Though bornFrom a young age, Scarlett Night has aspired to be a pilot. There's nothing she wants more, and she'll do everything to make that happen. Though born colorblind, she's promised herself that she'll get over that small bump in order to make her dreams happen. Her parents have done everything possible to give her the freedom she needs to see things through. For that, she's always grateful.
An unexpected attack one night changes life as she knows it. Where once she saw the world in black and white, now she can now see colors of all kinds. Her heart aches to know that she's lost the two things she held so close to her heart, her beloved parents. To make matters worse, she now has a secret to hide. One that can further change her entire world.
Determined to change the way things are, Scarlett promises herself that she'll do everything possible to make those who took her parents away pay. Granted, she's not quite up to par in being able to deal them any lasting damage, but she's willing to learn, nonetheless. With her new friend by her side doing so will definitely be possible.
As the secrets of a past her parents have kept from her come to light, Scarlett realizes there is more at stake than she knew. She must also contend with the fact that there are those hell-bent on doing away with Zeniths and what she's now come to know as the Nephilim. If she's to succeed in setting all wrongs to right, she must now accept what she has now become. To do that, she'll need to hone her skills and let go of all that prevents her from doing what's right no matter how painful.
A wonderful start to what promises to be a great series, Court of Nightfall will hook you in from the get-go. Combining all things apocalyptic with strings of paranormal and a little fantasy, you've a story full of action, intrigue, and lots of deceit. We learn quite a bit about Scarlett Night, though most of who and what she is, is still a mystery.
I've a feeling that there are great things to come for this headstrong Nephilim. I honestly can't wait to see what Karpov-Kinrade bring us next for this wonderful series. Will Scarlett be able to deal her own brand of justice and bring peace to her world and that of the Zeniths? It's hard to say, but it's going to be awesome in finding out when the time comes!...more

He hates the fact that someone has taken Rebecca away from him. Jealousy makes a person do odd things, a fact he knows quite well. He blames himself for what's happened, and wishes he could change the circumstances that now surround him.
Crystal Smith, his one saving grace, has done her best to keep him grounded to the world around him. She gives him the clarity and light to fight through the darkness. Deep inside, he finds it disturbing that she invokes so much emotion within him. So much so, that he sometimes feels he's losing control of the facade he's created for himself for such a long time.
Determined in holding on to who he was and still is, Mark begins to set up boundaries between himself and Crystal. Boundaries he hopes will help him overcome the stirrings of his own heart. As each day passes, Crystal begins to delve deeper in the man beneath his cold exterior. Part of him wants to remain cold and aloof. To let Crystal believe he's nothing like the man she thinks he is.
As his facade begins to crack around her, Mark soon realizes that the changes occurring left and right will happen no matter what comes his way. If he's to succeed in holding on to what he loves the most, he must meet the chaos head on. Rebecca's memory must be upheld. To do that, he'll need to sink to a level he never thought possible. The question is, will he able to bear what's surely headed his way when the time comes?
Another great addition to the Inside Out series, I Belong To You doesn't disappoint. We delve deeper into Mark's secrets and get to see the man behind his closely guarded facade. It's refreshing to see his vulnerabilities come to light, though he does his best to hide them. Crystal complements his hardened exterior, and loves him no matter what comes their way. I look forward to seeing the final closure to Rebecca's chapter. It's a shame what's happened to her, and hope Ava finally gets her due. ...more

To make matters worse, it now looks like his older brother, Maury, is in danger. Al's mind refuses to make sense of the situation, considering the fact that the two haven't spoken in ages. Still, if he can keep his brother alive long enough for him to settle the score, then he will. The question is, can he trust his instincts when it comes to Maury himself?
To Hell And Gone In Texas is one of those books that draws you in from the get-go. Action-packed, it's chock full of intrigue, mayhem, deceit, and no-hold-barred gun fights. I was glued to the seat of my pants as I dove head-first into this story, hoping to find answers as to why Maury was being so evasive and keeping his brother out of the loop. Though this book is a standalone novel, I do so hope we get see more of these wonderful characters. The world Russ has created around them has definitely piqued my interest!...more
Eve 142 has lived a monotonous existence from the moment she was born in New Eden. She is like all the other clones, homely, predictable, and contentEve 142 has lived a monotonous existence from the moment she was born in New Eden. She is like all the other clones, homely, predictable, and content with the life she leads. At eighteen years old, her life has only just begun. Like her, her beloved Adam 142 gets to learn the daily nuances of what life in New Eden is like. It'll help them make the best decisions possible as the days go on.
When an unexpected accident occurs and both are banished from the city itself, Eve isn't sure as to what she should do. She's heard stories of what life was like before The War. Such knowledge frightens her to the point that she isn't sure as to whether she can go on living outside of the walls of New Eden. In her mind, she's not ready for the horrors she'll soon face. How can she be? Life outside of the dome is atrocious at best.
Determined to make the most of her situation, Eve and Adam embark on a journey that soon changes the way they see the world. Life amongst the citizens inhabiting the Wasteland is nothing like the world they've known. The people there don't have the same advancements or opportunities they do while at the dome. Everything is different in more ways than one.
Eve soon realizes that what she and Adam have been told about the world outside New Eden is a lie. There is and always will be life outside the dome. Why this fact has been kept from the clones, she doesn't know, though she's determined in finding out. Deep inside, she knows that uncovering the secrets of New Eden's past won't be pretty. Yet others must know of what's being hidden from them. The question is, how much is she willing to risk in order to make a life for herself and Adam once everything is said and done?
A truly intriguing book, Beyond New Eden gets into the nitty-gritty of what life as a clone is like. Set in the distant future, we get to learn about a group of people who are cloned from the same model. They live and die in the dome, never once questioning their own existence. All that changes however, when the unexpected accident occurs.
Based on what the world would be like if such things were to truly happen, H. S. describes an environment that is highly realistic. Mind you, human cloning is outlawed in this day and age, but who's to say that such things won't happen in the future. A truly thrilling read, Beyond New Eden opens the mind to what life would be like if cloning were to be an option. Definitely looking forward to more of H. S.'s writing....more
Determined to make the best of the situation she now finds herself in, Tori promises herself that she'll do everything possible to come out on top. FaDetermined to make the best of the situation she now finds herself in, Tori promises herself that she'll do everything possible to come out on top. Faced with several tough decisions, she soon realizes that life has never been what she's wanted it to be. Though she's made progress in some aspects of her life, she's not quite content with the way things have gone. Deep inside, there's something missing, though she isn't quite sure as to what it is.
Though she's now a part of her brother's band, Tori knows that appearances are always deceiving. The band is just a front, a way for her deal with the backlash of what has yet to come. With every day that passes, she clamors for something better. Something that will pull her out of the fog that threatens to consume her by the second. Her inner demons are slowly clawing to the surface, determined in showing her exactly what she's missing.
As if that's not enough, those she'd left behind and in the past are slowly insinuating themselves into her life again. Tori's done her best to forget Brett and Enrique, and what they represent. She's tried everything to live a normal life, though now she knows that will never be possible. Sooner or later, she knows she'll need to confront everything she's done. Part of her knows it's going to be difficult. The question is, how much more will she be able to endure before she breaks completely?
Another startling addition to the New Life series, Intrepid dives into the heart of the ensuing controversy that surrounds Tori and those she's come across. She's lived a very tough life and no longer knows who she can or can't trust. Heck, she's not even sure if she can trust herself. Samantha did a great job in showing us more of Tori's vulnerabilities, as well as how much she can take. The girl is determined in making a better life for herself no matter what those she comes across dishes out to her.
It so sucks that a good many try to take advantage of her, though. I get that they want to make sure she does exactly as she's supposed to. The one thing that also bothers me is Tori's depravity in doing what needs to be done. She's suffered so much already. Does she really need to sink into the darkness like she does just to make sure she gets her point across? Overall, Intrepid does tie up quite a few loose ends, but it does open up a whole new can of worms. Still, Tori is a headstrong character and she eventually gets things done. I do hope that she gets her happy ending soon enough. ...more

Somehow, someway, he will set all wrongs to right, no matter the painful outcome.
This is honestly quite an intriguing book. Quite controversial, it delves into the darker side of our beliefs, showing us the world through a demon’s eyes. While most of us believe that Hell is bad, that it’s a place we end up at to atone for our sins in the worse of ways, Carly has shown us that it’s not much different from the world as we know it. In a metaphorical sense, of course. It’s painstakingly apparent just how much research has gone into the creation of this book. It’s a well-crafted universe, based on religious beliefs, but told from a different perspective to help us understand what life for those coming from the underworld is like alongside the word itself.
Cain has been bound to darker forces, pushed in a direction he has no wish to go. Unfortunately, it’s the way of things, and he can’t free himself until he comes across that guitar. It’s then that the forces of good and evil are pitted against one another in the hopes of becoming the victor in a war as old as time. The war between good and evil is never-ending. Carly makes that apparent throughout the book itself. Sometimes, though, there’s always a silver-lining. You just have to believe you can reach it. No matter what side you fight for, that happy-ending is always there. Definitely a different, but very unique and intriguing read, Devil Music will take you for a ride in every way possible....more

ThiAt eight years of age, young Emily Harris' outlook on life is optimistic. A little precocious and quite bright, she's also the victim of Leukemia. This small fact, however, is one she refuses to allow to hamper her happiness. She's determined in making the most of what little life she has left, diving head-first into the world that surrounds her.
Emily's favorite past-time, once it's available, of course, is the Shindig on the Green. She lives for the moment when she can walk along the area, examining each venue offered and listening to the music that always surrounds her. In her mind, life doesn't get any better than that. It's those little moments that allow her to make the most of the uncertainty that's become her life.
When an unexpected opportunity lands in Emily's lap, she decides to go with it. She has a chance of sharing her world with others in a way she never thought possible. Granted, her parents aren't happy about the sudden changes, but they'll do anything to make sure she's content, nonetheless.
Utilizing a myriad of sand timers she comes across, Emily is able to put her world, and that of her loved one, into a better perspective. In her mind, the sand timers allow her to traverse to a plane that lets her leave behind the pain and heartache she experiences because of the illness that consumes her. As her dreams take flight, she soon realizes that life has other plans for her and those around her. Come what may, she'll do everything to make sure her hopes and dreams are carried out no matter what happens in the long run.
A delightful, yet bittersweet story, Hour Measure opens up your mind to what it's like for such a young soul to live with Leukemia. Emily is bright and energetic, never letting go of her ideals. She's smart and funny, and definitely older than her years depict.
I found her to be quite enthusiastic in the face of such adversity. The way she delivers her philosophy of life whenever the moment suits her cements the fact that she sees the world through a different set of eyes. Mark has created such a beautiful character within Emily that it's hard not to feel love and compassion once you dive into her world.
Utilizing several poems written by his brother, Ron Roemmich, Mark has given us a story that tugs on your heartstrings and leaves you wanting to read more about Emily and those she loves. This is a story you'll definitely read over and over again. I know I will! Mark is an author to keep an eye on. I look forward to more of what's to come for him....more

This is a fact Ean has come to know well. He's tried for so long to make sense of his entire existence, hoping to glean some insight on the secrets that have been kept from him. Though he's tried his best to do what's right, it has been difficult. To make matters worse, his strands are now tied to the vicious Dorn.
Ean knows he needs to break free of the chains that bind him. Dorn has plans. Plans that include him, and not in a good way. Though Isabel has done her best to warn him of what's to come, he knows it's not going to be easy in achieving his freedom. Magic is a force to be reckoned with. More so when it's linked heavily to the shadows surrounding the entire realm.
If he's going to achieve an ends to his own means, Ean knows he'll need to tap into his unexplored potential. Dorn must be taken down by any means necessary. His plans do not bode well for the realm, a certainty he's come to know quite well. The lives of many are at stake, his included. Deep inside, he knows he'll do everything possible to do what's right, or die trying in the process.
Another great addition to this series, The Paths Of Alir takes off in a way that the first two books never have. Here, we're given further insights into the workings of the beloved realm Melissa has created. Diverse characters come together to try and save the world itself, while doing away with the evil that surrounds them. It was great to see so many loose ends being tidied up in such a way that it left you wanting to read more of these great characters. Perhaps we'll get to see more of these characters in the future. We can hope, right?...more

Faith was a sight to behold, all battered up from the chaos her boyfriend subjected her to. With it being so close to Christmas, he knows he can't leave her in the conditions she finds herself in. She needs a helping hand, and he will be the one to give it to her.
Taking her back to the castle, Karl never once imagined the flurry of activity that would ensue because of Faith's unexpected appearance. She's human and so out of his league. In his mind, he justifies her being there with the fact that she's hurt. She has nowhere to go, thus he's determined in being in her guardian vangel--you know, Viking vampire angel.
Things take an unexpected turn when Karl is summoned before Michael and the others. They're not happy that he's compromised who and what they are. Though he's been given a decree, he knows he can't follow through on it. Faith has become his world, and he'll do everything to keep her safe. He has to. She's the one thing he can never do without.
While I've begun this series with this first book, I have to say that it was a wonderful and quick read. We're immersed in the lives of several vangels as they strive to make the best of the coming holiday. Their banter amongst themselves was certainly delightful. I see this series as a parody of all things apocalyptic. Definitely a good read....more

Trell finds himself at the heart of it, foundering in a dark abyss he doesn't know he'll ever be rid of. Though he's made difficult choices, he's done his best to live with them. He's overcome a myriad of obstacles in the hopes of setting all wrongs to right.
So far, things have stabilized for him, though Trell knows that the battle is far from over. The darkness hovers on the horizon, looming ever closer with every step he takes. His past has been slowly catching up to him, giving him glimpses of what he should have known a long time ago. Someone has wanted him out of the way, though he could never understand why. Not until now.
Determined to hold on to what's been given to him, Trell has promised to do everything possible to keep the enemy at bay. Though things have been difficult, there's no way he's going to let go of what's been given to him. Most especially the beautiful Alyneri. She's done her best to help him cope with who and what he is. The two of them have a purpose to fulfill, and he's going to make sure everything comes to pass.

A good many seek to silence him, once and for all, hoping to lend a hand to the impending darkness. Deep inside, he knows it must be banished. Though everything in life comes with a price, he soon realizes just how high is the one he must eventually pay.
Another wonderful addition to this series, The Dagger of Adendigaeth picks up where Cephrael's Hand left off. Here we get to fully realize the battles occurring throughout the realm itself. I enjoyed seeing things unfold as Ean, Raine, Trell, and several others sought to assert themselves throughout the book itself. Each are immersed in adversities that take them far and wide as they seek the needed answers to the questions in their minds. Questions that seem to draw more questions the farther along within their quests they get.
While some of the loose ends from book one were closed, several new ones were left behind in this one. Though I've a feeling that book three will tidy them up when the time comes. I honestly can't wait to see if Trell is finally able to find that freedom that seems to elude him. He's finally come to know who and what he is, though the knowledge has come with a price. A good many are fighting to protect his livelihood while dying in the process. Perhaps he'll get his happy ending soon enough despite the chaotic world in which he lives.
