My blood sugars are lower, I have more energy, and I'm sleeping better.
It's going to be challenging, because I'm not a fan of most legumes, but I'm giving it the old college try. (less)

It's cute, funny, a fast read.
But I'm in agreement with some of my fellow book club members--I would like to see Stephanie grow, make some decisions (especially about her love life) that find her moving ahead a little. Our girl seems kind of stuck in the same old rut, in her personal and professional lives.
When I think of Stephanie's character, I'm reminded of the times in my life when I've been stuck, afraid to move forward, mired in indecision, confusion, and frustration. For me, something has usually happened to bitch slap me out of my funk (a broken heart, health or financial crisis), so that I finally get off the fence and do something with my life instead of just thinking about it!
So I'm hoping Janet E. gives Stephanie a crisis, something, to wake her up and get her out of this rut. (less)

This book was okay, but Reichs has an annoying habit (at least to me) of ending her chapters with a sentence or two that attempts to be a cliff hanger. I prefer more subtle attempts to keep me reading.
And Tempe seems to be stuck in her life, not really happy, way too focused on work, etc. In the television series "Bones," Tempe's relationship with Booth forces Tempe to look at her life in a new way, take chances. And she's got good friendships with the people she works with; the book Tempe really has no friends.
I do not plan to read another book in this series, at least not right now. I'll focus on watching the characters develop on the television series (as long as the quality stays good).(less)

Harry's up to his old tricks, trying to protect Murphy by lying to her. Harry's a slow learner when it comes to strong women; Murphy does not need anyone's protection. The push-pull between these two characters is kind of fun. They like each other, a lot, but drive each other crazy. A match made in heaven.
I found the final battle between Harry and the wolves drawn out a bit too much; I felt that Butcher could have wrapped things up quicker.
But I enjoy this series, and will start looking for book three very soon.(less)

Storm Front is the first book in the Dresden Files series about wizard/private investigator Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Dresden can barely pay his office rent, he can't get a date, and he has the knack of making everyone around him miserable.
Storm Front is Jim Butcher's first book, and despite being a bit melodramatic at times, I've been assured that the books that follow are more polished.
This is a fun book, and an easy read.
I'm now reading Fool Moon, book two of the series.(less)

I work hard, and when I come home from work I want to relax, unwind, and zone out, and murder in the 11th House helped me do this!
I finished this book tonight while soaking in nice warm bubble bath.
David Lowell is an astrological detective. I don't know anything about astrology, except that I'm a Leo. I've never been that interested in astrology, but I like the characters that author Mitchell Scott Lewis has created in this book.
Lowell has an entourage helping him solve the murder of a New York City judge--his daughter, a personal computer hacker, a fashionable assistant, and a chauffeur/bodyguard (and Julia, his live-in housekeeper, except she's more of a major domo).
To round out the cast of quirky characters, there's a police detective who thinks he's caught his suspect, a foul-mouthed bartender named Johnny who's been accused of blowing up the judge, and a host of bad guys.
It's a fast-paced and fun read, and dang it, this book made me smile (and I need to smile more).

My favorite books have characters that I would like to know in real life, wish I could know, because they possess the good and bad human traits that make a human being. This adds life to the story , allowing me to get caught up in what's happening. How do the characters get through the trials that the author is putting them through? Are they changed by the story's events?
Good story, satisfying end, and I'm wondering what life looks like for the main characters five years after the book ends.

Cold Vengeance tells a fast-paced, solid story, picking up where Fever Dream left off.
FBI Agent Pendergast, still haunted by the murder of his wife Helen, discovers that his brother-in-law is the keeper of some monstrous secrets. Pendergast's search for the truth leads him into some dangerous situations, as always, with his colleague Lt. D'Agosta helping out minimally this time. The loot is still recovering from what happened to him in Fever Dream, and Pendergast feels the situation is too dangerous.
Cold Vengeance ends with a cliff hanger, and the promise of the next Pendergast book.
Hopefully I'm on the mend, and will finish another book soon!

I figured out "who done it" early in the story, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.
