It was an emotional roller coaster, filled with despair and hopelessness but the characters still pressed on for survival. The supposed taboo issue was nonexistant for me, they were in an extreme circumstance and really the Heroine did no wrong. The after story felt real, leaving out the glossed over version that I've read countless time. All in all that's what makes this such a wonderful story the "realness" of the situation. This one is a keeper!(less)

But that's exactly what I felt when the book ended...I wanted more than what the author gave me. Lindsey's character was okay, her reasoning for her actions seemed justified. I was not impressed with the clan, yes--I understand that they were young, of low rank and dirty poor but good lord people get over it. The previous books gave the impression that the Kalquorians were a proud, strong race of men that didn't base decisions on material possessions. Yet this is precisely what the clan did. The story just felt empty with no purpose to the series as a whole. The immediate plot (if you want to call it that) was resolved, there was a HFN ending and there was lots of kinky alien sex....so I can't be too picky I suppose. However I was extremely let down, especially after the last one in this series was a bigger mess. Oh well, time to find a new series of alien kinkiness.(less)

In a esscence the book was dark, twisted and down right gritty. Lydia, the heroine, was the only weak point for me. I didn't connect with her as deeply as I did with the hero, Joe. Yes, there were certain scenes (holy mother of god--the coffin scene!)that I truely felt awful for her but there were other times I wanted to say, "You brought that on yourself you stupid girl!" IMO she was more screwed up than the writer let on, her submissive behavior was contradictory to her being this supposed bad ass with phenomenal fighting skills. I understand that she was tortured into submission yet Lydia craved it even after she escaped. The only thing about Joe that confused me was why he didn't just tell Lydia about all this crap rather than have her guess. I don't know it was good and I will recommend it to all my dark and twisted friends.(less)

Since there are few pros than cons, I'll start with the positives.
Pros: The writing was sound and it was free. I've encountered many freebies that are just awful in this area.
Cons: I didn't like the characters...like at all. Chloe was beyond annoying and there were times I was seriously cheering for her to fail. In the beginning she describes Jason has a fake Ken doll with really dry skin but after watching his movies, the naive little girl has an epiphany that she's in love with him. Sounds like true love. Jason was not as bad but he left a lot to be desired. Matthew was a judgemental holy roller, Lori was shallow and Kyra needed to be slapped.
All in all the story wasn't bad but it wasn't my cup of tea either. The story felt like a chick lit/young adult crossbred without all the teenage agnst or drama. Will I read the book again?...No. Would I recommend this book to people?...Maybe. It would depend what your looking for. If your wanting chick lit fluff, with little or no offensive material, no steamy scenes but the here is a big shot superstar then I would say yes. But if you are looking for something other than marshmellows and cotton candy then my answer would be no. Like I said it's not a bad book, it just wasn't what I wanted it to be.

I went into it thinking that this was going to be a paranormal romance and I knew that it would be fabulous because everything "Poppet" writes is praise worthy. Holy mother of god! (or should I say Erra?) What I got was soooooo much more than a pathetic label. The story kicks you in your teeth from the get go, starting with our heroine being stalked by a former co-worker's son and a hulking mystery man steps in to save the day. From that point on, the plot wheels are spinning at full speed and Mistress Poppet burns her addictive branding over our hearts. I was absolutely floored at the richness of her research, proof that she takes her craft serious. I've taken many theology classes and it was thrilling to see some of the same context used in the story.
Point blank---I'm reading story number two today. Loved this story!!(less)
