She's been on my auto-buy list ever since I read GOING TOO FAR and FORGET YOU. When I heard about her newest novel, DIRTY LITTLE SECRET, I was beyond excited. First of all, the heroine's name is Bailey. One of my favorite authors has a heroine with my name. How amazing is that?! And Bailey wears the name well. She's as fierce and head strong as the name demands she be. ;) The romance in this book is not at all easy or super sweet, which made me appreciate it all the more. You have to go through the toughest of situations to appreciate the good in life.
Bailey is just as awesome as I would expect someone with our name to be. While her heart is hurting from the blatant brush off from her family, she makes due with what she's got. Her acts of rebellion cause her more pain than she deserves, but she needs some way to vent her anger. Her introduction to Sam couldn't have come at a better time. Sam may have selfish motives, but he gives Bailey what she needs to open up and start to heal her open wounds.
Sam is an absolute tool at times, yet readers won't be able to stop swooning over him. He has this way hypnotic about him with the ladies. Even Bailey with her hardened heart is putty in his hands. He can be a total sweetie when he needs to be, but he also has a tendency to put his needs and wants above those of others. He's your typical guy in that way, which is why I appreciated him so much. He was exactly what Bailey needed and they fit each other well. Readers will want to shake him at times, but don't worry. He eventually comes to his senses. It is a romantic YA contemporary after all. ;)
The music elements in DIRTY LITTLE SECRET were very well done. While I have basically zero knowledge of certain terms that someone who plays an instrument might know, Echols does a great job of explaining it. Bailey's fiddle playing drew me in just as much as the romance aspect. I could see how much her heart is in her music. She pours her soul into it and loves it so much. I connected with Bailey just seeing how important that part of her life was to her. I definitely liked how she and Sam connected with their shared love of music. Sam is just as passionate, if not more so (which says a lot), than Bailey about playing. It's everything to them. DIRTY LITTLE SECRET is a wonderful addition to Echols growing list of novels. While it is no match for my absolute favorite, GOING TOO FAR, there is still something special about it that makes it such a phenomenal read. Fans of contemporary are going to adore Bailey and Sam's story!...more

My initial reaction up*Warning: This isn't the typical review you'd see on IB Book Blogging. But then again, Mara Dyer isn't a typical book series...*
My initial reaction upon finishing THE EVOLUTION OF MARA DYER: HOLY. CRAP. That happened??? They really are? Wait, what?! Noooo!! Yessssss!!! Oh, it's over now? But it can't be! Please, have mercy on my soul! It needs the next book sooo bad. Don't let me suffer!!
Yeah, that's pretty much everything I was thinking, perhaps shouting...These Mara Dyer novels have a tendency to make me such a mess! In a good way, of course. This book is 500+ pages of thrill, chills, and reactions that I can't contain! I seriously have no idea how Michelle Hodkin does it. There is so much mystery going on behind the words that readers see. I couldn't guess the ending even if I tried. And believe me, I did. I don't think its possible for readers to just sit back and let the story unfold. Hodkin engages her readers in a story that is out of this world good.
I didn't think it was possible for EVOLUTION to be just as great as UNBECOMING, but it was. The stakes are raised even higher than before, if you can believe that. I couldn't put this book down at all for my fear for Mara's life. She becomes so real when I'm reading from her perspective that it's impossible to stop thinking about her.
And then there's Noah...what isn't there to say about this man? He is the embodiment of every girl/teen/woman fantasy. Hodkin dives a bit deeper into Noah's mind in this one and I finally understand a bit about his motivation. I don't think anyone can ever truly understand everything about Noah, though. He's as complex as anyone can get. In a good way of course.
Even though THE EVOLUTION OF MARA DYER is longer than your average novel, I still feel like I haven't gotten enough. I need every little piece of information about every little aspect of every little character. There's so many questions spinning in my mind that I need answers to! Please October 2013, come faster! ...more

If the teen pregnancy story line makes youMOTHERSHIP is a fresh and hilarious debut that is full of fun times, crazy experiences, and aliens galore! If the teen pregnancy story line makes you hesitant about it, let me tell you, there is so much more to the book than that. The science fiction aspect is engaging and readers will be fascinated by the concepts the authors introduce. So don't balk when you see pregnancy in the synopsis! Take a chance and I know you'll find yourself surprised by how much you love it.
Our heroine Elvie will have you laughing so hard that you won't be able breathe! Her one liners are in abundance, and I loved her ability to make light of a situation, no matter how dreary. She has some serious spunk and doesn't let mean words phase her. Her ability to take charge in dire situations is enviable and I would definitely want to have her on my side if I got into trouble.
The plot was definitely not at all what I was expecting, but in a good way. I thought it would focus on Elvie and her pregnancy woes in outer space, but it was so much more than that. It's about discovery, love, and learning to deal with some not-so-ideal situations. The sci-fi aspect was the best part and I was surprised to learn what I did. Readers won't expect what's coming!
MOTHERSHIP is one of my most surprising reads of the year. I was intrigued by its plot from the beginning, but I wasn't expecting to love it near as much as I did. I can't believe there isn't more buzz around MOTHERSHIP because there definitely should be. I'm looking forward to more in this series and I have no doubt that the next books will be just as good!...more

It is packed full of characters that will make your heart burst from love and heartache, and plot twists that will leave you stunned. I'm still so in awe of the raw beauty of this novel and the complex simplicity of it all. Look out YA world, Sabatini is an up and coming author who is sure to go far in her writer career if this book is any indication.
Elliot is a girl so full of regret and pain and self-loathing that it's easy to feel for her. While she comes to the Obmil as a Third Timer and therefore unaware of her past life, everything hits her fast and unravels her world as she knows it. Elliot made a huge mistake in her most recent life that haunts her and greatly affects the way she sees herself. It takes the aid of sweet mesmerizing Oliver and angry, hurt Trevor to understand the power of forgiveness and love.
Without revealing too much, I just have to brag and gush about Trevor and Oliver. These two guys are total opposites and exactly what Elliot needs to help her heal and learn about herself. Trevor is just as messed up as Elliot and together these two explore themselves and what it means to live. Oliver is adorable and one of the most genuinely amazing guys I have ever read about. He is absolutely perfect for Elliot in a different way than Trevor. I wish I had an Oliver in my life!
Sabatini has crafted a gorgeous world where people go to learn from their pasts and hopefully fix them so they can be better in their next life. Honestly, TOUCHING THE SURFACE touched me so deeply that I had to stop to reflect on my life and choices and what happens after death. It takes an extremely powerful book to affect me that much that I connect it to my life at all. Whatever you do, do not pass on this book! It is one of the best that I have read in a long, long time.
TOUCHING THE SURFACE is sure to haunt readers long after reading the final line. It reveals some ugly yet beautiful things about life that will make you think. I am going to recommend this book to everyone I know and make sure all my closest friends read it. I need people to cry and laugh with me about it! ...more

I dove right inIt's been quite a long journey for readers of this series and the wait for the final book in the trilogy has been a long time coming. I dove right in the second I received SHINE, and I wasn't satisfied until I had finished it all. Words cannot express how absolutely perfect SHINE is. It far surpassed my expectations.
I have been waiting so long for Aura's happy ending and for all the mysteries surrounding the Shift to be solved, but the way it all played out just made me beyond happy. After SHADE and SHIFT, I knew how crafty Smith-Ready could be and what phenomenal writer she was, but SHINE really showcases Smith-Ready's talent.
There is the perfect amount of Zach and Aura time. Some of their moments were heart-breaking, while others made my toes curl. This is their story and while they have been through so much, together they complete each other and make everything okay. I can only hope that I will find a love like Zach and Aura's.
I don't have a single negative thing to say about SHINE. If I could, I would run around singing praises at the top of my lungs for this amazingly awesome book. Everything comes together at a perfect pace and Smith-Ready leaves no questions unanswered by the final page. Smith-Ready has proved herself to be one heck of an author with the SHADE trilogy....more
Jennifer Echols is one of those scarce authors that never fails to make me fall completely and totally in love with each and every story she writes. HJennifer Echols is one of those scarce authors that never fails to make me fall completely and totally in love with each and every story she writes. Her words are pure magic that ignites off the page and casts a hypnotic spell on the reader. While reading SUCH A RUSH, there wasn't a moment where I wasn't thinking about it, even when I would have to set it down. It was so easy to get sucked into the life of Leah that it was even harder to pull away. Thank you, Echols, for creating such pieces of art that will always make me smile.
Leah is a broken girl who is afraid to show others her weaknesses. She doesn't want sympathy or pity. All Leah wants to do is fly and get away from her sad excuse for a life. I have to say that even though flying a plane wouldn't be my way to get away, Echols makes it sound so normal and understandable for a girl like Leah. Everyone needs some way of escape, and Leah's just happens to be in the front seat of an airplane.
Leah wasn't the only one who stole the show, no matter that the novel was from her perspective. While I couldn't ever connect with Alec (and I'm not sure that the reader is meant to), Grayson had my emotions and hormones going. This guy is tortured, hot, and full of loss. He and Leah are certainly a match for each other and neither was willing to back down in tense situations. It's great when love interests can be equals.
If only Jennifer Echols was a machine that could crank out novels like SUCH A RUSH every month. Sadly, that isn't how it works, no matter how much I would want that. While there are so many novels out there that I love, Echols' novels, namely SUCH A RUSH, will always hold a special place in my heart....more
