It’s the story of the ups and downs of a relationship told through a series of dictionary entries, like this one:
Suffuse, v. I don’t like it when you use my shampoo, because then your hair smells like me, not you.
The narrator is an unnamed man, and his unnamed lover could either be a man or a woman, we never find out (a neat trick in itself.) I sometimes find things like this a little too precious, but this one was not. It hit me where I live, and I was blown away by just how well-developed the characters became in such an unusual format, and more than a little awed by the skill that was obviously involved in making this work. A quick read, yes, but by no means slight—and well worth picking up. (less)
