I wish I would have known that BLOOD RITES was book 2 before I read it. There were some parts that I was scratching my head wondering what they were talking about or or wishing I had some back story to go with some information and now I'm sure it was all in book 1 but alas I started reading book 2 with no background. While you can definitely enjoy BLOOD RITES without it I would probably read book 1 if you have the chance. (ha who am I to talk, I still didn't go back and read book 1 after I found out about it lol)
I was a little skeptical on whether or not I would enjoy BLOOD RITES going in to it. I wasn't crazy about the cover and I didn't know there was a book 1 so the blurb didn't really grab at me, but I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. Quinn's writing style flowed nicely, was easy to follow, and was easy to get into. Even though her characters were young and being mated everything was well explained at a Young Adult level while still being filled with romance and sticky situations. Fane and Jacque fit well together and were easy to like. I loved all the secondary characters. Jacque's best friends provided plenty of humor and support, while the little side love hate relationship between Jen and Decebel did a fantastic job of leading us to what will happen in book 3. All of the events of BLOOD RITES flowed nicely. There was plenty of conflict, heartache, action and werewolf politics to keep me on my toes as well as plenty of connection, romance and little things that made my heart melt.
Like I said before, I really wish I would have known about book 1, I'm not sure how I missed and and would have loved the back story but I still really enjoyed BLOOD RITES and would recommend it to all young adult werewolves book lovers....more
Even after everything that has happened Elizabeth is still a bit torn between duty and love. Her and Soloman are made for each other and that has been apparent since book one. Elizabeth has always held herself a bit back and talked her self out of taking the needed steps to make the relationship work. BLOOD ETERNAL turns all that around and brings them together much more closely then they have beem. There is some fantastic action and suspense in BLOOD ETERNAL. Friends need to make final choices as to who they will support and stand behind. Elizabeth comes into her talents more then she has in past books. The romance between Soloman and Elizabeth continues to be steamy. I really felt that Elizabeth did a great job with staying true to herself and her beliefs while working with everyone's best intentions in mind. BLOOD ETERNAL ends on an exciting note and I really want to know what happens next but it looks like the series is over :( I definitely think there is a lot of story left and hope it continues some time....more
I was pretty sad with how things ended in BLOOD ON SILK. They have so much chemistry together and it was hard to see them put that aside instead of finding a way to work together. Elizabeth has started tracking down her fellow descendants of Tsigana which leads her to find Josh a movie star that happens to be a far off relation to her. Josh became another great supporting character to the series while also bring Elizabeth into a situation where she runs into Soloman again. The pace was on the same level as book 1. The romance was just as high and the situations were just as pleasantly intense. I m excited to see what will happen in BLOOD AWAKENING to bring Soloman and Elizabeth even closer. BLOOD SIN was another great book in the Awakened by Blood series. ...more
I wasn't sure how I would feel about BLOOD ON SILK and it took me a really long time to even pick it up and read it. The book ended up being one of those OMG why did it take me so long to read you books. I enjoyed Elizabeth's character. She has a strong knowledge of the things she enjoys and has no troubles staying on course. When Soloman drops into her life she is torn between duty and desire. I wasn't sure about Soloman at the beginning but he slowly grew on me and became a favorite character of mine. The plot was well spaced out and played out in a way that kept me interested. I felt BLOOD ON SILK was a great start to the series. ...more
Once again Vicky takes on the task of stopping a killer before she ends up dying herself.
There is a lot of new things resolved, revealed and started. I love reading more about Deadtown the people in it and the things that they have to go through. Vicky and Kane's relationship has grown quite a bit. I was kind of sad with the ending of her "maybe" relationship with Daniel but seeing how much Kane and Vicky have grown together and the situations they go through together in BLOODSTONE I have definitely changed my mind. I actually kind of started to really dislike Daniel, he kinda turned into a jerk. LOVE Aunt Mab, I loved learning more about her and seeing her again. I cant wait to see what else she brings to future books. There wasn't as much action in BLOODSTONE as previous books but the situations were still pretty intense and heart pounding. I'm also interested to see how much more of a role Vicky's sister and her daughter will play in future books after everything that has changed in their lives. If you have not started the Deadtown series yet I would recommend starting at book one and if you have enjoyed the previous books you have to read BLOODSTONE....more
I think the decription of the book is pretty straight forward so I skip the summary part of my review.
I didn't have any troubles getting right into the story. The plot was interesting and unique. The flow had some ups and downs every once in a while but it wasn't a big issue. There are a LOT of characters in ARDEUR. It took me a little bit to figure out who was who, I got really confused when the names started popping up one right after each other. There is an index in the beginning of the book but since its an e-copy its hard to flip back and forth while your reading. As far as the main characters went. I enjoyed Ardeur and the love interest Brody. They had remembered each other over the years and their love for each other comes out instantly. There was one scene when Ardeur and Brody first found each other again that I found to be written kinda badly. The whole situation was extremely awkward, uncomfortable and just didn't mesh with the characters personalities. With the exception of that one scene I found the other scenes between the two easy to get into. The romance was steamy when it needed to be and I felt their love for each other throughout. I would have liked to see some justice done to the people that originally held Ardeur captive, I think it would have done the things she went through justice but I very much enjoyed the ending of the book. This looks to be one of those series that will have a different set of main characters for each book so I will see which character will be up next to decide if I will continue the series. ...more
Another pleasantly surprising book. I never know what I'm going to get when I pick up a new book and it is always nice to get more then you were hopinAnother pleasantly surprising book. I never know what I'm going to get when I pick up a new book and it is always nice to get more then you were hoping for. Gwen is a down to earth gal who turns out to be a very powerful and rear kind of witch. She runs her very own magic store, shares her apartment with her best friend, is still getting over he ex werewolf boyfriend and even though she likes him keeps telling the sexy vampire determined to have her as his no. She offers to help solve the murders of witches and ends up becoming a target herself. There is a bit of a love triangle between Gwen, the ex boyfriend and the Vampire. There are some great and steamy romance scenes. The character development was great and I enjoyed getting to know the different characters. The plot was easy to follow and flowed at a nice pace. The ending UGGH cliffhanger...so painful to have to wait for more. Stephanie really put together a great read and Im glad I got my hands on a copy. Excited to see what comes next....more
MIND OVER MONSTERS ended up being a very pleasant surprise. I was not really crazy with the cover so it took me a bit to want to really read the book but once I picked it up I had no problem getting into the story. Bea was easy to like. She has always known she has magic but was scared of it. She always seemed to end up hurting the people she cared about. In the beginning of the book she is recruited into a secret government agency full of other people with gifts and supernatural status. She ends up finding a place where she fits in even though there are some ups and downs and doubts. There is a bit of a love triangle going on between her a werewolf and a vampire. I'm hoping for some more romance with the next book though as there is not much in this one. There are zombies of course so some of the scenes are pretty gory but there is some great zombie fighting scenes. I enjoyed the entire story. There was plenty of mystery, suspense, investigating, and interesting powers on display. I will definitely read the next F.R.E.A.K Squad book when it comes out. ...more
Another Historical type book that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. Sarah has always been pulled to Salem and after she divorced her husband of 10 years she decided it was time to move there. Sarah has always been plagued with dreams of someone living and dying during the Salem witch trials. After she moves to Salem the nightmares get worse and she finally has a way to peace together the mystery of them. James lost his wife during the Salem witch trials and has never gotten over her. He has lived many lives in many different places throughout the world and finally moves back to Salem and into his home he shared with his wife Elizabeth all those years ago.
The story is set in modern times with flashbacks to the Salem Witch trials.I really enjoyed the flashback dreams and memories. I usually don't get in to Historical type novels but this isn't like those at all. The dreams and memories happen often but they are small (though important) part of the story and they really grab you and make you interested in the little details they reveal. The two realities blended really well and when everything came out to being what it was it was done in a gradual "real" feeling way. I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the storyline, the plot was interesting, and the pace was a bit slow throughout but it was an overall enjoyable book. I'm glad this wasn't a stand alone because I look forward to seeing what happens next for Sarah and James....more
I love when a new book that incorporates the Gods and their gifts comes out. I don't know why it intrigues me so much but it does and I enjoy reading the interpretations of the different myths that authors have for their characters and stories.
Ree and her friends had a great mix of personalities. They are all extremely loyal to each other from the beginning. MORTAL OBLIGATION had a great pace to it. The action and training of the teens was well written and engaging. There was some pretty good twists at the end that I in no way saw coming. I enjoyed the love triangle, I feel both of the romantic interests have enough positive and negative things going for them to make things interesting and it added some great jealousy moments to the book. The biggest complaint I had about the book is the ease that which Ree and her friends believed and accepted all the God gifts and roles they are to play in Ree's Destiny. They were mostly like COOL bring it on, I have vampire teeth hahah (very much paraphrased they didn't really sound like that) when I felt they should have been a bit freaked out at what was happening. All in all this was a great debut novel from a new author. I was kept interested throughout the book and I would enjoy reading what comes next....more
I really enjoyed BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN. The main character Shiloh was a fresh, Snarky, intriguing heroine. I really enjoyed getting to know her as she learned who she was and what she can do. The story was paced perfectly, filled with spooky suspenseful scenes, and great paranormal events. The slowly progressing romance between Shiloh and Trent had its ups and downs and seemed real. Sherry's writing was smooth and descriptive. She made everything flow beautifully. The cover of the book kinda drew me in, I wanted to read BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN before I even saw the description so I'm glad it lived up to my expectations of beautiful cover should equal beautiful book. The book left off at a cliffhanger so I'm interested to see how Shiloh feels about everything that has happened to her when Sherry brings out book 2....more
DARK MAGICK takes place in a post apocalyptic US. Witches are recruited by the government and if you refuse to be with them you are against them. The story is in two different point of views. Lynn and Rhea are both powerful witches and best friends. They are hiding out with a group of other people and are fighting to close the gates to the underworld. The story as a whole was pretty fast paced and had some great scenes. I thought the plot was interesting and original but tended to get confused when the Point of views shifted. I confused the characters often and had to re read passages to make sure my head was in the right frame of mind for which character was talking and where they were in the story. I felt the editing could have been better to fix this. The characters were pretty well written and developed. I enjoyed the little romances that sprung up and the situations that the characters seemed to get themselves in. I think the story has a lot of potential in future editions with all the great powers that are shown in the characters and battles that are ahead for Rhea and Lynn and it will be interesting to see these authors grow in their writing. ...more
I enjoyed Nina from the first chapter. The story was intriguing and filled with information to keep you interested. The book as a whole was super fast and easy to read. The romance and connection between Severin and Nina was apparent from the moment they were introduced. I loved the way the author expressed Nina's flaws. She just wants to be human and nothing else and she really struggles with accepting anything having to do with her mothers side of her heritage. There is a cliffhanger at the end which drags you into being excited about what will come next....more
The Delphic Oracle Novels are so unique. I wasn't sure the whole tarot card oracle storyline would work for me but Alayna Williams does a wonderful job in explaining and laying out all you need to know so that you aren't lost with all the card she pulls. I loved the police like investigating, some of my favorite novels have that in the story and they are always entertaining and attention grabbing. There is plenty of action and the story comes along at a good pace. The characters are enjoyable to read about and follow along with. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes in the future for Alayna and Harry's relationship as well as what is in store for Cassie as she is thrust deeper into getting ready to take of as Pythia....more
