I've loved all her memoirs; read her blog every now and then, and always find myself marveling at her sheer brilliance, unique perspective, insight, and sense of humor (snarky but not in the irritating, "I have a chip on my shoulder"- insecure, pathetic way). The woman is brilliant and absolutely hysterical. This book did not disappoint!
Many people commented that they didn't like that much of the material for this book was taken directly from her blog. I can see how that might be disappointing if you read it religiously, and were anticipating fresh, new stories. I, however, found it hilarious. I laughed out loud-- numerous times, in public, and have now recommended it to most of my friends and family, sending numerous emails with links and copies of websites from which to buy.
Additionally, Jen Lancaster listens to her fans, and has taken feedback to heart and promised that her next memoirs will be ALL new material. She has 2 coming out in the next year, and I cannot wait to read them. Jen Lancaster has great, sharp wit, intelligence, and on top of that she is a truly gifted writer. I love her logic and sense of reasoning, her discussions with her husband, her fearlessness, and her way of rationalizing everything so that she is always right (hilarious to read).
I've read all her books and have loved her every since I fist picked up "Bitter is the New Black". Her blog is fantastic and I can always count on her to make me laugh. I highly recommend this book!
If you have never read her blog (www.jennsylvania.com) , then this book is an absolute must-read, and you will find it fresh and hysterical. If you do read her blog daily, then yes, some of these essays/stories will be familiar to you; I still think it's a gem and worth the read. There is a lot of new material, and most of her writing merits being read numerous times.

I suppose I just wasn't "in the mood" to read it, because when I finally decided to finish it, I did so in the course of 1.5 days. I like Tina Fey, and find her to be intelligent, quick witted, and very funny.
This book maps her "rise" and current place in life, starting from her childhood, to SNL, 30 Rock, motherhood, and the various bumps in between. These essays are easy, quick, and fun to read. I appreciate the moments of honesty, when she is open and talking about her insecurities, her struggles etc.
Overall, I pretty funny book. After reading this, I purposefully watched an episode of 30 Rock on t.v, as a means of 'support' and a new found appreciation of all the work that goes into it. I look forward to seeing what else she in life.

I liked some essays more than others (as is the case with these type of books), but her writing style and stories grew on me as I continued reading, to the point where I was looking forward to reading the next essay in her book. I liked her "later in life" stories more than her earlier recollections, which seemed a bit overdone and at times too long. I can honestly say that I liked her book by the time I finished with it and wished I there were more essays to read.
Personal humorist/memoir essay type books are always tricky, and can be so polarizing among readers primarily because they don't like the writing style/personality of the author (at first). Until you find and understand the authors voice, writing style, rhythm etc and get comfortable with it, these books are hard to appreciate. It is for this reason that I recommend sticking to finishing this book. It took me awhile to get into the book, but once I did I realized just how funny she is....more
