I judged a book by it’s cover this time and it paid off.
When it comes to my romance novels, I want a story line to go with everything else. I want a hero who sweeps our lady off her feet, both literally and physically, I want love to go with the attraction to each other. In books that aren’t part of a series, I want a HEA every single time.
Now this one in the description on Amazon says that this is A Romantica® western erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave. And it is, but it feels like so much more. There’s this guy named Hawk, who is amazing. Strong in body, mind, and spirit, handsome, giving, he is completely swoon worthy. Our heroine is so likable. Jo is one of those ladies that you root for. You want her to get the guy, especially since (obviously) you can’t have him. Loved the characters.
With the way the book started and with the description on Amazon calling it an erotic romance, I honestly was thinking it was just going to be a wham, bam, thank you ma’am type of thing but there is more to it.
Hawk is going on my list of imaginary boyfriends.
I have to mention, I loved his father Ray too. He’s not going on my list of imaginary boyfriends, but he was fun.
I also loved all of the Native American traditions and spirituality Kendall used. That added something that kicked the book up a notch. It’s not something you can just throw willy nilly into a book without knowing what you are talking about. That was really neat.
The book is fast paced, I read it in a couple of hours with interruptions from my children.
The only thing that I would want from this book, and again this is typical of me and the romance books I love, more. I could have had so much more. It’s a good thing.
If you like your romance novels with the perfect recipe of hot guy (who never made himself available before) + beautiful woman (who doesn’t think she should) + drama that could tear them apart, then Thunderstruck is for you.(less)

Hot. Hot. Hot.
There didn’t even have to be a love scene for this book to be hot. Don’t fret. There was some steamy moments. (Not a YA book)
Is it bad I was hoping her husband would do something that would open the way for her to be able to be with David?
Probably.
There’s this line here that I’m nervous about crossing with my review. It’s that most marriages don’t stay hot like they are in the beginning. They settle into a routine and you have jobs, and kids, and you have to work to keep the romance alive. Then again, I’ve been divorced. It didn’t work out. No matter how hard we tried. It just didn’t.
Olivia. Olivia. If you were my best friend what would I tell you? I would probably tell her to stay away from David and concentrate on her husband.
The book was so good at relaying her feelings, the guilt just at having these feelings, the questions she was having regarding her own marriage, jealousy, and the attraction between her and David.
Jessica Hawkins, I love you.
Amazing book. Amazing story. Amazing chemistry. I couldn’t wait to dive into the next one. Speaking of which, I happened to have read right after I finished this one.(less)

Don’t judge. I can’t help it. The chemistry is huge between these two. I was still hoping that her husband would do something, anything, so that she would have an excuse to run away and be with David. Man. He’s too straight laced. Her husband, not David.
Love love loved this book!
Just as much as the first one.
So good.
Even hotter.
The story was wonderful, I was completely sucked in from beginning to end.
And the end.
Oh Jessica.
What you do to my heart!
There had better be a book 3.
I’m just saying. No pressure. I need a book 3.
Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous!
If you love your romance novels with an actual story line mixed in with your (hot steamy) love scenes, this is the series you want to read next.
Loved.

I was drawn to the cover.
What hot blooded female wouldn’t be?
They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover but I think it’s safe to say with SEAL of Honor you can. It was filled with military type situations, a hostage who needs saved, drudging through the jungles of Columbia, guerrillas, fighting, danger, our hero fighting his attraction to our heroine, and a couple of love scenes. (On a rating scale I would rate it comfortable to read in front of my grandma – I didn’t say to. Then again, my grandma read some books that made me blush.) Then, when you think it’s all going to wrap up? There’s more danger. This last bit was nagging at the back of my mind and I would have been disappointed if Tonya hadn’t wrapped up that last little detail. She didn’t forget it. Wrapped it up nice and neatly with an HEA. I was happy.
I hate unfinished business.
I can’t wait for her to release more of this series. At least I assume there is more to come. There are quite a few more guys to explore and I have to say while I’m interested to see how Quinn’s story is going to turn out, I kind of can’t wait to see Ian’s. I have always had a thing for the bad boys, both in my romance books and in my real life.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of SEAL of Honor in exchange for an honest review. (less)

Residual hauntings are
{…repeated playbacks of auditory, visual, olfactory, and other sensory phenomena that are attributed to a traumatic event, life-altering event, or a routine event of a person or place, like an echo or a replay of a videotape of past events.}
This would be vs an intelligent haunting where the spirit seems to be intelligently answering questions, maneuvering objects, etc.
I LOVE the paranormal, the supernatural, anything that has to do with spirits, being aware of what is around us that we can’t see, the stuff that science can’t prove. That means this book is right up my ally.
Relatively Dead takes that phenomenon and adds a twist. I enjoyed it. I agree with a couple of Amazon reviews that it really seemed to end quickly and there could have been more (especially when exploring the relationship between Abby and Ned), but it was good. There was quite a bit of time in the book where she was hunting down genealogy info and I found that interesting. I really want to finish our family tree, to know where we come from, but I get past my great-grandparents and I get overwhelmed. I loved it when she unwrapped another little nugget and pieces started flowing together, tying in this and that, and connecting this person with that person.
I also loved reading some more of the history of that area. I’m from the midwest but I have always been in love with New England. I don’t know why, I’ve never been there. I dream of going to Boston and Salem someday. I want to get out and explore and here those stories first hand.
I really didn’t see there being a huge mystery here. I’m assuming that the mystery was finding out what tore her family apart or maybe it was why this was happening to her.
All in all it was a good book that I read in one setting.

After reading it, I have to say, The Big, Not-So-Small, Curvy Girls, BBW Romance, Dating Agency was really fun, and as a *ahem* curvier girl, I was happy to dig into it.
You know what I learned from reading this book?
While I realize that there are plenty of confident BBWs and there are lots of slender women with self esteem issues, seriously, we are annoying with our lack of confidence.
That didn’t make the book bad. It just highlighted the problem for me because I do the exact same thing with my husband, the man who kinda liked me enough to marry and have children with me.
I have always had issues with self esteem, skinny and bulimic or curvy and fighting my weight without throwing up my food, it was just really interesting seeing those same words/actions that I have come out of our heroine’s mouth. I’m sitting here going, get over it, you’re beautiful, he likes you, obviously, stop putting yourself down already. Now I know why it drives my husband batty.
The only thing I don’t do is tell him how astonished I am that a man like him would want to be with a girl like me.
He’s already confident enough.
No need to give him a big head. :)
Back to the book.
I loved it. My only complain is was over too quickly. (Not meaning it’s a short book. I read it in about 1 hour and 40 minutes or so. I wanted more, a bigger HEA. Don’t get me wrong, there was a good HEA. I just wanted more and felt it just ended too quickly.
That’s the sign of a good book.
You don’t want it to end.
But alas, all good things must come to an end and now I want the rest of the series.

How to do the review without spoilers because some of the characters are not mentioned by name in the blurb?
I loved Mismatch. It is another one I would put on my list of books to take to the beach with me for an afternoon of reading while getting a tan, if it wasn’t raining constantly in Iowa right now. That list is going to be renamed to my list of books TBR while staring out at the rain pouring down AGAIN. While it is light reading, there is still a little mystery (there has to be, Eli is an art authenticator who consults for the FBI), a smidge of deception (technically the whole romance is built on deception from the beginning), a couple of really steamy scenes (that I wouldn’t let my teenager read ), and a HEA to wrap it all up.
More or less, I would say this is one of those perfect romance books where the hero is hot and a little mysterious, the woman is beautiful and is being deceived, and the romance all comes together the way it should.
Nana Malone, I can’t wait to read Game, Set Match and then see what comes next for you!

Why do my favorite authors do that to me?
That’s why they are my favorites, they leave me wanting more whether it’s the next in a series or the next stand alone book to be released.
Back to the review.
Andrea, Andrea, Andrea. Man. That was so so so good. I’m sorry I’ve waited this long to read it.
I do not like to do spoilers, so I won’t, but I have to say, I did not see that [ending] coming. I was sure it would go one direction, then I was clueless. Who was the good guy? Who was the bad? I’m not telling but it surprised me.
I can’t even tell you who I was rooting for because then you’d know it was the other one because I was completely taken by surprise.
I LOVE it when books do that to me. I read so much that a lot of the times, even though I end up loving the book and even though others were surprised by the ending, I can usually predict within the first couple of chapters who is going to be the bad guy. Andrea, thank you for keeping it a secret for most of the book who was going to be the bad guy. It kept me twisting back and forth, saying I bet it’s him, no wait, I kind of like him more, oh, Adam or Carter, who is it???
Awesome writing, not too fluffy, not too heavy, great suspense, who knows who done it cuz I sure didn’t, and an ending that leaves you salivating for the next book (coming out soon I hear), what more could you ask?
5 stars from me Andrea! You did awesome! Thank you for that fun ride!(less)

I seem to be on a fun fast romantic read quick lately, which is all good with me. I love my romance. Especially when there is a vampire involved.
I am having trouble coming up with my overall thoughts on this book and I am not sure why. I liked the story. I really did. I think it might be that to me, a couple of the conversations felt forced, not natural. I don’t know, they didn’t flow naturally like the rest of the book did. That is what bumped it down from a 4 star book to a 3 1/2 for me.
That being said, I really did enjoy the book. It was filled with romance, our heroine was not a stick thin Barbie, she was a real girl, with real curves, and real insecurities like the rest of us. Our hero just happened to be an ancient vampire who preferred his girls with the curves that were cherished way back when instead of our itty bitty waisted models that we all want to be today.
I liked the ending. I liked the couple of twists on vampirism that Candace threw in. I enjoyed it overall and am glad I took the time to read it.

Four weren't worth the time it took me to read them and then I found a little gem that was published 2 years ago and is free at the time of the posting, Stripped Defenseless.
Starting off, this is definitely not a book for the under 18 crowd. Lots of steamy moments right from the first couple of pages. Lots o’ heat in this book.
I loved it. Obviously it was a fast read if I read it along with 4 other books today. 204 pages in total.
I wouldn’t technically call what Ava is dealing with Stockholm Syndrome. She technically liked her captor, A LOT, before he captured her.
What is about the tall strong alpha man that has your average female turned into a drooling mess on the floor? I’m talking us as the readers, not the main character. I don’t know about you, but logically, I don’t care how hot you are, I don’t think I would ever put up with what some of the lead females in my favorite books do. Ask my husband, he’s good looking, 6”2’, Latino, well built, he knows what I’ll put up with and what I won’t put up with. I’m rarely a puddle of drool on the floor. (I probably should be, shouldn't I?)
Yet here I am reading about Kade, a man who is paid to kidnap and deliver his targets, one of which is our sweet little Ava, and saying yummy.
Gah.
What is that?
Any men reading this post, if you’d like to give me your thoughts on that subject, I’d love to hear them.
Back to my review.
I had my normal” how can someone fall in love that fast and know it’s going to last” thoughts as it became apparent where this was going, but I pushed it aside for that love at first sight we all want to believe in. It’s a hard fast romance novel, there is no time for my normal reservations I would have in real life.
Steamy, fun, fast read with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming at all.
I’m not telling.
It didn’t break my heart because I didn’t believe the author would do that to us. I know some authors would, but I had faith this book wasn’t going to end that way.
I was happy when it was over, not that it was over, but that it ended the way I hoped.
I hate sad endings. Always always want a HEA (happily ever after).(less)

I love romances that make me sigh when I’m done.
I believe it’s about 200 pages and it took me about two hours to read. Lucky for me I started it after bedtime, no little interruptions, because I didn’t want to put it down.
Simply put it is a sweet romance between a vampire and a human with a couple of very nice steamy love scenes. It reads quickly and it’s fun. Perfect for a few hours lounging on the beach or in your backyard, just soaking up the sun, since Noah really shouldn’t.
I actually didn’t read the blurb first (I rarely do with review books, if a title or cover interests me, I’m in.), just saw the cover and started reading. I can say, it went the way I thought it would with a little fight scene thrown in that I didn’t expect, between people I didn’t expect.
I loved it and I be happy to step into Alice’s place and be stuck on a cruise ship with Noah.
The only thing more I would want from this book would be, well, more. I could have read this for even longer, been sucked into this romance and happily stayed there for awhile. That’s not unusual for me when I get done with a book whose characters I really liked. You just wish you could unread it and start it all over again.
I’m assuming/hoping that there will be more books to come with stories about Alex, Chance, and maybe even Kane. I could also see a book about Andrew, Alice’s brother, and his (could she possibly come back to be) fiance, Olivia. (Promise, that’s not a spoiler. Andrew’s not a main character in this book, just casually mentioned and Olivia is naturally brought up with his name.
I would definitely recommend this book if you’re looking for a fun romance novel with a little vampire twist. It’s not too heavy, won’t take you a week to finish, and you’ll end it wishing you had a Noah in your life.(less)

It’s fast moving, it’s fun, and there’s a feisty grandma, I mean really, who doesn’t like a feisty grandma? We got a lot of Lizzie’s personality right in those first few moments.
Then I got to a scene, still in the beginning (no spoilers, don’t worry, I hate spoilers), where Lizzie acts really out of what I have learned to be her character so far.
That bothered me.
That one scene continued to stay with me for the first quarter of the book. Just that one moment. That really was the only time she stepped out of what I felt the author was trying to portray as Lizzy. It did keep me on guard as I waited for more things like that.
Maybe it was intentional? Maybe when she started coming into her own at the moment, she gave us a little taste of what she was truly supposed to be like as a demon slayer? I don’t know.
Once I let my guard down, knowing there wasn’t going to be another big out of character moment that would leave me wondering if I was really going to like this book, I pretty much loved it. I’m still a bit iffy on the laboratory scene. I’m not sure that’s how I would picture this particular scenario, in fact I’m sure I wouldn’t, but it all gelled together. (Read it yourself and then tell me what you thought of that particular scene.) I think I actually would have liked a little bit more menacing evil in that one scene. Just up the fear a tad.
Seeing as this is the first in the series, I have high hopes for the next books, and I am definitely going find them all to read them.
I have to add, I want a griffin. I really think every girl needs their own personal Dimitri to protect, adore, and love them. I loved Dimitri and I loved the Red Skull ladies, and I really liked Lizzie, minus that one moment in the bathroom in the beginning of the book.
I’m definitely going to read the rest of the series just for Dimitri and grandma.
I was hmmmming and hawing back and forth between 3 and 4 stars due to the issues that bothered me above, then I weighed it against Dimitri and grandma who I enjoyed so much, and that pushed it back up to 4.(less)

I do not know a lot about the monarchy in England or it’s history. I know some of the more recent history, recent being the last 300 years or so, and I have heard of all the male characters’ names that make up the monarchy in this book. Knowing the names and knowing the history are two different things.
May I say what an exquisite way to learn history?
Now, I know that these books are fiction, in a way, but the majority of the characters existed in history, a lot of the rumors that these stories are written around have been passed down from history. Ellen Jones took all of those moments and wove these intricate tales of intrigue and romance and deceit and conspiracies and it was amazing how it all lined up with the major events in history.
How do I know they lined up with history?
I kept spoiler alerting myself.
I had to Google all the characters and read their actual history. I don’t recommend doing that if you don’t know the history between, say, Stephen of Blois and Empress Maud. I was upset that their relationship did not end the way I hoped it would, but alas, you can’t change history. Bummed myself out when I found out the ending to their story before I got to that part in the book. Don’t do that.
During a lot of the book I was thinking how lucky I was to be born in my time and not back then. Seriously. I have no royal blood in me, but that wouldn’t have mattered back then. Parents arranged their daughters’ marriages based on how that marriage would help their family. I’m not so sure I would have been easy to handle back then seeing as hard hard I was to deal with in the 90’s and rules were a lot less strict for girls then. (Though, I think my parents were stricter than my friends. Love you mom!)
If I had to choose a favorite book out of all 3, it would be The Fatal Crown, the story of Empress Maud. History says that there were rumors about Maud and Stephen of Blois’ relationship and Ellen did a wonderful job jumping off of those rumors. I loved the other two books as well, but that one pulled at my heart the most.
When you put all three books together, there are 1800 + pages. Not light reading. It is wonderful reading though. It took me about six days to read it but I read really fast. Now that I am done with that, as much as I enjoyed it, and as much as I want to see if Ellen Jones has more books out, I need a little light, fluffy, happy reading next.

I remember hearing of Jessica’s kidnapping and following the story until finally she was brought home. I was thankful, relieved, and amazed that SEAL Team Six got in and got the job done. That was honestly the first time I had ever really heard of that group of our military men by that name that I can remember.
I don’t know if I have a understandable explanation for why I follow stories like these on the news but I will try. It’s not the train wreck affect. Not at all. It’s the fact that these people are going through something horrendous and they may be sitting there wondering if anyone back home is even worried about them. They are isolated from the world. How would they know? To me, they are important. I will never meet them, they will never know that I cried for them, I prayed for them, but I hope that somehow they realize that they are important, not just to their loved ones, but to the rest of us back home or in other countries as I would be to Poul, the man who was kidnapped with her.
There are no spoilers here, we know Jessica was rescued, so I can freely admit that I cried while reading where she first realized that the American military was there for her. I was riding the emotional roller coaster, I knew the beginning and the end, but I didn’t know the middle, exactly what she went through. It was hard. I don’t know how she survived it. You read of someone in those moments, and you wonder could you survive? My first instinct is probably not, my second? I would have to. I have 4 kids waiting for me at home. There isn’t a choice but trying to survive.
The heroes of the book, SEAL Team Six, may you never have them on your tail. After the killing of Osama Bin Laden, everyone in the world, or at the very least in the USA, knows who Seal Team Six is. How many Americans are glad they are on our side? I am.
I cried at another point in the book. I have the ebook, so I’m not sure where these are at in the print version, but the pictures at the end. I had tears. They were beautiful and spoke volumes about how Jessica and Erik are thriving now, one in particular, but I’ll let you look for yourself. That might be a spoiler and I don’t do spoilers.
Anthony Flacco did an amazing job getting Jessica and Erik’s story down on paper. It’s well written, it pulls you in, you don’t want to put it down until you get to the last page. I love biographies/non fiction that can keep my attention. I am slightly ADD and if it’s dry and boring at all, I can’t finish it. This was the opposite. It was excellently written to capture your interest and keep you tuned in to Jessica’s ordeal, her struggles, and finally her rescue.
Amazing book.
Amazing woman with an amazing husband and family. (I can’t help but love them all now.)
And the amazing SEAL team six.

I’m picky with the books I download for free. Less then 4 stars and I don’t grab them. I hate being disappointed with a book and 3 star books or less tend to leave me wishing I had listened to the other reviewers.
I thought when I was browsing through the books on my iPad, trying to figure out where to start today, that I was starting one of my review books (I had 10 of those sent to me today also).
I went to go leave feedback for the publisher and figured out it wasn’t one of my review books but I am SO glad I read it. So glad.
This book has an estimated 227 pages and I read them all in 3 hours. Could.Not.Put.It.Down.
So good.
Be forewarned: this book does have quite a few sex scenes (so it’s only for the adult readers out there) but there is this beautiful beautiful love story behind it. This story of conquering our pasts and both Chelsea and Xander have quite the pasts to conquer.
Those love scenes, let me borrow the title and something Xander says to Chelsea, breathe for me please. Hot hot hot! I caught myself not breathing a few times. Hot.
Xander has been moved to my fictional boyfriend shelf.
I feel a little guilty about putting him there because I really loved the character Chelsea. LOVED her. I was rooting for her. I was rooting for Xander. Even when he was a jerk at one point, I was rooting for Xander. I <3 Xander and Chelsea.
I cannot wait for Natalie’s next book in the series – Beg For Me – that’s Xander’s cousin’s Logan’s story. That might be an overdoing it on the possessive apostrophes I have going on in that sentence, and that my friends, is why I am not an editor.
Whether Breathe For Me is free when you read this review or not I highly recommend grabbing it. LOVE LOVE LOVED it!(less)

I have been reading romance books since I first found my grandma’s stash when I’d stay with her over the summer. She let me. Though I’m not sure she knew I was reading the steamier ones. I’m a sucker for a romance novel, man sweeps woman off feet, woman falls in love with man, they run off and live happily ever after.
I love me a gorgeous cowboy too. Worn jeans, broke in boots, cowboy hat, muscles, tan from being outdoors…..yum. I don’t want a rhinestone wanna be cowboy, a real ranch working, cattle herding, horse riding cowboy is what I’m talking about.
Shhh. Don’t tell my husband. He’s not a cowboy. And he won’t dress up like one either.
Back to the book. We have combined 2 of my favorite elements: romance + cowboys= Heather is going to automatically love the book.
And I did.
It’s a fast fun read. I finished it in a couple of hours Wednesday night.
I think Ethan and I would get along fabulously if he’s looking for a girl who knows nothing about ranch life but does know how to use technology. Those weren’t technically his qualifications for a wife, but you know.
Rob and Ethan, practical jokers, one outdoing the other with each new joke, but this one …. I couldn’t imagine someone doing this to me. Posting a video on YouTube for a wife wanted (or husband in my case). I would have melted into the floor and died.
Ethan, though, had this attraction to Autumn that didn’t let him put her back on the plane.
I’m glad he didn’t.
The only thing I didn’t like… the only thing that is making it a 4 star review for me… was the moment of unprotected sex. It kind of gives the message that unprotected sex works out to a happily ever after. I know why it was in the book, it was part of the story, and 20 years ago it wouldn’t have bothered me at all. In 2013, in the Teen Mom generation, with so many unwanted pregnancies, STDs, etc, that just rubbed me the wrong way. In a deeper, more serious book, one that could be about the serious things that come out of unprotected sex, I could understand. I just expect to see protection used in romance books, at the very least the first time, doctor check, I’m clean conversation, something. At least Autumn was worried after the fact and mentioned going to the doctor to get checked.
Other than that, loved the romance, loved the chemistry between all the characters, loved the story, loved the love scenes (not over the top, not erotica, but definitely there). It was a happily ever after book and I would gladly read the rest of the series.

Oh Scott, Scott, Scott, you always make me want to pull the covers over my head as I’m listening for things that go bump in the night. Doesn’t help that this time the dogs started going crazy while I was reading and there was no one at the door.
I never like to do spoilers so I am going to try to do this review without them, that’s tough cuz there is a lot of and this happened and this happened, I was so grossed out when I found out this character was cooking this, and OMG when this person ate this…. yeah, you got the point.
This book is filled with scary if you’re scared of flesh eating zombies that never die. The description in here was almost too much for my stomach to handle. Almost. I kept going. The visuals were painted nice and clearly. I love a good freaky could it actually happen scare (come on, we all have heard about the “zombies” laced on bath salts or whatever it was, it could happen, I think, maybe, who knows!) me type of book.
I think the cook was my favorite character.
He was humorous – in a freaky sort of way.
There are so many characters in this book that are woven together in an intricate way that makes sense and is needed in this type of book. Imagine a slasher film, you need a lot of disposable (yet they weren’t really disposable) characters for the slasher to eat kill.
Kind of twisted I know, but this book was fun, in a way that only zombie books can be fun.
Did it knock the red church (review here) off my list of favorite books by Scott?
No. That’s still my favorite. You have to have read that book to understand why nothing has yet knocked it off the top of my freaky book list yet. Find The Red Church on Amazon here .
It did however stick J.T. Warren on my list of authors I need to check out. He did an awesome job with this.
It was just a really awesome, scary, make me think twice about going camping story. Not that I ever went camping before but I am sending my 2 oldest kids off to camp this summer. Thinking twice about that now.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend reading this book while eating, which I attempted to do when I was in the middle of the book. I never did finish my supper that night. However, I would recommend for a night when you feel like wondering about every creak and moan in your house.
Scott and J.T. will leaving you wondering if that infection could possibly break out near you.(less)
