The first thing I noticed was that the writing style was steady and that the opening scenes a lovely job of both introducing the characters, and explaining their relationship with one another. The second thing I noticed was that the sample was really long. This was important to me; I hate purchasing a kindle book and discovering that I can finish it in an hour.
First the bad. I know that this is a petty complaint, but since it bugged me, I have to mention it, there are spots where the formatting is off. It looks to me like the start of the paragraphs are tabbed, but then the remainder of the paragraph justified itself with the tabbing. Like I said, petty, but slightly irritating.
My other complaint with the novel is that there are some places where the pacing is a little slower than I would have liked.
There are moments when the characters irritated me but it was always in line with the characters personality and background. The author did a wonderful job creating three dimensional characters and was able to create back stories that not only made for compelling stories, but that also made it possible to understand why they were drawn to one another. Beautiful Disaster does not have a lot of suspense, but it does have just enough mystery to keep your reading through the slow sections. There were times when I had a very difficult time suspending my sense of reality, and couldn't help thinking that characters needed to experience the consequences for their actions.
