I knew I would fall back in love with the Shadow Falls series and I wasn't disappointed one bit. I saw so much improvement from Awake at Dawn to Taken at Dusk that had me wanting so much more.
Just like the first two books, Taken at Dusk puts you right back into the story and this time it's with a bang. Kylie is meeting her adoptive grandparents for the first time but in good fashion not everything is what it seems with the couple ending up being imposters. This along with all the other threats to Kylie has her assigned shadows, someone who goes everywhere with her. At least this didn't stop the very many juicy boy scenes or Kylie's attempts at helping spirits. I was very much impressed with Kylie this time around. Where she was mostly whining and crying in book 2, Kylie started facing her problems head on and started accepting all her powers. What I loved most was how far she went to help her Jane Doe spirit when both Kylie and the ghost had no idea what had happened in the past. But Kylie kept pushing forward and it was very impressive.
I also found that Taken at Dusk had gotten back around to the original roots of the story. There is so much more happening with the supernaturals, you still have a big love triangle but it's not the main focus, and you see so much love and friendship with many of the campers coming together when need be. There is a lil less action then I would have liked which is what stopped me from giving this 5 stars, but Taken at Dusk as a whole is one great book. There are also a few surprises at the end which fuels the need to keep reading this series and hopefully soon I will be able to do just that.(less)

After reading Born at Midnight I was very excited to get more into the Shadow Falls series. I did wait quite a while to read Awake at Dawn but I was quite let down with the story and really don't mind so much I did wait.
Even though Awake at Dawn jumps right back into the story, I felt the focus was on the wrong things. Most of the book was Kylie going between Derek and Lucas. I love a good love triangle but not when it takes up the whole story. I also felt that there was just way too much drama and just once in a while focusing on Shadow Falls being a supernatural camp. As much as I liked Kylie in Born at Midnight I really didn't like her in this book at all. She spent way too much time whining and crying instead of figuring out what she was supposed to do according to the ghost. Kylie is still one big mystery with new powers showing up and yet she wanted everyone else to tell her all the answers. Unfortunately for me Awake at Dawn wasn't proportioned properly. It would go from boy problems for a long time and then randomly throw in a wolf or a vampire and then go back to boy problems, which made the actual action parts not make sense.
Awake at Dawn finally came together at the end making me wish even more that this book had more action. It seemed like everything got jammed into the ending just to make you want the next book and yes I will continue on with the very high hopes that there will be way more action and a lot less drama. I see so much potential in the Shadow Falls series that I can hope this was a one time glitch in my not quite liking a book.(less)

I love the cover and the title is so perfect. I loved the whole supernatural sense in this story. There were pretty much all types of supernaturals and it was fun getting to know them. Kylie makes friends with Miranda and Della who were so funny together. Their relationship with each other is natural and real and I loved them all. The guys were awesome. Derek was a cutie and always there for Kylie and anyone really. He's a real caring, sweet guy. But then there's Lucas who definitely pulled me in. He's mysterious and aloof but always there at the right time. Kylie was an interesting characther altogether. She's pretty fierce when it comes to her friends but when it came to herself she was all over the place. When she was hurting I felt bad but sometimes she was a little to over emotional which frustrated me. But all in all I liked her as the main character and she definitely comes into her own. Born At Midnight has supernatural, friendship, hot guys, and mystery. I can't wait to read the next in this series, Awake At Dawn.(less)

He was such a mystery guy in My Blood Approves and in Fate and I'm glad this story was written to learn about him. I hope more novellas come out. Maybe one for Ezra?(less)

I loved the fact that there was no pause in between books because you don't miss anything and you don't have to wait forever to find out what has happened. I have said this once and I will say it again, My Blood Approves series is the best vampire series I have read. It keeps getting better if that's possible. Flutter is so intense especially between Jack, Alice, and Peter and everything just flows together. This book has the right amount of intensity and action and I just loved it. I'm sure I will be reading this book again soon.(less)

I loved the whole family of vampires and that they could blend in so well. Jack is my favorite he is so funny and his relationship with Alice is so easy and real. Mae is so cute in that motherly way she would be an interesting big sister to have and I wouldn't mind having Ezra and Peter as brothers even if they are good looking. Everyone takes care of each other and protects one another.(less)

I actually bought the ecopy and read this last year then later on bought the physical copy and decided to reread and give a review.
Descended by Blood is a vampire story with a very intriguing back story. The race of Pijawikas, which are born vampires, and Zao Duhs, made vampires, comes from Croatia and have also kept the language. You learn a lot about their way of vampire and I was very glad pieces were brought forth all throughout the book instead of all at once. Pijawikans and Zao Duhs have always been in hiding and at the same time do work for the government under the disguise that they know about them. But there are other Pijawikans who would like to bring back war and turn the Zao Duhs and humans into slaves using Brooke, the main character.
Brooke and her mom have moved all over the place until finally settling down at the request of a family friend, Garwin. Everything seems to be going great with having a fantastic best friend and finally getting to date they guy Brooke has been crushing on since coming to town. One night while Brooke and Jaren were hanging out a man came with the intention to kidnap Brooke. They ended up fighting, the man was killed, and Brooke and Jaren are told to go to Garwin's place. This is where Brooke is told she is half Pijawikan and that she needs to leave in order to stay safe. Brooke, along with Kaitlynn and Jaren, fly out to Utah to a secret base with their new guard Mirko. This is where Brooke would train and learn to fight and also be protected from whoever wants her.
As much as I loved Descended by Blood there were still plenty of things that turned me off. Mainly it was Brooke and Jaren. Brooke most of the time was pretty whiney and also petty. Instead of focusing on being alive she cared more about if she had to move again and if she would still be with Jaren. Jaren I didn't like much at all and I thought those two being together was ridiculous and came on too sudden. After dating Brooke for like a week, Jaren ends up kissing his ex girlfriend and then later telling Brooke he loves her. After patching up that rough spot Jaren breaks up with Brooke right after learning she's a vampire. He contradicted himself too much and instantly wanted forgiveness on his time. Mirko I absolutely fell in love with. All of his pain and suffering has turned him into a great guy who would fight to death for those he cared for. He did have a cocky attitude but it totally worked and I loved seeing him grow closer to Brooke as the story progressed. Kaitlynn was my other favorite and not just because we share a name. She took everything without question and was always there from Brooke no matter what.
I am also glad I reread this book because I am pretty sure I wouldn't have remembered the story when I finally got the second in this series. I do hope for more character growth but other than that I can't wait for all the action and kicking butt and of course more Mirko.(less)
