"A book is like a garden in your pocket" says a Chinese proverb and it makes me want to put a flowery skin on my trusted Kindle.
Scott Grossberg's new book The Vitruvian Square is a whole new Universe of the world of being psychic via set rules: you will read numbers and letters and people seemingly from the thin air, yet you will always have a SYSTEM to fall back on. After doing it for a while, you will leave the system behind for the psychic channels, well-trained, will start picking up all sorts of information straight from that new Universe Scott's book opens up for you.
No, better to say: YOU build that Universe through the use of this totally UNIQUE and insanely smooth technique with seemingly HUNDREDS of branches, which lead you even deeper into the art and science of knowing people and being able to help people bless their lives.
I do not have words to describe you just what the book will give you: the potential of the information shared is ENDLESS...
I bow to Scott Grossberg for sharing so generously this incredible system which has no analogues anywhere in the world. I am proud to be a very devoted fan of his Deck of Shadows and always use them in combination with other decks when doing readings on air and in person.
Thank you Scott for being true to yourself and for bringing endless MAGIC into the lives of people on this planet.

I love being on planes, love being in airports; sometimes I truly feel that I like journey more than the destination: it is a time out of time, a moment in life to fully relax and take all the responsibility off my shoulders, and, as Anna Quindlen helped me to fully realize, a time to read:
"This is what I like about traveling: the time on airplanes spent reading, solitary, happy. It turns out that when my younger self thought of taking wing, she wanted only to let her spirit soar. Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home." (88%)
Bookworms escaping the real life and hallucinating in the imaginary world: this is how many people perceive us, avid readers. How to explain to them that for us reading is the miracle of bringing other worlds to life with the power of this miraculous process of turning the little black ants of letters in flowing rivers of strong feelings that move the soul and make us laugh and cry and ultimately become better people? But why to even try to explain it? Because every reader wants to share the joy of reading like parents who leave books open on catchy pages; like librarians who take kids down into the basements filled with the marvels of Renaissance novels. God bless their hearts; if not for them, would there be such a page-turners army that stays strong and even growing despite the constant distraction of TV, social life and money-making pressure?
This slim volume tells a story every reader and writer can relate to: reading changes our lives in ways we never fully realize; it makes us who we are; it trains the muscles of our soul and the joints of our brain. For Anna Quindlen, reading became re-reading, and ultimately, a glorious writing career. After reading the masterpieces of world's literature, she decided that "I know that I will never, ever write as well as this, but that if anything even dimply like this power, to enthrall, to move, to light in the darkness of daily life, lies hidden like a wartime cryptogram within the Royal manual typewriter on my dorm room desk, I must try to make a go of it." (73%) It is a joy for us that she gave it a try: check out the raving Amazon.com reviews on her books, both fiction and non-fiction.
We, readers, are never alone: as long as we can read, we have a company of myriads of other people, the authors, the fictional characters and the other readers who have read same books as we. How Reading Changed My Life warmed my heart and reminded me of that. And several reading lists Mrs. Quindlen shares at the end of the book added a good 40+ jewels to explore to my TO READ SOON list.

"I belong to the tribe of sentence watchers," says Stanley Fish and I all but jump with joy for digging deeper into my love of reading. Where I was reading for story, where I was reading for characters, where I was reading to escape my world and find a new one: I am now to be trained to read for subtle joy of a string of words said smoothly or roughly: said in a way for me to stop reading and marvel at the music of sentence that I encountered in my journey through a book.
"the practice of analyzing and imitating sentences is also the practice of learning how to read them with an informed appreciation. Here’s the formula: Sentence craft equals sentence comprehension equals sentence appreciation." In this finely crafted book, the author closely looks at three styles of sentences: the subordinating, the additive, the satiric, providing a way to break a sentence into a formula, following which one can easily create her own little masterpieces.
The content is not to be overlooked! Thus several chapters deal with taking a close look at many fine sentences, rolling them over and over in readers' mind for the best appreciation and understanding. The first and last sentences and the weight they carry got their own chapters, too, and made wish I noted first and last sentences of the many hundreds books I have read in my life as of today.
But of course, it is never too late to start! "I appreciate fine sentences. I am always on the lookout for sentences that take your breath away, for sentences that make you say, “Isn’t that something?” or “What a sentence!” Some of my fellow sentence appreciators have websites: Best Sentences Ever, Sentences We Love, Best First Sentences, Best Last Sentences." I have to say that Mr. Fish enjoys his sentences, indeed: I have swallowed this slim volume as if it was a ziplock full of homemade brownies: how lovely that a book that teaches to pay attention to the small but CORE units of speech and writing is excellent in every breath it takes!!!
Note that even though it is partly a "how-to" book, it reads more like a literary analysis, and a very refreshing, entertaining one: no need to really pause for exercises: you WANT to do them on the go; the principles stay in your head and you continue pay attention to sentences afterwords. "How to Read a Sentence" sharpened my interest in a book that I started, but dropped after first 20 pages or so: "The Tropic of Cancer" by Henry Miller. You see, I was reading for the story (none) and characters (highly disgusting to me) but the day I finished Mr. Fish's book, I picked up "The Tropic of Cancer" and breezed through 100+ pages in one sitting. The writing IS beautiful, and through it, even the characters became more tolerable...
Of course, all these wise sentences in the "How to Write a Sentence..." indulge thinking about life in general... as all the great writing and stories do... For example, this is one of my favorite quotes (and I took MANY from this book!):
"A famous sonnet by William Wordsworth begins, “Nuns fret not at their convent’s narrow room; / And hermits are contented with their cells; / and students with their pensive citadels.” Wordsworth’s point is that what nuns, hermits, and students do is facilitated rather than hindered by the confines of the formal structures they inhabit; because those structures constrain freedom (they remove, says Wordsworth, “the weight of too much liberty”), they enable movements in a defined space. If the moves you can perform are prescribed and limited—if, for example, every line in your poem must have ten syllables and rhyme according to a predetermined pattern—each move can carry a precise significance. If, on the other hand, there are an infinite number of moves to perform, the significance of any one of them may be difficult to discern. (This is one of the insights of information theory.) That is why Wordsworth reports himself happy “to be bound / Within the Sonnet’s scanty plot of ground.” It is a scanty plot because it is bounded, and because it is bounded, it can be the generator of boundless meanings."
Think about it... "if there are an infinite number of moves to perform, the significance of any one of them may be difficult to discern" Doesn't it make you wish to create a sort of a PLAN for the next 20 years, as they wise personal development people recommend to?...
I am absolutely thrilled to be "introduced" to Gertrude Stein, quoted abundantly through the book. She sounds like a very fine kind of writer, and a lady who appreciated sentences and had the most joy from "diagramming sentences" ever since she was a little girl: "The great modern theorist of the additive, or coordinating, style is Gertrude Stein, who explains in an amazing sentence why she doesn’t employ punctuation that carves reality into manageable units of completed and organized thought: When I first began writing I felt that writing should go on I still do feel that it should go on but when I first began writing I was completely possessed by the necessity that writing should go on and if writing should go on what had colons and semi-colons to do with it, what had commas to do with it what had periods to do with it what had small letters and capitals to do with it to do with writing going on which was at the time the most profound need I had in connection with writing. (Lectures in America, 1935)"
Needless to say that this book added a good many titles on my "to read" list, and I am only happy for it: I love reading, and the only thing I love more is reading really good literature. Books like this are like compass in the vast sea of information: not only they point you in the most picturesque direction of travel but teach you to navigate on the stars in the sky and pebbles by the beaches you are to pass.
"The skill it takes to produce a sentence—the skill of linking events, actions, and objects in a strict logic—is also the skill of creating a world."
And proud I am to be one of the aspiring creators of the new worlds!

Lovely audio book; there was a time in my life when I listened to it several times a week! Just Robin's voice, full of optimism and encouragement, made wanna do my best to become the best me I could manage at the time! ...and I have to give myself a pat on the shoulder: I know I am doing if not my VERY best, then the next to it, and you know what, perhaps it is time to listen-listen-listen to the World Class Life again and again!

I am very prejudiced about this book. I love the way Dina Rubina spins the yarn of her stories and novels. I love how she conveys the smallest yet significant details of life. I even love that she grew up in Tashkent, my home town. From this book, I got acquainted with her as a person, a woman, a writer in process of creation... and now I love what a strong spirited, witty woman she is!
I dream that when I travel to Israel (one of the few countries I have not been to yet) I be given a privilege to "land" on her balcony and meet this wonderful lady face to face. Why? Well... before my trip, I think I have some time to search for a really good excuse, so I do not waste her time in vein! :)
I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys Dina Rubina's books. For now, I go around with this book, and read out loud funny pieces to my friends and relative: and every time I am laughing till tears well in my eyes! There is a lot of daily, "simple" wisdom in this book and I hope that people who laughed with me at, for example, Rubina's "translation" of an Uzbek manuscript into Russian, decide to read the book for themselves.

PS I wish more of her books were translated into English: I would gift all of my English speaking friends with Rubina's masterpieces, especially, the "Leonardo's Handwriting", my favorite as of today. (http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...) (less)

Your only true divine purpose is to be here and now. It means, to live in meditation of love. Start living your life, doing everything in your life not for yourself, but for God, or the Universe, no matter what name you use: "The Universe ... God ... your Highest Being ... is sending you a message. "It's time." It's time for you to flip that switch in your life that will lead your worries, your stress, the fighting, and the striving to just disappear. It's time for you to make The Shift. Because when you do, it's not just something you're doing for yourself. It's something you're doing for those around you. It's something you're doing for your entire community. It's something you're doing for the world. For the Universe. For Creation itself."
To come closer to your original nature, give birth to wisdom and evoke the five blessings: health, wealth, happiness, longevity, and peace, turn to four Cardinal Virtues:
1. Reverence for all life which manifests as unconditional love and respect for oneself and all other beings; 2. natural sincerity; this manifests as honesty, simplicity, and faithfulness; 3. gentleness; this manifests as kindness, consideration for others, and sensitivity to spiritual truth; 4. supportiveness; this manifests as service to others without expectation of reward.
Dr. Dyer's noble goal is to reach the critical number of people who watched, heard or read his latest creation: "The Shift" and then, he believes, and I support him, we might as well turn the humanity to face its Higher Self and Shift to Love.
I highly recommend this audio program for quiet walks or even morning runs on a machine in your gym in order to remind yourself about the higher vibration that is always here and is always available for us to turn in to.

"Alive Thoughts" book is a true pearl of Anatolii Nekrasov's worldview. An acknowledged Spiritual Teacher, Master, he leads the reader on a journey of acquaintance with the World as he, the author, sees and understands it. And the picture is fascinating! From this book, many of Mr. Nekrasov's volumes took their beginning. For example, the topic of restricted femininity in women, in which many problems, including those on -- gasp! -- governmental level take their beginning.
The core of all problems is in the screwed up hierarchy of values, says the author. Me and my partner is the core of all, the Couple is the core of everything, it is where the center of attention of a man and a woman must resign. The second 'ring' is the Space the Couple creates. The third one: children. The fourth: parents. The fifth: country, motherland. The sixth: work, talents. Seventh: hobbies, animals... It might sound wrong to you, but if you read the book, the neat explanation arises, as if being built straight in your brain.
Another of many wonderful places of wisdom from the pages of the book: What is the most important moment of Life? -- NOW. Who is the dearest person in the world? -- the ONE who is WITH YOU RIGHT NOW. What is the greatest good on Earth? -- the good that you can DO RIGHT NOW TO THE PERSON YOU ARE WITH.
I was surprised to see parallels between the Prophet Muhammad's words and Mr. Nekrasov's opinion on the future of the humankind. Nekrasov states that until we change our perception of the world and become more LOVING we, as the World, will remain stuck in place. It confirms the Holy Qur'an's wisdom: "Verily, God does not change the condition of a people until they change themselves" (Surah Al-Rad, Holy Qur'an, 13:11)
I do hope that soon this and other books by Anatolii Nekrasov be translated into English and other languages. It is a very worthy Spiritual Development reading, indeed.

If you are a Tarot or magic enthusiast, you do not need me to introduce you Marcus Katz. I am sure that many a times you, just like me, wondered, where does this man take all the energy and genius to create innumerable ideas and books, in what ponds does he fish for all the "wizardness" of the titles he gives to his many outlets (Tarot-Town, Hekademia, Tarosophy, Tarosophist International being just a sample...)
And here is his journal, an Account of the Abramelin Operation, to which Marcus Katz had been preparing himself, through study and practice of Magic and Occultism, for thirty (!) years. "The Abramelin Operation, a mysterious 14th century manuscript, promises nothing less than to give the successful practitioner of its instructions the knowledge and conversation of their personal Holy Guardian Angel. Following a six-month ordeal of intense practices, the ritual is also said to give the Operant magical powers, control of demonic forces and the use of the infamous magical squares and talismans whose abuse would otherwise cause insanity or dire spiritual consequences."
No, you cannot just read the 177 days account and apply it to your life: but I can tell you that just by READING this book you - no matter how weird it may sound - YOU take a part in Marcus' experience. Just like his wife and son's lives were transformed by Marcus' work so will be you, though on a much lesser scale, of course. I am telling from my personal experience and also from what other readers of After the Angel shared with me. It is a subtle change for the better...
By Our Work We Are Changed The Worker is Hidden in the Workshop
Meditate on these phrases and whole Universes start opening to your Inner Eye... Yet it is impossible to imagine the joy of life where the Knowledge and Conversation of your own Guardian Angel is easily understood by you. Of course, knowing what you are and where your place is accounts for a whole lot of responsibility which you won't be able to just shrug off your shoulders. It is a lot of work: and Marcus Katz is showing us just how much by his very example.
Being a prepared journeyer, Marcus keenly sensed all the changes that started to happen in his surroundings and in his inner world. The journal accounts well for all of these, but you need to read it in between the lines, and may be a couple of times to more fully grasp the deepness of the message. In my view, it is a journey through pretty much insanity and depression to the realization, that we live in a dream with eyes and the whole body shut tight from the essence of the alive Love which is all around. And when we are able to feel this, the Holy Guardian Angel is able to connect to us, heart to heart...
"The work" is our task to do. And I sincerely wish to go through this experience: for many years I have been praying to be shown my Path and Mission. To know it "from the first hands"... aw, that would be Divine. But I am questioning myself, if I ever, ever be brave enough to repeat this journey, even knowing what amazing results it'll bring. This is an experience all humans need to go through, but few will ever be as prepared as Marcus was, despite all the challenges and distractions he faced by going through the Operation AND maintaining a "normal secular" life at the same time.
And after the operation, after the Angel... then the implementation of all the wonderful opportunities and gifts comes to life and even more work begins. The blessing indeed is to know that you are doing YOUR work and making the "right" input by your life.
I am very blessed to be in the first cohort of Marcus' Hekademia students and I am sure that the rest of Arcana Oracles and hundreds if not thousands of people follow the genius of Marcus Katz and his team's work with awe and constant bewilderment of what a person who knows who he is and knows what his passion - and work! - is, can do.

It is a fun and exciting book: reading it you HEAR the Master and creator of the System, Mirzakarim Norbekov, speak to you. It is written by one of his favorite pupils, sadly gone to the other side these days. The System is based in Eastern medicine: by the way the New Age teachings are rooted in it, as well as in Eastern spirituality, too. Norbekov's system is a fine mix of working with mental and physical condition for conquering any tipe of unease/disease. It is a mix of ancient techniques, altered for modern world and is doomed to work for as long as you BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND THE POWER YOU HAVE to do anything you want in this world. And getting healthy is just one small component on the road to your Destination.
Needless to say, you have to believe and work daily with the system to get and keep the results. But it is such a small price to pay for the health!

This book is almost word to word Ester and Jerry Hiks' "The Law Of Attraction" book. Yet I gave it 4 Stars and not less: for the content, which is timeless and ever so true.
Yet for myself I found "The Secret" to be a more practical read: I know how to be grateful, I am feeling it immediately having THANKED anything for a couple of times. It is more challenging with love. The phrases like "you should love it with all your heart!" no matter how passionately spoken, leave me with more questions than before.
Yet the topic of Universal Love has been a red thread in many of the New Age teachings (which are based in ancient wisdom and the Universe!) -- and an old wise man of the Optin Desert recommended that if you want to have love: do the deeds of love, even though without love at first. God will see your will and striving and will place the Love in your heart. I met this quote in Anatoliy Nekrasov's "The Living Thoughts" book and found it to be a nice practical guidance to action.
Love is not criticism, nor the desire to change one. It is concentrating on what brings you joy, and wanting more of it in your life, in "LOVING IT".
Gratitude is very close to love in vibrational pattern; here in Central Asia they say "you should have two times more gratitude than love" perhaps exactly because gratitude is easier to call upon and it is a very quick and practical way to alter one's vibrations.
The idea behind the healing systems is also discussed in "The Power". The studies of the vibrational altering of water crystals (beautiful symmetrical crystals of water upon which the words of love and gratitude were said; ugly ones for the unpleasant and hatred words) correspond to our bodies, which contain up to 80% water! Altering the vibrations of our thoughts and words, we alter the vibration of water in every cell of our body! Isn't it the simplest explanation you've ever heard? It is so for me!
"The Power" is a nicely constructed and passionately read by the author book which demands being heard many a times in order to fully sink its contest into my mind.

Prior to writing this review, I sent out book recommendations to 15 of my friends interested in spiritual and psychic development and some more to those who seem to read only fiction and specialized literature. Indeed, with years passing by I notice that more and more people who have nothing to do with any "mystic" studies are actively interested in developing their intuition, insight and better understanding of self and others. And it is a universal wave: when Terry and Linda's book was just out in the USA market, I already found it on the shelves of the biggest bookstore in Moscow, nicely translated into (of course!) Russian language and with the "Bestseller of the Week" sign proudly glued to the bookshelf's edge just under the pile of "Psychic Intelligence".
I found this book to be both useful and entertaining. It contains many stories from a difficult yet enlightening journey the twin sisters have had in this lifetime: they learned the hard way that listening to self and following one's path is perhaps THE priority and THE task of our life. You can have it easier thanks to them putting it all in writing and adding numerous exercises! I really wanted to get as much out of the book as I could and it involved several hours invested into discovery of many aspects of my own psychic abilities, the "how it all began" and "where to go with all of it next". For me, as a Tarot reader, it was quite a precious time of insights. I have not even finished all the exercises when already started receiving benefits of being more conscious of my power. And you have that power, too: it is exactly what the book is about: each one of us, human beings, has a unique power to see beyond what's obvious and to know thyself.
From scientific discoveries to ancient tips on clearing your aura, from guidance on opening and "fine-tuning" your third eye to many meditations tailored for achieving either better understanding or providing a training for one or the other part of your psyche: "Psychic Intelligence" is one of the most intelligent and nicely rounded books on the market.
Here's a little "Psychic Intelligence" snack for you:
"The brain, as we’ve said, thrives on diversity and novelty. So doing something that is visually new and different will help to open pathways that stimulate clairvoyance." "Analyzing is a bit like worrying—it doesn’t always lead to the best result, and it tends to block intuition. Instead of coming through as a vision or a voice, claircognizant messages are more like thoughts that suddenly pop into your head. Unlike your normal, everyday thoughts, they seem to come out of the blue and usually having no relation to whatever you may be consciously thinking about at the time." "You can even ask you spirit guide to help you become more open to your intuition so you are more receptive to the information you receive."
Automatic writing, pendulums, herbs, guides, Angels, communicating with the other side, starting your own practice, "reading" people, energy work and protection, healing your memories to aid you be a better psychic and etc.: if you take just one book on psychic and spiritual development, I recommend this one.

If anything, this book is a good reminder to stay attuned to what is happening around you all the time. Synchronicity is never "just" happening; the signs from the Universe are coming to us all the time, and, as the book points out, it is out job in this world to figure them out and use for the best of all involved. The book does not go deep into discovering/explaining the causes or meanings though.
The dictionary of symbols at the end of the book is valuable.

I'm surprised to find a lot in common with the author. With my siblings going in and out of hospitals, even though I had all the love and attention of my mother, I was a very jealous and even spiteful child. With my Dad far away for as long as I remember myself, I have always felt I have to deserve love, and protect myself in love. I see now that I undermined a few relationships with digging too deep into his past and not being able to deal with my own jealousy afterwards. Self-esteem, letting go of the past, a ban on worrying about the future and the act of being alive and present in daily life, along with the realization that working through our issues never stops, are the great lessons of this very engaging book.
