The first part of this story does drag a bit while we get to know the characters, but that happens in every first book in a new series or even spin off series as with this book. The character of Cassiel reminds me of Amelie in Morgan vampires, cold and unfeeling and begins become more human the longer she stays in the form and the longer she's around them. Some who read this book will dislike Cassiels character as she is about as cuddly as a terminator. She is growing though. Caine always presents a stimulating read.
Another plus, if you are a hater of five second romances, not happening here. That is one of the biggest gaffes in urban/paranormal fantasy, they cannot seem to get away from love at first sight romances. Quite appreciation and future interest adds more mystery to the book and will keep us coming back till we get it. Author embraces the story all heart rather than woo you into submission with unsaid, and very loudly thought, I love yous until the reader is ready to scream.(less)

It gets four stars since I fell in love with some of the characters and will trick myself into trudging on with the series. It just did not make the earth shattering impression I thought it would.
Samuel's character really annoys me I wish he would stop interloping on adam and go away and come back NEVER. (less)
Vampire Valentine (Aregneau, #12.5) by Lynsay Sands 2 stars I was looking forward to mirabeau's story, love her style, not as great as id's hoped.
Hearts Untamed (Feral Warriors, #4.5) by Pamela Palmer 5 stars Surprising. My favorite short story since rachel caine's even a rabbit will bite.
Kiss and Kill Cupid (Offspring, #2.5) by Jaime Rush 3.5 stars I enjoyed it. I haven't read the first in this series so maybe I am reading this out of context, but I couldn't help feeling the characters were missing that something that helps you connect and care about them. The story was very good.(less)

Not a lot of crime fighting in this one, more like nancy drew super sleuth. Really enjoyed the character of Georgina even though there isn't much slashing and kicking, after all she's a lover not a fighter.
The author does have a way with words and weaving of the main characters back story she can pull you right into the pages alongside the character. I look forward to reading other stories by this author. (less)

My brother runs away back to where I use to live, I find out my mother is not my real mother & said mother tries to strangle me & what do is the first thing I do do??? Why, leave the house and go out on a date, swoon. "gag" Good Lord above. caitlin is a complete twit. Even if I didn't like my brother I would do nothing else before I had my hands on him again. And what is up with the pervert boyfriend, this is supposed to be for teens right?
About five minutes into this I was ready to torch it. Since it is in audio it is impossible to so, drat!! Since I started it and it is short I was hoping it would get really good an hour into it.. IT DIDN'T GET BETTER. At first I thought it was the narrator who is really boring I have come to the conclusion that it is the story. I had to watch highlander & bladerunner while listening to this to even force myself to stomach it. I usually do other things while listening to audiobooks, that is why they exist after all, but never have I watched movies to try and drown a book out. Simply Awful. (less)

DO NOT JUDGE THIS BOOK BY THE COVER!
The story wasn't too terrible. Most of it is very interesting. Most of the character on the other hand, well, they are awful! Too much crap happened in the first part of the book that was not plausible or should NEVER BE! Not even really knowing your uncle who then gifts you his oodles of money when he's spent more time with the barista down at the coffee bar. Unlikely. More like wishful thinking.
The forced relationship between Jayne and Aubrey was dryer than a piece of burnt toast. I wouldn't have minded a relationship between her an Ex. Might have even made the rating go up.
A few of the character are entertaining. At this point they could all die off in the apocalypse and I wouldn't shed a single tear. (less)

F...moreAfter the horror of Turned by morgan rice I was gunshy about my next ya vampire series. I randomly chose this off of my e-reader and gave it a shot. First off, it is a little too teen. If you can get around that the wit in this will have you rolling in the isles. I do get the urge to slap sunshine in a number of scenes for being so childish, ignorant and regret that Rayne is not included enough.
"I, uh, didn't finish reading the whole thing. I mean, it was pretty long."
Rayne stares at me. "The pheromone thing is like the third entry down."
"Yeah, but," I can feel my face heating up. "There were these links and ..."
"Yeah, to really good stories about Spike and Angel..."
"So let me get this straight," Rayne says, crossing her arms over her chest, looking very unhappy. "Instead of catching up on the vital information you need to know about your impending vampire transformation, you instead chose to read Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfic?"
Okay, when she puts it that way, it does seem like a bad decision on my part. But some of those stories were way juicy and . . .
The series reminds me of vampire kisses which is cute and funny at times, however inconsistent & repetitive it gets. I do hope that once I explore the later books in this series that it will keep it's spunk.(less)

I was really prepared to like this even though I knew it would be a fluff book. About halfway through I tried throwing in the towel, but ended up stranded on the couch with my 80lb pitbull using my lap as a pillow sooo I grudgingly finished it.
First I rented this for the werewolf sighting -what I really wanted!
and what we get is chad Kroeger. No. I am deadly serious.
That is just NOT OK!
The character of Celeste is a waste of space. Brandon saves her from a pack of wolves and she won't even admit to anyone that he saved her. PLUS, it takes an eon for her to get around to even saying thank you. She is superficial and cares only about her status and what her friends think about everything she does and who she even talks to. She worries about losing her bff's because they might find out she's dating A WESTSIDER *GASP*. (less)

Angel's wolf / by Nalini Singh - 4 Stars A very good tale that ended in a nice twist.
Alphas: Origins / by Ilona Andrews - 5 Stars THAT WAS FANTASTIC!!!! Please make a series, please make a series, please make a series. The magic number is three right, *wink*.
Nocturne / by Sharon Shinn - 4.5 Stars A good tale about overcoming ones self pit and self loathing long enough to enjoy what still remains of life. My first sharon shinn story and I will be exploring later.
Ascension / by Meljean Brook - 2.5 stars Wasn't attached to this one. Haven't read the others in this series yet so that could be a factor.(less)

If you've read a paranormal adventure and come away feeling bored I don't think you'll find that anywhere near this book. I bought the graphic audio version of this and listened to it last night while multi tasking it was refreshing in the wee hours of the morning all drowsiness snuffed out. For how short this book was the author was able to squeeze in a lot of back story for the main protagonist. Even the crime was a refreshing twist not just same old, same old. I will be reading a few more books by this author. The book has its flaws but I really enjoyed it. Could have used more development on some of the lesser characters.
*Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* *Spoilers* Well, kind of... It could have done without the five second romance with Saul, it felt a little forced. It seems in every paranormal book they have an introduced love at first sight romance. I prefer the subtle intro like in the morganville vampires books. Then there is always past lover returns like in the stormwalker series which just added to the uniqueness of the series. Or even just hate your guts kind of relationship for a time and then love blooms which can be the most realistic.(less)

Author embraces the very violent take on werewolves, no sparklies in this bunch.
However steel like anita's character is she is very entertaining. Although I do wish we could see more action from some of the other fantastic characters the author has created. Hint, hint, need more of death *Edward*. Other characters are included but they blend into the scenery giving the entire spotlight to one character making Anita seem more vain.
The relationship drama is over the top since it has been three books without major love drama. At the end of the circus of the damned I was really looking forward to the relationship between anita & richard. At the beginning of this book however your thrown months forward into their dating and you feel this gaping hole. Your left scratching your head thinking 'what?'. There is no relationship development whatsoever in this book.
I agree Jean Claude is getting really stalker-ish with his relationship demands and I feel if he truly loved her he would let her have who she wants. Even if it's not him.(less)
