They take a trip to New Orleans to visit Joshua's relatives and Amelia ends up meeting someone that changes her from a ghost who can touch Joshua to a half alive girl that can touch everything but Joshua.
I didn't enjoy ARISE as much as HEREAFTER, I just couldn't get into the story. For half of the book Amelia actually isn't even with Joshua. She leaves him for his own protection while she runs from the darkness that is still chasing her so there isn't much romance. We meet Gabrielle and although she starts out as someone you might not like she ended up being pretty cool and I would like to see more of her in future books. The setting was ok. I love New Orleans so having characters running around it especially with ghosts is understandable. Most of Joshua's young relatives annoyed me and as soon as Amelia and Joshua got into their car to drive home at the end of the book I was relieved to not have to deal with them anymore.
Now that Amelia is visual to everyone but not able to touch Joshua I assume the tragic love story will turn more tragic in book 3. Not sure if I will pick up ELERGY when it comes out but the story has been interesting enough so far....more

Lately Lex has been getting into trouble and her parents send her off with her Uncle Mot for the summer. She quickly realizes that her Uncle is not who she always thought he was and she is following in his footsteps.
Lex really had no clue as to why she was suddenly getting into so much trouble. Her temper was all over the place, she would hit people for no reason and argue with everyone. When her parents told her she was going to her Uncles for the summer she was angry and a little scared that she was going to have to leave her twin sister behind. Lex quickly fell into her new role as a grim reaper and jumped into new friendships and situations. I enjoyed all the other teen grim reapers and it was interesting to learn about the different roles they played. Everyone but Lex comes from tragedy somehow and that makes Lex a bit different from them. From the beginning she can do things that no one else can and that plays a big role in the events of CROAK.
There was a great amount of humor, complex characters and an interesting town that was fun to navigate. The world building was neat. The Grim's source of travel and power was unique. There were a few slow parts but they in no way took away any of my interest in the story. The events at the end of CROAK were a bit easy to predict. I know it will play a huge role in the events of book 2. I have a few theories on why Lex is how she is that I'm hoping will be revealed quickly so I'm excited to get a hold of SCORCH to see if I'm right. ...more

She is happily content working to save money to pay for the car she wants, hanging with friends and being on her own. There is something about her co worker Caleb that Samara just doesn't get. She constantly see's him with girls fawning all over him and has caught him locking lips with many different ladies as well. But one day after the girl he is locking lips with is found passed out with with a heart attack she starts thinking more about Caleb and decides to see what he is really about.
Samara is pretty well grounded for a teen. She is an only child (well she has step twins but they don't live with her) from a broken marriage, which thankfully her parents still get along really well after. She has a great sense of humor and isn't afraid to tell people what is on her mind. LIVING VIOLET was a super easy flowing read. Events happened at a great pace and I had a great time getting into all everything that was happening and trying to figure out what the heck Caleb really was. The relationship between Samara and Caleb flows at a slow pace but they seem pretty connected from the beginning. The whole mystery of what Caleb is was revealed about midway through, but the book didn't slow down at all. It continued to be full of suspense and mystery. The ending wow, so wasn't expecting that outcome. The next book should definitely be interesting. I didn't go into LIVING VIOLET super excited to read it but I came out excited for book 2....more

I had a hard time connecting with Grace and figuring out where she was going with all her nature talk and investigating. It is definitely written a little different than the other books I normally read. After a few chapters I got to know Grace's situation and personality a little better and grew to like her back to nature attitude, the way she doesn't give up on things and the fact that she could take care of herself.
The story ended up getting a little dark and intense, and there are a few cringe worthy moments. The story definitely had a way of throwing the unexpected at you which I enjoyed. Some of the situations seem a bit unbelievable at times but other times you get into the groove and the scenes make more sense and flow a little better. I never guessed who some of the bad guys were as well as getting some of the bad guy guesses completely wrong and it was nice to be surprised at their reveals. By the end I was thoroughly engrossed in the plot and just when I thought the story would would be ending one way Ms Johannes threw in another curve ball at the story. UNTRACEABLE ending with a nice little cliffhanger that makes me want to see what comes of some new information. UNTRACEABLE doesn't have any paranormal or fantasy like situations but It was still a nice read for those looking for a YA novel....more

On what she thinks is her Seventeenth (which she finds out later is really her Eighteenth) Birthday she is attacked and almost killed after ice skating at night by herself and from the moment she again wakes up in a hospital room her life is not the same.
I found Mikayla to be annoyingly stubborn at a lot of turns and it made me want to knock her upside the head and tell her to open her eyes and cut the crap. She put things off because she didn't want to believe them which ended up making things worse. After everything she has been through in the book some of the easiest most logical things were the hardest for her to digest. Like I said, annoyingly stubborn. I like Lucas, he is mysterious, dangerous and all around knight in wolf armor. He is Mikayla's Sentry and wants to keep her safe even though Mikayla does everything to make it difficult. There isn't any romance in WATCHED but I'm hoping the next book will get into a more romantic state between the two of them. I enjoyed finding out the secrets that were Mikayla and her past. I was a little frustrated at times that more wasn't revealed. Even at the end of the book there is still a ton of mystery and not a lot of answers. Even after saying that I still found the book fascinating and want to know more about Mikayla, her skills, her past and where she goes next with hopefully Lucas by her side....more
HERE was an interesting read. I wasn't sure where it was going in the beginning but by about 1/2 way through it makes sense. Julia and her best frien HERE was an interesting read. I wasn't sure where it was going in the beginning but by about 1/2 way through it makes sense. Julia and her best friend Monica were in a car accident and Julia is the only one who survived. She is racked with survivors guilt and has given up on everyone and everything in her life. When Evan starts paying attention to her she has no idea what to think and has no idea why she suddenly feels connected to him.
Julia was extremely depressed and depressing to watch for a good chunk of the book but she did come out of that and started to become interested in life again. She was a likable character and I had no troubles connecting to her and her feelings. Evan was extremely mysterious. For half of the book you are in total darkness to what is going on but once it hits the halfway point things start to be revealed at a nice pace. The love triangle was a bit weird but I think book 2 will give us a better play out of that.
I cant say some of the things I want to without spoiling the main reveal in the storyline but I felt the first half was well paced and explained in a nice paced fashion. The second half felt rushed and didnt feel as well developed.
Overall the idea behind HERE kept me interested as the story progressed but the ending fell short for me. HERE really ended up being one of those books that is interesting enough that you have to know what the outcome of things are and you don't really get that at the end so you want to read the next book so you have a bit of closure. I'm not sure that I would go out of my way to get the information from book 2 but if I get a chance to review it I will probably do that....more

I'm going to start of saying I LOVE the cover. It definitely caught my attention. Tess Grew up in a home where her and her mother were beaten by her father. She has always been drawn to the Dragonswood even though she was forbidden to enter it. When she is accused of being a witch it starts a dangerous and suspenseful time on the run with her 2 closest friends where she learns things she never would have though possible.
DRAGONSWOOD has some great characters and character development. The plot had a few slow points that tended to be a bit frustrating but so much happens in the book that I had no issues getting swept up in the story once things got moving again. The book is filled with mystical creatures which includes both Dragons and Fairies as well as other things. The mystery, adventure and surprises were plentiful. I would have liked some more action though. The romance was frustrating and filled with tension but Tess and Garth complemented each other perfectly. The Huntsman Garth is full of mystery and surprises all in his own. Tess has to make some touch decisions but has some great help in the people around her. Overall DRAGONSWOOD was a nice read and I would recommend it to fantasy lovers....more

Emma started the series thinking she was normal not knowing anything about her powers or the world that she was born into. Throughout DECEPTION and BETRAYAL She has grown into a powerful Ghostkeeper. She has had loyal friends and family behind her, has lost people she cared about and has fought on the side of good.
Emma has been a great strong character throughout the series. She was easy to follow along with and connect to. Emma grew into herself through all the things that were thrown at her and came out ahead even when the odds were against her. Bennett and Emma's relationship has taken the long route but in SURRENDER their emotions and struggles as they fought for each other came through the pages and made the ending of the story that much better.
While SURRENDER did a great job building up suspense and mystery and had some great action thrown into the mix I felt the conclusion of the battles with Neos left me lacking the sense of satisfaction I would have liked to see with its conclusion. The Haunting Emma series was still a great series and I would recommend it to any YA ghost lover....more
S.M. Reine brings us a new take on how werewolf's came to be in SIX MOON SUMMER. Rylie the main character is sent to camp for the summer while her parents go through a divorce. She does not want to be there and spends a lot of time in her room which causes people to single her out as "freak". There is a small bit of romance. The love interest Seth comes along and seems to know all about what Rylie is going through after she is attacked and finds herself back in her cabin mysteriously. Throughout the summer he is there for her every step of the way. The story has some great twists and turns. I didn't expect some things to happen and didn't see other things happening the way they did until they were revealed which is always refreshing. There were some great emotional scenes thrown in that had me feeling things right beside Rylie. I had no problem connecting to the situations and the tears were flowing at one point pretty good. I wasn't happy with the ending, All this stuff happened throughout the book and Rylie went through so much and the ending made me feel very unfulfilled. Since this is the first book in a planned series I have to hope that the next book will bring me some satisfaction. If you enjoy YA werewolf books I think you would enjoy this just be prepared for a big cliffhanger at the end. ...more
Brusenna one day while in town is accused of stealing and saved from humiliation and pain by a woman that claims to know her mother. Shortly after that her mother is kidnapped by a crazy witch looking for more power and Brusenna with the help of her guardian Joshen embark on a journey of discovery while trying to save her.
Bruesenna (Senna) has always been shunned by her village and called a witch like it was a bad thing. Since that is all she has ever known she is shocked to find out that she is part of a much bigger whole of witches that use witch song to do good for the world. I loved the world that Amber was able to create. It was imaginative and filled with a great array of characters and situations. Senna has to grow up a lot in a short amount of time and learn to depend on others. She is so used to people hating her and losing people she cares about that she pushes people away to keep them safe. Joshen was a great character from the moment he was introduced. He had always wanted to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a guardian, he fell in love with Senna from the moment he saw her. He was protective, loyal and all around a great romantic partner when the two finally realized they both felt the same way about each other. The magic was different and I enjoyed the action that went along with it. All the witches were interesting to read about and came in an array of personalities. I really want to read more so I hope this will be one of many books for Senna and the witches....more
Jael is a teenager who has known she was part demon for a while. Her dad has moved her around a lot to stay ahead of the Demons that are trying to kill her because she is a "half breed". Jael is attending a catholic school and finally is setting down roots, she has a best friend and a sorta kinda boyfriend who ends up being pretty awesome when everything starts picking up in her life. Her dad starts off being really distant, he keeps Jael in the dark and refuses to tell her anything about her mother or herself really. Its apparent over time he does it out of love and fear. We get flashes of him and Jael's mother from the past throughout the story and it shows just how kick butt he use to be and the love that they had for each other. These flashbacks were my favorite part of the book, I felt they were better written and more engaging then other parts. I really liked Jael's Uncle Dagon, he was super supportive of Jael and tries to help her figure out what her demon side can do, although I wish we found out why he is the way he is as it mentions that he didn't use to look the way he looks now. There is some interesting action scenes at the end of the book where Jael has to fight some of the bad guys and gets a taste of what she is made of. I wish Jon would have done some more scenes in hell, throughout the book they talk about how it isn't what people say its like yet there is only one scene where Jael is there and its thin on details. Im not sure if I would read a book 2 but MISFIT was interesting enough if you want to grab a copy from your library....more
The book starts out emotionally with Mo waking up in the hospital after being attacked to find out that her very best friend is dead. That sets off events that reveal that Mo didn't know Verity quiet as well as she thought she did and Mo is determined to find out what exactly is going on. I enjoyed the characters in TORN. Mo was a "good girl" and got sick of it so she finally starts doing things for herself which causes a bit of friction with the family she thought she knew. Mo has two love interests, Luc who is a mystery in itself. She doesn't quite know which or whose side he is on but she is attracted to him all the same. Colin is a protector and determined to keep Mo safe, not only because its his duty to do so but because he falls for her pretty quickly. Mo quickly finds out that she will have to play a big part in saving magic for magic users even though she doesn't have any magic herself. She is put in danger multiple times and has a hard time trying to figure out what path she wants to take. The pacing of TORN was done really well, I had no trouble turning the pages eager to find out what would happen next. I did find that some parts of the book came off kinda whiny but it was minor and was easy to overlook. All in all TORN had some good mystery, a hot guy love triangle and likable characters. Book two TANGLED is expected in February of 2012....more
Its very rare that you come across a mermaid book so when I had a chance to read this wonderful sounding book I jumped right on board. I really enjoyed Tempest's story. Growing up she always knew on her seventeenth birthday she would change into a mermaid and have to choose the life she wanted to live, human or mermaid. All the struggles she went through were gripping and real. She has always said she would never choose to be mermaid that she would choose to be human 100% but she finds out there is so much more involved. BUT I really enjoyed TEMPEST RISING because the struggle wasn't only choosing between land and sea, she had to choose between so much more. The supporting characters were all interesting and there is an actual villain that kind of reminding me of the little mermaid. There is some great romance involving a fellow sea shifter that from the time Tempest lays eyes on him she cant get him out of her mind. They both feel right together, all of the situations they are in come off genuine and heartfelt. I really enjoyed TEMPEST RISING it was fun, entertaining, and refreshing. I really want to see this turn into a series if it isn't already planned as one....more
This is the first book in the series that I have read, you definitely miss out on some background and relationship development but over all it was pretty easy to follow along with the plot. Sunny really wants to live a normal life but things keep getting thrown at her to make it clear she will never have one. There is even some background story in the beginning to help catch you up which really did help. A big part of the story is the love triangle that is going on between Sunny, Marcus and Jayden. Sunny is completely and totally conflicted and trying to figure out who she really wants while also helping to stop a war. The story as a whole was an easy read with a few slow points. I felt the way Sunny talks (slang wise) to be a tad bit annoying at some points but overall she was a like-able character as were all the rest of the characters I got to know. I liked how the book ended, it was the end yet the beginning of something else instead of being a big cliffhanger. If you have enjoyed the books in the Blood Coven Vampire series I'm sure you will enjoy the addition, if you have yet to pick one up yet but don't want to start at the beginning you will have no problem jumping in with BLOOD TIES....more
BETWEEN ended up being a neat, different love story that I wasn't expecting to be so emotional. I think BETWEEN would be perfect for the older YA readers as there are some adult themes involved but there isn't anything to graphic. Lindsey was a likable main character. I had no issues connecting to her and her situation. Aiden was also easy to like and get to know. Its hard to talk about this book without giving away a bit of a spoiler so read ahead at your own risk. Lindsey ends up in an accident and she ends up in an in between place where she meets Aiden and falls in love. An unseen event pulls Lindsey out of the in between place and she has to cope with losing Aiden. The story ends up being pretty emotional and heartfelt. The chapters and situations flow nicely and pull you in throughout the book. Overall I ended up enjoying the story and was really happy with how everything ended.
Engaging, emotional, roller coaster of a debut. Lenzi thinks she is going insane like her father and is trying to hold her self together. She hears voices and sees things that no one else does. Her boyfriend Zak tries to be helpful but is slowly starting to think she is crazy too, then Alden appears and everything is slowly revealed to her and starts making sense.
I loved the plot. The fact that Lenzi and Alden have reincarnated together over and over throughout time was highly enjoyable to read about. Although I loved Lenzi, Alden was my favorite character. I was drawn to him from the moment he showed up in the story. Lenzi has always been everything he ever needed and it shows. The more time they spend together the more we learn about their past and why Lenzi doesn't remember all she is supposed to in this lifetime. There was always something coming out that I would have never guessed and when all was revealed I was still shocked. The gorgeous cover pulled me in and the story kept me reading, I am hooked and excited to read more. ...more
I loved the cover for UNNATURAL, Unfortunately that is all I loved about it. I liked it so little I couldn’t even finish the book and that is very rare for me. I think I didn’t even get half way through it until I had to put it down and move onto something else. The whole plot just didn’t do anything for me. It was slow and there was way to much info added in that wasn’t needed that made it drag on even more. Because I only got at the most halfway through the book I can only speak of that portion. The writing was slow, the events were boring, the characters were blah, it was all together just lacking what I would need to get into the book. So my final thought to you is I'm glad I didn’t pay for this as I would have returned it the same day =(...more
BREATH OF ANGEL was a neat story. While reading int he beginning I wasn't quite sure what I thought about the whole concept of Melaia being a priestess and the introduction of the angels but it ended up flowing together pretty well. I enjoyed the mixture of modern and old, It wasn't really one way or the other but ended up being its own time and it blended the world together well. Melaia grew up wanting to travel but didn't think it would happen until she was pretty much sold to the king and sent off to another area. I felt Karyn did a good job of describing the places in the book so you could picture them as Melaia traveled. One of the things I had issues with was the flow of the plot. I felt kind rushed and scrunched at times and stretched and drawn out at other times like things had to be cut or filled to fit as needed. I also felt there was a lot of different things going on that kinda made some things unbelievable. I would give you examples but there would be some major spoilers in them so I will just leave it at that. I enjoyed the different type of characters. There were angels, Nephilim, shifters, as well as some other creatures no one has ever used before called a Drak which is a bird like creature with human hands, the human hands being from the person that the Drak was made form. Kinda creepy but fits the book well. All together BREATH OF ANGEL really was a neat and different take on how Angels came to be on earth with different myths that kept me interested. I would like to see what comes next in Melaia's life....more
I really enjoyed BLOODSPELL, It was unique with a great mix of dark elements. The main character Victoria (Tori) was strong and willful. She is thrust into a world she had no idea that existed and to top it off she is more powerful then anyone could imagine but she didn't take anything sitting down and was determined to come out on the good side. Christian Devereux is an old vampire that refuses to give up his humanity. Although a relationship is forbidden between vampires and witches, Tori and Christian are drawn together from the moment they meet and fight for each other. Every scene drew me in to the next and kept me on the edge of my seat. All the different abilities and talents were completely believable. I'm excited to see where Amalie takes Tori next. ...more
