Not only he is ordinary, he does not have much going on with his life, he considers himself average. However, it is not until he falls in love with a woman named Mckale that his life is turned into a whirlwind of passion. Mckale is unlike any other woman he came across, she is beautiful, lively and supportive. Although she is not fond of his coworkers, he loves that she offers her opinion, knowing that she only means well. As things turn hectic on his job, he finds balance while taking a huge step to take Mckale hand in marriage. Things are moving along smoothly but when Mckale encounters a mid life crisis, Alan is torn between choosing whether to stay alive with or without her.
Growing up, Alan was not as close to his parents as he will like to be. Losing love ones early was not something that he took for granted, he is regretful that he does not love the bond that he always desired to have with his peers. However Mckale has given his life true meaning and when she asks him to promise two things, he is unsure if he is willing to make a painful sacrifice.
Richard Paul Evans is an amazing storyteller, his words are so vivid and authentic. I read a few others of this novels and most of them made a lasting impression. I just love how he writes characters with so much character development and how his stories stay consistent with love and light romance.
Highly recommended to anyone who is a fan of romance.(less)

Growing up,I use to always love watching Matilda on TV, I can memorize the majority of the lines and fell in love with the characters. It is one of those rare movies that you catch over & over and hardly ever get tired of it! The book was just as good as the film, it was witty and inspiring. Ms Trunchbull was such an unbelievable principal that would have gotten her fired if she actually existed! Mean is not even the right adjective to describe her, she was cold, condensing and harsh. On the other hand,Ms honey was so sweet, she lived up to her nickname. In addition, Matilda parents were nutcases, only caring about their selfish desires but I think apart of them loved Matilda.
I savored every page of this book, it was very touching. It made me want to rewatch the movie to see if I missed anything. (less)

McMillan is one of my favorite authors, I read almost if not all her books. I thought this was a pleasant surprise, full of humor and dignity.(less)

I really hated how none of these characters was developed, it was almost like they were thrown together in a puzzle that did not fit. None of their personalities shined through, therefore I was not invested with their growth and attributes. Also consistency is one of the main things I look for in any novel and this novel had very little of it. It was hard for me to wrap my head around how fickle the story became as it progressed; just was not that interesting at all to me! Lastly the ending was absolutely unbelievable and flat out ridiculous!
On the other hand, Kat had a lot of potential. In the beginning, she was slowly developed but not fully. I was waiting to see if I was going to know more about her background before I got into the meaty parts but unfortunately I felt that her story was rushed. Ehhh.. that is about it, nothing else captivated me and it would take a lot of convincing for read another novel by Jahn.(less)

The prologue was extremely tedious, reading through the loopholes was exhausting. The content of the story centered aroud poorly written characters, weak plot and forgettable details.
Also the writing style was trite to say the least. Nothing about it captivated me or lured me in. Way too many things are happening at once. Introducing characters that was not relevant did not help at all.
Just entirely insignificant and frankly a waste of my time.(less)
