It was a really fun and quick read. Maya is very independent and strong but can be feisty! She had a tough past and had to create a new life for herself to move away from it. Derek is the handsome-nerdy type who also has a tough past as well. He hides his emotion and makes others think he don't have any but as Maya and Derek spends more time together, it's starting to get harder for him to hide them. I love the banter between Maya and Derek. It's so funny and witty. The romance in this story was a slow build up, which I like. I was hoping to read more about them at the end when they got together.
Overall, this story was well written and a fun read. I think those looking for a funny and quick chick-lit should definitely check this one out. ...more

I went into this book not knowing what to expect and WOW! It blew me away!!! I loved every bit of it. I'll try to keep this spoiler free! =D
I love Cali's character! She's strong, independent, and kick-ass! After her parents passed away, Cali moved to the city to live with her aunt after being raised in the mountains, isolated from everyone and everything else for 17 years. Cali had a hard time fitting in at school, but she didn't change her appearance to fit in, she didn't change anything about herself like what I would imagine most people would do in her situation, and I admire her for that. I love the fact that throughout the whole book she stayed true to herself even though she was so isolated from the world since birth. I really like how she's such an intelligent, and smart person but when it comes down to simple stuff like everyday life things, she's so naive and ignorance, and never took things for granted. It made her character very cute and likable. I really like her ability to see peoples emotions. I think that's a pretty cool ability to have. The description of how Cali sees, feels, and tastes peoples emotions were well written because I can totally imagine how it would happen in my head. With Cali having the ability to see peoples emotion, she was taught to keep it a secret and never trust anyone. After meeting Calvin and seeing how determine he his to getting to know the girl who saved his life, Cali finds herself struggling to protect her secret.
Calvin, Oh Calvin! I love you! You're the bad boy all girls should avoid and yet when your curiosity gets the best of you, you're just so determined huh? Calvin is full of arrogance and confidence when it comes to girls, but after meeting Cali, he starts to doubt himself and doesn't act like himself at all. I love how we were able to see the changes Calvin goes through after meeting Cali. It really shows how much he cares for her because he doesn't treat her like how he does to other girls. Being with Cali makes him want to be a better person, make a better life for himself, and follow his dreams that were long forgotten. Calvin's character is just so irresistible!!! His brother, Jarod and his girlfriend Crystal were pretty cool. They were really supportive of Calvin and Cali. I hope they show up in the next book.
I really like the romance in this book. It was a slow build up and that's what makes it so good! I don't really like the whole insta-love crap. The relationship these two characters have is so realistic. I think some people could definitely relate to it. They both connect and understand each other. They both know the pain of losing someone, struggling with life, falling in love for the first time. Watching these two fall in love with each other was one of the best parts about the book.
Professor Teddy, Layla, Michael, and Max...they didn't really show up until the middle and towards the end of the book. Professor Teddy, is the typical crazy scientist who wants to make the world better by doing unethical experiments involving the Athena Effect. After finding out that Cali is alive, he'll do anything to get her in his possession. Layla and Michael are two kids that were raised by Professor Teddy after their parents passed away. I really feel sorry for Layla and Michael. They are controlled by Professor Teddy. He will only let them do things if Layla does her job well. Max, works for Professor Teddy, but has an agenda of his own to take over. These are definitely some characters I want to know more about.
The first half of this book was about the building of Cali and Calvin's relationship, which I enjoyed reading. The climax happened about halfway through the book and I think it was well developed because it was something I really didn't expect. Professor Teddy is definitely one to keep an eye on. =) Overall the story line and plot were beautifully written! It had a bit of everything from, romance and humor to kidnappings and betrayals. I love how Derrolyn was able to make me, as a reader, feel the emotions of what each character goes through, and I think that's what makes her an amazing writer! I was sucked into this book from the beginning to the very end. This was my first time reading any of Derrolyn Anderson's books and definitely won't be the last!! Thank you Derrolyn for sharing your amazing work! Will definitely be looking forward to reading the rest of Cali and Calvin's story! =)...more

It was a cute, fun short read. But I wish it was longer. Why couldn't it be longer??? Why? This story makes me want to go into a coffee shop and check out guys. lol This story starts off as girl meets boy in coffee shop, but they never talked to each other. Instead boy, passes a note to her. They end up having a flirty note passing thing for the next few days. They run into each other at a store, and call each other Cafe Mocha and Espresso Macchiato! Haha The whole note passing between the two characters is so elementary yet adorable!!! Really liked this story, left me wanting more! ...more

This book had me captivated from the beginning. The world Sarah Beth Durst created was amazing. Love the whole concept of magic, sand wolves, desert gods, goddess, and vessels. Liyana was really a likeable main character. She is very strong and resourceful but not without vulnerability. I really liked Korbyn. He was definitely one of the characters that stood out to me. He's the type of character that grows on you throughout the story, and one that you just can't help but like. I like the other vessels as well, they all had their own personalities that really contributed to their journey to help save the gods. Knowing what will happen to the vessels in the end broke my heart! I don't know what I would do if I were in their situation. The thought of wanting to live and yet at the same time sacrifice myself to help those I care and love is unbearable.
I love the romance between Liyana and Korbyn, even though it was never meant to happen. They went through a lot together and that's what stirred up feelings between the two of them. I'm not so sure about what went on between Liyana and the emperor. I know they both have the determination to do what is right for their people but there wasn't any build up or chemistry between the two of them. I think it would have been great if we were able to learn more about the emperor and his people.
The first half of the story was great and a bit slow paced, but you get to see into each of the tribes' culture and folklore as Liyana and Korbyn travels in search of the other vessels. What I didn't like was that I feel as though the ending of the book was a bit rushed. So much happened and it just went by to fast. Overall, the idea of the story is amazing, and unique. It is a well written book, but not without its flaws. The ending was definitely a bittersweet ending for me. ...more

It starts off with Gen, (Eugenides), going around snooping through the Queen of Atollia's palace. She knows that he's there because he would leave behind little things here and there to let her know he's been there. So she plans to capture him and let him know just how ruthless the Queen of Atollia can be. Gen's life changes dramatically, but he eventually learns to accept it. The three countries Sounis, Eddis, and Attolia goes to war with each other, while the Medes lie and wait with their own agendas to try and take over all three countries.
In the beginning, I didn't really like the Queen of Attolia, I was mad at her for doing what she did to Gen, but I understood her actions, and why she did it. With her Barons not backing her up, she had to take care of everything herself to protect and defend her country. You get to see many different sides of the Queen of Attolia, her strong, intelligent side, then also her more vulnerable, emotional side, and how she became the Queen and why she is so ruthless. Gen's is still one of my favorite characters in this series! He's still the same old witty, sarcastic, brave, and self-less person, but his life has definitely changed. He becomes depressed, a little whiny, and sulky in this book, but towards the end, he learns to takes control of his life and accept it for the better.
There wasn't really any romance in this book, more about politics, war, betrayal, but you do get to see how Gen feels about the Queen of Attolia. The Queen of Eddis shows up a lot in this book, as well as Gen's father. The Queen of Eddis is intelligent, and will do anything to protect her country. With the help of her cousin Gen, he comes up with a plan to help the Queen of Eddis secure and protect their country. I love how protective Eddis is with Gen. She always listens to his reasons and never sided with anyone when there is a complaint about him. She looks to him for support. Gen is one who everyone hates at first but eventually warms up to. Even his own cousins who hates him went to war over him. =)
Overall, Turner is amazing with words. She goes into details with words when describing the different scenes in the book and brings it to life. She really shows us the depths in her characters in a way that did not happen in The Thief. The story line for this book definitely sets it up for the next book. Gen's life and adventure in the next book, I say, would be one that you wouldn't want to miss. I really enjoyed reading this book and definitely going to read the next book The King of Attolia. ...more

The world andI almost passed this book over but my sister insisted that I read this book. And I'm so glad that I read it. Megan is a creative writer. The world and characters she created were very likable. There's humor, adventure, and political intrigue. The book is a little slow but it really builds up, and the ending is enormously satisfying.
Gen claims to be the best thief in all of Sounis. After being caught stealing one of the king's prized possessions and showing it off, he ended up locked up in prison. The king's scholar decides to use Gen to find the Hamiathes Gift. Together Gen, Magus, and three other companions set off on a journey to chase after an ancient treasure no has never seen, but only heard of through myths. They faced many obstacles during their journey but always overcome them.
I think the plot was well thought out. It can be confusing if you aren’t paying attention, but if you, are you will enjoy this book a lot. I really liked Gen, he is clever and sly and so conceited! I love all his witty comments and banters with his traveling companions. It was slow paced at some parts in the book but overall I really liked it. I heard the next two books are a lot better than the first. So I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series, The Queen of Attolia, and The King of Attolia....more

Pia is sti I was super excited when I heard that Pia and Dragos were getting another book. I love their relationship and how they balance each other. Pia is still the same from the first book, still kick-ass, strong, and doesn't take bull-shit from anyone. Only thing is, she's pregnant. =) Dragos is also still the same, but you definitely get to see a different side of him in this book. He definitely loves and cares for Pia. I love how he isn't afraid to show how much he values Pia. All the scene's with Pia and Dragos are sweet and soo swoon worthy! =D I love Peanut! He's just a baby but he's so awesome already! Would definitely want to read about him when he's older.
This book also introduces new characters that are kick-ass! I think Eva and her gang are awesome! They started off as just guards for Pia when she traveled to South Carolina, but after everything they went through together, they became friends. I'm so happy Quienten was in this book. Although we didn't get to see much of him in the first book, I've been intrigued with him since then. I think something will definitely happen between him and Aryal. Alex, the pegasus, is an interesting character. I hope we see more of him in future Elder Races books. *I hope he gets his own book. =P*
This book did not disappoint. I loved everything. Thea Harrison did an amazing job bringing back Pia and Dragos. She was able to make Pia and Dragos relationship sexy, and just as funny as the first book. I don't think I can ever get tired of Pia and Dragos. =) Lord's Fall had a great storyline with some pretty awesome new characters that are just developing. It had everything from romance and humor to action and drama. It was an amazing book, and definitely looking forward to reading the next one. ...more

I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. The world she created is not the pretty and perfect world. It literally sucks! Everything is falling apart and Juliette gets thrown into it. She has been in isolation in 264 days, don't know what is going on in the outside world. People are starving, rivals are fighting for control. History is being erased so a new world can be built.
I really liked the characters in this book. I love how Tahereh brought Juliette to life using her words. Her writing made me feel for Juliette. I felt for her when she was taken away from her parents, and they didn't even try to help her. I cared for her when she spent 264 days in isolation with no one to talk to. I worried for her when she screams from her nightmares and wishes that she never has to sleep. I liked how she gave so much to others and never asked for anything in return. All she wanted was to be accepted and not seen as a monster. She was a fighter and never gave up when Warner tempted her with luxury. She's gifted and I hope we get to see more of it in the next book.
Adam, the love interest, just seems too good to be true! Why can't all guys be like him? =P At first I was kind of hesitant about him, until I later found out that they new each other since third grade, although they never talked to each other. Their relationship in the book is SO intense! There quite a few parts in this book that were hot!! =) Adam is so loyal and determined that he was willing to sacrifice himself to help Juliette get out of the horrible institution. In walks Warner, the villain. He's an interesting character. I want to know more about him. You just can't help but like him. Yeah he's the bad ass in the story who wants nothing but control and power, but I just feel like there's a lot more to him. When Juliette joked about "Your poor mother" he was so alarmed and had this unguarded look on his face, it just makes you wonder about his relationship with his mother, was is a good one or bad one? Did he love her? What happened to her? I hope we get the chance to see his side of the story.
Overall, this book is a five star! I love where Tahereh is going with the story, everything opens up in the end makes you wondering what will happen next. I was so engrossed in this book that the next thing I know, I was reading the last page of the book. I couldn't believe I finished it within a few hours. That's how good it was. This book is a definitely must read! I look forward to reading the next book in this series. Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) expected publication date is February 5th 2013....more

I'm not usually into horror stuff. I can't even stand watching horror movies. I'm a chicken! But when my sister told me about this book, I was hesitant because she said it was suppose to be a creepy/scary book. When I finally got the book in the mail, it sat on my bookshelf for a few days. One night I finally decided to read and Oh man! The first few chapters freaked me out, but I got over it. After that I was just so into the book that I didn't really care anymore.
I really like that the story was from a male's POV. That's just something you never really get to see in a lot of books. Kendare Blake is definitely an author to watch! This wasn't just your typical boy-meets-girl and fall in love. Through out the book you can see that Cas was just slowly falling for Anna. Anna's story is so sad. You can't help but feel sorry for her. I loved all the characters! They were all a bunch of funny characters that kept this book together. You can see that in the beginning Cas was a lonely teen who kept others at arms length because of his lifestyle, but when he became friends with Carmel and Thomas, he started to open up and live an actual teen life.(well just a little) =)
Overall, I love that this book had a little of everything, romance, horror, humor, thriller, and mystery. I found that it did not lack in anything at all. Certain parts of the book definitely creeped me out and other parts had me laughing. It was an awesome read. I'll definitely be checking out the next book for this series. ...more
