss.
Primal Heat was good but I felt it was lacking emotion. I didn’t really care about the plot or the characters. Eli and Nivea’s relationship seemed to be solely based on sex. In my opinion, sex does not equate to emotion in a story. It needs to be shown and developed separately from the sex or the emotion will be lacking. Eli and Nivea had a strong physical connection and a working relationship but nothing beyond that. It’s not enough to state emotion, it needs to be developed and felt.
Nivea was an interesting, strong and tragic character in many ways. I liked her and felt she deserved more from Eli initially. Eli’s character felt under developed. We get some of his past memories but I still didn’t feel like I got to know him as a character. He frustrated me more than anything with his focus on the negative events in his past. I would have liked to have seen Nivea and Eli bond together in ways that didn’t involve work and sex.
Overall Primal Heat is a good read. It’s a fast paced, sexy story that held my attention. The potential is there. I just hope to see more emotion invested in future stories.
