I tMan I had a love hate relationship with this book. I kept going back and forth. I would start to love it and then I would turn around and hate it. I think I put on goodreads my initial thoughts like this: So this is a complicated review... that will need some thoughts. Liked the plot Hated the main character Loved Kale Hated James Loved hated this story...
And sadly this is still how I am when I think about this book which is sad b/c I am not really still thinking about this book. The plot itself had so much promise. A place in the future where people are kept on display for people to look at. The main character however, was such a whiny, selfish, flat, not likable at all character. I actually kept rooting for something bad to actually happen to her that would knock her down a peg or two and that usually isn't how I roll. Add to it her insta-love attraction to a cowboy named James in the enclosure across the way to her (and we know how much I hate the insta-love plot device for no other reason than MAN he's HAWT and oh I'm a virgin so I wouldn't know what to do with him anyway I just know that he's my soul mate cause he fine) freaking a shoot me now. Then throw in Kale who I actually liked he was a good guy who proved way too many times he was better than the main character would ever deserve yet we all knew that by the time she figured that out it would be a too little too late yet she would get him in the end kind of thing. Hated the cowboy James who however, fit his time frame so I can't even blame him. And then there's Victoria who was like 13 that Emma was so mean to just b/c she happened to be the one that was picked by the zoo keepers to be the cowboy's mate. Dude not her fault get over yourself. See, see what I mean this book made me act like a teenager I was like SLOW YOUR FREAKING ROLL and GROW THE HELL UP then I was like okay I'm done skim, skim, oh that's interesting, skim, skim, oh cool, skim, skim, oh good we're done. Needless to say I think you get the point this book had great potential sadly for me it just fell flat and din't work.
Favorite part or line from story: Even thought parts of this story got on my nerves I enjoyed when Emma and James wrote on the wall in mud. I thought that was very sweet and enduring. ...more
THOUGHTS/OPINION: I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first one. Such, I think, is the curse of the second book. This focused more on the makingTHOUGHTS/OPINION: I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first one. Such, I think, is the curse of the second book. This focused more on the making of a monster vs an actual monster. While the first book was all about a real live monster that could or did exist. I found at times I raced through this which means I skimmed places not unusual for me. It was a nice story with an interesting twist and a good moral tale to it. I enjoyed the folk lore that built up and to be quite honest I do like the constant is a vampire real or not debate that is on going throughout and how you could as a reader take either side. The book allows you the reader to participate and decide for yourself which way you will land on the issue. That being said I felt as if the story was almost too long for me and could've been cut shorter at times. I will go head though and pick the next one in the series up just because I do like the style of writing so I can't help but want to read more by this author and series.
THINGS I LIKED 1. The relationship between Will Henry and Warthrop 2. Learning more about monstrumologist and what they do as well as why they do not exist any more. 3. The style of writing as if this is a diary and Mr. Yancey is trying to find out if anyone knows a Will Henry 4. Learning that Dr. Warthrop had a woman in his life that he loved and in returned loved him and their backstroy which was interesting
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE (SPOILERS)
1. I didn't that his ex-fiance died not going to lie. I understand the reasoning behind it however, I am not happy it happened. 2. I do not at most times enjoy how Dr. Warthrop treats Will Henry 3. I did not like the little girl Lily and did not understand why she had to be involved at all with this story line.
Favorite part or line from story: The favorite parts of the story for me are when the doctor actually shows he cares for Will Henry like keeping him warm, or taking care of him when he is ill from the poison. ...more

I am not even sure what it was about this book that I just felt like I was being forced to plow through in hopes of it getting better.

I was surprised by tTHOUGHTS/OPINION: Thankfully I didn't have much thoughts or opinions going into this book and because of that I really enjoyed it. I was surprised by the depth and the issues it hit on. It tackles issues of socioeconomic classes and race. It also goes over misconceptions we have of the rich and the poor. It touched on grey areas after all stealing is stealing no matter what the reason is behind it. Surprisingly enough it also goes into consequences on all sides. This books did surprise me and I enjoyed it enough that I will for sure be checking out the next one.
THINGS I LIKED I have to admit I liked Willa. At first I was a little iffy I wasn't sure if she would grow on me or not. Thankfully she did. I enjoyed seeing how it was a race issue as well as a social economic issue b/c I still think that exist no matter how much money you have. It had a nice twist at the end and I have to admit I didn't see that one coming which was refreshing. The book makes you just curious enough to want to read the next one in the series.
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE It felt a little name brand droppy which I get I mean you have a poor kid that is robbing from the rich to give to the other poor kids. That being said however, it can and did sort of date the book a little (yes 2012 isn't that old and yet it is). I had an issue with the instant like friendship the 3 popular girls had with Willa definitely not believable. Also how in the world did she think she was going to get away with it? ...more

We met Bianca a self proclaimed Vamp Tramp who is addicted to nauth which as described above is a drug that gives the person being bitten a high like cocaine or better. Anyway we are introduced to her as she is getting high and yet knowing it was wrong. At the same time we meet James who is an empath and literally feels everything including Bianca's high and hangover. Then it did eventually pick up and I found myself interested in the characters and starting to get invested in them. Bianca trying to get pass her addiction felt real. In his own way James is fighting his own battles of feeling everything around him and let's be real that has to be extremely hard and I applaud the author for showing his struggles. This is a book that kept me turning the pages I had to know what happened next. It is a new take on the vampire novels and I enjoyed reading it. It is clearly set up for another book so at the end if you dislike a book ending in a way that leaves you wanting more or asking questions be prepared. However, I will say that this is one that I would recommend to any vampire loving reader and or urban fantasy reader!...more
**spoiler alert** THOUGHTS/OPINION: Turns out that Ian may not be the one who killed Ali. And Kate is a freaking psycho witch seriously?!?! And here's**spoiler alert** THOUGHTS/OPINION: Turns out that Ian may not be the one who killed Ali. And Kate is a freaking psycho witch seriously?!?! And here's why: So Hanna goes to the mental ward due to what Kate tells her family and apparently A told Hanna's dad that PTSD is what Hanna had. Spence is mom’s little angel telling Spence exactly what she wants to hear about how Spence was the one they wanted and planned for but Melissa was not. Then Spence goes and breaks up the happy family with a secret that Ali was her freaking sister due to an affair her dad had with Mrs. D. Emily is back on being in love with a ghost AKA Ali b/c she just can't stop (PLEASE SHOOT HER WHY CAN'T SHE DIE ALREADY) she and Caleb from the show should talk about how well that goes. Aria tries to channel a ghost and falls for a Khan instead. Take a wild guess on whose behind all those thoughts. And the story goes on and on and on. MAN shoot me in the foot with these books and maybe take away my brain cells so they die and yet HOLY CRAP I can’t stop. As if that wasn’t enough JENNA is DEAD just like that OMG what the what the what. I can’t wait until the next one. And the guy who killed her is some no name construction worker who apparently stalked the girls and yet doesn't fit nor fill right in this situation. Jason is still weird and omg poor freaking blind Jenna you have got to be kidding me. Add to it what is going on with Wilden?!
I just can't do the like and not like parts due to how twisted and interwoven this story is...
Favorite part or line from story: I have to say I enjoyed the mental ward scene with Hanna and how she grew from it.
