I bought this book in one of my favorite bookstores, where it was laying displayed on the fantasy table. I didn't know the book, but I like the blurb and the cover. I took it with my on the trip to Greece that I made with my class after graduating from highschool. I started in it in the airplane to Athens, and I finished it 1 day after my return. I totally loved it, so the hours traveling in the bus were spent reading (instead of socialising or sleeping).
This book is one of my absolute favorites! I totally love this book! The whole series is freaking genius! I think this book deserves more readers, so I talked quite a few people into reading it! They also liked it :). Kylar for president :)...more

I think I discovered this book on Goodreads, probably. Loved the blurb; the choice between life and death and all that. Yelena is a young woman, as in many young adult books, but Yelena is more mature than your average female protagonist. Also, she's kind of paranoid, but that's understandable. Love the characters, very natural. As usual, I could figure some plotlines out, but mostly this book was thrilling. Maria Snyder is a skilled author, as proved by the Study series and the Glass series. I'm curious whether her more Sci-fi books, like Inside Out are, I'm definitely reading them later, but first I'll reread Magic Study!
I just finished this book for the second time, but since I hadn't reviewed it yet, I'll do it now.

I totally love this book! I didn't realise 'till after I read it, that the author, Rob Thurman, is actually a shortening of the name Robin, who is a woman. That makes this book ever better, because the main character, Caliban, is male, and she did such a good job of creating his character, temperament and behaviour.
The Auphe are brillant, they're so evil! And the idea of evil elves is just fantastic! But no, one evil creating per book is not enough for Thurman, for she has come up with an even better bad-ass badguy. And his way of working is really evil, and I liked it so much.
Niko is the best big brother you can ever have, although I totally agree with Cal on the sleeping and being lazy thing, but they balance each other.
One of my favorite things about this book is the way it's told by Cal. He is sooooo frikkin' sarcastic, his humor is really my cup of tea. And it has depth as well! At this moment, I've also read Moonshine and Madhouse, and I have yet to read Deathwish, but that will certainly be happening in the near future. As for Chimeara and Trick of Light, those are also lying in wait on my bookshelf ! ...more

For the fIt has been a while since I read a Cal Leandros book. This fourth book of the series is a very intense, very thrilling and action-packed one. For the first time in this series, the perspective shift from the very lazy, very cynical half-Auphe Cal to his brother, the your-body-is-a-temple, Zen, katana-wielding, ass-kicking Niko. (Although Cal's gunskills shouldn't be neglected) Their storytelling is as different as day and night. I intensly like Cal's tone throughout the book, he's so sarcastic, his humor is so black.
There was a lot of action, Cal et al. didn't get any breathers in Deathwish. It was kind of grand finale-ish, so I had to check if there were any more books. My worries were layed to rest as I discoverd after a quick check that book #5 and #6 were already published, and number #7 is on the way. I wonder what kind of evil monster Rob Thurman will come with in those! I look forward to them! ...more
