Our children as the victims of war...as soldiers and sufferers. Shares that we are all looking for the same things in life, there is greed & power hunger on both sides of any war. Why? Why can't we all share the blessings of the world God gave us?(less)

The emotional difficulty of their lives and that of their children. How God enters the lives of both of their children Joel and Katie/Kyle and brings the whole family together. How God even helps K/K with her 'other mother' Abigail. Words of faith not exactly the way I would have said it, but definitely the way I feel it. Hard to believe I've owned this book nearly 14 years and just read it now.(less)

However, in this part of Texas where it's really hot and dry, just off the Mexico border, she's living with her husband's family of 'good ole boy' white Texans. And, she's Mexican. This is a very complicated story, even for a Jack Reacher novel. You can't put it down. (less)

I've had a horrible cold and bronchitis for a week. Had this book on my shelf waiting to be read. It was GREAT!!. Alessa (our lead character) is a young 21 year old woman with a positive almost naive outlook on life. Raised by her mom in her younger years after her father left she has had growing up experiences most of us don't have. Her mom was wonderful. Now suddenly she's in a totally different corner, geographically, chronologically and socially. The book is very faith based and shows how we all have weak spots in our faith. The romance is sort of realistic, like any romance story, without the eroticism so often placed for sales purposes. This made it an even better story. For Alessa and her new friends, the ending is happy. I've still got my cold, my cough and the headache that even my medications aren't fixing, but I had a good escape reading this book in the last 24 hours. (less)

It takes a while to find the bad guy here, and longer to solve the issue. An intriguing story in that you HAVE to finish it! Lee Child does have a way of keeping up the suspense. He also makes the methods of Jack Reacher seem justified, even when you don't agree with how he does things. (less)

They all definitely take your mind off your daily problems! :) Here, our hero is 'killing time' in Margrave,Georgia when he gets arrested and hauled off to jail before he even gets to town! He's charged with murder and ends up in prison for a weekend with one of the possible suspects because they have no 'jail service' on weekends. A long road to the solution with the help of a female cop. Characters: Roscoe, Finlay, Hubble, Teale, Kliner.(less)

I also like the way the two series are intertwined. This book,in my opinion,is one of Sanford's best. It keeps your interest the whole way. Bonnie & Clyde type story, police emotion and judgement..unfair as it may seem, is a normal reaction for many. Virgil's family background balances the other side. Justice. (less)

You get a variation on the homeless people just because of how our hero becomes homeless. The life and treatment of the homeless in Michigan is pretty real, having worked with them myself. The more I read, the better I liked the story. (less)

[I'm sure now that I'm getting old :)] Maggie and her friends struggle as they all age from different chronological vantage points-even the now deceased Mr. Crocker. We all treasure certain traditions in our lives, but everyone doesn't have the same traditions. I really enjoyed this book and will probably look for more of Fannie's stories. (less)

The web of events, the search for clues & suspects really keeps the reader hanging on. Yeah, there is some blood shed but not till nearly half-way through the book. The solution is not one you'll figure out yourself probably....even if you are a Reacher fan. Of course in the end he creates the justice needed; and, of course, there is a pretty girl involved. Two of them in fact. Very good mystery story.(less)

It is very historical, a good plot, easy reading. Adelia is at Glastonbury now just after the fire. (A real happening in the 12th century.) Virgil is called in on a murder and a strange suicide that is called murder by the coroner. It develops in to 4 murders. The struggle leads them into an investigation of a strange cult that calls themselves a 'church'. The World of Spirit. Virgil and the local sheriff Lee Coakley (a divorced, single mom of 3 boys) develop the romantic interest. The story is bloody, vulgar and is not my favorite type of subject matter. Virgil Flowers stories seem to be that way to me. A little too much blood and guts so to speak. But in Sanford's usual style, it peaks your interest and keeps you going quickly through it. (less)

A good analysis and presentation of the many different characters. Joe Hart grows from a 15 year old boy, raised by his aunt & uncle to a successful attorney who loves the outdoors. Sought out by an acquaintance from his youth, the attorney accepts a new job. The second man meets the many people in Joe's life and their bond grows. This novel is a moving story about giving to others and about taking care of yourself, how those two acts are combined. A book full of life lessons of which we all need to be reminded.(less)

This one is not just scary it is nauseating in detail. I learned to pick up on the gore and skip several paragraphs or a chapter, to find out more about the mystery. Alex Cross' so called friend and coworker, turns out to be just what you think. (less)

This is a wonderful tale of early 20th century Berlin, just as Hitler and his party begin to rise. The Jewish heroine, Esther, is someone we can all relate to in one way or another. The story tells the tale of Russia AND Germany between 1919 and 1935. Would recommend to anyone who is interested in history, romance, and/or mystery. (less)

Jo and Rachel are best friends and they meet Anne who is deaf. An enticing story about friendships, teaching/sharing. I would recommend this book to all young people and adults too.(less)

It made me stop to think a little more generously of the beggar on the street whether in St. Petersburg, Florida or Chicago, Illinois,Saginaw, Michigan or South Bend, Indiana. We all have a tendency to not see the wealth we each personally have...it's not always money. We see the beggar and the poor through the snide eyes of superiority. We can't see their side of the story! There are surely cons out there who take advantage of us, but better we should give them a dollar or a coat than that we should miss the one who needs it so badly.(less)
