This was a little quieter than the rest of the FBI series. No real danger brewing, just an unending character study. A true-blue romance that takes the reader through a relationship. Mz. James does it with sass and WHEW! Sexy times.
I truly enjoyed.
The ending pretty much kicked my ass on a personal level and put it to the top of my favorites list because of it. Hurts so good.

But nothing prepared me for this one. And I might just have to kiss the author for it, followed by a swift and brutal punch. (I have a feeling that Mz. Reisz will understand and smile when I say this.)
I can only hope that I will have 1/10th of the honesty she has in her writing someday.
Forever, a piece of me will be grateful for reading it. But in the same token this is a book that shall never EVER be re-read. Because of the moment that I read it. Because of the importance of the message and the characters at this ONE time in my life. All of it may never be duplicated. And I need its moment of perfect perfection.
A re-read might never be the same again and I can't sully its beautiful hold.
The characters are so honest and so amazing that it was painful to watch everything unfold. The brilliance was terrifying. That the author never wavered, never took the easy route--NEVER let me rest through the book was only part of its power.
Books are supposed to change you.
They rarely do.
This one did.
If I could give it 6 stars--11 stars--100 stars, I would.
Thank you for writing this book.
Thank you for pushing every characters to the edge.

Sam Miller is one of those characters that climbs into your brain and burrows in for a good long stay. He's emotional, rough around the edges, sad, guilt ridden, hopeless, hopeful, and a host of other adjectives. You know why I can keep listing off things to tell you about Sam?
Because Cari showed me again and again just what Sam was thinking, feeling, and doing all through this novel. And man...I felt for him every inch of the way.
Then you have Rory Fowler. She's never trusted her own instincts when it comes to relationships. Instead, she hid behind friends with benefits relationships that she knew would never move beyond that level. She liked the uncomplicated. She may have even needed the uncomplicated. Watching her come to terms with the emotions that Sam brings out in her is messy, funny, sometimes sad. And through it all you couldn't help but root for these guys.
The sigh factor is about as huge as you can get.
Read this.
NOW.
Even if you're worried about the 'sad' factor because of Sam's circumstances. It's worth the journey.(less)
I watched him for another minute or two. A strong, hard, pantingly horny man is a marvelous creature, everything the gender ought to be...yet so frequently isn't, in this day and age. This was how Didier looked when he was by himself. Who did he think of, when he did this?
His groans grew harsher, driving the bad thought away and drawing my attention back where it should be.
I stood and skirted the shade, intending simply to move it aside. But my fear was gone so I let my body lead me, and it led me to sit right next to him on the edge of the bed and watch from close up. His lids looked leaden as he turned his face to me. I could have kissed him, I'm sure. I even leaned in, but when we made contact it was forehead to forehead. Yet it felt more personal than any kiss I'd ever experienced, more explicit by miles. His skin was hot and damp, breath sweet from the wine and scratchy with arousal. The moment was nothing like I'd feared. It was nervous but somehow natural. Sweet. I nestled against his shoulder and watched his hand, wondering what his cock must feel like...surely as hot as the cheek pressed to mine. But I wasn't ready for the tease to end and real exploration to begin.
Just wow.
Seriously...I'm in awe of this book.
Cara McKenna is one of the most awe-inspiring authors out there in the erotica field. There aren't enough words to explain how reading her books make me feel. She pushes boundaries and never quite ends up where I think she will in a book.
Didier and Caroly are a must read. Exploration and sex is only part of the story. It's about learning someone inside and out, accepting everything about that person and falling in love despite the situations given.
The writing is so lyrical that it will leave you breathless and humbled by the characters. (less)

What an amazing book. Laughing, crying, aching for the hero...those are a few choice words for the book. I couldn't get over how amazingly fluid the story was and how much Cade needed someone to see the real man inside, underneath his armor.
Makenna was that woman.
Setting the majority of a book in one setting...especially one like an elevator...is a very hard thing to do. Especially when you have to keep the story rolling forward. Would this have worked if it was a straight erotic story in the elevator? Probably, but Mz Kaye went one step further and let us feel the awful pain of her hero, let him feel the passion, the mutual respect that came from a game of twenty questions and getting to know someone that maybe you wouldn't have normally given the time of day.
Using senses other than sight to make the attraction and chemistry come alive is a special talent. And let me tell you, Laura Kaye has it.

I read this badboy in ONE night. The equivalent of about 280 pages-ish. (kindle) yeah...it's one of THOSE books. A truly must read for the Cari Quinn fan. The pace is so fast, the angst and passion run neck and neck between these characters. It's hard to pull off a book with 2 strong main chars but Cari does it pretty much every time.
Spencer's control issues bashing heads with Kelly's ability to slot people into certain personal goals and move on is carefully and seamlessly weaved into a story that will grab you by the throat and NOT let go.
What I love about this story is how effectively they grow and screw up in equal fashion. Cari's not afraid to show the bad side to a character and I love her for it. And this one goes in my re-read 3x's pile already.
Let me just start by saying, you'd BEST be writing the cousin's books---esp Zack. There--now that I've got that over with! GAH!!! Ooooooh Gabe,...moreMs. Hart
I love a tortured hero and Gabe was certainly that. Even tho it's a novella and you don't truly know what damaged this man so completely, it's all right--maybe it's even best that you don't know EVERYTHING about him. I think it adds to the mystery and as a reader, I put myself in Lily's shoes even more.
And the ending was a complete *SIGH*
SEXY HOT SWEET and my FAVORITE kind of Hero---a little grouchy, a little edgy, and a whole lot of marshmallow when it comes to that RIGHT woman.

But understand this...I always read them one more time after the editors and copyeditors get their hands on them. Right after I get it on my Kindle I crack my knuckles and settle down because I know I won't be going anywhere.
This one was a real treat for me. Some of you may not know that this is actually the very first book in Cari's arsenal. You can say thank you to Rachel and Shawn and Ryan for putting Cari on this path to writing. And while they went through a few different incarnations this was the story that finally told the story as it should have been told.
Sweet, sexy as hell--the elevator scene alone will stay with you for AGES, and chock full of emotion that only Cari can do. It takes a special talent to draw this reader in and punch me in the gut without making my teeth ache from over-sweetness. Schmaltzy is something that's FAR too easy to put into a romance. Cari never does that. Even at her sweetest, there's this knowledge that few writers can capture. Knowing her characters and taking them where THEY need to go, not where the writer(or even where the reader)thinks it should go.
She's taught me that as a writer and most assuredly as a reader.
Read this one.
You won't regret it. Even if you want to strangle Rachel a few times. ;)(less)

and i gotta say, Rogan is so the prototype for Roarke in the ID series. lol that makes me love him just a little bit more.
even though this book is from the mid 90's it's somehow not dated. i love everything about this book from the characters to the lovely and amazing setting of ireland.
i can't say enough about this book. i've read it at least seven times and own the audio book. it's just one of my favorite comfort reads and i swear it's the reason why i write snarky characters. it's all Maggie's fault, and i love her for it.(less)

the reader does a great job with Cat's voice, but i was NOT happy with her Bones voice unfortunately. i think i would have loved it even more....and hello, 5 stars....if Bones' accent was either done with another narrator in harmony like a lot of audio books are doing, or she used another inflection in her voice.
but other than that, the story was solid. Cat's got issues out the waaaaaazzzoo, but it fits in the story. being a half-breed is tough and she's had to make a lot of concessions in her life, especially when it comes to her mother. trust doesn't come easy and Frost makes a point of easing you into the relationship.
the storyline is well done and the supporting cast makes for a very interesting read. i'm glad i finished the book, even if i had to do it via an audio book. on a personal front, it made painting much more exciting as i'm getting my new house ready to move in.
i'm very excited for book 2. i can't wait to see just how Bones and Cat find their way through the next story. not to mention there's another spin off series going on with a few of the secondary characters.
the only good thing about being behind in a series is that i get to move onto book 2 without waiting.

It was dealt with very openly. It's a role-playing thing, and the gruff, Flynn with his no-nonsense personality suits his role that's for damn sure. I sucked this down in about 2 1/2 hrs and loved it. The characterizations, the dialogue, the growth and demons that Laurel's character brought to the story, all of it was well done.
It's all in Laurel's POV, which almost annoyed me, until I fell for Michael Flynn through her eyes. Though unconventional, this book made me think and connect with Laurel in a way I haven't done with a character in a really long time. REALLY great job by Cara McKenna.(less)

Parker was looking for it all along, just kept herself too busy to let herself long for it more more than a minute. watching her best friends find their mister rights and the ever off kilter feeling she has around Malcolm served for a fun tale. i sucked it down in one day. i love all these characters, but Parker and Mal have been my faves the entire time.
i'm so glad they got a great book as a sendoff.

Brian...just....MAN alive. This book was so steamy and overwhelming. Brian owns his own Tattoo/Piercing parlor and loves to cultivate his slacker reputation, but in reality he works hard and LOVES to play hard.
Add in Sunshine, aka Candace, she's young and has never been in love with anyone but Brian. Those feelings are as overwhelming as her overbearing parents.
Utter combustion.
Is the story completely perfect? No. Is it character driven and makes you remember a time when love is as overwhelming and mind-bending as a blinding orgasm? Oh yeah, baby.
I'll be looking for more from Ms. Lynn, that's for sure.(less)

There's a realness to these two that draws you right into the heart of their problem. How often do you realize you've fallen in a rut in your relationship? And in a scramble, you look into a dozen different reasons to try to spice up your bedroom.
But what if your guy thinks all your changes are because you aren't in love with him instead?
Well, lemme tell ya, Cosmo doesn't cover that in their tips, I'll tell you that right now!
Cari does a great job in showing the reality of just what can happen when you let a lack of communication snowball into frustration, and lack of faith. Good thing these two realize that it's never too late to talk or moan things out with a little honesty, a little bravery, and a whole lot of sweat. (less)
