Lichgates caught my interest because Kara, our protagonist, stumbled on a new world where different races are living and at war with each other. In this world, she took over the role of the Vagabond which tasks is to promote "World Peace". While reading the book, I can't help but be reminded of Aang, the Avatar. Her role is somewhat like the same with Aang, she have to be the guide to unite the warring kingdom.
What I like about this book is the different races and the representation of each kingdom. Some of them looks like sea creatures living under the sea, races who resides in the clouds, and high trees. They don't look like human at all. They have wings, different skin colors and such. This book is full of imagination and I'm too overwhelmed.(less)

I'm not saying that Sydney is lame but who can resist Adrian and his witty comments, huh? I sure was not immune since I was glued with the book the whole afternoon. We were supposed to watch The Catching Fire today but I can't move myself out of bed. I can't leave Adrian!
Anyway, the Fiery Heart, I noticed is just about Sydney and Adrian's romance. Yup, it's all about them and I'm not complaining at all. I'm just too happy to read things move up the notch between them. It's full of cheesy stuff so I guess if you're not shipping Sydrian, you might be throwing this book out of your window every chapter. It's about making out, making out and more making out. Again, I'm not complaining. It's your loss, in fact, here's one of their making out picture.
One more thing I enjoyed on this book is the cameo appearance of Rose. Gosh, I so miss that girl and Dimitri, of course. Well, other than that, nothing much happened. If you're looking for actions and stuffs, the book might disappoint you.(less)

So to say, this is just one of the best book I have read this year. The last time I felt this was when I finished reading The Lumatere Chronicles. Although this is the final installment of Dusk Gate chronicles, there's a follow up novella and another book that will still feature the Dusk Gate characters. However, I'm not sure I will be reading these two books anytime soon. I need to get over with the blow of this book first or else my heart will explode if I continue reading it.(less)

I think I have a love-hate relationship with this book. I still love the world and the races introduced in the second book but I hate the progress of the story.
In the second book, I thought I will be reading more through Crash's POV. All along I thought that this is his time to tell his story, his past and his "future" redemption. But NO! We still have Sora telling us 70% of the book. The thing is, I want to be in Crash's mind. What is he thinking? What is his plan? How does he fell being an assassin? What is his past and why did he decided to change? He's been trained as assassin for so long, for all I know, he's been born to be an assassin. Why have a change of heart now and when did he decided to seek for redemption? You see, until now I'm not sure I know who Crash is/was. This book didn't satisfy my curiosity with his character. He's still as mysterious as the first time we met him in Sora's Quest. Thus, I am utterly disappointed.
On the bright side, I like the progress of the other characters. Sora is no longer whiny and spoiled aristocrat. I guess spending time with mother made her a better and stronger person. But up to this point, I still can't say that I love Sora's character in this book. She still have some flaws that I really hate. If you ask me who would be my favorite character, I think it's Volcrian. Yes, he's evil and actually more evil in this book. He's different and worst person now, ten times fold. Despite all his evilness, I pity him so much. His revenge and hate made him worst and I always blame Crash. He's started this and he keeps on running away from this problem, thus a lot of people are suffering too. First, Burn and Dorian. Now, an evil is lurking in Earth when Volcrian performed a forbidden blood magic in the first book just to get to Crash.
Romance: well, no major progress and I'm not sure I like the pairing at all. I just can't feel any chemistry between the two. On the other hand, I like Burn and Laina's friendship. It's not an intimate relationship but Burn treating Laina like a daughter is so sweet.
Overall, I don't like this sequel at all (there, I said it!) but that doesn't mean I will not continue the series. The 3rd book is now out with Volcrian's Hunt but I'm not reading it for now. I just hope it will reach my expectation and hopefully, I will have more info about Volcrian.(less)

I really like reading this book because the description of the world and the story is so vivid and imaginative. The character and their world felt so real to me and I like that the story introduced a different kind of magical races. Right from the start of the book, I was hooked already. I want to know more about the characters and their past especially with Crash (the assassin) and Volcrian. Although, the book was narrated in Sora's POV, I never experienced a dull moment. She's a great narrator and a bit funny.
Another thing I like about this book is the character development. They were build up correctly and I really felt their progress all the way to the last chapter. The book didn't focused solely with Sora, Crash and Volcrian since the minor characters also played a huge role to develop the protagonist's personality.
However, I cannot honestly say that I'm 100% satisfied with the book because I think the plot is sort of inconclusive especially the ending. But since this is a series, I guess some of the question and curiosity that still lingers to me until now will be answered in the next book. I want to know more about the past of Crash and his responsibility with Volcrian's revenge. I'm not even sure if Crash is a regular human.(less)

I can't believe I'm the first to review this book here in Goodreads. What can I say? I love it more than the prequel! The story continues after Britt and her knights won the war against King Lot. However, another problem arrived at their kingdom when Morgause and her son visits King Arthur. (view spoiler)[Although she's the wife of King Lot, she's also half-sister of King Arthur, therefore have a right to pay a visit. What's interesting is one of the son is Gawain, a future knight of King Arthur. (hide spoiler)]
The sequel delivers more greatly than the prequel. For once, Britt is no longer a mere puppet of Merlin. Her actions and decisions are now highly respected and I admired them. She gained the trust and loyalty of her knight all by herself, without the help of Merlin anymore. I think her character grows more in this book and she's now a better inspiration than on the first book. As Ywain have quoted:
He makes you want to be a better person and to see the world the way he does. Our King, he's a geat man.
As for Merlin, he's no longer the bossy counselor who sees Britt as a simple woman from the future, thus not entitled for decision-making. He now values and let her do decisions, he trusts her more than the other. He guides her, if needed but most of the time he allows her to think for herself. I also like that my ship is sailing smoothly on this book and we have a glimpse that there could be a romantic feelings between them.
We were introduced with more characters in this book. I think Morgause is supposed to be Morgana seeing that Merlin and Morgause doesn't seem to get along. Plus, Morgause has magical power as well. I love how the two bickers over simple things and throwing insult regarding their age. (view spoiler)[Guinevere also made a cameo appearance and it made me feel excited. Not that I love Guinevere but I really want to know how the story will fold on the "romantic" relationship between Guinevere and King Arthur. If Guinevere is in this book, then Lancelot must be near. I just hope that Lancelot will not fall in love with Britt, though. (hide spoiler)]
To sum it up, this book is great sequel of Britt and her knights. Again, it's just a simple story but something you will definitely enjoy. I can't wait for the next book and the synopsis says that Guinevere and Lancelot will be present. I am hoping for more Merlin and Britt romantic tandem.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)
This is my second book from this author, KM Shea. The first one is the retelling of Robyn Hood which was also good despite of it's lack of "wow" factor through the ending.
Enthroned is another retelling of a legendary British leader, King Arthur. The story is very amusing and easy to read. I was able to finish it in just one day. I can't say that it's an awe-inspiring story but definitely not an awful one either. It's in the middle, perhaps.
Britt Arthurs is a funny woman yet strong and capable. Being stuck in an old era with her language and slang words made the story a bit lighter and fun to read. Merlin and the other knights are a plus in this story. I would be more happier if the story will include more interaction of Britt with the other knights and therefore winning their trust herself. At the start of the story, the knights are already dedicated with Britt because Merlin said so. They didn't questioned Britt's gender, they just accept everything wholeheartedly.
As for romance in this book, I doubt that there would be. Britt have to pose as King Arthur throughout the whole story and it will raise a lot of question in morality if she's found flirting with any guys, correct? But if my imagination will allow me further, I think Merlin and Britt has a slight chemistry between them.
My biggest question now is how will Guinevere fit in the story? I guess if she'll really make an appearance with this story, now we know why she's had an affair with Lancelot, eh? And lastly, how is Britt gonna get back to her own time since Merlin has clearly said that it's impossible for him to do that?
Overall, I recommend Enthroned if you like a bit of light reading and want a relaxing tone. If you like retelling with woman disguised as a legendary hero, then this book is for you.(less)

I cannot say that I don't like the book at all because it did entertained me in terms of the character.Lhind, though sometimes is boring, is still an interesting character. Her secrets and lies kept me from reading and finishing the book. The progress of her character is build up correctly too. She doesn't trust anyone but as she met and joined the group of Hlanan, she improved quite well. Her ability to do magic is also a plus for me but throughout the book, her magical abilities is restricted. Hlanan on the other hand was my favorite right from the start. I like his personality and his influence to Lhind. He's also a magic practitioner and a scribe, the reason why I favor him over Rajanas.
Beside these two, I feel unattached with the minor characters. The others were not explored much and I would have been interested with Rajanas. I actually thought that he's a part of a love triangle that will never happen. Thianra was just a mere bard and a great supporter of Lhind.
How much I love the two characters, this book failed me with the story and plot. The premise was actually good but the latter fell apart. The plot is kinda weak for me and didn't catch my interest at all. I just kept on reading to know when the two will admit their feelings for each other. And speaking of the romance, I was a bit disappointed with the sudden confession. Yes, they felt something for each other but I was expecting a better confession scene and not when they were being chased.
Anyway, I am rating this book as a so-so because I neither like it nor hate it. However, I'm not sure I would be re-reading this unless the author will write a sequel. I would recommend this to anyone who likes historical fantasy with bit of romance, magics and whatnots.(less)
Right after finishing the first book, I instantly bought the sequel. I was so caught up with Katie and Alex that I want to know what will happen with their banishment to the outside world. I am not sure if I like the second book at all. To be honest, it's not as good as the first one and it doesn't offer concrete explanation of the virus and how the Holy Ground are the only safe place from vampires. Yes, it did gave some theories but it's too implausible for me. Or maybe I prefer scientific explanation rather than spiritual one which actually reminds me that this book wants to explain that not everything can be answered by science. There was also mentions of "Aliens" and the internet meme which I found funny. I think that's the only time I laughed in this book aside from the vampire nuns.
What I like about this book is the closure between Katie and Alex. I feel more connected with Alex with this book and I like his side stories of Greek Myths. He's intelligent and good story teller. I think he's my favorite character in this book. The idea of the glowing human is also unconvincing and I was actually waiting for a side-effects of this serum but it didn't happened.
If you have read the first book then you will definitely like the sequel. It might not be as strong as the prequel but it's still fun to read. Plus, if you want more Katie and Alex then you will love this.(less)

She's a strong woman and unlike the other fairytale princesses, her story is about saving her father, her country and to bring honor to her family in spite of her gender.
This book is a retelling of her legend. It's almost good but the book is too short and focuses more on Mulan's childhood and family. It's cool and I love her story every bit. Her narration is quite exceptional too. I was moved throughout the whole book especially the love story of her parents, the death of her mother and growing up with her father so far from her.
However, though the book had a nice start and introduction of her childhood, it had a fall out in the ending. The ending and the main point of her legendary action is quick paced and feels like forced. The war took only 1/4 of the whole book and I don't like the insta-love between the prince and her. I think I prefer Li Po as the main love interest since he got more screentime than Prince Jian. Li Po, however is just a caring and loyal friend.
Overall, the book is a good read if you like reading legend-retelling. But don't expect this to be accurate at all. In fact, I think the book is a retelling of Mulan's childhood instead of the time that she saved China. (less)

Review What I like about this book is that it depicts two type of worlds: Utopia and Dystopia. Katelyn lives in a better world while Rune is still fighting in a war in their world as a Dragoon. The pacing of this book is quite fast but I'm not sure if I like it or not.
On Katelyn's second return on the Outside World, she now have a mission and that is to rescue her mother and her team who went outside 6 months ago for a Historical Research. Her mother's team doesn't have a clue about the current war in the Outside World and their importance in it. Therefore, only Katelyn can help the team to go back to Haven safe and sound. Unknown to Katelyn, her friends Ruby, Sterling and Kyle followed her Outside World. Thus, their group is set in an adventure to rescue the other historical research team who are in prison inside the Prince's castle.
My thoughts I want to say that I like the second book but actually it didn't reached my expectation. But that doesn't mean I don't love it anymore.
A lot of things happened after Katelyn left the Outside World. Katelyn' and Rune's world are very interesting and I love to explore more about it, but the second book didn't give anything that will excite me. However, I was so excited to see that Ruby and Kyle are now part of the Outside World. I hope on the third book, we will get more idea of the Outside World and the secret/conspiracy of Haven.
Katelyn as a character is still okay but on this book, she's a bit boring. Dylan is also back but not as much as a bad guy. And of course, Rune is still awesome especially now that he has another reason to live. (view spoiler)[Not to be a lifeless soldier but a light and saviour of his people. (hide spoiler)] There are new characters in this book too. They were not explored much yet but I hope they will be included in the next book.
The romance is as minimal as it can be. It makes me hungry for more, so that's why I'm so excited to read more. I love the way the author depicts the love of our star crossed lovers. On the first book, it's already obvious that they want to stay together but because of Katelyn's circumstances, she can't stay nor he can live with her. So they have to be separated... more or less, forever. They have to sacrifice for their own people.
There are more things to improve and I hope the author has more things for us in the future. The story has lots of potential and hopefully not to be wasted. I crave for more Haven and Outside World. I want more information of the Princes and how the war started. Why did the Haven people cut their ties in the Outside World hundred years ago? What are the Lurchers and who created them? Who is sending them papers and researchers in the Still Well from the Outside World? Lots of question in my mind that would hopefully be answered in the next book.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

Yeah, it's not a good thing but I always go for books with better cover than this. One look at this book and it feels like I won't enjoy it. What do you think?
Anyway, I judged wrongly again and I'm glad I found this book. The thing is, I love reading theories about post apocalypse and the plot of this book is so close to what I imagine if there will be a zombie apocalypse. It's very close to reality, that's why I like it. The story line is very sensible, scary and realistic. Check the book description here if you're interested with what this book has to offer.
What I love about this book aside from the good storyline are the characters. Maria is a warrior, a veteran from the last war between human and zombie. She's a strong character and definitely a kick-ass one. The love interest, Dwayne, and their romance was something that ticked me off the whole time I was reading the book.
