I have already seen the movie and found it interesting to compare with the text as I read. I look forward to reading Pride and Prejudice.(less)

This book takes place about a year or so after the first, so that threw me a bit. I liked the mystery and all the characters. Charlaine Harris is a great at creating fascinating and engaging characters that grow and develop as well as interesting characters that are one shot deals for any individual book.(less)

There were two lines of plot running through this one, which was a little unusual. I feel that spiced the story up. I like how things went.(less)

I like that whatever Shinn writes I can look forward to enjoying. She is masterful at the craft of character development. The books generally run at a casual, sedate pace allowing you to gradually know and become attached to the main characters without ever being boring. They are not action packed and this book is no exception but it still has a powerful draw to discover the outcomes of the plot and its implication on the lives of the characters. I'm still holding out for more Twelve Houses books, but I enjoyed this one immensely and recommend it.(less)

I'm now at a point in the series where I can read the spin off novels and I'm looking forward to learning more about Spade and Mencheres. I wonder if there will eventually be a spin off novel for Vlad.(less)

I'm glad that I read this before starting the series even though it was published later. I think this one is more dramatic than the regular series which seems more like a romantic comedy. Either way, I like the main characters who were the focus and I thought it did a good job of using them to introduce the guy who is probably one of the main characters of the regular series. I wonder if there's any connection between the lucky charm (rabbits tail) and the main female character of the regular series (her name, usagi, is the Japanese word for rabbit).(less)
