This book is a very short read, which I appreciated. I did not want to spend a bunch of time that I should be organizing reading about getting organized. Because this is a short read, it only has very basic information and already known information about getting organized. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. It can give a quick boost to people who already really know what to do but just need another quick kick in the butt to do it. Do not expect a thorough, detailed, innovative method here. If you go in realizing that this is a very basic guide with simple tips to get you motivated, then it may be worth the read. I downloaded this book as a free read from the Kindle Bookstore. ...more

Maude cooks, cleans, and babysits, and, at the end of the night, she sleeps in the dark, rat infested basement on an uncomfortable mattress. Maude loves to sing and play the piano, but her foster parents do not even know of her talents. One day while visiting Paris, Maude is discovered by a record producer and eventually offered the opportunity to move to New York and record an album. However the offer is met with resistance from Maude’s foster parents.
This was a surprisingly good read. Maude, Matt, and the Baldwins are all interesting and likable characters. The coming to stardom story was interesting. Readers will also get to see the challenges that Maude faced with her school friends, singing rivals, and her foster parents.
I read this book with my nieces, who are ages 8 and 11 and have a pretty advanced reading level. The content was good for their ages and reading levels, even though this was probably more of a teen book.

In this story, a rocking horse restorer, Caz Tallis, ends up harboring Ric Kealy, a rock star who faked his death after being accused of a murder that he may or may not have committed. Kealy ends up enlisting Tallis to help him solve the murder mystery.
The great thing about this book is that, although the premise is a little far fetched, the reader never really has to take it too seriously. This was a light, fun, entertaining, cozy style mystery with a little bit of romance thrown in, as well. All the fun and entertainment will make you forget any flaws. There are good twists, and I stayed interested throughout the whole story. The characters are likable and interesting, too.
This is a British book, but the difference in English was not as heavy as it is in some British books. Most will hardly notice the language differences. This is a good light read, especially if you were able to get it for free. ...more

This book involves the mother of all conspiracies. Private investigator Dana Cutler sees the president of the United States and a young woman in an suggestive situation. That woman is later found dead, and her death may be linked to other deaths and disappearances. Cutler is caught in the in the middle and in danger as a result.
This book read like a movie, but in a good way. There was a lot of compelling action in the beginning that went on for quite a while. There are several characters to keep up with, but everything is linked well enough, that it would be difficult to get lost. The book and action does slow down a little in the second half when the council is trying to determine if and how the president may be invloved with the scandal. However, the book was still interesting to the end.
Like others, I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. Cutler did not seem like the most endearing character either, since she seemed to be greatly driven by money. Her romantic relationship took a big turn at the end of the book, but there was really no development of it before then. Really, the inclusion of Jake seemed to be just for convenience in that it gave Cutler an alternate place to stay and vehicle to drive, which happened while Jake was away from home anyway. I do realize that this is a book in a series, so maybe that relationship becomes more important in later books.
Overall, this was an action packed, interesting read. I would not have been upset if I had paid a few dollars for it....more
This short story is the second of three prequels to the upcoming novel The Returned. I downloaded this for free from the Kindle bookstore. This reviewThis short story is the second of three prequels to the upcoming novel The Returned. I downloaded this for free from the Kindle bookstore. This review is based on the short story only and not the excerpt.
In The Returned, this story and the other prequels, and the upcoming television series, people are mysteriously returning from the dead as if nothing has happened. However, life has gone on for their family and friends, and no one knows what to make of the returned.
In this story, a couple finds one of the returned, a little girl named Tatiana, and takes her home until they can figure out what to do. This story had so much more to it than The First. There was a sufficient amount of compelling backstory for Tatiana to make the reader care for her. The reader not only had the opportunity to connect with Tatiana, but also with the couple that found her, Heather and Matt, and the tension that rises between them as a result of Tatiana being in their home. It was nice to get a perspective from people who did not know the one who had returned in the story beforehand.
To me, this story gave a much better set up for the novel than The First did. The story here was much more engaging and interesting. There was just the right amount of backstory, emotions, relationships, and tension to keep the reader interested and wanting more, which I assume is the purpose of these stories.
Before I read this story, I had already read The First and then watched the preview for the series. This story sparked my interest the most of the three activities. I am now looking forward to the third preview, The Choice and the full novel....more

The basic premise of the book, this story, and the upcoming television series is that people are mysteriously returning from the dead as if nothing has happened. However, life has gone on for their family and friends, and no one knows what to make of the returned.
In this story, the first known of "The Returned," Edmund, shows up at work a year after his death from being hit by a bus. His fiancé, Emily, sees him on television after she though that she had dealt with the loss. She decides to try to make her way to him, and runs into an accident of her own.
This story is a reunion of two loves, but I did not feel any connection to the characters. I understand that this is a short story/teaser, but there was not enough here for me. There was very little backstory for the characters, and I just could not feel the love and urgency as a result. I also found the reactions to the return of Edmund to be a little too easy. Emily's mother, for example, took it all in stride, while Emily did at least struggle a little with Edmund's return.
I have to say that this story did not make me any more interested in the full novel at all. However, after reading this story, I first watched the preview for the series and then read The Sparrow. After doing those two things, I am much more interested in reading the novel. I recommend possibly skipping this story and reading The Sparrow instead, or perhaps reading it first, at least....more
