Since there are few pros than cons, I'll start with the positives.
Pros: The writing was sound and it was free. I've encountered many freebies that are just awful in this area.
Cons: I didn't like the characters...like at all. Chloe was beyond annoying and there were times I was seriously cheering for her to fail. In the beginning she describes Jason has a fake Ken doll with really dry skin but after watching his movies, the naive little girl has an epiphany that she's in love with him. Sounds like true love. Jason was not as bad but he left a lot to be desired. Matthew was a judgemental holy roller, Lori was shallow and Kyra needed to be slapped.
All in all the story wasn't bad but it wasn't my cup of tea either. The story felt like a chick lit/young adult crossbred without all the teenage agnst or drama. Will I read the book again?...No. Would I recommend this book to people?...Maybe. It would depend what your looking for. If your wanting chick lit fluff, with little or no offensive material, no steamy scenes but the here is a big shot superstar then I would say yes. But if you are looking for something other than marshmellows and cotton candy then my answer would be no. Like I said it's not a bad book, it just wasn't what I wanted it to be.

I went into it thinking that this was going to be a paranormal romance and I knew that it would be fabulous because everything "Poppet" writes is praise worthy. Holy mother of god! (or should I say Erra?) What I got was soooooo much more than a pathetic label. The story kicks you in your teeth from the get go, starting with our heroine being stalked by a former co-worker's son and a hulking mystery man steps in to save the day. From that point on, the plot wheels are spinning at full speed and Mistress Poppet burns her addictive branding over our hearts. I was absolutely floored at the richness of her research, proof that she takes her craft serious. I've taken many theology classes and it was thrilling to see some of the same context used in the story.
Point blank---I'm reading story number two today. Loved this story!!...more

Yet halfwayThis is going to be a really hard review to write. The writing was beautiful, characters were top notch and the research completely sound. Yet halfway through the book I found myself having problems finishing it. Lilit/Sarah is a grade A character but I couldn't relate to her at all, she was just too perfect for me. The possessiveness that Erra had for her in the first book was gone from this one as well. I just couldn't get excited about the ending to the book, there was a HEA of sorts but there was no romantic HEA. I don't even want to discuss Dustin or the hippie squad. This guys were just too effin peace, love and walk into the light for me. *Sigh* The book deserves a five star review from me...really it does. Everything was at it should be. Poppet if you read these reviews please don't think your work is anything other than gold star. I'm just a person who likes flawed characters.
See I told you this was a hard review for me. Under normal circumstances I either love a book, hate a book or I find it mediocre. I can't put this book in any of those categories. My reasoning for giving it a four star review is this: the writing deserves a five but the story left a strange taste in my mouth. I probably should have given the book three stars yet that didn't seem justified to me. Despite my review I would still recommend this book for anyone to read. ...more

It was a freebie on Amazon and I wasn't expecting much from a freebie. I must also tell you that I am not a fan of historicals for the most part. However this story was a delight, from the vivid details in the scenes to the oh-so-yummy hero, Daniel. The heroine, Amiee was enjoyable as well with the only thing that bothered me about her was that she supposedly had all this knowledge on backpacking through the wilderness yet she early on stumbled upon a bear. The love scenes were not overly descriptive, so if this is a issue for you than I would rate this one maybe a 2 1/2 or 3 on a 5 point scale of hotness factor. Of course that scale is based on my opinion, you may find it higher or lower depending on your tastes. The attraction between the main characters was believable and rich. So many times have I read a book were the atrraction was forced.
Overall I would recommed this book to anyone who likes time travel romances or if you are like me, on a budget and just looking for something to read.

In a esscence the book was dark, twisted and down right gritty. Lydia, the heroine, was the only weak point for me. I didn't connect with her as deeply as I did with the hero, Joe. Yes, there were certain scenes (holy mother of god--the coffin scene!)that I truely felt awful for her but there were other times I wanted to say, "You brought that on yourself you stupid girl!" IMO she was more screwed up than the writer let on, her submissive behavior was contradictory to her being this supposed bad ass with phenomenal fighting skills. I understand that she was tortured into submission yet Lydia craved it even after she escaped. The only thing about Joe that confused me was why he didn't just tell Lydia about all this crap rather than have her guess. I don't know it was good and I will recommend it to all my dark and twisted friends....more

The religious undertones was phenomenal and well researched. I also thought that it was an interesting approach to the whole angels, demons, vampyres lore--a breath of fresh air. The supporting characters were well done and I'm interested in where some of them my go in the series. The hero (Seithe) was a bit off his rocker at first and the heroine (Phoebe) wasn't my favorite but the story itself more than made up for it.
Pros: well researched folklore (unlike most paranormal books), very detailed descriptions-you could almost feel like you were there, fabulous price and no gaps in plot or story.
Cons: slow beginning, heroine was too easily swayed (in my opinion)
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is tired of reading the same old thing in paranormal books or anyone who like christian folklore. I will be reading more of this author for sure....more

The plot reminded me of "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells or the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (aka the short story "A Farewell to Master" by Harry Bates), so the plot has been done countless times. I know what you're going to say, why wouldn't you then recommend this for scifi romance lovers--simply due to the fact that there were aliens involved but they were humans by another name. They looked like us in all aspects, nothing was nonhumaniod except their language. Anyway getting back on task here, the heroine was enjoyable with believable reactions to her circumstances. The supporting characters were alittle two dimensional and I wish I could have gotten to know Alec's character better. All in all, it was a decent story and glad I took the time to read it....more

But that's exactly what I felt when the book ended...I wanted more than what the author gave me. Lindsey's character was okay, her reasoning for her actions seemed justified. I was not impressed with the clan, yes--I understand that they were young, of low rank and dirty poor but good lord people get over it. The previous books gave the impression that the Kalquorians were a proud, strong race of men that didn't base decisions on material possessions. Yet this is precisely what the clan did. The story just felt empty with no purpose to the series as a whole. The immediate plot (if you want to call it that) was resolved, there was a HFN ending and there was lots of kinky alien sex....so I can't be too picky I suppose. However I was extremely let down, especially after the last one in this series was a bigger mess. Oh well, time to find a new series of alien kinkiness....more

However while I am loving the series, I don't like how short these stories are. Yes I know these are novellas so don't throw rocks or shoot me with laser beams. What can I say I start to become entranced in the story and bam, it stops...perhaps maybe that's the point. Anyways other than my nit pickiness with the length I liked the story. Adam was fantastic, not a super fan of heroine...but that could be a jealousy issue. I can't wait for number three!...more

It was an emotional roller coaster, filled with despair and hopelessness but the characters still pressed on for survival. The supposed taboo issue was nonexistant for me, they were in an extreme circumstance and really the Heroine did no wrong. The after story felt real, leaving out the glossed over version that I've read countless time. All in all that's what makes this such a wonderful story the "realness" of the situation. There were times I seriously found myself laughing at the brickering between Jason and Haley. The story wasn't heavy with drama or angst in the slightest but considering the heavy stories I've been reading as of late, this fluffy, feel-good book was what I needed. I did find the severe obsession Jason had with sugary sweets downright frightening and someone should've suggested professional help. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, it should be fun....more
