Tapi berhubung pas itu aku ga gitu ngeh, akhirnya yah cuek - cuek aja :P Emang ternyata beneran kayak LOTR ya, such as :
- Eragon : Aragorn dengan sifat dan tampang seperti Frodo (tinggal di mix aja deh #hammer) - Arya : perpaduan Arwen dan Eowyn (Arwen kan di LOTR ga terlalu terliat ass kickingnya) - Brom : seperti Gandalf. - Shade : kayak Saruman, maybe. Mungkin lebih tepatnya kayak Witch King of Angmar. - Galbatorix : Sauron Sayang ga ada kembarannya Gimli ma Legolas :))

Valley of Silence is book 3 of Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts. This book is my favorite and the conclusion are well done. The ending kinda easily predicted, but if everybody happy in the end, why readers must complain? *grin*
To read Valley of Silence, readers must read 2 previous books, Morrigan's Cross and Dance of the Gods. The story is about 6 people who must defeat Lilith, the Queen of The Vampire, so she can't reign over mortal and Gods world, with blessing from The Morrigan, one of Celtic goddess. They're Hoyt MacCionaith, the sorcerer from Ireland's 12th century who transfer to the present era, his long dead twin, Cian MacCionaith who now become a vampire, the lost soul. Then there is Glenna Ward, the witch and Hoyt's lover. Blair Murphy, the demon hunter, a descendant from Hoyt and Cian's sister. And the last 2 people from Geall Kingdom, human last hope to fight against Lilith, Larkin Riddock, the shape shifter and his cousin, Moira, the future Queen of Geall.
Valley of The Silence as the last book of Circle Trilogy, is about Cian and Moira. Cian who was sired by Lilith herself decide to get rid of the vampire queen for eternity and help Moira defend Geall, then prepare for the last battle. I love this couple, and wow, Cian is hotter that his twin, Hoyt. While Hoyt kinda naive and strict, Cian has a "bad boy" vibe. But, maybe its because his past is so hard and he had lost so many people that he love.
The Circle trilogy is an enjoyable read from Nora Robert and show her class. Nora Roberts again using Irish and Celt myth then add vampire on the mix. Her writing is easily to understand rather than her J.D.Robb's books, but both have their unique style. I'm not read other Nora Roberts paranormal trilogy yet, but Circle Trilogy is my favorite and always will be =) ...more

Okay, what's weird? Well, actually the h/H both are dragon's shifter. And they kinda have "dragon sex". The description are very detail and graphic. But there're not icky factor. I think maybe kinda like we see animal mating at Discover Channel or National Geographic. Just that animal are dragon.
I think I must stop this not too important tidbit. Or maybe this one will make people interested to read this book *snicker* ...more

Dulu pas mau baca lanjutannya Eragon, ternyata baru aja masih fresh dari oven. Akhirnya setiap hati kerjaannya nerorin yang punya perpustakaan. Dialognya kira - kira gini :
Aku : Mas, Eldestnya sudah ada belum? Mas Penjaga Perpustakaan (disingkat MPP) : Masih dipinjem tuh. Aku : Terus aku kapan nih? MPP : Dua kali giliran antri deh. Seminggu lagi balik yah
Akhirnya pulang, sedih gw :((... Seminggu lagi..
Aku : Mas, Eldestnya? MPP : masih dipinjem tuh. Aku : Loh, kan aku udah indent pinjem MPP : Ntar aku bilangin ke yang lagi pinjem, dibalikin besok sore kok.
Aku : Mas.. MPP : (udah tau dy, aku cari apa).
MPP : Belum. Aku : @$#$%*&()&^ MPP : Tungguin bentaaar deh.
Aku pun mulai mondar mandir, mana perpusnya gelap pula (kan ceritanya mati lampu) Selang beberapa menit kemudian MPP : Nah akhirnya dateng juga Aku : (pelototin yang abis pinjem Eldest) MPP : Ini batas pinjemnya 3 hari ya Aku : He? Buku tebel gini mana bisa 3 hari? MPP : Kan yang antri banyak Aku : Ya udah, ntar aku perpanjang lagi .. MPP : Boleh, tapi cuma 1 kali perpanjang lo
Akhirnya aku pun sukses pinjem Eldest, dan pulang. Ternyata masih mati lampu.
...more

Sempat bengong pas tau Paolini memutuskan untuk memanjangkan kisah Eragon. Loh, katanya Trilogy, kok malah jadi Cycle? Akhirnya Brisingr ini malah terkesan dipanjang2kan ceritanya. Jadi beberapa bagian malah blunder.
Inheritance diterjemahin lama bener T____T => katanya udah mau masuk cetak, hore, hore!!
Re-read for Dragon Actually and Chains&Flames. Will add review for A Tale of Two Dragons
Not so crazy like Pride series by Shelly Laurenston. But sRe-read for Dragon Actually and Chains&Flames. Will add review for A Tale of Two Dragons
Not so crazy like Pride series by Shelly Laurenston. But still good nonetheless. I think for the first, this book is set on medieval era or maybe our era. But turn that its fantasy romance. With dragon. And bloodthirsty heroine! Wooohooo,a wet dream for fantasy geek like me!! (har, har!)
Dragon Actually is the first book of Dragon Kin series by G.A.Aiken, another pen name of Shelly Laurenston, my crack when it comes of crazy comedy story. This book have 2 stories, Dragon Actually (or the original title A Dragon Challenge) and Chains and Flames.
Dragon Actually is story about Annwyl the Bloody and Fearghus the Destroyer. Annwyl is a human that try to kill his tyrant brother, while Fearghus is the dragon who save her when she had been ambushed and almost dead. Now, you wonder how dragon and human relationship can work? Well, Fearghus can shift into human, a secret the dragon kin keep from mankind. As dragon, he is in friend zone with Annwyl and she pledge her loyalty to him since he saved her life. As human, he make Annwyl blood heat up... in the good way. Annwyl of course don't know that the knight she hate and the dragon she love is the same. While the truth revealed, Annwyl of course angry to Fearghus to keep that fact but he's willing to help her war with her brother and claim the throne.
Chains and Flames is the story about Princess Rhiannon and Bercelak the Vengeful. Both are Fearghus's parent and also appeared at Dragon Actually. This is the story when they first meet and mated. Rhiannon is a powerful dragon but she always think she is weak. Little she know its her mother doing, Queen Addiena who fear she once will take the throne. So Addiena cast a spell to Rhiannon to make her human and can't shift back. Fortunately (or not) she is saved by Bercelak, her mother's warrior. Rhiannon hate Bercelak and mock him as "lowborn" since he's not royalty. And his father is a famous womanizer that bed many women, and Addiena is one of them. But her heart always beat faster when near him. As for Bercelak, he already want the princess from the beginning despite the Queen want him Claim Rhiannon with force. Together, while try to release Rhiannon from her spell, Bercelak must conviced her to let him Claimed her and rule together.
I love both stories. But Chains and Flames is my favorite. You know what to expect when read the word "Chain", don't you? *wiggle eyebrows*. I give a hint. K.I.N.K.Y ;). But of course not just that, G.A.Aiken make a wonderful dragon story. Love Annwyl with her ass kicking and bloodthirsty characteristic, but she also have flaws when it come to manage her anger and fear. Fearghus is a grumpy dragon, don't care with others concern as long he's not disturbed, but Annwyl change all. I also love Fearghus siblings, from Morfyd the Dragonwich, Briec the Mighty, Gwenfael the Handsome (or Whore), Keita and Eibhear. And from Chain and Flames, Bercelak's family that defend him and Rhiannon, but also crazy in their way. I think that's the similarity between G.A. Aiken and Shelly Laurenston. Both have a family theme of their story. No matter what how much the craziness ran in family, when your are in trouble, your family always there for you.
Oh, and another similarity is both know how to write steamy sex scenes. My favorite of course still Chains and Flames. Beside kinky, the Claimed part is scorching hot and very unique! G.A. Aiken write about dragon as good as Shelly Laurenston write about shifter. If you fans of Shelly Laurenston, you won't to miss this....more
Leave it to Shelly Laurenston, or as her other pen name, G.A.Aiken to entertain and boost your mood reading when it comes to her books. I literally laLeave it to Shelly Laurenston, or as her other pen name, G.A.Aiken to entertain and boost your mood reading when it comes to her books. I literally laughing on my bed (not in the floor :)) ) when reading about Briec the Mighty and the constantly talking and nagging Talaith. So many one liner that will make you snort, or if you're not laughing.. well, I will not blame you. Really :D *smile sweetly and innocently while planning to kill rant why you're not laughing :)) *
What make me laughing more is how much shame Gwenvael, Briec's brother has? He seems like to annoy all people by talk wrong in the wrong time and wrong place. And all of his brothers and sisters (or humans) will smack him, hit him, slash him, claw him, and after that will just said "accident". Really hilarious and downright funny! XD Another dragon kin I love is Eibhear the Blue. He's the cutest dragon I've ever read and maybe the most sane in his family :D.
Talaith and her daughter relationship is warm but Iseabail aka Izzy the Dangerous is really not like teenage of her age. With her hyperactive attitude, she kinda remind me of Blayne Thorpe from Pride series. Just meanie and ass kicking. The myth about the human gods and dragon gods is interesting too. I wonder, if we strip the slapstick humor, the snarky part and the steamy sex scene, I can said that Ms Aiken make a wonderfully epic fantasy story with amazing world building!
Talk about steamy, woo boy, Ms Aiken like her Laurenston's book can write a delicious sex scene. But, maybe because this one first published under Samhain publisher, the sex seems too overrated. Okay, not that I'm complaining. I love my books, especially romance books full of sex scenes. But the early part of this book is about how Briec pursue Talaith to get off her pants. So if readers feel uncomfortable to read the sex scenes, to bad they will miss the great story that follow after that.
My favorite quotes so far :
“Tell me, Lord Dragon, does your arrogance ever take a holiday?” “No. Does your mouth?”
and this one :
“My husband tried to have me burned at the stake and you brutalize your brothers on an hourly basis, which makes them not want to be too close to you for very long. What does that tell you, Briec the Arrogant?” “That they’re jealous of our greatness.” Talaith laughed hard, her face buried against his neck and her entire body shaking. “What?” Briec asked in all sincerity. “What’s so funny?”
Now into Gwenvael The Whore story. I must prepare myself to laughing so hard, since he have a hobby to embarrased himself :))...more
What a Readers Should Know about What a Dragon Should Know???
First, that G.A. Aiken again prove she become one of my favorite author and I put her inWhat a Readers Should Know about What a Dragon Should Know???
First, that G.A. Aiken again prove she become one of my favorite author and I put her in my autobuy list (beside her other pen name, Shelly Laurenston. She also put E in EPIC, A in AMAZING, S in SUPERB, and.. well I can go on and on and on. But the old saying that "third times is the charm" is definitely true, because in "What A Dragon Should Know", Ms Aiken again show that humor and fantasy (and dragon!) can make a wonderful story.
What a Dragon Should Know is about Gwenvael the Handsome (his term), the Slag (his family term), the Defiler (his enemy and people term) and the Ruiner (his term, again). Now, you've got the picture. Yes, Gwenvael is the most narcississtic dragon ever lived, it make his family think he's idiot and so easy. Which is hurt, that's why he ask to Anwyll, the Blood Queen and the leader of Garbhan Isle to make him as emissary to the Northlands. To find the cure for Anwyll's pregnancy. Now, to find about it you definitely must read the previous book. Okay, next! So Gwenvael go to the Reinholdt stronghold and demand to meet The Beast. Of course he's so surprised when knowing that The Beast is Sigmar Reinholdt's daughter. Make him laughing so hard, and in the end insult The Beast. Now, he must seduce her in hope to help his Queen
Dagmar Reinholdt, known as The Beast, since she have ability to calm animal and especially her father's war dog, is a spinster, but with a smart and calculating brain. She knows who target the Blood Queen and want Anwyll dead. But Gwenvael's last act to her, beside make she feel insulted, she also irritated to him. Gwenvael will stop to nothing to make Reinholdt accept him, and his one of idea is crying. Yep, he's crying. Which make me laughing so hard. Now, there's a hero who is crying to get what he want. Even it just a fake tears, still hilarious, eh? X)
Dagmar and Gwenvael then search for Order of Silverhammer (forget the exact name) and brother Ragnar, who for 20 years provide Dagmar with information. Turn that Ragnar is not human, he is Lightning Dragon, who made him as Gwenvael's enemy since Lightning and Fire are sworn enemy. Dagmar then go to Garbhan Isle. Meet Anwyll and can't believe her sight when see the queen who heavily pregnant is far from fierce. But Anwyll's condition is bad too, her twin babies suck her life force. Dagmar with the rest of Gwenvael's kin can't do anything. Anwyll turn up dead after her babies born, make her dragon mate Fearghus grieve. Dagmar, who not believing in Gods, then try to bargain with Rhyddec Hael, the dragon god who also make Anywyll pregnant (dragon actually can't have children with human). Rhyddec Hael send her, the babies and Anwyll's body to the tunnel when Anywyll's enemy wait her. So, Dagmar, again with her smart and cunnning mind, try to bargain with another God to make Anwyll live again. Is the problem over? Noooo, there's still war waiting for Anwyll, Dagmar must convice her to help Dagmar's father war with his brother, Talaith who have fight with her daughter Izzy, and the most important thing is finally Gwenvael find his one and only. Now, how he convice Dagmar to accept his, despite his womanizer past?
I really love What a Dragon Should Know, the world building still amazing, the characters still crazy, but what I love more is this book not just about Dagmar and Gwenvael. Not like the previous, the sexual tone of this book is tamer than the previous, even still steamy and make my nose bleeding. Who know that the serious and stern Dagmar like to watch another people have sex? Yes, Dagmar's kinky habit is voyeurism :)). And with Gwenvael beside her, of course it hard to concentrate, not forget that Gwenvael is the whore and will use that opportunity to make Dagmar's body sing in a good way :)). Gwenvael kinda remind me of Mitch Shaw from Pride series by Shelly Laurenston, too much loving himself! There's a time when I wonder when Gwenvael will stop embarassing himself in front of everybody. Which never happen. It's in his nature :)). As for Dagmar, she like Irene Van Holtz, also from Pride series. Cold, calculating, stern and smart. But she's like a vulcano which its lava turmoil inside it. Dagmar is a perfect match to Gwenvael :)
Ms Aiken not forget another characters since all have their own story. From Anywyll and Fearghus with their newborn twins, Talaith and Briec with their problem about Izzy that want to go to war, also second love story beside Morfydd the DragonWytch and Brastias, Anwyll second in command. And there's sexual tension between Izzy and Eibhear the Blue, Gwenvael little brother. Which seems wrong, I mean Eibhear kinda like Izzy's uncle (Briec is Eibhear's brother) even not by blood and Eibhear considered as young among the Dragon Kin.
Still filled with many hilarious one liner, and these are my favorite quote :
- "I already explained this. I don’t like you. True, I don’t like most people, but I especially dislike you. I could start my own religion based on how much I dislike you." Dagmar to Gwenvael
- "You can’t leave me. I’m tortured and brooding. You need to show me how much you adore me so I can learn to love myself again." "You’ve never stopped loving yourself." "Because I’m amazing."
Love your fantasy with humor, great world building, fantastic idea, fast paced plot, steamy and full with dragon? Read Dragon Kin series and you will know that dragon can be as crazy as human can be :))

Eona, 16 years old girl and crippled, disguised herself as Eon. The 12 years old eunuch boy and young apprentice of ex Tiger Dragoneye that try to be the new Rat Dragoneye's successor. Eon do it, because he want to bring glory back to his master. Turn after the test done, even he failed Rat Dragon's test, he is the new Dragoneye of Mirror Dragon. Mirror Dragon had been lost for 500 years, and Eon's new status elevated him to a new whole level. Eon must face politic play in the court that maybe will endanger him and all people he love. He must decide what side he will give support. Eon then pledge his loyalty to The King. In attempt to oppose King's brother, High Lord Sethon. He also forged friendship with the Crown Prince, Kygo, that not aware Eon actually is a girl. With the story go on, Eon will have loyal friends that support him. From one of the Shadow Men, Ryko, and Lady Dela, a Contraire, man with woman spirit in his heart.
Doesn't mean Eon not have enemy. His enemy might be the fierce from all 12 Dragoneye Lord. Lord Ido is the New Rat Dragoneye. He is the leader of all Dragoneye Lord, and support Sethon, make him so dangerous to Eon. Ido that always mock Eon because his disability to use the dragon's power, then find out Eon's real identity, as Eona. He forced Eona to unite with him, as man and woman, and make their power whole, so Ido can be a king. In the other side, Eon/Eona still can't find the name of her dragon, and she must race with time to find her real power. To prevent Ido's ambitions destroy the kingdom
Eon is what YA novel should be. And its must got much attention rather than those YA that disguised with pretty cover but the story is otherwise. Kudos for Ms Alison Goodman, who is Australian writer, that again show her magic when create Eon's world. This is the second time I enjoy book by Australian writers, after Mellina Marchetta with her Finnikin of the Rock.
Ms Goodman took us to the new level of Eastern Mtyh, especially from China. While Dragon in the Europe and Western culture usually feared and slayed by human, in the East, we make it as Gods (China) and guardians (Japan). In this Chinese Dragon fantasy story, Ms Goodman make 12 dragons, based on Chinese 12 Years Zodiac System. Some of us know it as shio . Eona as the heroine make me sometimes irritated, but she definitely not Mary Sue. Its hard for Eona to pretend as Eon, a 12 years old cripple eunuch boy. Try to press her feminine side, because such thing as female Dragoneye not exist. And if the King know it, she will be sentenced to death. Eona had suffered for all her life, and she realize she been lying all along to people around her. An irony indeed, because Mirror Dragoneye is the Keeper of Truth, yet Eona can't live without lie.
The romance aspect in this book not so much, its just told briefly. But there's a chance of love triangle between Eona, Ido (yeah, I know) and Kygo, the Crown Prince. Not that kind of love triangle that I hate actually. Remember, Eona had been Eon for almost 3/4 part of story, so there's no romantic develoption, yet. If Eona and Kygo relationship might be healthy, based on friendship, then Eona and Ido kinda have sick kind of relationship. Related of their power and their status as Dragoneye. But I can assure you, there's no romance here, at last not explicit.
The best thing beside Chinese myth and a kind of heroine I love is, Ms Goodman can make a villain that will make you love and hate it! Ido sure make me hate him, but there's part of me that thing he's sexy. Yep, in that kind of "bad boy" way (except he has and oily goatee, ewww). But Ido not a boy. He is fully man, that full of sick ambitions, and will kill people who dare to oppose him. There's an interesting development for his character toward the end of story. And I can't wait to know more about his relationship with Eona in the next book.
Overall, I love Eon. And I'm so happy to find another good YA, that not just have a good cover but a great story!...more

Back and front to give it 4 or 5.. I decided 4,5 stars, but dammit GR don't have a half star system, so yes, 5 stars is good :P Edited : I give 4 stars, because I love the second, Storm's Heart, and that book is better than Dragon Bound
This one is my favorites read this year, even not my top 10 read (this usually for my 5++ stars book, where in case, there're so rare). I adore both characters,Pia Giovani and Dragos Cuelebre (first,I found Dragos last name, Cuelebre, kinda sexy, lol, and that I found Cuelebre is one of dragon myth, so that name suit him).. I'm surprised when I know the true form of Pia, as Wyr, and wondering what is her true name...
If only this book have more Dragos scene at the last part, when Pia abducted, he must be my nom-nom boyfriend.. Alas, he's not :P. But he is cute when he said "please" and learn his new feelings to Pia. The love scene is hot and me likey ;P
Would love to read more about Dragos's sentinel, like Rune or Graydon (my favorite chara so far, he act like big brother to Pia), and wondering if Aryal, the harpy, will one day become one of Pia's friend..

The first book I read in 2015, also the first paperback I finally read after reading so many e-book last year. One book at a time to conquer3,5 stars
The first book I read in 2015, also the first paperback I finally read after reading so many e-book last year. One book at a time to conquer my never ending TBR! :). I pick up How To Drive a Dragon Crazy, the 6th book in Dragon Kin series, because I want to start this year with a good book. Well, this one is good, but I admit that I'm a little bit disappointed :/
How to Drive is about Iseabail "Izzy" the Dangerous and Eibhear the Blue (or Compatible), a old characters from Dragon Kin world. Their attraction begin way way back at book #2 (or maybe #3), have been down and up for years. They manage to tease and hurt their feelings, especially Eibhear that try to resist his feeling to Izzy, because he is his uncle. Yep, Izzy is Briec's adoptive daughter and Briec (hero from book #2) is Eibhear's big brother. They're not family by blood, but family will always family and Eibhear don't want to love Izzy since it will be awkward to lusting after his niece even Izzy is clear about her feeling to her "nice" uncle.
The story fast forward 10 years after the event in The Dragon Who Loved Me. Izzy now have mature and become adult woman, a much respected and well feared General of her own, even she's still childish. Eibhear himself already growing big, and bigger than his brothers, he's now with Mi-Runach, a dragon warrior that do not fear death and fight without following order except from the Dragon Queen herself. After 10 years never met, Eibhear kidnap bring Izzy back to the Garbhann Isles because there are big problems. One of it is Izzy's stepsister, Rhianwen, whose magick power keep getting stronger and become a danger for anyone that she hold dear. Izzy and Eibhear must go to Desert Land, a place where Izzy's mother, Talaith come from to save Rhianwen and discover that they must stop a cult on that places.
Well, I'm never a fans of Izzy, because I always think that she's too childish and kinda like Anwyll's copycat. Yeah both are crazy, easily pissed off by other and always treat anyone's throat that displease them so much. But, Anwyll will always be CRAZY and right to because she's the queen and already bloodthirsty from the beginning. Izzy just follow her step and even she's now in her thirties, she like to act like a child! Anyhoo, that's not make her an annoying character, Izzy just don't grow on me.
Same thing with Eibhear. Maybe I want to see that he's being crazy because Izzy's teasing here and there. But he's just midly crazy #heh. I also think that the start of the story is too slow and the romance between Izzy and Eibhear almost non-existent. They have sex, they did. It's steamy, event not as steamy as the previous books. It just all that sexual tension between them (from previous books!) become anticlimatic in the end. I'm so want to read how Eibhear going alpha and Claimed Izzy for his own. But, eh, I don't got it :(.
The best part is the world building that still stellar and the characters. At first I'm a little bit consufed because it's been almost 2 years since I read book #5 and like her other pen name Shelly Laurenston, G.A. Aiken write so many characters! It's so nice to finally reunite with Fire Dragon after 2 books before this one are about Lightning Dragon. We will get know more about Ice Dragon and especially Sand Dragon that reside in Dessert Land with their king. The gods also play important roles to and still full of mysterious intent. The Mi-Runach, Eibhear's friends are funny and a little bit stupid, but I guess one of them, Aidan will get story. Maybe with Branwenn, one of Eibhear's Cadwaladr cousin that seems suited for him.
The epilogue kinda surprising and take the Dragon Kin world into new era. Anwyll and her kin will face a new treat that will endanger Garbhann Isle. The future is uncertain, but well, Aiken is a master storyteller and I always eager to read what next from her. The new installment of Dragon Kin is Playing with Fire. It's about Celyn, Branwenn's brother, have a past with Izzy that created riot between him, Izzy and Eibhear, even they already forget it. ...more
Kamu suka novel fantasy?
. Kalau jawabannya belom, atau ngeles kan bahasa Inggris or males ah baca ibuk, siwer mata gw, then shame on you! Wake up, guys!
Tapi covernya yg berwarna merah bikin ane kepincut. Walau sempet ngikik liat nama serialnya "Temeraire, Book 1". Kenapa ga pake "buku ke-satu" aja, cing? :)). But, I really looooove Eragon.
Tema dasar His Majesty's Dragon sebenernya sama kok kayak Eragon.
Don't take this in sexual way yah :)). Will yg usianya udah 32 tahunan dan udah ngeplek sama aturan angkatan laut, jelas butuh waktu buat belajar jadi penerbang.
Sampai Will yang ogah baca pun meluangkan waktunya buat bacain Temeraire buku - buku bermutu yg kita punya otak kurang prima, mungkin g ngerti :)). Will juga nantinya bertemu sama rekan penerbangnya.
Udah gitu pakai bahasa Inggris pulak!
XD
Kalau kalian yg doyan romance berharap bakal ada romance, ada kok. Cuma dikit buanget :D. Will kan bangsawan dan umurnya juga udah 30an, jadi wajar kalau dia punya 1-2 kisah romantis. Setelah ditinggal teman masa kecilnya, Will ada semacam affair sama sesama penerbang, Jane Roland. Dimana anak Jane, Emily jadi krunya Will.
Tapi gw yakin si PJ bakalan bikin His Majesty's Dragon sebagus LOTR dan The Hobbit. Dan boleh dong gw berharap, Benedict Cumberbatch jadi Will Laurence. Cocok banget jadi orang kaku, apalagi si Benedict juga aslinya blonde...
For the first book in series, Stone Guardian guaranted a good read with interesting world building. A mix of paranormal romance with fantasy, p4 stars
For the first book in series, Stone Guardian guaranted a good read with interesting world building. A mix of paranormal romance with fantasy, plus many geeks element that I recognized. Maybe because I'm a nerd too :).
An event called Great Collision make Human Realm and Magical Realm become one. Vampire, werewolf, mage, wizard, orcs, goblin, even dragon, all that supranatural creature you can dream of, suddenly invade our world. 26 years later, human accept them, but something extraordinary happen when a woman name Larissa Miller chased by zombie and then guarded by a gargoyle. Not just a mere gargoyle, for Terak is the leader of Clan Gargoyle and nothing can stop him from protect Larissa. Beware vampire and werewolf, there was a new hottie in paranormal world, a gargoyle that as sexy as you are, as protective and possessive, and have a golden heart. Terak made me want to have gargoyle for my own. Even, I'm not sure what I can do with a guy who have stone-like skin, leathery wings and.. tail ;).
Anyhoo, when I think maybe Stone Guardian is the same old paranormal romance, there are merryband of supernatural romp that scream "girl power!" that is The Guild. They are Fallon, a redhead with fiery temper that wield sword called Tenro and have title as "Dragon Slayer". Her unique and eccentric mage friend, an Asia woman name Laire. Then their comrade, Aislinn, an elf who wield her arrow with deadly accurancy. Well, this trio kinda remind me of Aragorn-Legolas-Gimli (plus Gandalf, for Laire) from Lords of the Ring! ;). Of course the Guild is not just them. There are Wulver, a were and Kyo, a Psy-Mage that is mysterious. Love vampire? Don't worry, there was Reign, a master vampire that somehow obsessed with Fallon.
BTW, I do have some question. Like : (view spoiler)[# What is The Guild actually? There's no explanation about The Guild, their appearance kinda like random, even they do help Larissa and Terak. I wonder what their role in this series. # Fallon called as "Dragon Slayer". Yet she (or maybe Terak, I can't remember) stated that dragon doesn't exist. While I remember, in the first, there was a dragon flying. # Who is the real leader of the Guild? It stated that Wulver was the boss. But when Fallon, Laire and Wulver met Reign, Wulver do not act as boss. So, yeah, I kinda confussed here. # What is the cause behind Great Collision? Is it just a catasthropic event or someone responsible behind it? # Michael, one of Larrisa's brother admit that he is in special force. What kind of special force anyway? There's no further information, make me curious. (hide spoiler)]
also, near the end the action become too rushed. I don't mind if the book have more pages, so Ms Monsch can explore more about the world and put more action. And especially The Guild, for I really intrigued by them ;)
What I love from Stone Guardian, beside so many fantasy element is, it avoid some paranormal romance cliches. First, no band of hot and hunky men, that remind me of Black Dagger Brotherhood. It same old same old, and kinda overused right now. I'm glad that Ms Monsch replace it with Fallon-Laire-Aislinn (even I can't exclude Wulver of course), because women can kick ass too. Then, it doesn't have a character who age span is hundred or thousand, that in the end make their mate sacrifice their immortality. Terak explain that Gargoyle and human have a same age span, so the possibility for Larissa and Terak to live until death do us part (aka live until their old age) are plenty.
Oh, do I forget to mention that both Larissa and Terak are virgin??. Whoop, I'm so happy when read this! Virgin heroines are overrated right now, and virgin heroes are rare as a jewel. To combine both, well.. sizzling! While Terak is virgin, he do so "creative" when it comes to sex. And their last sex scene? I tell you that Terak's wing is a very useful tool.
For the cover, well Ms Monsch so lucky to have Nathalia Suellen to design the cover. I really love Stone Guardian cover. Again, it not try to be sexy, with a hunk that show his six(or eight packs) pose awkwardly and sometimes have his head chopped. The cover show Terak in his full glory. Menacing, yet mysterious and show his protectiveness. Simply put, gorgeus!
I'm glad to discover Stone Guard, and can't wait to explore more the Entwined Realm series. This is a series that paranormal romance lover must read!
PS : Dear Ms Monsch, I see that you are an otaku. Do you love Samurai Deeper Kyo? For there are character name Kyo, and you named Fallon's sword with Tenro. Not that I complaint, I'm fans of Samurai Deeper Kyo, and yes, I'm an otaku too :)["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more
The problem with Paranormal Romance books today is how easily predictable the plot were and how sometimes authors seems like afraid to take a 4 stars
The problem with Paranormal Romance books today is how easily predictable the plot were and how sometimes authors seems like afraid to take a risk such as make a big change or kill their darlings (aka characters). Thea Harrison is one of a few. Her Elder Races series is full of surprise (even of course there are some PNR cliche too) and she didn't hesitant to make big change there and here. First she did it to both Tiago and Rune, whose follow their mate and quit become Dragos's sentinels. The big heart breaking moment for me especially for Rune, because he and Dragos was best friend. And now, in Pia Saves the Day, Ms Harrison did it again. She make a big turn of tide for Pia and Dragos relationship.
Because Pia and Dragos are now settle and they also have a child that they love, do they get their HEA? The answer is NO. We were beguiled by the previous novella, Dragos Take a Holiday. That novella is more like a calm before storm and the real storm is happen in Pia Saves the Day. This might be the biggest challenge for Pia and her family, because Dragos lost his memory and didn't recognize Pia. Worse is, he attack his beloved mate and Pia become shocked about that. But we talk about Pia here. She might be not my favorite Elder Races heroine, but she is not a meek woman either. She will do anything to win Dragos back, even it mean they will start their relationship.. from the beginning.
Amnesia theme is tricky. I called it a lame theme because some authors that I had read their books that contain amnesia can't pulled it right. Usually the person who get amnesia suddenly got their memory by miracle that make me go meh. Ms Harrison did it well in this novella. The big enemy that Dragos face here is not another deities, nor his sworn enemy (Fae, Elves, Wyr, etc). But himself. Yes, Dragos is jealous with himself before accident that make him forget Pia. Dragos jealous with the man that he become and it's a big challenge for him to become a man that Pia once loved. What I like is, no final ending for Pia and Dragos, for the problem still there. But I like it nonetheless. I like it because that's mean I will read again about Pia and Dragos and can't wait what Ms Harrison plan for them.
Ms Harrison overdid herself with this novella. If you are a long time fans of Elder Races series, you will not miss Pia Saves the Day.
