You can expect wicked action and emotionally engaging characters in this deeply satisfying read. Anna Silver has limitless potential and this spellbinding sequel is proof. From her breakthrough style to her genuine characters you can’t help but fall in love with ‘Astral Tide’.
It’s been months and Rye is still missing. Don’t let the time gap fool you into thinking the action has let up, the punches are still being thrown right and left and the characters are in for a steep learning curve. No need for fear of second-book-slumps with this novel. With an exquisite style this pulse-pounding adventure brings you in and refuses to let go. I love that I never know what will happen next. Anna has set up characters and a world whose core abilities counteract each other. Astral makes possibilities limitless while emotions create their own confines.
On a planet with extremely limited views and a fear of all things new, these characters had fear and an inability to act in the face of adversity trained into them from day one and are learning to fight back. As they break through the their binds they grow as a group and as individual characters. The twists and turns are expertly executed. Unparalleled and delightfully different ‘Otherborn’ and ‘Astral Tide’ are remarkable finds and a refreshing change of pace. A wonderful addition to one of my favorite series! (less)

This beautifully written novel is unnervingly accurate when it comes to the emotional reactions to a diagnosis. As someone who has had a number of loved ones die of cancer it was genuine enough to give me pause. The first line hit me hard because I am twenty three with a birthday only two days, a birthday that for a long time I didn't think I would get to see. Though not because of cancer.
It was almost too much for me but stopped just short, I was simply too attached to the characters to tear myself away.
Matthew Turner was not on my radar before this tour but he is now. A lot of authors lean too heavily towards a heavily poetic style or a realistic style, the sweet spot in between can be hard to accomplish but with Matthew's calculating skill he manages to weave a tragedy that is heartfelt and heartbreaking but so very human. I love the use of songs between sections to set the mood. Might want to have youtube up when you read this one because the music adds another layer to the entire journey.
The last three lines were so hauntingly beautiful they have stuck with me.
Worth the read but a truly emotional novel. As someone obsessed with different perspectives of life I really loved this read. While it is not for the faint of heart and might be a little too real for those it is too close to it is sweepingly beautiful and raw. Absolutely wonderful. (less)

I am the type of reader who doesn’t mind spoilers overall because I like the journey and the individual ways an author expresses their perspective. Amber has a wonderful style full of creativity and backed by knowledge. Because of the placement of the story line this installment further fills out a story you are already somewhat familiar with but mostly in its ending. I always love a new perspective being added into the mix and feel that this really added to the series and the emotions behind the overall story arc.
Anyone who reads my recommendations regularly knows there is nothing I love more than a good flawed character. Lilette is no exception. Witch Fall is aptly named and a much more emotional read that the first two books in the series. I found myself more ensnared as what we thought we knew was shown to only be one layer of the story. Not only is it quiet revealing but it manages to be a quality above the others in the series showing that Amber just continued to deliver and exceed expectations.
The idea of genetic profiling to find a ‘kill gene’ is something I find fascinating. There is a thin line between protecting someone from harm and punishing the innocent if an act has yet to be committed. Uninvited takes that concept to a new level. There is no view into the future, just a genetic anomaly that could indicate someone is capable of murder. Not that they WILL but that they COULD. Of all the people who could be capable of murder Davy was the least expected. She was a prodigy in all things music whose life was headed for the big leagues. A Straight A+ dream student with a close bestie and a boyfriend who said he loved her.
Davy’s life starts to crumble and the prestigious school she has been attending for so long uninvites her after hearing that she is a murderer, their minds already made up and her conviction unable to be denied because it is in her very DNA. Davy’s perspective is unique and intriguing. She is a bold character who has a very realistic reaction to everything that happens. You feel closer to her the farther everyone strays from her because something about the way in which she feels so lonely in the most human emotion of all. She is lumped together with kids that have been forced to lead half lives and many of whom have known they were ‘murderers’ for a lot longer than she has, even if none of them have actually committed the act.
During her journey from pampered to public enemy the most poignant note for me was just how plausible the entire situation was and that in times of injustice the things that truly matter become much more evident. Discovering who your real friends are, knowing yourself, having something or someone you love. These things can be a stabilizer and as all of her stabilizers are stripped away the girl known for having every advantage suddenly has an extreme disadvantage and a new view of the world around her – A world that is in a state of upheaval.
Overall, a very striking story with a wonderfully realistic voice and a brand new point of view. The entire journey keeps you on the edge of your seat or wrapped up in bed hiding under the comforters. It makes you think, makes you feel and I can hardly wait to read the next volume in this duology! (less)
