This is the first book I have read in this series and it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. This one is about Ace and Petunia. Ace is a Hell’s Eight, working as an assayer and gambling in his spare time. Petunia is working as a school teacher, saving money until she can travel to San Francisco. She wants to open a school catering to all children, not just the fortunate ones.
For me, Ace’s Wild was just an okay read. I really didn’t like Ace for the first half of the book and my opinion didn’t change a whole lot by the end. He was very domineering and controlling. His sexual proclivities are of the BDSM variety and it showed that, but it focused mostly on the domination aspect. Ace wanted complete control, not only in the bedroom but all the time.
I don’t have any issues with BDSM, I just didn’t like it in this particular story. I had a hard time picturing that kind of relationship working with the heroine, Petunia, or Pet, as Ace calls her. Petunia is so independent and outspoken that I really couldn’t see how a relationship would work between her and Ace, short of her having a personality change. I think if they had gotten together earlier in the book we could have been shown how it would work between them. The problem is they don’t really get together until the end of the book, so we never see their relationship dynamic put into serious play. The first half, Ace is resistant to getting involved and in the second half, it’s Petunia that is the resistant one. The times that they are together, they are at almost constant odds against each other. I got tired of them rehashing the same arguments over and over again.
In the end, Ace’s Wild just wasn’t for me. It took me awhile to get into it and I lost interest here and there. There were a few good moments and some that had me shaking my head. Some parts I down right didn’t like. The pacing slogged at times and I got tired of the repetitive inner monologues. The romance fell flat for me. I have no desire to continue this series.

Beauty’s Beast by Amanda Ashley is a retelling of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. I’ve read the original version of Beauty and the Beast aBeauty’s Beast by Amanda Ashley is a retelling of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. I’ve read the original version of Beauty and the Beast and it’s quite short so I’m always on the lookout for a good full length retelling of what is one of my favorite fairytales. This version is different from the original in that it focuses on the descent into the beast as opposed to the awakening after the transformation. Beauty’s Beast is a rather dark and somber version, mainly in the second half. I couldn’t put it down yet at the same time it was difficult to read because the overall vibe was so full of despair.
Beauty’s Beast draws you in any you find yourself hoping against hope that these two characters, Erik and Kristine, can find their happily ever after. It’s an interesting story and I enjoyed reading along as Erik slowly thawed his dark and solitary attitude around Kristine. He grows to love her and she him but he despairs for he is becoming a beast, slowly but surely. My heart ached for them and I found myself wondering if they would get their happy ending. All hope seemed lost and the direction dire.
This is a hard book to rate. It’s well written and held my attention. The characters are well crafted with depth and emotion. However it is such a dark telling that it was difficult for me to enjoy. Additionally, I was discomforted by the inclusion of Valerie and could have done without that plot point hanging over the story. But don’t worry this story does have a happy ending. It’s just not an easy journey to get there.
Overall, Beauty’s Beast is a good book. I would recommend it to those that would enjoy a darker Beauty and the Beast.

It is a mix of romance, deception, adventure and mystery. The main characters have a lot of conflict between and at times you won’t care for them. Declan in particular is a character that will rub readers the wrong way at times.
The ending doesn’t feel complete. You are left with questions and can only assume that they will be answer in the next book. If you don’t like cliffhanger endings you may want to avoid this book. The Year of Living Scandalously is recommended for fans of historical romance. ...more

Filled with romance, adCompromised Hearts by Hannah Howell is a reissue, originally published in 1989. It is an excellent Western Historical Romance. Filled with romance, adventure and some wonderful characters you’ll enjoy as well as some that you’ll hope will get what’s coming to them.
Cloud and Emily have great chemistry together and it’s a joy to follow them on their journey through the Wild West and into the San Luis Valley. Along the way you’ll find danger, steamy nights and plenty of Cloud’s former lovers scattered about. The writing style and characters are very endearing, particularly Emily. She is no simpering, spoiled lady but one filled with grit and determination. She handles every situation thrown at her in ways that will have you cheering her on.
Cloud’s character is also very well done. He is a complete rake and shows no qualms about it, but you can’t help but like him. He is blunt, but can also be very charming. He handles the situations with his former lovers well and in a way that helps to spare Emily’s feelings. The secondary characters are an excellent addition to the story. Thornton and James are great as are Giorsal and Cloud’s family.
Compromised Hearts is first and foremost a romance and the love story between Cloud and Emily is wonderful one. It is passionate and charming. There are funny moments as well as tender and heartfelt ones. You’ll enjoy reading as they take the plunge towards love. If you’re a fan of Romances set in the Wild West then be sure to read Compromised Hearts. ...more
Dragon Knight’s Sword is the first book in the Order of the Dragon Knights series by Mary Morgan. It is a story that delves into time travel3.75 Stars
Dragon Knight’s Sword is the first book in the Order of the Dragon Knights series by Mary Morgan. It is a story that delves into time travel, the fae, druids and a dragon. The hero, Duncan Mackay is one of four cursed brothers. The heroine, Brigid is sent through time on a mission to return Duncan’s sword to him and to hopefully help lift his curse.
“Across the sea their destiny awaits. A love will meet through time and space. To right a wrong within this place. Beneath the gate to test your fate.”
I liked the idea behind this novel and I found the story to be entertaining and enchanting. It started a little slow but once Brigid met up with Duncan things picked up pace and got more interesting. Duncan is a hero filled with anger, regret, despair and pain. All he wants to do is reverse the curse for his brothers. He doesn’t believe he deserves to be redeemed. Upon meeting and spending time with Brigid he begins to believe there might be hope for him after all. I really enjoy Brigid and Duncan together. Brigid is a great heroine. She is witty, strong, brave and kind hearted, perfect for the task appointed to her and for Duncan.
The characters in this novel are well done with both depth and emotion. I liked them and I cared what happened to them. The plot is intricately woven with several threads coming together. I particularly enjoyed the ending and I look forward to the next book. I would recommend Dragon Knight’s Sword to fans of historical romance and fantasy.

It is an enjoyable read that will have you following along as Ewen and Janet travel a treacherous journey to help aid the cause of King Robert the Bruce. There is suspense, drama, action and romance. Ewen is a great gruff and tough hero and Janet is a wonderfully smart and independent heroine. Their romantic path is riddled with obstacles and pitfalls including those from themselves.
The Hunter is an entertaining and well-crafted book that will have you rooting for Ewen and Janet. Their romance is steamy, sweet and at times frustrating. Their interactions are funny, sexy, and endearing. It is a detailed and fast paced read filled with political strife and danger. The Hunter is recommended for fans of the series and fans of historical romance. ...more

To make matters worse, all but one of the McHugh clan despises her and they constantly hurl insults at her. Bowen is appalled by how she has been treated and he becomes her protector and champion. The main characters, Rand and Rose had a hard time connecting and not much time is spent on developing their relationship. Rand holds back and Rose keeps secrets from him through the majority of the book. It was frustrating at times because you find yourself wanting to knock some sense into the characters. There is a lot going on and some important issues are glossed over when they would have benefited from more detail. Additionally, parts of the book felt contrived and far-fetched. But, having said all that, the book as a whole is intriguing and keeps your attention throughout. It’s not a great book but it’s a good one. ...more

The fact that hero is a virgin is a unique and compelling aspect of the book. It reads very much like a fairytale, though an adult one. Gawain is a handsome, brave and chivalrous knight. Miriam is a beautiful, head-strong witch. The characters are well done for the most part. Their romance felt a little rushed. It’s always a little difficult to believe when the characters profess undying love to each other after only a few days of knowing each other. The time frame would have been more believable if they had spent more of it together. As it is their time together doesn’t feel very meaningful until towards the end of the book. But that is all part of what makes this read like a fairytale. It would have been nice to have seen more romance and depth to their love story. Certain parts of the book were very well done. Miriam’s familiar Emry was endearing and added a nice touch to the story. The story was a good one and the dialog was well done. All in all Kiss of Honor is an entertaining book that should appeal to romance readers....more

Kristabelle has the ability to see the life force and soul of a person. Darius has some magic ability but his main talent lies in weapons and fighting. They are instantly drawn to each other and end up acting on that attraction even though they risk exposure. It is an erotic tale about magic and corruption, the fight between good and evil. The descriptions and the emotions are well done. You feel the despair of the characters. You can easily visualize the world the author has created. One issue with the story is that the ending feels a little incomplete because we are left wondering if one of the main bad guys ever gets caught.
