Well, maybe Doyle and Maggie's story, The Forbidden Rose but then, that wouldn't be fair to the others :) This will be my desert island series. Honestly, I could not be stranded on a desert island without this series. I read this series in publication order. The author states: "If you read the books in the order in which they were written, you're going to see the characters develop as they did in my own mind. You'll find out about them in the way I found out about them." That worked very well for me. TFR would be read first in chronological order, but the H, Doyle is in all of the books and I loved reading his story after getting glimpses of him that made me quite curious to get to know him better. This book, The Black Hawk, is Adrian (Hawk) and Justine's story. Hawk has also been in all the books and we watch him grow up. This book goes back and forth from when they first met to the current situation they find themselves in. I am not always a fan of that type of writing, but it worked in this book. This story really starts in TFR as that is where he first meets Justine. I HIGHLY recommend this series, it is not to be missed!(less)

The story was a bit dark and also a bit predictable, but still a great read, bonus points if you love scarred and tormented hero's. Of the 3 brothers that this series will revolve around, Sebastian, the hero for this book, is scarred by far the worst. The heroine in this story, Mary, was his childhood friend and she had saved the 3 brothers from certain death by their uncles hands. They felt they had no choice but to separate and run away for 10 years. When they do make their way back after 12 years, it is obvious they have had a horrible time of it. They crash the uncles ball by force and announce who they are. Mary is there with her fiance' and is the one who stands up and states that they ARE who they say they are. Of course there is a strong attraction between Sebastian and Mary, but of course he feels he looks like a monster and even though he is a rich Duke, she deserves more. ... yadda yadda, you know the rest :) I am very interested to read the next two stories, just to see the details of how the other brothers lived while they were separated. We get a deeper glimpse of what is going on with the Psy council. We also get a glimpse of Nikita Duncan that may change the way you see her. Max and Sophia, our H & h in this story are both horribly emotionally scarred although Sophia should not be because she is psy. They were a great pairing and a very suspenseful story. We get to see quite a bit of Luke and Sasha as well as Faith and Vaughn. Great addition to the series!(less)

The characters were all well written, and I loved the hero, Ash. I felt his pain over his feelings about his dyslexia. That part was very well written, having a close family member with the same degree of dyslexia, I know that the self esteem issues related to this can be devastating. Although I don't know how the author plans to have Ash do all his dukely duties without letting the whole Parliament or whomever, know about his inability to read. The biggest problem I had with the story was they spent way too much time at Parford Manor. Truly, I was going stir crazy there. Even when Ash left for a week in London, we did not go with him. We were stuck at the manor with Margaret. The rest of the series looks like it will be more interesting than this one. I will continue on. (less)

Grace is the daughter of a General and she has followed the beat of the drum at her fathers side. Diccan is gorgeous, sophisticated, suave.. you would think they had nothing in common, but this book is full of surprises about these two. There were subject matters in this book that just made me grind my teeth and want to rewrite the whole story. But Grace is a very strong heroine and is able to take on a lot more hurt than the average HR heroine can :) I am anxious to start the last book in this series for a few reasons... The first two books have been very well written and completely entertained, while drawing me into the story. I am also anxious to see how life is going for Olivia and Jack from the first book as well as Grace and Diccan. (less)

This book is going directly to my re-read/keepers shelf! I realize that there will probably be more books in this series, at least I HOPE so. There are still a few loose ends and I am quite sure Drake and hopefully Ian will have their own stories. I just hope we will still see all the other characters, especially Bea and the assortment of characters in Kate's employ. I am not going to go into what the story was about as there are so many good reviews here that I couldn't do them justice. I will say that the one thing that sets these books apart from others in the genre, at least to me, these stories focus on the heroines. That is they deeply focus on them and while you learn much about the heroes, they are definitely the secondary characters. I just can not say enough how in depth and incredible these heroines are written. I feel like I have three new best friends. (less)

I recognized some of the names of different people in the book, but it didn't click until the end that the 3 seamstress sisters were related to characters from the Carsington Brothers series. I won't give away which ones though :) The sensual tension and chemistry between the main characters is incredible, LC really knows how to write that so it completely draws you into the drama. I also loved the heroines 6 year old daughter Lucie. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out!! (less)

Not as good as the previous book Ruthless Heart but a good read just the same. I did not feel the immediate "love" between the h and H. In Ruthless Heart, we saw h/H fall in love slowly, in this book, it just states that they were courting, but we didn't see it. The best was seeing the bad guy get his due. He was also the bad guy in the previous book.(less)

It seems more can be learned about that situation by reading Wicked Nights With a Lover although this book can be a read alone and is part of a new series, I think somewhere it should state that the books are tied together. I felt as if I was missing something about her father and sisters. After researching this authors books, I discovered they are tied.
So, we meet Grier at a ball with her sister Cleo (Cleopatra) and Grier is hiding behind the plants listening to everyone gossiping about her, putting her down for her common/lowness. She overhears Prince Sevastian Maksimi discussing her with is cousin and he states that she is good to bed but not to wed. She proceeds to pour her glass of lemon water over his head. This book was rife with sexual tension between them from there on, and I will say the tension was written very well. Grier was just awesome, she held up her head high in the most horrible of circumstances and even though she knew what everyone thought about her. Sevastian was also awesome. You wanted to hate him at first, but came to understand him and sympathize with him over the way he felt he must do his duty. But oh my, what a hero he turned out to be ~sigh~ So I guess now I must go back and read the series The Penwich School for Virtuous Girls Mostly because I want to know Grier's back story, also because I loved this author's writing. This is the story of Jack/John, the 3rd missing child of Lord and Lady Exmoor, who was sent by his mother, Simone, with his sisters 20 years prior. She sent them with a locket for each of her daughters and for her son, the family ring of the Earls of Exmoor which belongs to the children's father. Simone's plan is to bring the children to her trusted un-named friend so she can get them safely out of Paris in the middle of the Revolution. In the first two books, the Grandmother is re-united with her granddaughters after finding out that they had not died in Paris. They are all still under the impression that the true heir, John, died of a fever. He is actually living under their noses as a highwayman whom we met in the first two books. Jack, has no idea that he is actually John. This is a great ending to the series, everyone winds up where they should be and Jack is reunited with the love of his life, Nicola. And of course the bad guy gets his due. (less)

This one is the story of Marianne, who was brought to the orphanage at the age of 5, rather than alerting her grandmother that she was alive. Grandmother finds out 20 years later that she is alive and begins a search for her. Meanwhile the Cousin who is now the Earl of Exmoor and also the one who sent her to the orphanage, is also looking for her. He however, wants her killed so that it will not come out that he was behind the deceptions. Lots of great romance and steamy goings on with yummy Lord Lambeth who has Marianne pegged as a thief. Great plot, great action and actually had me tear up at the end. I can't wait to read the final book about the son, John (who I believe is the highwayman Jack from both books!)(less)

We see Lady Chilton, Simone, packing up her three small children along with a locket for each of her daughters and for her son, the family ring of the Earls of Exmoor which belongs to the children's father. Simone's plan is to bring the children to her trusted un-named friend so she can get them safely out of Paris in the middle of the Revolution.
We meet Alexandra Ward, a wealthy American who runs the family Tea business, who arrives from America to London on business. She forced Sebastian, Lord Thorpe's man of business to bring her to his house so she can meet him and ogle his artifacts from India. Sparks fly between the two and he invites her to a ball. There she meets the Countess of Exmoor, who when she saw Alexandra, exclaimed "Simone" then dropped into a faint. From there, we find that the Countess believes that Alexandria might be her Granddaughter even though they all believed the children died in the Paris mobs. This leads to many attempts at Alexanders life as well as her "mothers". Her "mother" meanwhile is suffering from some type of mental illness, dementia or something and is talking of strange things. The Countess' daughter convinces Lord Thorpe that Alexandra is a fake who is out to cheat the countess from her money. He is trying to ignore the intense feelings he is developing for our h, and it all becomes quite intense when she is kidnapped and taken to a brothel. Whenever Alexandra and Sebastian Thorpe are together, it can get quite steamy and the passion between them is quite intense. I don't want to spoil the story, so I will refrain from giving away any more of the plot. I will say this story was quite different from the hundreds of historical romances I have read and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. (less)

Molly is running from some horrible men who include the step father, who are after a book that they want for nefarious purposes. Molly knows nothing about this book, but her little niece and nephew are filled with anxiety. While on a train headed for California, there is an accident that leaves many injured or dead. Molly was raised in a hospital and battlefield helping and assisting her father who was a doctor/surgeon/genius but never gave her what she needed as far as affection or love but she is a nurse with tremendous medical knowledge. So naturally she finds herself helping the wounded. She overhears that there will be a 300 dollar payment to the widows from the wreck and makes a sudden decision to claim that she is the fiance' to Hank who has been so terribly wounded that he is not expected to live. The preachers wife has a soft spot for Molly and the kids so she insists that her husband do the right thing and marry them even though Hank is in a coma. Brady shows up and when the Dr tries to amputate Hanks arm, Molly takes over and heals Hank. Brady realizes the whole marriage is a farce but blackmails Molly into coming to the ranch to take care of Hank and Jessica as she is pregnant again with twins and he fears for her life.
I will have to say that I liked this book even more than the first, Pieces of Sky The characters were so well developed that you were totally immersed in the story. I will say though that I found Brady annoying in this story. I don't usually like books with kids in them but the two in this broke my heart. Molly, when we got to know her, broke my heart. Hank, broke my heart. There was a scene about 3/4 into the book, where Hank found out the truth to the marriage. The way he "punished" her was so heartbreaking for both of them that I actually cried for them. Something I rarely do. All in all, this was a great story, with lots happening, a very bad, bad, sicko, bad guy, and an emotional twister. (less)

For one thing, unless I somehow missed it (which I doubt as I went over the first few chapters) MB never gave a solid description of the H Gervase. The only thing said was that he was tall, of good form, handsome and has silver eyes. Seriously, I need more than that for my visual. I NEED hair color and style.. really I do, at LEAST that. And again, another fake engagement. While I love that theme, after the 3rd time in a series, it gets old. I probably should not be reading these back to back, but I just want to get to Wolf's story and I just can't skip books in a series, too afraid of missing something important. There were so many, many similarities in each book that I keep having Déjà vu. Right down to what the H would say to the h while making love. (with the exception of Gervase as he said it in french) Also when they got to the real marriage proposal, they each got on bended knee and spouted very poetic lyrical words of love. Cute the first time, annoying after the 4th or 5th. And how convenient for them all to have these grotto's, summerhouses, woodcutters cottages.. etc nearby just when they want to ravage each other. It seems each book starts out very unique in the story line/plot, then in the middle and end its the same old, same old, been there, done that. Well I am very worried about Alleyne, he has disappeared from this book and is presumed dead. Of course we know he is not as the next book is his. I hope that one will be better and I am still so looking forward to getting to Wolf's. There was an interesting story line in this book that had to do with a woman that Wolf was about to become engaged to but the woman was supposedly ravaged by Gervase and caught at it by Wolf, her father and Gervase's father. I don't really believe in love at first sight, (lust at first sight, yeah, THAT I believe) but allowed myself to ignore my beliefs and just go with the flow of the relationship between Rose and Richard. Their relationship was really touching and sweet. I didn't think I would like Richard at first, when we were first shown him, he was dressed like a peacock complete with wig and makeup. Rose's thoughts at this first meeting were that he was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. I guess we are just so used to most modern authors of this period showing us what we modern day people would find appealing rather than as it actually was. This story felt to me like it was actually written in the late 1700's rather than a modern day author. I loved the very gothic feel and wonderful descriptions to this story as well as the well developed personalities of the characters. There were two big issues that Rose and Richard were dealing with. The first was the apparent tampering with a carriage that caused the deaths of Rose's cousins and Richards betrothal to Miss Cartwright in which she refused to break the engagement. I would loved to have given this 5 stars, but there were too many editing errors that made me have to stop and reread in order to understand what was trying to be said. Also with 2 Miss Cartwright's and too many Hareton persons I had to work too hard to figure out which they were talking about. The story was narrated in 1st person, which is something I actually like, but I know a lot of readers can't deal with that.(less)

I am happy I didn't skip, Mercy and Riley's story was great! Mercy is a Leopard with the Dark River pack and Riley is a wolf and a member of the Snow Dancer pack. Not only are they at odds with each other over this but they are also both alpha's. She is a sentinel and he a lieutenant. You can imagine the problems they face. Regardless of their problems, there was great, white hot heat between them that they were unable to ignore or deny. They just sizzled off the pages. Whew... (less)

He enlists the help of his friend Giles to introduce him to Lady Elinore, an older spinster who fits his list of qualifications, never mind that she is very stern, cold and only wears grey. At the ball, he sees Hope Merridew and is completely mesmerized by her. He fights his deep attraction to her as he thinks she is one of those spoiled ton society girls who would not know about hardship and therefore would not be able to deal with his sisters. ( who have had a very hard life) I loved Sebastian... loved how hard he had to fight (and didn't usually win) his emotions/feelings/lust for Hope. Sebastian had a very rough and dark life, you just want to hug him. He was my favorite type of hero... Big and tough, protective, honorable, did not see how wonderful he was, tormented... sigh... Hope felt this way about him as well. This book for me was a real page turner that I did not want to see end. There was a cute side story with Giles and Lady Elinore.(less)

1) Emotionally damaged hero 2) Bad boy / Rake 3) Gypsy 4) Strong spinster heroine who saves bad boy
It also had a good plot and lots of sexual tension. Some of the big plot issues were silly things that were very contrived just to make the book work, but it is fiction so we expect that :) My only issue is that he is supposed to be this big bad rake, but I found nothing really rakish about him other than he wanted to get h to be his mistress. He was actually a very honest and honorable man.
