After taking part in the book blitz for this book and reading some excerpts, I became really intrigued and was dying to read it. I am glad to say that I found myself really enjoying this imaginative fantasy tale. I always have a bit of admiration for authors that tackle the fantasy genre. The imagination needed for these types of books is astounding, and Ms Kay certainly did the genre justice. She has created a fascinating and captivating story that left me wanting more. I really enjoyed the characters. Zoe was a great protagonist and I loved following her on her journey through this new world.
While I did really enjoy the book, I had one or two issues with it. Firstly, there were numerous grammar errors. It needed another round of edits I felt. Just before I began writing my review however, I saw that the author had noticed this and so published a new updated version, so I am happy about this. Another problem I had was that, while the book was never dull, I felt that there was too much crammed into it. I think the story would have been better if it was fleshed out a bit more and maybe took up two books. Everything felt a little too fast-paced. Some scenes could have been dragged out a bit more, and I really would have preferred if the relationship between Zoe and Matis was more fleshed out and took longer to develop. It was too rushed for my liking.
Having said all that though, I liked this book immensely and was completely engaged in the story. I'd recommend it to all fantasy lovers. ...more

I'm gonna start off this review by saying that I adore Cassie Mae's books. Seriously love them. And even though I did really enjoy this one I have to say it's not my favourite by her. There were a couple of things that I didn't like and so I'm not really sure how to rate it. At first I gave it 4.5. But then I thought about it for a bit and felt that maybe that was a bit generous. A 3-3.5 would have been too low I thought so I settled on 3.75-4. I'll start off by stating what I liked. I loved the characters of Sam and Tyler for the most part, especially Tyler. He was so cute and adorable and I loved the banter and chemistry the two of them had. Sam was a really strong character for most of the story and I liked that she stuck up for herself (most of the time) and went after what she wanted. There were plenty of laughs to be had and the overall story was well written. There were also a few secondary characters that I would love to have books about. Particularly Tyler's brother Hunter.
Now one of the things that I didn't like was the insta-love. This is just my own personal feelings but 95% of the time I really cannot stand insta-love. And this was one of them sadly. I know this was probably just going along with the whole Romeo & Juliet theme but it just wasn't for me. I would have liked their relationship to have been a bit more fleshed out. Another thing that bugged me was the whole rivalry thing. Are there really towns like this in America? Because to me it felt really over-done and wasn't that believable. If that was the whole point then fair enough, I can go along with that. But there were still a couple of other things that didn't feel very believable.
Although there were a few things that irked me, for the most part I did really enjoy the book. I got through it in a day so it was a very quick read. Apart from the rivalry, I really liked the American football aspect. I may not know a whole lot (ok hardly anything :P) about American football but I liked reading about it. I suggest everyone give this book a shot because while I didn't love it, you might :) ...more

I really did not see Ms Phoenix taking the story in this direction. I was so surprised and I loved that! I hate when a story is predictable and you can guess what's gonna happen from the get go. But not this time. Oh no, this story is in no way predictable. There are so many twists and turns you have no idea what's gonna happen next. I really do applaud Ms Phoenix for her creativity and imaginative story-telling. There are so many new elements thrown into the mix this time around. How she comes up with them all I have no idea!
Poor Fallon. That girl just cannot catch a break. Things keep going from bad to worse for her. My heart really breaks for the situation she is in. One she doesn't seem to have any control over. But at least she has Isaiah by her side. Can I make a suggestion? Isaiah is not allowed to wear a shirt ever again. I think all the ladies out there will agree with me on this :P I love that boy. Please Airicka, don't break my heart when it comes to him. There are so many new characters introduced, one of my favourites being Archer. I just have a soft spot for the sarcastic ones :P
This book has been a long time coming and I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. Full of heart-pounding action, sizzling romance, and so many new revelations you will be glued to the page! And that damn cliffhanger!! Ugh if I have to wait another year for book 3, me and Ms Phoenix will be having words! ;) I cannot recommend this woman's books enough. They are just amazing!

I was really hoping to like this book. From the blurb it seemed like it would be really interesting. Sadly this turned out to be just an OK read, so I was disappointed :/ The big thing I didn't like about the book was the main character Britt. She was so naive and childish and was constantly changing her mind, jumping back and forth with her feelings and actions. She made some really stupid decisions. I just could not connect with her. She was such a weak, spoiled character, so dependent on the men in her life. And she knew it! She knew what she was doing! I just really did not like her.
The romance was another aspect I didn't like. It was very Stockholm Syndrome. I was never rooting for Britt and Mason as a couple because it was just very unrealistic. One minute Britt was lusting after Mason, the next she was reminiscing about her ex, Calvin. It was all very head wrecking. The writing itself was also only OK. At times it felt a bit disjointed and didn't really flow well. I also got a bit bored a couple times and found myself skimming some sections. Britt's see-saw like thoughts got annoying really quickly.
I know it sounds like I absolutely hated the book, and I am struggling with rating it, but it wasn't completely awful. It managed to keep my attention long enough for me to not give up on it so there's that, lol. I also liked the twist at the end, even if I did see it coming. I was hoping that this would have been better than Hush, Hush as that was just an OK read for me too, but obviously not. I don't know if it will be worth my time reading any future books by this author....more
Loved, loved, loved, LOVED!! Can I leave my review at that? :P No? Ok I’ll try to elaborate.
Every book I read by Cassie I adore and The Real Thing was no different. Cassie has a fantastic knack for writing a story that turns you into a gooey mess of emotions. One minute you are going “awwwww!” from the cuteness of it all and the next you are on the verge of tears from how heartbreaking it is. You are really put through the emotional wringer with her books. And The Real Thing was no exception. I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud or had a tear in my eye.
One of the things I loved about this book was how relatable it was. I think so many of us can relate with either Mia or Eric. I know I can relate with both. Especially when it came to Mia and her addiction to technology and the internet. But I think the majority of us will see a bit of ourselves in her :P Another think I loved about the book was Eric. So many NA books feature a bad boy with a tortured past and a girl with some sort of self-esteem issue. But never have I come across a character like Eric. It’s so rare to read about a guy with body image issues and social anxiety. He was such a breath of fresh air and I just adored him so much. Cassie discusses the topics of social anxiety and weight issues with a great sense of realism. She doesn't sugar-coat it but at the same time she doesn't fantasize it. It was handled brilliantly and so bravo to Cassie for that.
The story itself is the friends to lovers type and I always love these. What I loved even more about this book is that it didn't take them the entire book to act on their feelings for one another. It wasn't dragged out, so the entire thing wasn't taken up with the whole “will they, won’t they?” The story was about so much more than that. It was real, it was modern, it was everything.
A fantastically written book that is so much more than a love story. Everyone needs this book in their life. This book has made a home in my heart and it will forever stay there. ...more

I didn't think this series could get any better because I absolutely adored the first book. But boy was I wrong. This was an amazing sequel! I devoured this book in no time, I just couldn't put it down!
A year has passed, Haley has graduated high school and we are back on the west coast to live out our forever with our new friends. But things don't always go as planned and we suddenly find everything and everyone starting to unravel. Haley quickly realizes that a lot can change in a year, and not everything lasts forever. The one think I always love with Nikki's books is the characters. A book can have a fantastic story-line, and it can be written beautifully, but if you don't get invested in the characters lives then none of that stuff makes a difference. And when it comes to Nikki's books I always get invested. I feel like I am right there with them, going through all the emotions they are going through. And I think the characters in this series are some of my all time favourites. I just adore them all! A.J. is still my #1 but ooh Topher. You just stole the show in this book didn't you. I am so glad he got a more prominent role because when we met him in CFD I couldn't help but love this little adorable, hyper-active ball of fun. I just want to squeeze him, he is too cute! I think he has joined AJ as my favourite. We get more of an insight into some of the other characters too which I loved. A couple peoples back-stories broke my heart though. And I was happy to see some character development too which I always enjoy.
A lot happens in the book so you won't be bored! There are plenty of twist and turns to keep you entertained. Another thing I loved was that the story is very realistic. It wasn't cliche or too overly dramatic. There was also enough romance to keep the romantic in me happy ;) I'm not gonna say anything about the actually plot because you need to experience it as you read but the one thing I will say is prepare yourself for a cliffhanger! I was not emotionally prepared for one so when I reached the last page and found out that that was the end I sat in shock for a minute because I couldn't believe Nikki would do that to me!! It was so cruel! Just...gaaaahhhh!!! I need book #3 NOW!! *breathes* I'm ok. I'm ok.
Moving on from that little outburst :P You all seriously need to read this book. If you haven't started this series yet then you are missing out! No words can express how much I truly love this woman's books....more

So. Many. Feels!! This book evoked so many emotions I don't know how I'm gonna write a proper review. I have never read anything by Theresa Paolo but I love all of Cassie Mae's books so I knew I was gonna love this book anyway. And boy did I. This book is just all kinds of awesome and of course so flipping cute. But apart from it being hilarious and really fun, it also packed an emotional punch in the sense that I wanted to bawl my eyes out! Friend-zoned stories always get to me because it's so frustration and unfair and you just want to shake the two characters and make them see what's right in front of them. And the dual POV makes it all the more frustrating cause you know that they both feel the same way about each other but they are too stubborn to realise it. I loved Ryan. Seriously adored him. He is like the perfect guy. I want one. How Lexie lasted so long without jumping his bones I do not know :P Speaking of Lexie I really liked her. She has had a pretty crappy life and I wanted her to realise what she had instead of what she didn't but I still liked her. She was strong and could stand up for herself but she was her own worst enemy. And I loved her obsession with nail polish. I want to raid her collection :P And I adored Nate and Kaylee. Those two are hilarious. I can't wait for their book!
So yeah I absolutely adored this book. It is so incredibly cute and will also make you want to have a good long cry. I can't wait for more of Lexie and Ryan! And I may check out Theresa Paolo's books!...more

How to Date a Nerd tells the story of Zoe, a girl who was so cruelly bullied in middle school for being a nerd that she reinvented herself when she started high school, burying her nerdiness away and becoming Popular Zoe, who, for lack of a better word, was a bit of a bitch. I was worried I wasn't gonna like her but I actually found myself really connecting with her and really liking her. Even though she has turned into someone not nice, and I wanted to slap her upside the head a couple times, I completely understood why she did it. Many of us have at one point or another hidden our real selves, fearing being laughed at and humiliated. I felt so bad for Zoe for what she went through. I really wish kids weren't such assholes and just let others be. Because seriously? Geek Zoe is fricking awesome! Her inner monologue was hilarious! I could so see myself being BFFs with her. I just wanted to jump into my kindle, hug her and tell her that being a geek is nothing to be ashamed of. I found myself tearing up a few times when she was at a low point. But then what she did at the end of the book? Hell yeah! You go girl! I loved it! A brilliant ending. Now on to Zak. Oh my god can I have one? Like seriously he is just adorable! Him and Zoe are made for each other. They are so cute and geeky together, I just love it. He could be so awkward at times but I just loved him even more. The book is very well written, the writing flows smoothly and it is so easy to read. I would have finished it in one sitting if that pesky little thing called life didn't get in the way.
Cassie Mae is quickly becoming my go to author for when I need something light and fun to read. While humorous, adorable, and packed full of nerdy awesomeness, this book is also a touching tale, with a great message to be yourself, no matter what other people think. A must read! I really can't wait for book 2, How To Seduce a Band Geek. Looking forward to more of Levi :) ...more

It's official. I love this woman's books. I fell in love with her writing in American Girl on Saturn, and my love just grew after reading Chasing Forever Down.
I really don't know where to start in telling you how awesome this book is. It had everything I want in a book. It was character driven, with an adorable romance and a great message.
I seriously loved all the characters in this book. I loved that Haley followed her heart and went after her dream. She was a great character with a great heart. I really connected with her. And I loved all the new friends she made. Reed, the sweety, oh and AJ. He was crazy and adorable. I heart him so much. Oh and Vin. Yum! Oh oh oh and the Hooligans! Gah I loved them all! I loved how close knit the surf community is and how loyal they are to each other. And that brings me on to the surfing part of the book. I've decided that I want to run away to California and find my own surfer. I want to live in Crescent Cove and work in Drenaline Surf. Or work with Haley in her frame shop. Being surrounded by hot surfers all day is the dream ya know ;) But seriously I loved the book's message of going after what you want and following your heart. It has made me want to chase down my forever.
I truly adore Nikki's writing. She describes things so beautifully, they just leap off the page. And I love how each book has a sort of symbol you can associate to them. For AGoS it was bleeding butterflies, and here it was paper stars. The story was jam-packed, there was never a dull moment. I sailed through it in no time because I just could not put it down.
So yeah, I adored this book. It made my heat happy :) A definite must read! I cannot wait for book #2. Gimme gimme gimme!! ...more
This was a beautifully written story about moving on, finding who you are, and learning to live life to its fullest.
I have loved everything this author has written and this book was no exception. It was such a beautiful and touching story. I loved the characters, but if I'm honest Ridge did get on my bad side a couple times. This made him come across as more real though. He wasn't perfect, but no one is. I think the author did a really great job of writing from the male perspective. I'm not a guy though so I can't really say with 100% certainty :P But it all felt very believable. And Micah I adored. He was such a sweetheart. The relationship between these two slowly built into something truly sweet and was another aspect that the author handled with realism and didn't try to fantasize. Ridge struggles with his feelings for Micah but you can see him slowly bringing down the walls he has built up. The story takes place over the course of a summer so there was no insta-love. I loved the carousel horses part of the story. It was a great way for the two boys to get to know each other and to build their friendship. The glimpses into Micah's life and his culture gave the story that bit extra dept too. It had me engaged, wanting to learn more about life on the reservation. Everything about this book was just brilliant. Nikki's writing is something that I truly adore. She describes everything in such detail and clarity that they just leap off the page. And I loved the little bit of a crossover with her sisters book that we got.
If you are looking for a sweet, moving and flawlessly written book then you need to read Falling From the Sky. I cannot recommend it enough. This book is so much more than a love story. I actually chocked up when the book was over because it left me with such a strong feeling of satisfaction. It was everything I wanted. I will never be able to look at a carousel without picturing Micah and the crazy summer journey he brought Ridge on. I 5683 this book. ...more

This book was all kinds of cute and packed full of goofiness. I loved the authors sense of humor. She managed to turn serious situations in to funny ones. I especially loved Kayla and Wesley's banter. Those two were hilarious and so adorable when they were together. I really related with Kayla too. I thought she was a great character, even if she did frustrate one or two times. And Wesley? He was adorable! So different from the usual bad boy found in most NA books. He was just all kinds of funny and sweet and he plays guitar! Just perfect.
The story-line is fast paced and keeps you hooked. I read it in one sitting, I just couldn't get enough. I found myself smiling and laughing out loud throughout most of it. It didn't frustrate me as much as I thought it would. And I loved the twist at the end. Brilliant! Overall this book was jam-packed with cuteness, silliness and will just warm your heart. This is the first book by Cassie Mae that I have read and it definitely won't be the last :)

This book provided a great insight into the enigma that is Ford and we get a glimpse into some behind the scenes activity that we have only speculated to until now. This man is just all kinds of strange and fucked up. He has so many sides to him and I think when we get to see the sweet, lonely and tortured side of him my heart just breaks. Salt is the story of Penelope and her quest to get her magic back from the demon that killed her parents. I really enjoyed Penelope as a protagonist. She's very witty and has great determination. And I loved Carter. He was adorable. There is a lot of mystery behind him but he wasn't the typical moody bad boy type. Sure he was arrogant and overly confident but he still had really sweet moments. His and Pen's interactions were so fun and they had great chemistry. They were so snarky towards each other and I love that type of humor. One thing that did sort of bug me and so added to the reduced star rating is that I felt it was a little bit insta-love. Not overly in your face insta-love, but I still felt like the "I love yous" were a bit premature. I would have liked it to have been left until the second book but I still liked them together.
The story is full of action, with plenty of fight scenes to keep you entertained. Even though Pen has no magic she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Although saying that, I did find myself wanting to shake some sense into her a couple times. She didn't really think some things through and you would think that she would be more prepared. I mean who leaves the house without salt when you know it's the one thing that will protect you? Come on girl, use your head. Along with all the action, there is plenty of mystery to keep you second guessing as to what is really going on. There were a few surprises and I really liked that. I love when a book has the ability to surprise me.
Overall this was an action packed adventure, filled with wonderful humor, a sweet romance, and numerous twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. The author has created a magical and creative world and I look forward to continuing on the adventure in book 2.

This book was just all kinds of cute. I loved every second of it. After reading her sister's book, American GirlBlog Tour Post: The Shadow Realm
This book was just all kinds of cute. I loved every second of it. After reading her sister's book, American Girl on Saturn, and seeing that the band mentioned in that was featured in this book, I just had to read it. And like AGOS I adored this book! It had everything I had hoped and more.
This book centers around Becca and her friends and how one night at a concert will change their lives forever. We've all been there. Fantasizing about what it would be like to meet our favourite band, what it would be like to be friends with them, or even go out with one of its members. I can see myself acting so much like Becca. Trying to act cool on the outside but be completely dying on the inside. I loved this girl and how totally awesome she was. And I loved her crazy friend Carli too. Now even though I don't think Mutilated Arteries would be my sort of band or that I would be that attracted to the guys I still found myself really liking them. They all have great and unique personalities that shine through in their wacky outfits and crazy names. We have Nightmare, Banshee, Ink, Corpse and Sketch. They always go by their stage names which adds some mystery to them. Why does no one know their real names? Why are they always sleeping so much? And what's with Corpse's obsession with zombies and Banshee's obsession with blood? There is something different about this band and the girls are gonna be in for a big surprise when they find out what it is. I loved the paranormal element of the story. Even though the book was great as a contemporary, I think this made the book even better. I loved the twist and can't wait to find out more about it. The romance in the book is super sweet. I really loved Sketch and Corpse. Sketch was just adorable and Corpse is hilarious, if not a bit mad :P
Overall I simply loved this book. It is beautifully written and completely captivating. It was a heartwarming contemporary, but then add in the paranormal element and you've got yourself a terrific read. The Godwin sisters are fantastic writers and I loved the crossover between their books. I highly recommend this book to everyone and I can't wait for the next installment to learn more about this insane band. ...more

OK. It's official now. I love Ford. He won me over in this book and now I really and truly love him, weirdness and all. Huss has outdone herself with this book. I loved it so much more than the Rook & Ronin books. I didn't know how I would feel while reading it as I didn't really like Ford in SLACK, but dear god my heart just melted all over the floor while reading TAUT. His voice was so strong and powerful, you could feel every emotion he felt. Huss did an excellent job writing the male POV. Sometimes female authors don't pull off the male POV but Huss hit the nail on the head when it came to writing Ford.
Although the relationship Ford creates with Ashleigh could be classed as insta-love it didn't bother me. Normally I hate insta-love stories but for some reason this didn't scream insta-love so I didn't mind it. I think it's because Huss created two great characters, with such great chemistry, that it felt like they knew each other for years. I loved how Ashleigh stood up to Ford and was able to handle all his shit. She was such a strong character even though she is struggling with something horrible that happened to her. When it is revealed what it is she is dealing with I couldn't believe how the poor girl was still standing. My heart utterly broke for her. And it made me realize that these two broken people really are perfect for each other.
This book created so many feels it was hard to sort through them all. But what I ultimately ended up with was happiness. Happiness that these two people found their HEA. A powerful, emotional, steamy and breathtaking read. My favourite book of the series by a mile. But Spencer might change my mind on that when I get his book ;)...more
