I loved every bit of it! Richards has created an amazing world where choices have been taken away and people have been divided. Nothing is what it seems and one step out of place results in a fight to the death. But will you be the one to survive?
The world that the story is set in is new and fascinating. There are monarchies, balls, horse and carriages but at the same time people wear jeans, wear nail polish and have mobile-phone-like devices. It is a blend of old and new, something that I found very intriguing. Society is split in two, divided between the Warrior and Hunter race. The Hunter race live in poverty and Richards depicted this very well it the way she described the ruined city and how they found it hard to find work to earn money to put food on the table. They characters I really liked. Princess Echo feels like an anomaly. She knows she should be excited about getting married and soon becoming Queen but she doesn't. She doesn't want this life. All she wants is to be free to make her choices and not have to follow her fathers orders the whole time. She doesn't believe in the way the people are treated and how they have to be divided. But after one disappointment after another she slowly loses the will to fight. That is until she meets Ayden. They instantly form a connection and soon they embark on a forbidden romance, one that will mean the death of them if discovered. Echo I liked. I liked how she stood up for herself and chose to make a stand. She saw that the way her father ruled was wrong and I loved that she decided enough was enough. I really rooted for her. Ayden was great too. My heart broke for him and the situation he was in. I really rooted for these too as a couple and just wanted them to get the break in life they deserved.
This is a heart-wrenching and action-packed book that will stay with you long after you've finished it. I loved how it started in the present and then skipped back to 5 weeks before. This hooked me and I had to know what was gonna happen. I also loved how it was told from both Echo's and Ayden's POV. You really got to see both sides of the divide and the difference and also the similarities in these characters lives. I can't wait for Deceiving Destiny to find out what is next in store for Echo and Ayden. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Right from the word go we are thrust into this intense and thrilling story. I really wasn't expecting to love this book as much as I did. I don't know what I was expecting from the book after reading the blurb but certainly not that. So first off I have to mention something. I am a total science geek. I love anything to do with science ( I am addicted to The Big Bang Theory) even if most of the time I haven't a clue what they're talking about. I am especially fascinated by genetics so the geek in me really enjoyed this book in that sense. It was a really interesting and unique story-line and as the story progressed and more facts were revealed I became more and more engrossed. The characters were really likable Fallon was a great lead. She's sarcastic, witty, strong-willed, and very determined. Having been on the run with her mother for practically most of her life, her life has been far from normal. And it's about to get a lot less so. When she meets the mysterious Isaiah, her life takes a turn for the bizarre. Isaiah I really liked. He's your typical hot. mysterious, savior that always seems to show up when you need him most. But there is so much more to him than meets the eye. He was a great love interest. I loved the story behind these two's attraction to each other. At first it seems like a horrible case of insta-love (which it kind of is) but it is completely justified and so this is one of the rare occasions where I actually loved the insta-love. It is such a heartbreaking story.
The story is packed full of action, suspense, originality, heartbreak, loss, love and so much more. It was exciting, emotional and just fantastic. I really don't know what else I can say except for you have to read this book! Ms Phoenix has a real winner on her hands her. Can't wait to see where the story will take us in book two. (less)

This is only the second mermaid novel I have read but I have to say it is by far the best! Before starting this book I was in a bit of a reading slump but it managed to pull me out of it. It had me hooked, line and sinker (pun intended). Cho has created a mesmerizing and enchanting world beneath the sea. This was one of the things I loved about this book; how it was actually set in the mermaids world and not ours. The beautifully vivid descriptions of this world will make you think you are actually there. You will be entranced by the lush and vibrant colours of this underwater kingdom, everything described down to the last detail. You could practically taste the kelp. You know that the author has done a lot of research. The characters are the second reason I loved this book. Florence I really liked. I felt I could relate to her and how she goes by just observing life, never engaging in it. She experiences real character growth throughout the book and we get to see her finally come out of her shell a little. The mer folk I really enjoyed. Princess Yolee was a little cutie, I wanted to squeeze her. She is so fun and loving, she became a true friend to Florence. Prince Kiren I was always a bit wary of, even if he was a bit of a charmer. Prince Rolan we don't really get to know until about half way through the book. He is very distant and almost cold to begin with but then we see that there is more to his hard exterior. In the end I found myself rooting for him ( why is it I always seem to go for the brooding types?). The story-line was well thought out. It was very interesting and kept you engaged in the book. It was never boring. The ending left me dying to know what happens next.
Overall this is a must read for any mermaid lovers out there. A spellbinding read that will leave you gasping for air and make you wish that this world actually existed and that you could be a part of it.
Side-note: I had the song Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid playing in my head the whole time while reading. Even though the lyrics should be the other way around. Now it's gonna be stuck in my head for days :P I love this song though so I'm not complaining :)
