Yes another book about vampires, but that's not just what it is about! The book had me captivated from the first page. Lily, is the daughter of the last keeper in a long line of keeper's for the vampire king Krieger. Knowing he is sick and will be dying soon, he asks a favor of the king, to take in his daughter and protect her. The king agrees and Lilly's father is later found murdered. Lily is abnormal, though she is very intelligent, she is shy and can remember things perfectly. She rarely talks and does not like being around people. That all changes when she enters Krieger's world. She is comfortable there and feels like she actually belongs, though it is supernatural and all new to her. Another character, detective Hunter enters the story and helps the vampire king and lily with clues as to what happened to her father.
This story was exactly what I needed to read. It kept me intrigued and always left me wanting to read just a little bit more. There is a bit of romance in the book, which I really liked, and overall very much enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and even though LiIy was timid and weak at first, like how she became stronger. i also like that the vampire king wasn't cold hearted like many old vampire kings in other books. the characters were well written and felt real. I completely recommend this book and hope you take the time to read it. A wonderful book, a wonderful story! Not just another vampire story!...more

I've read quite a few vampire books now, but I've never read one where vampires hold humans captive or as slaves. I thought this book would be of a powerful vampire who should be feared and would torture his captives and slaves, but instead this book and its main character Derek surprised me. I fell in love with the story, captivated by the story of Sofia and Derek. I loved seeing the book from both Derek and Sofia's point of view. I Also loved that Derek still held a bit of the humanity in him, though he was far from human, and pretty much the leader and a legend of the vampires. The storyline is great and the book was very fast paced. I was able to read it in just a few hours. Usually books start off slow, especially when they are the first book in a series, but not this one. The whole time I was reading I was captivated by the story. I loved the relationship between the main characters, and I loved Sofia's character. She was so strong, even at her weakest. Lucas, the evil vampire brother was such a great character to add in the mix and it made Derek so much more likeable. Also, the ending was really good, I can't wait to see what happens next! Like I said, I read it in the span of a few hours and enjoyed every second of it. The author definitely made you part of the story by making the character's and their emoticons so real and it was so easy to attach yourself to them. I completely recommend this book and would definitely read it again in the future. Now get on your Kindle's, computers, iPads, and get this book! You won't regret it. ...more

Many might think, there is no way that this can be true, but the Word of God tells us that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12. God is amazing, with Him on our side, what have we to fear? He can set us free from all things.... I really liked this book:)...more
I have to say that I was a bit hesitant to read this because I'm not a big zombie fan. I don't really likeFULL REVIEW ON MY BLOG: www.GlamourGlory.com
I have to say that I was a bit hesitant to read this because I'm not a big zombie fan. I don't really like Resident Evil and other movies like that, but this book sounded interesting. It deals with Jacob who contracts the meat virus disease and can only eat meat after getting the virus. Anything other than meat will make those infected sick and if they don't consume meat and keep trying to eat regular food they can die. This is what caught my attention. I had never heard of this topic before for a book, and that made me want to read it.
This book also deals with cannibalism and the topic of zombies. It is not your post apocalyptic book, but it was interesting and different than anything I have ever read before. Truthfully when the story brought up the cannibalism aspect, I was a bit disgusted, but I kept reading and found that it made the story very real. The only other story that I recalled knowing about was Hannibal, and I quite enjoyed that movie. (Creepy much?) Jacob's character seemed so real and the interactions between him and his friends were not fake, but instead they seemed to flow effortlessly, and it made me become attached to the characters. I understood their emotions and felt for them when they were in pain and laughed at their jokes when they said any, they were for the hours I read, my friends. The scenarios were well written, the descriptions of the meat eating and learning to prepare the meat at the end was a bit nerve wrecking, but when you are at your wits end, you will do anything to survive, right?
The book is also full of suspense as the characters flee from the "Control Group," whose mission is to kill those that are infected. But, not all of them are crazy "zombies," as the people call them, the ones who attack have what seems like a mutated version of the virus.
Friends, this book is definitely worth reading! It leaves off at a cliffhanger and leaves you wishing you could keep reading more because you want to know what happens to them and to the virus. I definitely give this book 5 stars. The author does a wonderful job of making you feel sympathetic towards the infected main characters and that's hard to do, especially with what they have to do to survive. Do not let the zombie/meat virus scenario fool you, this is not another zombie apocalypse story, it is full of surprises and the characters are so real, you can't help but love this crazy story (and hope it never really happens)! Now go get on your computer, iPad, Kindle, whatever, and download this book!...more

I have never read a book by Amy Plum before and this book was just amazing. From the beginning it was just so good. The first few pages were confusing because of the Indian names but after that I really got into the story. Anytime I had a spare moment I was reading it.
The story: Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that her whole clan has been taken, she must then leave the boundaries of their land, which she and her family have never done after world war III happened and the rest of the world was left devastated. Her village are very deeply connected to the Yara, a kind of earth spirit that can interact with any organism of earth and can give a person powers, amongst other things.
Juneau sets off on a journey to find her family/clan and only then does she realize that the world outside her village is intact and that there was no world war III. There are people still alive and cities still out there.
"Beneath me lies a city. It is not in ruins. It isn’t decimated by war and poisoned by radiation. It is a thriving city with massive glass buildings glistening in the late-afternoon sun. This is not a postapocalyptic wasteland." [quote from uncorrected proof and might change once the final edition comes out.}
She struggles with the fact that everything she was brought up to believe was a lie and that maybe the people she trusted and loved the most were the ones to deceive her. The only way for her to find out is to find her clan. As she sets out to find them she meets Miles and this is where things get interesting. Since I don't want to spoil anything, I will say that I love their conversations! He thinks she's psychotic and she thinks he's untrustworthy and spoiled. The only reason they stick to each other is because they are both a means to an end.
The ending was left on a cliffhanger, a good one I might add. I didn't see it coming. This book was so good that when I came to the end of the book I was like "that's it?" In a good way because I wanted more! I cannot wait to read what happens next! I really enjoyed this book. The story was definitely new to me; I had never read anything like it before. Imagine plucking someone from the early 19th century and bringing them into our modern city. That is the story of Juneau. This is definitely a must-read! Amy Plum is a great writer and I will definitely be reading more of her books now, if not all of them. 5/5 stars....more

I did the love dare during the time that KSBJ had it on their website and I know it helped improve our marriage. We have been together for 6 years and married almost 4. Though we try our best, there are still things that all marriages go through. This book really helps to put your faith in God, and your marriage into His hands. I think it would benefit any marriage, and even a dating relationship. Use it as a way to improve your marriage, one simple task a day... Loved it! Will give to a friend for sure... It is geared toward the artists in the church: dancer, singer, worship leader, actor, etc... It is a great book for your artists at church and I think it should be a requirement to read because it is so darn good! It was required for us to read during one of our worship classes at school and I am so thankful we did because it was an eye opener and I loved reading scripture and advised from a worship leader to us. I currently have two other books on my shelf ready to read by Noland: The thriving Artist and The Worshiping Artist because I loved this one so much. Though I read this in eBook format, the other two are in paperback because that way I can highlight, mark it up, tab it, and look at those notes later. Read it! You won't regret it!
